Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has appealed to the international community for donations to revive Zimbabwe’s ailing Health system, New Zimbabwe reports.
Chiwenga was speaking while receiving a donation of 3 ambulances from Redan Coupons when he said:
<blockquote>As we appreciate this wholemark of corporate social responsibility exhibited by Redan Coupon Pvt Ltd, l am calling upon the international community, our brothers and sisters in the diaspora, development partners and the corporate world to contribute to this worthy cause</blockquote>
Chiwenga also thanked Redan and said their donation was timely and beneficial to the health sector and it will help the country to overcome the challenges of ambulance shortages:
<blockquote>I would like the beneficiaries of these ambulances to take good care of the vehicles and the equipment in order to appreciate the good intentions of those who have made this kind gesture.
This donation will help the country overcome the challenges of poor ambulance services.</blockquote>
The VP’s appeal comes at a time nurses have complained that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/10/26/nurses-accuse-chiwenga-of-militarising-the-health-sector/">Chiwenga is militarizing the health sector</a> and a third of the nurses are going to be made contract workers.

Award-winning Journalist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hopewell_Chin%27ono">Hopewell Chin’ono</a> claims that ZACC arrested  Vice President Chiwenga’s wife <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Marry_Chiwenga">Marry Chiwenga</a> on fraud, money laundering and misrepresentation charges.

ZACC Arrests Marry Chiwenga

The Mass Public Opinion Institute’s study revealed lack of consensus among Zimbabweans on the death penalty issue. MPOI’s recent research indicated that 61% of Zimbabweans are against the penalty. On the other extreme end, 41 % think it must be “definitely” kept whilst 20% feel it should “probably” be kept.
The research also showed that globally, states are significantly drifting towards proscribing capital punishment. More than two thirds of the world has already abolished the death penalty law.
Commenting on the issue, Marufu Mandevere a rights lawyer said:
<blockquote>The death sentence has generally been an archaic form of sentence which so many civilised societies have abandoned.
In as much as it is archaic and uncivilised it has never been known to the Africans’ culture…which has been based on compensation forgiveness, love and not retribution.
The arguments in favour of death penalty have been weak and are not ascertainable.</blockquote>
Whilst President Mnangagwa has vehemently castigated capital punishment, Constantino Chiwenga, his vice, is of the diverging view. It is believed that Mnangagwa narrowly escaped the hanging during the liberation struggle due to his tender age.
Zimbabwe has not carried out any execution in the past decade. This is mainly because the country has had no hangman for 12 years now. The fate of more than 100 prisoners on the death row remains unclear as opinions have been varying on the case.

61% Against And 41% For The Death Penalty: MPOI

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga reportedly stopped businessman Wicknell Chivayo from donating towards the hosting of the just-ended Miss World Zimbabwe pageant. It was alleged that Chivhayo was keen to attend the event and donate. Chiwenga who was in attendance with his wife Mary who is the license holder of the pageant is reported to have rejected Chivhayo ‘s donation.
When Contacted for comment, it is reported that  Chivayo referred questions to the Miss Zimbabwe Trust.
Said Chivhayo:

Chiwenga stopped Chivayo from donating towards Miss World Zimbabwe pageant.

Vice President, General (Retired) Constantino Chiwenga has told graduates to follow the example of Buhera South MP Joseph Chinotimba and empower themselves through various initiatives. In a speech read on his behalf by Lands, Agriculture and Resettlement Minister, Air Marshal (Retired) Perrance Shiri at the launch of Chinotimba’s book, Chiwenga said:
<blockquote>Some of you have two or three degrees and have never seen the inside of an aeroplane, but our ambassador of happiness (Chinotimba) is flying to Dubai because of being happy and making people around him happy as well.
You have had from the minister of Labour and Social Welfare that next month they are going to spend a week in Dubai, rubbing shoulders with other people like him (Honourable Chinotimba) our ambassador of happiness around the world and the Head of State of that country. It’s amazing.
…Despite everything, Chinotimba has the people of his constituency at heart, the widows, the orphans and those with disabilities, let us all borrow a leaf from our ambassador of happiness and give to the needy.</blockquote>

VP Chiwenga Tells Graduates To Empower Themselves Like Chinotimba

In an interview with the BBC, just after Independence then Prime Minister Robert Mugabe said that no one can remain in the country once they have advocated for the overthrowing of the government. This comes after Monday’s statement by the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) General Constantino Chiwenga that the Military would not hesitate to intervene in the Zanu-PF leadership squabbles in order to protect the gains of the liberation war. Chiwenga said this after his ally, former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa fled and skipped the country after being fired from the government and from Zanu-PF.
In the interview, Mugabe said

#Throwback Video: You Can't Advocate The Overthrowing Of My Govt and Remain In The Country says Mugabe

Some sections of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) executive have dismissed warnings by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), Commander, to stop belittling President Mugabe arguing that it was their democratic right to air their feelings. ZNLWVA secretary-general, Victor Matemadanda, reminded ZDF Commander General Constantino Guveya Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga that his authority only applied to soldiers and did not extend to civilians. Matemadanda also reminded the General that he should follow the constitution of Zimbabwe and not that of Zanu-PF, saying that all people are not equal.
Said Matemadanda:
<blockquote>Remember the general (Chiwenga) is an appointed officer . . . He was appointed by the president and he must be seen under the Constitution to be defending the president. But unfortunately, he is the commander of the army and not of civilians.
It is wrong therefore to think that every Zimbabwean is governed by the Zanu PF constitution. People have to feel free to reflect on issues, and no one can take that away unless if people say they want to introduce a dictatorship
People know that there is something that is behind the scenes. Indeed, why should the general worry about a person exercising his democratic right?
Some people think that they are more Zimbabwean than others . . . they think they are more Zimbabwean because they participated in the liberation struggle, but that has to be corrected. What about those who were not born then? Are they not Zimbabweans?
When you are not suffering it’s normal that you support the leadership, but it is not correct to try and silence other people. Those who are enjoying life do not want that to be stopped.
People should thus understand that those who are benefiting from the status quo do not want things to change, but we are all Zimbabweans and we all deserve to enjoy the fruits of independence.
It is not wrong to tell the president to stop wasting the country’s resources travelling to foreign countries like Singapore or throwing obscene birthday bashes.
It only becomes wrong when some people want to silence us. But we will not be silenced,</blockquote>

Zimbabwe is not governed by the Zanu-PF constitution, and we will not be silenced: Angry War veterans tell Chiwenga

General Constantino Chiwenga, commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces has warned war veterans to stop belittling President Robert or risk being sent where they belong.  Chiwenga described the war veterans who keep appearing in the media as “nobodies” who did not do anything significant during the Second Chimurenga, and warned that “It is not too late for those who can hear.”  This follows an article in NewsDay in which war veterans threatened to remove President Mugabe for protecting Saviour Kasukuwere.
In an interview with state media newspapers Chiwenga is quoted as saying:
<blockquote>This must now stop, or we are going to send them to where they belong. If they want to remain as part and parcel of those disciplined, loyal, patriotic cadres, they must now understand that it is the party, it is the government that sets the direction.
The party commands the combatants and not vice versa. Hakuna mwana akagara nhaka, kana kutora tsvimbo dzababa, ivo baba vachiripo.
Here we are talking about how people, more specifically combatants, must behave.
They are supposed to be role models to the rest of society.
It is not too late for those who can hear.
But speaking on behalf of the Defence and Security Services of the country, this nonsense must now come to an end.
We will not have our Commander-in-Chief being belittled by nobodies, who never commanded any battle.</blockquote>
