The Government is set to introduce COVID-19 self-test kits, mainly at ports of entry in order to increase the country’s testing capacity for coronavirus.
This was said by Acting Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere while addressing reporters at a post-Cabinet briefing on Tuesday. Said Muswere:

The Ministry of Health and Child Care is ready to introduce COVID-19 self-test kits, mainly at points of entry and in remote areas, in order to ramp up testing in all communities.
The nation is advised that, as of 13 June 2022, the country’s cumulative COVID-19 cases stood at 254 155, with 246 566 recoveries and 5 521 deaths.
The recovery rate was 97 per cent, with 2 078 active cases having been reported.
The number of new COVID-19 cases decreased by 39 per cent to 758 cases, from the 1 241 recorded the previous week.
The resurgence analysis by province shows that Bulawayo Metropolitan Province which was the only province with a more than 10 per cent increase in new cases last week, has now also recorded a less than 10 per cent increase.

On vaccination, Muswere said as of 12 June 2022 the national coverage was 55.6 per cent, compared to 55.5 per cent recorded the previous week.

Zimbabwe To Rollout Coronavirus Self-testing

Leading bread and confectionery manufacturer, Lobels, has reportedly directed its workers at Lobels Biscuits Company in Bulawayo to undergo COVID-19 testing at their own expense.
The directive was issued after four employees contracted the novel coronavirus last week.

An aggrieved worker who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com Tuesday accused the company of using unfair labour laws to force them to use their own funds for the tests. He said:
<blockquote>Last week, four colleagues who work at Oven Four tested positive for COVID-19. Surprisingly, the company ordered all workers in that section to undergo testing at their own cost. This is unfair considering the paltry salaries workers are currently earning.
Worse still, the company has ordered production to keep running despite the risks faced after our colleagues tested positive.</blockquote>
The worker’s claim that they were ordered to use their own funds to undergo COVID-19 tests was, however, dismissed by Lobels human resources manager Andrew Dinhidza. He said:
<blockquote>In the section where four workers tested positive, we have stopped production for the whole section.
All the workers in that section went for Covid-19 testing and those who were found positive were asked to go and self-quarantine.
… Remember we stopped production and asked everyone to go and get tested at the company’s expense.
Those who feel that they are not safe are still free to stay at home and no one will get his salary stopped in any circumstance.</blockquote>
However, the NewZimbabwe.com source dismissed Dinhidza’s statement as “blatant lies” and urged the Ministry of Health and Child Care to investigate Lobels.

Lobels, Workers Clash Over Coronavirus Testing Costs

The Ministry Of Health and Child Care has released a list of laboratories approved to carry out COVID-19 testing and publish results in Zimbabwe.
In a statement, the Ministry said it has noted reports of laboratories carrying out COVID-19 testing without the prior requirement of assessment and certification.
Below is a list of the laboratories that have been assessed and certified by the Ministry of Health and Child Care in collaboration with the Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientists Council of Zimbabwe and the World Health Organization.
