The government reconsidered its position on the attendance of church services saying that both the vaccinated and unvaccinated can attend church services.
It had announced in August that only fully vaccinated congregants could participate during in-person services.
Representatives of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, and the Union for Development of Apostolic and Zionist Churches in Zimbabwe Africa then engaged the government on the matter.
They argued that the directive was difficult to implement because, theologically and practically, the church is an open and welcoming space for everyone.
The government heard decided that, as of September 12, both unvaccinated and fully vaccinated congregants could worship together.
Some celebrated the decision, while others expressed concern about the change.
Peter Musuka, a general practitioner, a member of Chisipiti United Methodist Church, and a survivor of the virus, expressed concern about the decision to allow vaccinated and unvaccinated congregations to worship together. He said:
<blockquote>
I do not know how wise it is. Vaccines cause the body to develop immunity-based resistance to further infections and no serious development of the disease that may lead to subsequent hospitalisation.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe needs to vaccinate 10 million people to reach the targeted herd immunity (66% of the adult population).

Both Vaccinated And Unvaccinated Congregants Can Attend Church Services - Govt

Civil servants who have not been vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccines will be barred from the workplace, and will not be paid in the process. This is contained in Statutory Instrument 234 of 2021. Pindula News presents the S.I. 
<blockquote>
(3) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in this order or any other law, no later than the 15th October, 2021—
(a) every member of the Public Service shall be fully vaccinated, and any member—
(i) not so vaccinated shall be barred from the workplace after the 15th October, 2021, and not be paid while he or she is so barred; 
S.I. 234 of 2021 
(ii) who refuses to be fully vaccinated shall be subject to disciplinary proceedings on the basis that he or she failed to obey a lawful instruction: 
Provided that if the head of Ministry or head of department is satisfied that any member of the Public Service is employed in that Ministry or department has a reasonable excuse for not being fully vaccinated by the 15th October, 2021 (which excuse shall be recorded in writing and promptly notified by the head concerned to the Commission), the head concerned may in relation to that member extend the vaccine mandate to no later then the 31st December, 2021; 
(b) the convener or person responsible for any place at which a gathering may occur shall not admit any person to that gathering unless he or she exhibits proof of full vaccination: 
Provided that—
(i) if any person is unable to exhibit proof of full vaccination, but, being asymptomatic, is able to exhibit proof that he or she has been tested negative for COVID-19 within the preceding forty-eight hours by means of a PCR or rapid antigen test, then entry into the place or gathering shall be permitted at the discretion of the person responsible for the place or the convener…

After 15 October, Unvaccinated Civil Servants Will Be Barred From Work, No Salary

Zimbabwe has vaccinated a total of 500 frontline workers in 3 days. This was contained in the updates that were shared by the Ministry Of Health that shows that for the past 3 days since 9 March 2021 these are the statistics of the people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19:

<li>11 March 2021 – 118</li>
</ol>
The ministry did not shed light on why very few people were vaccinated for the past few days. Meanwhile, in the same update, the ministry said there were 120 hospitalised cases as at 10 March 2021. Said the ministry in the update:
<blockquote>As of 10 March 2021 @1500 hrs, there were 120 hospitalised cases, Assymptomatic 76, Mild to moderate 12, severe 19 and 3 in Intensive case units.</blockquote>
The 3 deaths were recorded in Harare (2) and in Mashonaland Central (1) according to the update that also stated that 10 of the 36 new cases were recorded in Harare too.
Zimbabwe plans to vaccinate 10 million Zimbabweans to achieve herd or population immunity according to the Minister Of Finance.

Zimbabwe Vaccinates 500 People In 3 Days

Over 2700 frontline workers were vaccinated yesterday according to the Ministry of Health and Child Care bringing the total of people who have been vaccinated to 4041. The news was contained in an update that was published by the ministry that also indicated that COVID-19 hospitalized cases continue to surge.
In the update, the ministry stated that:
<blockquote>2727 frontline workers were vaccinated today(yesterday) bringing cumulative vaccinations to 4041</blockquote>
The update also noted that hospitalized cases increased to 156 from 147 the previous day:
<blockquote>As of 22 February 2021 @15hrs hours, there were 156 hospitalised cases, Assymptomatic 64, Mild to moderate 52, severe 36 and 4 in Intensive care units.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the government will next week announce new COVID-19 restrictions when the 14 days lockdown extension announced by President Mnangagwa lapses.
