A document by the COVAX Facility organizers has revealed that Zimbabwe will likely receive about 1.1 million doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine before 2021’s first-quarter runs dry, Newsday reports.
The document seen by the publication states that the following countries will receive the following doses initially:

<li>Zimbabwe will receive 1,151 million doses</li>
<li>South Africa  2,916 million doses</li>
<li>Zambia 1,428 million doses</li>
<li>Mozambique 2,424 million doses</li>
<li>Malawi 1,476 million doses</li>
<li>Nigeria 16 million doses.</li>
</ol>
A report seen by the publication stated that the figures mentioned above are subject to change:
<blockquote>This indicative distribution is intended to provide interim guidance to facility participants offering a planning scenario to enable preparations for the final allocation of the number of doses each participant will receive in the first rounds of vaccine distribution,” the Covax Facility said in a statement yesterday.
It is, therefore, non-binding and may be subject to change, due to the caveats outlined below. Nevertheless, Covax partners believe the publication of this information, which has now been shared with all economies participating in the Covax Facility, marks an important first step in providing governments and public health leaders with the information they need to put in place practical steps for the provision of early doses and a successful national roll-out of vaccines.</blockquote>
The Finance Minister who last week said they had <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/29/we-have-set-aside-us100-million-for-the-covid-19-vaccine-mthuli-ncube/">put aside $100 million to purchase the vaccine</a> to achieve herd immunity yesterday said private citizens will have to pay for the vaccine. Zimbabwe will need to vaccinate around 10 million people to achieve herd immunity.

Zimbabwe Likely To Recieve 1.1 Million Doses Of The COVID-19 Vaccine Through The COVAX Scheme By End Of March

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), only 3 countries out of Africa’s 54 counties have made a commitment to pay for the COVAX Vaccination facility.
A report by the analysis dated 21 January 2021 notes that Gabon, South Africa, and Lybia were the only African countries that had made the commitment a fortnight ago.
EIU has said the delay in participating in the facility will probably delay the rollout plan for poorer countries and that will mean some countries will still be vaccinating their populations in the year 2022.
Said EIU:
<blockquote>COVAX facility has an ambitious agenda and could face serious challenges that delay and extend the delivery schedule well into 2022 for many of the world’s poorer nations. World’s most developed and richer countries are snapping up a large proportion of scheduled vaccine supply.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is waiting to get vaccines to vaccinate 20% of its population through the same facility. T<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/29/we-have-set-aside-us100-million-for-the-covid-19-vaccine-mthuli-ncube/">he Finance Minister had said they have set aside $100 million</a> to buy 10 million doses in order to achieve herd immunity just before he said private citizens will have to pay for the vaccines.
