A truck driver, Cosmas Kazuzu, is in trouble after he allegedly posed as “Matinyadze” from Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s office and threatened Douglas Zimbango, the CEO of Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), to reinstate the suspended human resources manager, Lavet Wadawarewa.
As reported by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200034555/trucker-in-trouble-for-name-dropping-chiwenga">NewsDay</a>, Kazuzu is accused of making multiple calls to Zimbango, threatening to expose ZCDC officials’ alleged involvement in diamond theft if the suspension was not lifted.
He appeared before magistrate Tapiwa Banda and was remanded in custody, with a bail application expected this Tuesday.
On August 5, Kazuzu allegedly contacted Zimbango, claiming to have documents incriminating him in theft and fraud involving diamonds at ZCDC.
On August 12, he reportedly sent a text message to Zimbango, threatening him with dismissal if the charges against Wadawarewa were not dropped.
Kazuzu is being represented by lawyer Scott Panashe Mamimine.
It is further alleged that on August 16 Kazuzu contacted Elias Mvere, the chief security officer at ZCDC, identifying himself as Matinyadze from Vice-President Chiwenga’s office to inquire about the suspension of human resources manager Lavet Wadawarewa.
During the conversation, Kazuzu claimed to have a document detailing criminal activities at ZCDC involving the complainant and other senior managers. He threatened to take the document to Chiwenga if the disciplinary charges were not withdrawn.
Kazuzu sent a document titled “Developments @ ZCDC” to Mvere via his mobile phone, instructing that it be forwarded to the complainant.
The document allegedly contained allegations of theft and fraud against the complainant and other senior managers at ZCDC.
Mvere raised a complaint with ZCDC CEO Douglas Zimbango, sharing the document via WhatsApp.
Investigations by the police led to Kazuzu’s arrest.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said that Air Chief Marshal (Retired) Elson Moyo is in stable condition and receiving medical care at a hospital in Harare following a road accident near Chegutu earlier this week.
Chiwenga visited the former Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) on Friday to assess his condition and convey his best wishes.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/rtd-air-chief-marshal-moyo-in-stable-condition/">The Herald</a> afterwards, Chiwenga, himself a retired Army General, said the Government is confident in his recovery and remains committed to supporting him, while he recuperates from the injuries. He said:

Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Elson Moyo was a colleague and is a colleague, when he got involved in an accident from his farm it was of great concern and we wanted to see how his condition was.
He was airlifted to Manyame Air Base and then to the hospital for specialist medical care. I visited him at the hospital because I wanted to be satisfied that he was in good condition.
We were quite concerned when we got the news that he was involved in that accident, only to find out that yes, there are areas here and there where he has pain, but mostly they are muscle pains, but generally he is fine.
We think when the doctors do their final check-up, they will be able to tell that he is now fine, but when we saw him, he was in very good morale and soon he will be discharged.

Chiwenga revealed that Moyo is one of the first qualified group of fighter jet pilots who were deployed to the AFZ after independence. He said:

We have worked together for a long time since the time of our struggle for the independence of our country and then from 1980 as you would know, he was a trained pilot.
He was one of our first group of jet (fighter) pilots, even when we went for the Mozambique campaign.

A leaked internal memorandum from a district intelligence officer in Chegutu reveals that a 67-year-old Moyo was involved in a car accident on October 29 at around 3 PM.
While driving alone, he failed to negotiate a curve, causing his vehicle to veer off the road to the right.
The car then struck a tree before coming to a stop. As a result of the incident, he started experiencing pain in his right hip and shoulder. Reads the memo:

On the 29th day of October 2024, 1500hours and at 10 kilometre peg along Chegutu-Pickstone Road, Chegutu (Oldham Farm), the sole party, Retired Chief Air Marshal Elson Moyo (former commander of Air Force of Zimbabwe) aged 67 of Concession Hill Farm, Chegutu was driving a silver Toyota Hilux double cab registration number AES3454 in the dust road from his farm towards Chegutu.
Upon reaching the 10km peg, he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle veered off the road to the right, hit a tree and landed on its wheels.
The sole party did not sustain any visible injuries but was complaining of a painful right hip and shoulder.
He was taken to Chegutu District Hospital by a well-wisher, where he was airlifted to Harare by Air Ambulance (helicopter). His condition is stable.

The top-of-the-range car involved in the accident had its front right wheel dislodged, along with damage to the right headlamp and front fender.

Air Chief Marshal (Retired) Elson Moyo had a road accident but is in stable condition and getting medical help in Harare. Vice President Chiwenga visited him and said he's doing well. Moyo is a former high-ranking military officer and one of the first fighter jet pilots in Zimbabwe. The accident happened when he failed to make a turn and hit a tree. Rtd Air Chief Marshal Moyo In Stable Condition, Says VP Chiwenga

ZANU PF deputy president Constantino Chiwenga has urged the party to focus on improving Zimbabweans’ lives and boosting the economy.
Addressing party delegates at the ongoing 21st National People’s Conference in Bulawayo, Chiwenga did not support the “2030 Mnangagwa” campaign, which seeks to extend President Mnangagwa’s rule beyond the two-term limit.
While many delegates from Harare, Midlands, Mashonaland, and Matabeleland provinces have called for Mnangagwa to lead until 2030, Chiwenga chose to address economic and food security issues instead of endorsing a third term for Mnangagwa. He said:

It is therefore essential that we use this conference to develop resolutions that drive industrialisation and propel our economic trajectory towards modernisation.
This will fulfil the vision of our President for the realisation of Vision 2030. As the ruling party, we should value and never take for granted the trust that the people of Zimbabwe place in us through their votes.

Chiwenga emphasised the supremacy of the party over the government, urging the implementation of party conference resolutions to improve livelihoods and ensure economic growth.
He stressed the importance of disciplined leadership, innovation, and industry, advocating for an education system aligned with learners’ needs and supported by research and technology.
Chiwenga also underscored the need for a stable currency to boost trade and commerce and called for economic empowerment to take precedence over political consolidation, promoting industrialisation and modernisation in line with Vision 2030. He said:

Chiwenga, despite his hesitance to support Mnangagwa’s bid for a third term, acknowledged Mnangagwa’s significant contributions to ZANU PF and praised his leadership in agriculture, mining, and tourism.
He said Mnangagwa has been a key figure in Zimbabwe’s political landscape since the 1960s, describing him as a loyal and dedicated member of the party.
Chiwenga commended Mnangagwa for his role in resisting white minority rule and highlighted his resilience against neo-colonial challenges like illegal sanctions, reflecting the spirit of “hunhu” and “ubuntu.”
The Vice President concluded his speech by urging ZANU PF members to remain united and disciplined in their mission to build a peaceful and prosperous Zimbabwe. He said:

I urge you all to be disciplined cadres, work together, and uphold our core values of peace, unity, and development as we strive to improve the lives of our people.

Chiwenga Sidesteps "2030 Mnangagwa" Campaign In ZANU PF Conference Speech

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga reportedly urged party members during the ZANU PF Central Committee meeting this week to avoid the disunity that characterised the events leading up to the 2017 military intervention that ousted the late Robert Mugabe.
According to <a href="https://www.theindependent.co.zw/local-news/article/200034046/chiwenga-warns-zanu-pf-of-2017-as-senior-officials-spar-over-ed2030-campaign">The Independent</a>, Central Committee members who attended the meeting said Chiwenga warned against rampant indiscipline within the party, which he claimed was causing divisions and infighting. Said an unnamed ZANU PF official:

The tension was definitely there and you could feel it in the room. Chiwenga said we want unity. He said ‘We don’t want to go back to the 2017 period’, leaving his words open to interpretation.
The President was silent on the issue. He did not respond to the calls for a 2030 extension. He spoke about the need for discipline and unity in the party, consistency and perseverance so that they achieve the 2030 Vision.
The ED2030 slogan was not banned, but the President pointed out that it was not an official slogan. What was also interesting was that no one chanted the ED2030 slogan during the Central Committee meeting.

ZANU PF national chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri issued a strong warning against factionalism within the party, announcing plans to address the issue after the conference, starting with Harare.
She reportedly spoke with determination, saying “heads will roll” as she sought to restore unity and discipline among members.
According to a senior ZANU PF official, both Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are keen to prevent any situation that could embarrass the party on the global stage.
The official said tensions are already high, particularly following the controversial War Veterans League congress in Gweru earlier this month and reports of the youth league promoting the 2030 agenda.
According to the official, it is clear that both leaders recognize the potential consequences of the public rift, especially since Chiwenga’s supporters have expressed their disapproval of the 2030 initiative.
However, several Central Committee members voiced their support for Mnangagwa’s continued leadership, praising his achievements over the past seven years and expressing their willingness to back him if he decides to stay in power until 2030.
Another Central Committee member claimed that all 10 provinces have already agreed to extend Mnangagwa’s term.
The official said if this resolution is approved on Saturday, it will indicate that the President intends to remain in power.

Chiwenga Urges ZANU PF To Avoid Disunity Reminiscent Of 2017

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said that corruption has become a serious threat to the country’s progress, undermining the rule of law and eroding public trust in both private and public institutions.
Speaking at the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute of Zimbabwe’s annual conference in Victoria Falls on Thursday, Chiwenga urged leaders in both sectors to uphold ethical standards and prioritise integrity. He said (via <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200032519/corruption-now-a-security-threat-chiwenga">NewsDay</a>):

As leaders, our responsibility is to create an environment where adherence to effective corporate governance principles is not just encouraged but expected.
</blockquote>
It is important to recognise that corruption represents a serious threat to our nation’s progress, distorting markets, undermining the rule of law and eroding public function as professionals in key positions across both private and public institutions.
Chiwenga asserted the government has implemented several measures to combat corruption, including the adoption of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC). He said:

The government of Zimbabwe is committed to collaborating with the private sector to create a corruption-free ecosystem through vigorous enforcement of anti-corruption laws, fostering strong partnerships, enhancing public awareness and providing advanced protection for whistleblowers.
By upholding the principles of good governance and actively participating in anti-corruption initiatives, the private sector can demonstrate its commitment to ethical business practices and contribute to a brighter future for our nation.
</blockquote>
UNCAC, adopted in 2003, provides a comprehensive framework for countries to prevent corruption, criminalise various corrupt practices, and enhance international cooperation in investigation and prosecution.
However, Chiwenga’s call for ethical standards appears disingenuous in light of ongoing reports of corruption involving key state institutions, such as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), where millions were allegedly misappropriated in the lead-up to the 2024 harmonised elections.
In March and April of last year, Qatar-based Al Jazeera aired the investigative documentary Gold Mafia, which revealed how senior public officials were involved in smuggling Zimbabwe’s gold out of the country.
Moreover, just last week, President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed former judge Webster Nicholas Chinamora as the chairperson of the Zimbabwe Independent Complaints Commission (ZICC), despite Chinamora having resigned from the bench in 2023 amid an inquiry into his suitability for office due to serious allegations of misconduct.
Critics argue that the establishment of the commission is merely a facade, as it is led by a judge who stepped down following a corruption scandal.

Julius Malema, leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, says Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who led the 2017 coup that ousted Robert Mugabe, has been weakened and cannot prevent President Emmerson Mnangagwa from extending his rule beyond constitutional limits.
Addressing a lecture on “Security and Good Governance in Africa” at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape on Monday, August 5, Malema challenged Zimbabwean youth to “rise against the tyranny” of the 81-year-old Mnangagwa, who is reportedly planning to extend his term past 2028. Said Malema:

Chiwenga is done, he will not be anything. They used him. Chiwenga is no longer the most powerful military man in Zimbabwe now. They have weakened him.
Only the power of the youth of Zimbabwe can change the political status quo, and the Zimbabweans have to know that we are with them, including Zimbabweans who are here in South Africa…
Go and fight from there. It’s high time that you take it upon yourselves to organise so that we know that at least you’re also doing something.

Mnangagwa’s Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi told The Daily News on Tuesday if the people of Zimbabwe want Mnangagwa to extend his rule, the Constitution will be amended. Said Ziyambi:

If the majority of the people are of the opinion that we need to extend President Mnangagwa’s term, then the law can always be amended to suit the people’s wishes. That is what democracy is all about.

Chiwenga Weakened, Unable To Stop Mnangagwa's Third Term Bid - Malema

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has warned ZANU PF party members against being driven into self-serving personality cults, personal power pursuits and factionalism.
In a speech captured by ZBC News, Chiwenga, who was dressed in ZANU PF regalia, addressed a gathering, urging party members to remain loyal not to individuals, “who come and go,” but to the party and the country as a whole. Said Chiwenga:

There is no room for factionalism at any level in the party. A party cannot be undermined by being defined in the confines of individuals. I repeat, no factionalism in the party, we are one and shall remain one, hapana kuti uyu ndinomuda uyu handimude, tiri tese ka? Our loyalty is not to individuals but to the bigger agenda which is larger than us, that of the party and the people of Zimbabwe who are supreme, it is the party, it is the people of Zimbabwe who are supreme, not inini saChiwenga, I will come and go.

Unlike other cabinet members, including Vice President Kembo Mohadi and senior party figures, Chiwenga has refused to endorse the “ED2030” slogan.
His comments have been interpreted as a direct challenge to Mnangagwa’s intensifying “ED2030” campaign.
Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are reportedly engaged in a fierce power struggle over ZANU PF’s unresolved leadership and succession issues, which have intensified as the former attempts to extend his rule beyond the 2028 constitutional term limit to 2030.
UK-based Zimbabwean lawyer, Brighton Mutebuka, recently claimed that there is a looming “final showdown” between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga over the control of the ruling ZANU PF party and the Zimbabwean government.
Mutebuka said despite ZANU PF’s denials, there are ongoing power struggles between the two senior political figures.
The academic believes Mnangagwa is now racing against time and has to execute a plan to remain in power beyond 2028 within the next 18 months. He wrote:

ED is going nowhere. Battle lines are now drawn everywhere. In SADC, in ZANU PF and all state institutions. The unfinished business of November 2017 has returned to haunt Zimbabwe.
The showdown is looming. It’s how ED’s political journey was always going to unfold. He was always incapable of giving up power voluntarily.
Had his Mutare speech been sincere, we would have seen a tectonic shift in Zim’s political terrain through the loosening of his grip over party &amp; state affairs, genuine delegation of power/decentralisation and a lowering of the political temperature.
Instead, we have seen the exact opposite! You would think it was ED’s first term. There are so many political scandals engulfing ED as to disincentivise him from vacating the seat of power. One gets the impression that he is committed to rolling the political dice to the bitter end!
Virtually every current political event in Zim seems to be attributable to the intractable succession saga. From mysterious arsons to senseless arrests of political opponents &amp; exceptionally cruel &amp; prolonged denial of bail even to the disabled and infants – such jarring heartlessness &amp; callousness!
We are also increasingly seeing the unusual spectacle of children of high-profile regime officials getting arrested – which heightens the political intrigue involved!
It’s a bumpy road ahead, everyone needs to buckle up &amp; fasten their seatbelts, especially the leading protagonists &amp; those around them!

Chiwenga Tells ZANU PF Members To Be Loyal To Party, Not Individuals; Says People Come And Go

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga, have spearheaded the transformation of Sababa Primary School in Insiza District, Matabeleland South Province, in partnership with other stakeholders.
The school has undergone significant infrastructure development, including the establishment of a computer laboratory and a new administration block.
Additionally, solar panels have been installed to power a borehole, to support a horticulture project, with the garden produce aiding the school feeding programme.
Furthermore, the teachers’ cottages have been electrified and renovated, and the previously dilapidated school infrastructure has been refurbished.
This refurbishment involved repainting the buildings, patching floors, and replacing deteriorated roofing materials.
The school has also received 20 computers donated by the Ministry of Information Communication Technology and an additional 10 desktop computers contributed by the Chiwenga family.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/vp-chiwengas-family-helps-transform-sababa-school/">state media</a>, Isabel Moyo, the chairperson of the Sababa Primary School Development Committee, expressed optimism that the improvements will help retain both teachers and students and potentially improve the pass rate at the school. She said:

Our school had become an eyesore. Classroom blocks were in a terrible state, and some parents were transferring their children as they had lost trust in us as an educational facility. Teachers were also shunning the school, affecting our pass rate.
The intervention has brought back long-lost hope. Our school can now attract teachers and we have electrified teachers’ cottages and an administration block, which is a huge development for us.

Speaking after commissioning the projects at Sababa Primary School, Col. Baloyi-Chiwenga said:

The project at Sababa Primary School started late last year, and we vowed to ensure its timely completion.
I was gravely concerned by the school’s dilapidated state. I engaged my husband, the Vice President, who has been very supportive.
I approached the Minister of ICT, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera, and her Ministry provided 20 laptops under the Government’s project of computers in rural schools.
As the Chiwenga family, we have also provided 10 desktops, which will be delivered soon. The President has said no one and no place will be left behind, and as a family, we saw it prudent to contribute towards making this vision a reality. We decided to do our part to ensure that the Insiza community isn’t left behind.

Col. Baloyi-Chiwenga completed her Grade 3 to 7 studies at Sababa Primary School. She also implored various stakeholders to contribute towards improving education in rural schools.

Chiwengas Lead Transformation Of Rural School In Insiza District

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s ex-wife, Marry Mubaiwa, had her left leg amputated in yet another attempt by doctors to save her from a life-threatening disease that is attacking her arms and legs.
According to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200028695/chiwenga-ex-wifes-leg-amputated">The Standard</a>, Marry’s leg was amputated over a week ago after several counselling sessions.
The former model was diagnosed with acute lymphoedema and spontaneous formation of abscesses, which caused large open wounds on her arms and legs.
The recent amputation of Marry’s left leg follows the earlier amputation of her right arm in September 2022.
She is admitted at a private hospital in Harare.
Marry’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, on Saturday told The Standard that the case was probably one of the most distressing cases she has dealt with. Said Mtetwa:

There is really nothing to say. It’s probably one of the most traumatic cases that I have ever dealt with. We hope that we can find closure one day on this…
</blockquote>
Marry has been unwell for years, during which time she has faced numerous legal charges, including the alleged attempted murder of her then-husband, Chiwenga.
Despite clear signs of Mubaiwa’s poor health, the courts have often insisted that she attend hearings.
On one occasion, she was brought to court in an ambulance, and in another instance, her trial was postponed after she started vomiting in the dock.
Mubaiwa stands accused of attempting to kill Chiwenga in 2019 while he was gravely ill in a South African hospital.
She allegedly forced Chiwenga’s security to leave his hospital room, intending to remove life support devices connected to the Vice President.
Mubaiwa is also accused of trying to forcibly remove Chiwenga from the hospital bed but was stopped by hospital staff.
Meanwhile, Chiwenga has since moved on and wedded Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi at the St Gerard Catholic Church in Borrowdale, Harare in 2023.

Marry Mubaiwa, Ex-Wife Of VP Chiwenga, Undergoes Leg Amputation

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga left the country last week for China for a medical review, it has emerged.
Chiwenga’s last public appearance was on May 11 when he and President Emmerson Mnangagwa attended the silver jubilee of the ordination of Roman Catholic archbishop Robert Ndlovu in Harare.
Responding to a question over the vice president’s whereabouts after he missed three events attended by Mnangagwa last week, Presidential spokesperson George Charamba told <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/article/chiwenga-flew-to-china-for-medicals-presidency/">ZimLive</a>: “He went out for his medicals”.
Chiwenga (68), underwent major surgery in China in 2019 to correct a condition that narrowed or tightened his oesophagus, and had previously received treatment in India and South Africa as well.
This is the second confirmed appointment Chiwenga has had with his Chinese doctors in five months.
During his annual leave in January, Chiwenga travelled to China with a spokesman for the presidency saying he would use the time for “routine medical check-ups with his physicians.”

VP Chiwenga Flew To China For "Medicals" - Presidential Spokesperson

Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has responded to ZANU PF’s second secretary and vice president Constantino Chiwenga’s remarks that he is politically immature and should learn to work with others.
Addressing ZANU PF supporters at a rally at Chikurubi Damview on Sunday, Chiwenga said Chamisa’s “job is to herd cattle”, adding that the opposition politician should shun individualism.
Subtly reacting to Chiwenga on X, Chamisa chose to be diplomatic and referred to the biblical David and Goliath story. Said Chamisa:

Speaking at a ZANU PF rally to drum up support for the party’s candidate in the Harare East by-election set for Saturday, 27 April, Chiwenga said:

Chamisa Responds To VP Chiwenga "Cattle Herder" Comments

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga on Wednesday, 24 April, warned currency speculators allegedly sabotaging the new Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency that the long arm of the law will catch up with them.
Officially opening the international business conference at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo, Chiwenga urged both the public and private sectors as well as households to accept ZiG. He said (<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200026063/shops-face-closure-over-zig">via NewsDay</a>):

ZiG is there to stay forever. The new currency will, therefore, not be subject to exchange rate volatility or manipulation by speculators.
So, speculators somewhere [wherever you are] jumping around trying to play around in the supermarkets, we know [you]. Behave or you get shut down or we will lock you [up]. Two things.
The ZiG is expected to provide a lasting solution to inflation expectations, which is critical for sustained price and exchange rate stability in the economy.
Given these boundless benefits, I, therefore, call on the public, the private sector, including households, labour and businesses, civic society and the international community, to fully embrace and support the ZiG currency.

Chiwenga also said the government will put measures in place to curb the smuggling of gold out of the country. He said:

We are going to put measures, strict measures, that can see heads rolling. Every gramme must be accounted for in our gold.
We need our gold and because it is God-given. No one came with gold (to) Zimbabwe, but it’s in our soil.
If we don’t want to mine it, it will stay there, but no one should touch it. So, all our money we are talking about here, the Zimbabwe Gold, is going to be anchored firmly, by our gold and gold, we get it from all our resources.

Chiwenga asserted that the structured currency will enable long-term business planning and encourage savings and investments in the economy. He said:

The stability of the ZiG will boost investor confidence in the economy and lead to increased production and exports.
The economy will also experience an increase in domestic demand as people’s purchasing power gradually improves amid low and stable prices.
Government, through the central bank, will, however, continue to monitor interest rates to curtail speculative borrowing, to ensure optimal money supply and to keep inflation under control.
</blockquote>
ZiG was launched on 05 April 2024 to replace the Zimbabwe dollar whose value had severely been eroded by inflation.
According to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, ZiG is backed by gold and foreign currency reserves as well as other precious minerals.

Political observers say the opposition in its current form cannot challenge ZANU PF amid reports that some ruling party members are pushing for the scrapping of presidential term limits to enable Mnangagwa to run for a third presidential term.
Some blame Chamisa for the state of the opposition, saying his move to sideline key figures such as Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, and Thokozani Khupe weakened CCC and also his insistence on a structureless party allowed Sengezo Tshabangu to take over the party.

"Politically Immature" Chamisa's Job Is To Herd Cattle - VP Chiwenga

The fraud and money laundering case against <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Marry_Mubaiwa/">Marry Mubaiwa</a> was heard in the hospital where the former wife of Vice President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Constantino_Chiwenga/">Constantino Chiwenga</a> was admitted. The former model has been admitted to St Anne’s Hospital since January 11, 2024, <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/bed-ridden-marry-mubaiwa-forced-to-attend-court-from-hospital/">NewZimbabwe</a> reported. Mubaiwa followed the proceedings from her bed. Unfortunately, news reporters were not granted access to the hearing.
A High Court judge, Pisirayi Kwenda, arrived an hour after Mubaiwa’s lawyer, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Beatrice_Mtetwa/">Beatrice Mtetwa</a>, and the prosecutor, Witness Mabhaudhi. Accompanied by a police officer and an assistant, Kwenda joined the hearing. Mtetwa confirmed that Mubaiwa is seriously ill and unable to stand trial. She told the media:

Marry is not well, she has been in hospital since the 11th and we got a report from the surgeon who is treating her confirming that she was admitted last week and that she definitely is not sufficiently well to stand a trial.
So the matter has been postponed to the 14th of February and the interim will monitor her condition and the judge has directed that a government medical officer prepare a medical report for submission to the court before the 14th of February.
I have seen her, Mary is not well, like the doctor’s report says, she has multiple complications so she is almost always on very heavy medication. She is unwell, she has drips and she is just not well.
Both her legs have turned black showing that there is little or no blood circulation. It is almost similar to what was happening to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/09/19/picture-hand-of-vp-chiwengas-ex-wife-marry-mubaiwas-cut-off/">her arm which was amputated.</a>
She did comprehend what was happening.

<h3>Fraud and Money Laundering Allegations:</h3>
Mubaiwa’s case was moved to the High Court because the lower court couldn’t handle it. It is alleged that she sent nearly US$1 million to China and South Africa in 2018. Prosecutors claim that Mubaiwa used her drivers, Terrence Mutandwa and Carrington Kazingizi, to transport $14,000 to China without following the necessary procedures.
According to the allegations, Mubaiwa instructed Memory Chakulinga, the managing director of her companies in South Africa, to create invoices for the purchase of event tents, chairs, and prepaid meters. These invoices were then presented to the Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe (CBZ) as if they were intended for the goods mentioned, but the funds were supposedly diverted to buy Mubaiwa’s personal properties.
Furthermore, Chakulinga was asked to create invoices in the name of Tanor Investment for the supply of event-hosting accessories. The invoices amounted to R203,308 and were associated with Mubaiwa’s Falcon Suppliers FNB bank accounts. In December 2018, the same amount was deposited into the account from CBZ, supposedly for the purchase of tents.
Chakulinga claims that Mubaiwa instructed her to use the funds to buy a Range Rover at Menlyn in Pretoria. However, the vehicle was registered in South Africa under Mubaiwa’s name instead of being brought to Zimbabwe, as Chakulinga expected. In May, another R2 million was deposited into the Bonnette Electrical FNB account. Chakulinga was instructed to use the funds to purchase electrical prepaid meters. Additionally, Mubaiwa ordered her to transfer R496,500 to Martin Potgieter Trust Account at Standard Bank.
According to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), there were financial transactions between CBZ and FNB that were detected. One of the signatories at Mubaiwa’s East Town Commodities, Jeffery Jenje, confirmed the payments and Mubaiwa’s purchase of two vehicles. All the properties involved in the case have been seized by South African authorities.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has described his deputy Constantino Chiwenga as a man of integrity who has executed all national assignments he has been tasked with.
Chiwenga wedded Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga at a high-profile ceremony presided over by the Roman Catholic Church at St Gerard’s Catholic Church on Saturday in Borrowdale, Harare. Said Mnangagwa:

I am extremely proud of my younger brother Dominic Chiwenga. We have worked together with Dominic for about 46 years since the war of liberation.
He was one of our commanders, becoming a member of the (ZANLA) High Command. Thereafter when we became independent, he remained in the armed forces of the new Republic of Zimbabwe and he discharged all the assignments given by the First Republic as well as currently under the Second Republic.
I congratulate him. He is a man of integrity. He is a man who does not take no for an answer he interrogates every aspect of an issue.
I am sure everybody knows that it is not easy to rise to that level if you are not of high intellect.
Dominic has walked a very hard journey from the time of our armed struggle…
Each time I see him, I see the other commanders that have left us and he is still a symbol of that armed struggle which we waged.
I think the Lord above has kept him all this way for a reason and today we are all assembled to celebrate his wedding.
As we go away, we are satisfied that we leave a man of integrity, a man who has seen it all, to continue walking the correct line of the revolution, to continue leading this country to prosperity, and to continue to maintain unity in the nation.

Mnangagwa also spoke glowingly about Colonel Miniyothabo, saying she too was a woman of integrity. He said:

I do not know now, but when I was Minister of Defence she rose to the rank of colonel.

As they were being joined in church, I almost shed tears, when memories of the past when the memories of the past when were in the struggle in the bush.

President Mnangagwa Praises VP Chiwenga

President Emmerson Mnangagwa inadvertently cast Vice President Constantino Chiwenga as a cheat when he told guests at the latter’s wedding with new wife Miniyothabo Baloyi on 23 December the two were already involved in a love relationship when Chiwenga was still married to Marry Mubaiwa, reported <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/bedroom-coup-mnangagwa-spills-the-beans-reveals-chiwenga-cheated-on-marry-mubaiwa/">ZimLive</a>.
Mnangagwa was the Minister of Defence from 2009 until 2013, a time when Chiwenga had just married Mubaiwa.
The now-divorced couple, with three children from the abandoned union, was married from 2011 to 2019. Said Mnangagwa:

Chiwenga (67), a former Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) commander, exchanged marriage vows with Colonel Baloyi at a high-profile ceremony presided over by the Catholic Church at St Gerard’s Catholic Church in Borrowdale, Harare on Saturday.
Some reports suggest Chiwenga is not in his third marriage inside 12 years. The retired army General had been married to Jocelyn Jacobsen (née Mauchaza) with the couple divorcing in 2012. Chiwenga had no children from his marriage to Jacobsen.
Chiwenga reportedly married Mubaiwa, a former model, while still married to Jacobsen.
Posting on X, Marry claimed that Chiwenga and Baloyi were in a relationship throughout the subsistence of their union. She wrote:

Mnangagwa Reveals Chiwenga Cheated On Marry Mubaiwa

Marry Mubaiwa, the former wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, has expressed her desire to move on with her life following Chiwenga’s recent marriage to Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi. Marry and Chiwenga separated in 2019, with Chiwenga accusing Marry of various wrongdoings, such as attempting to kill him and struggling with alcoholism. Marry denies these allegations and believes they were fabricated to justify their divorce.
In a social media post, Marry appealed to be allowed to move on with her life, share custody of their children, and finalize their divorce and division of properties on a 50/50 basis. She said:

Marry insists that if Chiwenga wants a divorce, he should go through the proper procedures and provide a divorce token (gupuro). She also claimed that Chiwenga used her to have children because his new partner is infertile. She added:

She has sought assistance from President Mnangagwa and First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa but has yet to receive any help. Marry says Chiwenga considers himself in charge of the country’s affairs and has the power to determine where the wind blows. The first family told Marry to stop dragging the president and his family in her dispute with Chiwenga.
President Mnangagwa announced in June 2022 that his deputy had tied the knot with Col. Baloyi, a serving officer in the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA).

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was scheduled to tie the knot in holy matrimony with his wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga at the St Gerard’s Catholic Church in Borrowdale, Harare, on Saturday, 23 December, reported <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/new-president-arrives-for-vp-chiwengas-wedding">The Sunday Mail</a>.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is on his annual leave, arrived at the venue earlier today in the company of First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa.
Also present were Vice President Kembo Mohadi, Cabinet Ministers, senior Government officials, senior members of the security services, and senior ZANU PF officials.
The former First Lady Grace Mugabe, former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko, and several members of the diplomatic community are also present to witness the wedding.
Chiwenga legally divorced Mary Mubaiwa, in 2019 by paying a traditional token of US$100, known as gupuro in Shona, which was handed over to her by the then Zimbabwean ambassador to Tanzania Anselem Sanyatwe.
In February 2022, High Court judge, Justice Owen Tagu ruled that the marriage had already ended when Chiwenga filed for divorce in Zimbabwe’s courts. Justice Tagu was quoted as saying:

… It is declared that by the time proceedings in HC 9837/19 were instituted, the customary union between the parties had ceased to subsist.
The ancillary issues relating to custody, maintenance and property rights of the parties are stood down for determination at trial, which shall be set down by the defendant as and when she can prosecute the matter.

President Mnangagwa Takes Annual Month-long Leave

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has announced that the government is focused on creating more job opportunities for young people. He made this statement while addressing ZANU PF supporters at a rally in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo. Chiwenga who is the Acting President was campaigning for ZANU PF candidates, Aurther Mujeyi and Kidwel Mujuru, who are vying for the Cowdray Park seat and council ward, respectively.
Chiwenga stated that the recent recalls within the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party have worked in ZANU PF’s favour. The were initiated by Sengezo Tshabangu, the self-proclaimed CCC interim Secretary-General who claimed the recalled individuals had ceased to belong to the party. Some CCC officials claim that Tshabangu is working with ZANU PF but Chiwenga claimed that the opposition party’s confusion led to the removal of their representatives in Parliament, creating an opportunity for new elections. He added:

Road rehabilitation and installation of electricity is supposed to be done by councils, but they are failing to. The government is drilling boreholes and rehabilitating roads because the council has failed.
Under the road rehabilitation programme, we fixed several roads which include 12th Avenues, George Avenue, Masiyephambili and Nketa Drive and we will continue with the programmes regardless of the failures of the council.
Chiwenga pledged to end the water crisis in Cowdray Park through installation of pipes which will carry water to the high-density suburb.

Ending the water crisis in Cowdray Park was another key focus for Chiwenga. He expressed plans to install pipes that would carry water from the Gwayi-Shangani Dam to the high-density suburb. He also mentioned efforts to address the water crisis in Bulawayo by sourcing water from Eppington Forest and utilising dams in Matabeleland South.
Zimbabwe has a high unemployment rate, and the government has struggled to create enough jobs. Water shortages in the Matabeleland region have been a long-standing issue. The government planned to build a 250km pipeline to address the water challenges, as well as draw water from the Zambezi River. However, after over 100 years, these projects remain incomplete, causing frustration and negatively impacting the lives of Zimbabweans.

Government Is Focused On Creating More Job Opportunities For Young People - VP Chiwenga

<a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Marry_Chiwenga">Marry Mubaiwa</a> has threatened to sue her ex-husband, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, for adultery.
Chiwenga and Mubaiwa reportedly separated several years ago. Chiwenga has since married Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi.
In June 2022, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced that his deputy had tied the knot with Col. Baloyi, a serving officer in the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA).
However, Mubaiwa insists that if Chiwenga, whom she still refers to as her husband, wants a divorce, he should do it properly and give her a divorce token (gupuro). She posted on X:

My husband must be man enough to make it official that we are no longer together, leaving apart does not make things official. l don’t know which “GUPURO” (divorce token) that he talks about because we never saw it but only heard about it through social media. Abuse of authority…
l should sue him for adultery for what he is doing with that girl that has been courting him for many years.
He used to tell me how much he hated her and she would bring him gifts including clothes and we would burn them, this was around 2011 and he referred to her as Zwangendaba.
If he no longer wants me as a wife why not go through the proper procedure of division of property, custody of our kids and whatever else.

Mubaiwa is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly attempting to kill Chiwenga when he was on a life support system in South Africa in 2019.
During her recent court appearance, former Health and Child Care Deputy Minister John Mangwiro told the court that whenever Mubaiwa walked into the room in which Chiwenga was admitted, he would become unconscious even though he was awake before her arrival.
Mangwiro said this while being cross-examined by Mubaiwa’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa.

Marry Mubaiwa Threatens To Sue VP Chiwenga For Adultery

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Beatrice_Mtetwa/">Beatrice Mtetwa</a> withdrew herself from being<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Marry_Chiwenga/"> Marry Mubaiwa’s</a> lawyer in a case she is being accused of trying to kill Vice President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Constantino_Chiwenga/">Constantino Chiwenga</a>.
Marry Mubaiwa, the ex-wife of Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, appeared in court facing charges of attempting to kill her estranged husband but Mtetwa was unhappy with the manner in which the case was being handled. She then withdrew her services.
According to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200018619/do-as-you-wish-chiwengas-ex-wife-tells-court">NewsDay</a>, the court then asked Mubaiwa if she was comfortable proceeding without her lawyer, to which she responded for the magistrate to do as they wished. Mtetwa had requested a postponement, citing Mubaiwa’s pain from a leg surgery, but the court adjourned for about 20 minutes and asked Mubaiwa to provide medical documents.
When the court resumed, Mtetwa officially withdrew herself as Marry’s legal representative due to the perceived unfair treatment of her client. The magistrate then asked Mubaiwa to decide whether to find another lawyer or proceed without legal representation.
Mubaiwa told the magistrate to do as they pleased and was given a day to find a new lawyer. The trial is set to continue the next day with the testimony of former Health Deputy Minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/John_Mangwiro/">John Mangwiro</a>.

Chiwenga, who was unwell in 2019, is accusing his former wife Marry of attempting to kill him when he was bedridden. In court, three witnesses testified that Marry tried to prevent healthcare professionals from helping Chiwenga, with the intention of causing harm. A South African doctor, Willi Leo Sieling, stated that Marry even injected Chiwenga with a poisonous substance, interfered with his medical treatment, and disconnected him from life support.
Marry denies these allegations, claiming that Chiwenga is using them as part of a strategy to divorce her. Chiwenga had been suffering from a condition called idiopathic oesophagal stricture since 2018, which caused blockages in his oesophagus, making it difficult to swallow or vomit. He sought treatment in various countries including Zimbabwe, South Africa, India, and China.

Beatrice Mtetwa Withdraws As Marry Mubaiwa's Lawyer Citing Court Unfairness

CCC councillors in opposition-dominated Marondera have sought to distance themselves from a statement issued by the Municipality of Marondera congratulating Vice President Constantino Chiwenga for his re-appointment by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The congratulatory message, which has been interpreted as an endorsement of Mnangagwa’s victory in the 23 August 2023 elections, reads:

However, in a statement, Marondera mayor, Ward 8 Councillor Abel Nyakarombo, distanced CCC from the congratulatory message, saying that it emanated from people who want to cause confusion in the opposition party. He said:

We, as CCC Councillors, have nothing to do with this wish. This is purely the hand of those who intend to cause confusion and divisions among us.
We, as deployees, remain guided by our leadership. We do not act independently from the Party to which we subscribe.
I want to make it categorically clear, that whoever manufactured this article will answer questions. As a municipality, we do not have any one of us who can act unilaterally.
We are bound by the spirit of working together without any trace of discord among us. Our best tools for us to be together are engagement, consultation and unity.
Anybody who makes decisions without consulting will be fighting our resolve to be a united front.
This is one unilateral decision. Which was taken without consultations and engagements. We have no input whatsoever on this piece.

CCC Dominated Marondera Council Disowns Chiwenga Congratulatory Message

The owner of Murowa Diamonds (Rio Zim) and his son were among the six people who died when the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/09/29/rio-zim-plane-crashed-on-friday-in-mashava-masvingo-killing-six-people/">company’s plane crashed</a> in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mashava/">Mashava</a>, Masvingo on Friday 29 September 2023.
Giving an update on Murowa Diamonds plane crash and the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/09/30/42-trapped-in-bayhorse-mine-collapse-in-chakari-chegutu/">Bay Horse Mine shaft collapse</a> during the Central Committee meeting at ZANU PF Headquarters in Harare on Saturday, Vice President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Constantino_Chiwenga/">Constantino Chiwenga</a> said the victims would receive State-assisted funerals. Chiwenga said:

Your Excellency (President Emmerson Mnangagwa), last night we had an accident at Chakari. This is a disused former German mine. However, when it was reopened, the new owner did not take necessary precautions, which saw the 34 miners being trapped.
First to be rescued were 13 miners, and then followed by eight, bringing the total to 21. Three bodies were retrieved, five are still in there and have been located. So, we believe we might have lost about 13.
Also yesterday, the owner of Murowa Diamonds and his son, as well as four other members, were involved in a plane crash.
I was in Chirumanzu when the accident happened. It was bad weather. Arrangements have been done for the State to assist with burials.

Nine fatalities have been reported at the Bay Horse Mineshaft in Chegutu, with six individuals still buried under debris. Ongoing efforts are being made to recover the remaining bodies. The Civil Protection Unit (CPU) has been mobilised and a command centre established at the mine. Four additional miners are yet to be located, but it has been confirmed that they were part of the teams present underground during the collapse.
Mines and Mining Development Deputy Minister Dr Polite Kambamura told <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/president-mourns-accident-victims">The Sunday Mail</a> yesterday that efforts were underway to account for everyone. He spoke from the site:

There were 34 people underground when the accident occurred. Out of the 34 miners, 21 survived and escaped with injuries.
Out of the remaining 13, nine have been confirmed dead and we have retrieved three bodies that have been taken to mortuary.
We are making frantic efforts to retrieve the other dead bodies and locate the other four, as we try to account for everyone.

According to Mr. Michael Munodawafa, the chief mining engineer in the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, the retrieval operation for the bodies will be conducted with utmost respect and dignity. They plan to utilize a specialized motor that will break the rock without causing ground movement or further harm to the bodies. This approach will facilitate the removal of rock fragments more easily and safely.
Mr. Trevor Murombedzi, one of the survivors, recounted the tragic incident that claimed the life of his brother, Tendai (23). He said they observed signs of an imminent roof collapse in the mine and attempted to flee. Tragically, a large section of the ground above them collapsed, leading to the devastating outcome. He added:

I escaped unhurt together with the other three that I was working with from a group of nine.
The other five, including my brother, were trapped by the ground.

Amidst a sombre atmosphere at the mine site, the families of those trapped maintain hope that their loved ones are among the four individuals believed to be alive. Witnesses reported that the mine collapse happened around 10 a.m. on Friday, and rescue operations commenced later in the evening after 8 p.m.

Update: Murowa Diamonds Owner And Son Die In Plane Crash, Chakari Mine Collapse Death Toll Rises

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa/">Nelson Chamisa</a>, leader of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change/">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a>, has defended his long-standing use of the hashtag #Godisinit in his campaign for the presidency. Chamisa expressed his belief that God will visit Zimbabwe and display His power and strength.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the former ICT Minister urged fellow citizens to trust in the faith he holds dear. Chamisa stated that God has never let him down and will show Himself mightily in Zimbabwe. He said:

Nelson Chamisa’s remarks came in response to criticism, including from Zimbabwean preacher Apostle <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Talent_Chiwenga/">Talent Chiwenga</a>, who accused him of using God’s name in vain and failing to balance faith and action.
Chiwenga argued that if God truly supported Chamisa, he would not have lost the 2018 and 2023 presidential elections to President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa/">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a>. Chamisa alleges that the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Electoral_Commission/">Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC)</a> colluded with the ruling ZANU PF party to manipulate the election results in favour of Mnangagwa.
Chiwenga, a strong critic of the ZANU PF government, particularly his relative Vice President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Constantino_Chiwenga/">Constantino Chiwenga</a>, made predictions before the 2018 elections suggesting that the political landscape would remain unchanged. He stated that there would be an unpopular leader before a youthful one took office following the departure of Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s founding leader. 
Many people interpreted the “prophecies” to mean that Chamisa would become president after Mnangagwa’s first term. However, Chiwenga argues that Chamisa’s claims of winning the 2018 and 2023 elections go against God’s prophecy, which stated that there would be no change in Zimbabwe’s governance system, at least for the time being. Religion plays a significant role in Zimbabwean politics with various interpretations and beliefs influencing public discourse and perceptions of political leaders.
Chamisa, who declined to accept the 2023 presidential election results, has reached out to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to request their intervention in advocating for new elections in Zimbabwe. He proposes that the elections be overseen by impartial organizations such as SADC, the African Union (AU), and the United Nations (UN), rather than the perceived biased Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC). However, some believe that it may be too late for such action, considering that Members of Parliament, including CCC MPs, were recently sworn in. Mnangagwa, the incumbent president, had already taken his oath of office on September 4, 2023.

Chamisa Defends The #Godisinit After Criticism From Apostle Chiwenga

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reappointed Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi as the two Vice Presidents of Zimbabwe.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at State House in Harare on Friday morning before Chief Justice Luke Malaba.
Mohadi resigned from his post on 1 March 2021 in the wake of damning immoral allegations which dogged him towards the end of February 2021.
In tendering his resignation, Mohadi maintained his innocence saying he is a victim of “information distortion, voice cloning, and sponsored spooking and political sabotage.” He said at the time:

Following the recurring dis-information and virilisation of my alleged immoral unions, dispensed through awkward slacktivism, I am stepping down as the Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe in terms of Section 96(2) of the constitution of Zimbabwe (No.20) Act, 2013 with immediate effect.”

Following the resignation, it was announced on 2 June 2021 that Mohadi will be redeployed at ZANU PF party headquarters to be in charge of party affairs full-time.
In October 2022, soon after his endorsement as ZANU PF’s first secretary, Mnangagwa re-appointed Chiwenga and Mohadi as his deputies.
Mohadi’s reappointment resulted in speculation that he will bounce back since the ZANU PF second secretaries have traditionally been appointed State Vice Presidents.

Chiwenga, Mohadi Reappointed Vice Presidents

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga cried for help when his then wife Marry Mubaiwa tried to pull out an intravenous life-saving tube at a South African hospital in 2018.
This was said by Health and Child Care Deputy Minister John Mangwiro while testifying before Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka on Monday in Mubaiwa’s trial for allegedly attempting to kill Chiwenga.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200015934/chiwenga-screamed-for-help">NewsDay</a> reported that Mangwiro, who was Chiwenga’s personal doctor, said he rushed into the intensive care unit where Chiwenga was booked after he heard him screaming for help.
Mangwiro told the court that Mubaiwa tried all means to kill Chiwenga.
He said he was forced to board another aircraft without his patient who needed care during the flight. Said Mangwiro:

When we arrived at Lanseria Airport in Pretoria (South Africa), the accused person delayed us for more than three hours at the airport where she had a misunderstanding with the immigration officials.
She told the immigration officials that her son was Chiwenga’s biological son, but the documents bore other names. We waited for three hours as there was a stand-off.

He said the delay was unnecessary because Chiwenga needed urgent medical attention. Added Mangwiro:

We were supposed to go to NetCare Hospital as we had left Zimbabwe for that destination. To my disappointment, the then powerful accused directed us to Sheraton Hotel.
It was a dangerous decision because it continued to endanger the life of the Vice-President.
We then got to the basement of the hotel and we immediately confronted the accused to say the Vice-President needed life-saving hospitalisation rather than to come to a hotel.
She responded to me saying the Vice-President needed to rest in the hotel. I continued to argue until Major (Blessing) Muringi joined, saying we needed to go to the hospital and I discovered that prior arrangements had already been made.

Mangwiro said after Mubaiwa refused to book Chiwenga into the hospital, he had to phone President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who advised them to convince her to have him admitted to the hospital.
He also said Mubaiwa refused to take Chiwenga to the hospital the next morning.
Mangwiro alleged that Muringi and Chiwenga’s security staff also failed to convince Mubaiwa, which led him to call Dr Willi Leo Seiling to the hotel. He said:

At around 5 PM on June 24, 2019, that is when we were allowed to take the Vice-President into the intensive care unit. She remained at the hotel and she did not accompany the complainant to the hospital.
As a doctor when monitoring the patient to be told to leave the room you’ll then ask yourself what she wanted to do.
You’ll start questioning the type of drugs the complainant is said to have taken.

Mangwiro also said Mubaiwa was accompanied by one Bruce, who was referred to as a medical doctor.
He said he later learned that Bruce was not a medical doctor but was actually a veterinary surgeon.
Mangwiro said he reported the incident to Mnangagwa, leading to Chiwenga’s transfer to China for further medical attention.
He added that when they took Chiwenga to India in 2019 for medical attention, he quickly recovered but became seriously ill after returning home.
Chakanyuka postponed the matter to September 7 for a continuation of trial.

Marry Mubaiwa Tried All Means To Kill Chiwenga, Dr Mangwiro Tells Court

Maximilian Lion, a Zimbabwean blogger, asserts that if Vice President Constantino Chiwenga orchestrated the removal of Zimbabwe’s late founding leader, Robert Mugabe, from power in 2017, then he must strategise a reversal and restore power to the people in line with the liberation war struggle’s objectives.
Lion’s comments follow the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/08/14/doctor-testified-marry-revealed-mnangagwas-alleged-2018-assassination-attempt-on-vp-chiwenga/">testimony of South African medical doctor Willi Leo Sieling</a>, who claimed that Mary Mubaiwa, the former wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, confided in him about President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s alleged attempt to assassinate his deputy in 2018.
According to Lion, Chiwenga may have been betrayed, and therefore, he should not feel obligated to protect individuals who benefited from Mugabe’s demise. <a href="https://twitter.com/maximilianlion/status/1690951879239323648">He said on Twitter:</a>

A proposal for General V.P Chiwenga in light of the evidence adduced during a trial in which a Doctor said under oath that there was a plan to assassinate him when he was in hospital. 
The evidence implies that some of the beneficiaries of the 2017 coup were dishonest players. Had the coup failed, most of the people who made the 2017 – 2023 cabinet would have faced treason trials under Mugabe and a meeting with their maker. 
The chief beneficiary of the coup only appeared on the scene when the heavy lifting had been done. 
The evidence submitted in court infers that there was a great betrayal and deception among the coup players. While others courageously accepted the risk that came with the coup of potentially losing their lives, others saw it as a means to an end while there was no risk to their lives because they were in hiding. 
Whether you supported the coup or not, one can’t help but see a pattern of deception which goes back decades. It is disgusting in all the circumstances. The more one thinks about this, the more one sees a potential avenue for the betrayed to redeem himself in the eyes of the country. 
What General V.P Chiwenga could do is acknowledge that he took a great risk for a mission which made life worse for the country and its people. But he can do something about it. He can correct this situation by putting the country back in the position it was before the 2017 coup. 
He can go further and do even better by ensuring that power goes back to the people in alignment with the objectives of the liberation war struggle. He can establish a genuine republic with accountability and separation of powers. 
How is he going to do this is the question many people will be asking? The answer is, only he knows. He knows the challenges that stand in his way. We can only speculate as to the risk but he knows precisely the obstacles before him. 
If he masterminded what happened in 2017, he can strategise a reversal of the process. This is more than a duty to the country, the people who are suffering and all the lives that were sacrificed during the liberation war. A reversal of the coup of 2017 could be a launch pad for Zimbabwe’s transformation. 
If he can pull this off, the event could prove to be the biggest in Zimbabwe’s history. If he were to do this, he could go down as the most influential Zimbabwean to ever live. His legacy in the history books will be guaranteed for the next 1000 years and beyond. Zimbabweans would be willing to forgive the drama of 2017 for returning to order.

He added that the proposal is driven by the realisation of Zimbabwe’s immense challenges and another five years of the same would be disastrous. He said the country has reached a critical point with wasted potential. Other countries with fewer resources have achieved better organization adding that people deserve a functional country, accountable government, and ethical leadership. He is sceptical that elections will bring change as the process is biased. He says the upcoming elections won’t be fair, leaving Zimbabwe in a difficult situation. The country lacks a democratic model for solutions. He says General V.P. Chiwenga understands the power dynamics. 
Unsubstantiated reports suggest an agreement between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga, wherein the former would vacate his position to allow his deputy to assume the presidency upon the conclusion of his final term. This potential scenario adds complexity to the situation. The question arises whether Chiwenga will demonstrate selflessness and relinquish the opportunity to become president, granting power to a civilian. If Mnangagwa emerges victorious in the presidential election on August 23, he will remain president until at least 2028. Previously, he ambiguously stated he will still be around by 2030, leaving the intention behind his remark unclear, whether it was a joke or a serious declaration.

VP Chiwenga Urged To Reverse Mugabe's Removal And Restore Power To The People

A South African medical doctor, Willi Leo Sieling, told Harare magistrates court that Mary Mubaiwa, the former wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, had confided in him that President Emmerson Mnangagwa had attempted to assassinate his own deputy back in 2018.
According to Sieling’s testimony, Mubaiwa persistently pressured him to administer a dangerous drug called pethidine to sedate Chiwenga. However, Sieling refused due to the drug’s highly addictive and narcotic properties. Mubaiwa allegedly went further, asserting that the President himself wanted to eliminate Chiwenga, starting with a grenade attack. Sieling told the court:

On June 29, 2019, l was accosted by the suspect (Mubaiwa) who was unhappy that l had allowed a surgeon to place an intercostal drain without her consent.
She scolded me and shouted at me.
Nurses reported to me that the suspect was interfering with and hindering the administration of drugs to the complainant.
The suspect insisted that l had to start giving the complainant pethidine.
However, it is a highly addictive narcotic analgesic, which l refused to do.
There were continuous calls, messages and persistent demands by the suspect for the discharge of the complainant.
The suspect started from the beginning and consistently told me that his Excellency the President of Zimbabwe wanted to kill the complainant (Chiwenga) starting with the grenade attack.

Chiwenga survived an explosion at a political rally in 2018, where numerous individuals were injured, and three security aides tragically lost their lives. Mnangagwa, who was leaving the podium after addressing Zanu PF supporters when the explosion happened, escaped unhurt.
Dr Sieling said he received a call from John Mangwiro, the Health deputy minister, in December 2018 asking him to attend to Chiwenga at the Fire Ice Hotel in Pretoria. Sieling stated that he had extensive discussions with Chiwenga in the presence of the suspect, Mary Mubaiwa. He said just before their departure, Mubaiwa gave him $1,900, although he was uncertain of its purpose and considered it a gift for his assistance.
On June 23, 2019, Mangwiro called Sieling again, informing him that Chiwenga was critically ill and required admission to the High Care unit at NetCare Pretoria Hospital. Sieling made the necessary arrangements but waited until 9:40 PM without Chiwenga being brought to the hospital, prompting him to investigate at the Sheraton Hotel where he had been booked. At the hotel, Mubaiwa introduced Sieling to Dr. Bruce Peck.
Sieling said he told them that Chiwenga would die if not admitted to the hospital. Seven days before Chiwenga’s discharge, Sieling visited his room and noticed excessive sedation since the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) discharge. Sieling requested a urine specimen, which appeared normal. However, a member of Chiwenga’s security team informed Sieling that the retired general was being administered Pethidine.
Sieling arranged for a cystoscopy to extract a specimen, confirming the presence of Pethidine. However, he was unable to identify the person responsible for administering it. Sieling mentioned that Mnangagwa requested a report on the situation, and Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda visited South Africa to check on Chiwenga’s health.
Sieling suspected that a member of Chiwenga’s security team might have administered dangerous drugs. Sieling expressed concern for Chiwenga’s need for additional therapy. Prosecutors allege that Mubaiwa intended to remove life support devices while Chiwenga was critically ill in a Pretoria hospital. Chiwenga later received successful treatment in China.
The case has been adjourned until August 28.
