<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">The Permanent Secretary of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, has updated the nation on progress made in rehabilitating families affected by Cyclone Idai in 2019.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">The Cyclone destroyed homes and lives of people and livestock mostly in Manicaland and the Southern parts of the country. The government in conjunction with other stakeholders have been constructing houses to shelter the affected survivors. Pindula News presents Mangwana’s update on the progress made.</span></p>

PICTURES: 105 Housing Units Constructed For Cyclone Idai Victims

<p>President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promised to increase the social welfare grant to vulnerable families to enable them to buy mealie meal after the government scrapped off the mealie meal subsidy a few weeks ago, The Herald reports.</p>
<p>The president said this during a briefing on the Cyclone Idai Recovery program in Mutare last night when he said they scrapped off the subsidy because it was marred with corruption:</p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p3"><span class="s2">On the roller meal issue raised by Minister (Ellen) Gwaradzimba (Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution), initially this roller-meal programme was subsidised, but we realised that there was no mechanism in place of identifying the persons which we had in mind to benefit from it.</span></p>
<p class="p3"><span class="s2">It became apparent that even us in this room, especially us on the top table, were also buying that roller-meal at subsidised prices and yet we have the capacity to buy without the subsidy. </span></p>
<p class="p3"><span class="s2">Now we have decided to increase the money that we will be giving to vulnerable groups. That money will be distributed by the Department of Social Welfare. That amount from Social Welfare will be enough to buy unsubsidised roller meal. </span></p>
<p class="p3"><span class="s2">That will exclude people like me who do not qualify to be given that money, so that is the model we are taking now. Cabinet yesterday (Tuesday) approved that households who need that assistance will be registered countrywide and these are the people who will be given this money which will be more than the cost of unsubsidised roller meal. This will assist us to target the correct people.</span></p>

<p>The government when the lockdown started in March promised to give one million households $200 for 3 months but the government, later on, said they had paid less t<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/05/26/govt-admits-to-paying-only-200k-of-the-600-million-it-promised-vulnerable-citizens-during-the-lockdown/">han 1% of the social welfare grant they had promised vulnerable families. </a></p>

We Will Increase The Social Welfare Grant To Enable Yo To Afford Mealie Meal - ED

<p>The World Bank has availed US$700 million in total towards the three countries impacted by Tropical Cyclone Idai, namely Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique.</p>
<p>Zimbabwe will receive US$75 million, Malawi US$120 million, while Mozambique, the most affected country receives US$350 million.</p>
<p>The funds will be channelled through the select United Nations agencies to support the people in the three respective countries.</p>
<p>In a statement released on Friday, the World Bank said:</p>
<blockquote><p>The World Bank is activating the International Development Association (IDA) Crisis Response Window (CRW) to provide up to $545 million in total for the three affected countries.</p>
<p>This is in addition to nearly $150 million in resources that have recently been made available from existing projects.</p>
<p>Together, total World Bank support to the three countries’ recovery reaches around $700 million.</p>
<p>The World Bank Group is working closely with our partners to help the population recover from these terrible storms, build back stronger than before, and improve countries’ resilience to natural disasters.</p></blockquote>

World Bank Gives Zim US$75 Million For Cyclone Idai Relief

<p>Food aid donated towards Cyclone Idai survivors in Chimanimani is failing to reach some people who are in need for various reasons.</p>
<p>Some villagers who spoke to <strong><em>263Chat</em></strong> revealed that they received food aid only once, yet they observe trucks laden with goods driving towards Chimanimani on a daily basis.</p>
<p>In Tiya village, a businessman and politician Joseph Makamba Busha donated 50 of the 400 bags of mealie meal. Tiya village headman, SaTiya said:</p>
<blockquote><p>We are hungry and suffering, we are told that people are donating but that food is not getting to us, we have only received aid once and this is the second time. Our people really need this food and we appeal for more.</p></blockquote>
<p>A villager, Tineyi Sarupinda said he was perplexed by their failure to get supplies whilst trucks were taking food to Chimanimani. He said:</p>
<blockquote><p>From where my house is, I see heavy-duty vehicles every day taking food aid to Chimanimani town centre.</p>
<p>To my surprise, since the cyclone hit us a month ago, we have only been given assistance once, we are not sure where the food is going.</p></blockquote>
<p>Chimanimani East MP Joshua Sacco blamed damaged infrastructure on the authorities’ failure to deliver food to the needy. Said, Sacco:</p>
<blockquote><p>Our roads were impassable but now they are being fixed for temporary access. We are now working on distributing food to all the citizens in Chimanimani.</p>
<p>We still have challenges in areas where we don’t have access… we have certain areas which are not accessible yet but today have had people from the Civil Protection Unit who have come to discuss with us our challenges.</p></blockquote>

Cyclone Idai Survivors Starve Whilst Warehouses Choke With Food

<p>The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) is appealing for US$7,2 million from the international community to go towards Cyclone Idai relief efforts.</p>
<p>IOM said that is targeting to assist 90 000 Zimbabweans after the government reported that about 18 000 households are in need of urgent and shelter and non-food items (NFIs). Part of the report reads:</p>
<blockquote><p>In response to the crisis in Zimbabwe caused by Cyclone Idai, IOM is appealing to the international community for $7,2 million to provide multi-sectoral humanitarian assistance to 90 000 individuals.</p>
<p>The assistance includes Shelter and Food Items (NFI), Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), Health, Protection, Displacement Tracking, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and Early Recovery.</p>
<p>Shelter support is vital to the return and recovery of displaced populations. The Government reported that an estimated 18 000 households are in urgent need of shelter and NFI assistance.</p>
<p>IOM will support targeted populations with acute needs who are not yet able to return home and have lost everything in the disaster.</p></blockquote>

IOM Appeals For US$7,2 Million For Cyclone Idai Relief

<p>A Mutare-based freelance journalist, Sydney Saize was seized and detained by security forces on Thursday at Ngangu Primary School in Chimanimani District.</p>
<p>Saize was reportedly investigating the politicisation and looting of donations meant for Cyclone Idai survivors in Manicaland Province.</p>
<p>He was picked up by soldiers and CIO officers who allegedly forced him to “sign” for relief aid meant for the survivors. The soldiers then took pictures of the “theft” in order to humiliate him.</p>
<p>Saize was later released without a charge after the intervention of human rights lawyers. Speaking to Newsday Weekender, rights lawyer Passmore Nyakureba said:</p>
<blockquote><p>Our instructions were to secure his release and safety. He was arrested without a charge. He went there with an intention to find out on the unfair distribution of food relief for Cyclone Idai victims.</p>
<p>He told us that he wanted to investigate the politicisation of food aid. He had his recorder and phone when interviewing the Chimanimani villagers.</p>
<p>He had taken some pictures and recordings, but one soldier asked him where he was coming from and why he was taking pictures.</p>
<p>They deleted the pictures and recordings. He was forced to sign for food aid and they took pictures of him in order to humiliate him. He was forced to do so.</p></blockquote>
<p>The Media Institute of Southern Africa called Saize’s arrest and detention an abuse of authority by state security agents and an attack on Press freedom.</p>

Soldiers Seize Journalist For Probing Politicisation Of Idai Relief Donations - Report

<p>The Minister of Local Government, July Moyo said that two government officials have been arrested for stealing aid meant for Cyclone Idai survivors. The two are said to be from Silver Stream and one of the two would be tried in Chipinge and the other in Rusape</p>
<p>Speaking to the media after a Cabinet meeting in the Capital on Tuesday, Minister Moyo said:</p>
<blockquote><p>As I speak, we have two sets of people who were trying to steal, and they came from one source at Silver Stream…so the people who were stealing happened to be officials who were working there and both of them have been caught.</p>
<p>One court case is going through in Chipinge and the other in Rusape. Some of the things they were stealing are actually ridiculous, but people would do that.</p>
<p>We have another case which has been reported to me of government officials and some other non-government people who also tried to take things and convert them to their personal use.</p></blockquote>
<p>Christine Chideme, a deputy director in the ministry of women affairs was on Monday arrested after she was found in possession of goods worth $3,000 she had allegedly stolen from Silver Stream command centre.</p>
<p>A police officer, Edward Dhumukwa, also stationed at Silver Stream command centre was nabbed after stealing donated goods.</p>

Top Govt Official, Cop In Court For Stealing Cyclone Idai Donations

<p>The European Union on Tuesday announced that it is releasing €12 million for Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi towards Cyclone Idai relief.</p>
<p>An EU report said that the total value of aid rendered by the organisation to the three central African countries now stands at over €15 million.</p>
<p>Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides said:</p>
<p>We continue to stand in solidarity with the people affected by cyclone Idai and the floods in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi. There are still urgent humanitarian needs to be met and we are scaling up our efforts so that relief continues to be brought to the people in need.</p>
<p>The breakdown of €12 million is as follows:</p>

<li><strong>€7 million will benefit people in Mozambique, where up to 1.85 million people are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.</strong></li>
<li><strong>€4 million will provide people affected by the flood with shelter, water and sanitation, as well as food assistance in Zimbabwe.</strong></li>
<li><strong>€1 million has been availed to people in Malawi in the form of food aid and support to recover their livelihoods.</strong></li>

EU Releases A Further €12 Million Towards Cyclone Idai Relief

<p>The Cabinet minister has admitted that there are government officials and politicians who are looting Cyclone Idai donations.</p>
<p>Deputy Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Honourable Energy Mutodi says those officials are a disgrace and an embarrassment and stern measures will be taken against them. <a href="https://twitter.com/energymutodi/status/1115610910779777031" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Wrote Mutodi:</a></p>
<blockquote><p>Government officials and politicians accused of looting Cyclone Idai donations are a disgrace and an embarrassment to the nation.</p>

<p>Rights-based nongovernmental organisations have confirmed claims that the ruling ZANU PF party is distributing Cyclone Idai food aid in Manicaland along partisan lines.</p>
<p>In its latest report, the Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) said it had noted the continued partisan and politicisation of food aid. It said:</p>
<blockquote><p>…In Ward 9 Chimanimani East at Chigwegwe Creche, the local councillor affiliated to Zanu PF and another party member denied Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) supporters relief aid as they stated that only victims loyal to Zanu PF would receive the aid.</p>
<p>In ward 4, Guhune on 26 March 2019, four Zanu PF members were witnessed distributing relief aid along partisan lines, denying MDC supporters aid.</p>
<p>… On March 25 in ward 10 Chimanimani East, the ward councillor and some unidentified Zanu PF members denied MDC supporters cyclone relief aid.</p>
<p>This was even after the President had urged Zimbabweans to put partisan politics aside for the sake of cyclone victims.</p></blockquote>
<p>The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) also noted that the distribution of food aid was not being done fairly. A ZLHR report reads:</p>
<blockquote><p>As a result, there were different versions of distribution lists for the same location.</p>
<p>This had the effect of opening up the process to manipulation by some local leaders including politicians, and other influential individuals, resulting in the intended beneficiaries losing out along partisan, nepotistic and other affiliation grounds.</p></blockquote>

ZANU PF Officials Fingered In Partisan Distribution Of Food Aid

<h4><strong>Cyclone Idai survivors need help</strong></h4>
<p>The MDC Cyclone Task Force, this week made a donation of food, blankets and clothing to survivors of Cyclone Idai in Chimanimani East areas of Copper and Dzingire.</p>
<p>The leader of the Taskforce, Hon Lynnette Karenyi said the team took groceries that President Nelson Chamisa failed to give to these survivors after he was blocked by security forces from accessing the ravaged areas. Said Karenyi:</p>
<p><em>President Chamisa made our task easier because he had brought groceries for the families. We had managed to gather and donated clothing, blankets, lotions and women related necessities.</em></p>
<p><em>It’s been almost 2 weeks since Cyclone Idai slammed into Chimanimani and Chipinge yet certain affected areas have not received aid till now.</em></p>
<p><em>We continue to appeal for well-wishers and other civil society actors to continue helping the survivors. Zanu PF and some village heads are abusing the food aid for political mileage with most of the donations ending up in areas that were never affected by Cyclone Idai.</em></p>
<p><em>More work needs to be done and my task team will always be on alert to offer more help.</em></p>
<p>She urged the government to desist from politicizing food aid and that non aligned groups must be distributing all aid.</p>
<p>She added that there is a need for proper accountability of all donated goods and that no one must be denied access or opportunity to distribute aid to the affected especially when they are the ones who mobilized the resources.</p>
<p><em>Rehabilitation to all those affected must be a priority. People must be relocated to safer areas as a measure to avoid future disasters of this nature</em>.</p>
<p>Finally, she said, the government must give people correct statistics of victims and those in need.</p>
<p>Cyclone Idai hot Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique in March with devastating effects on the three countries. Over 500 people have been confirmed dead in these countries.</p>

<p>South Africa’s telecoms giant MTN South Africa has pledged R500 000 to a medical humanitarian organisation, Doctors Without Borders, to help the survivors of Tropical Cyclone Idai in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi.</p>
<p>In a statement, MTN SA Foundation General Manager Kusile Mtunzi-Hairwadzi said:</p>
<blockquote><p>Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected by Cyclone Idai. The devastation left in its wake is a tragedy that will be felt for generations to come.</p>
<p>A human calamity of this magnitude calls upon all of us to assist in whichever way we can to alleviate the challenges being faced by those impacted. At MTN, we felt that the least we could do was to make a speedy contribution.</p>
<p>We are encouraged and touched by the outpouring of support from South Africa – ranging from individuals and non-governmental organisations to other corporate companies.</p>
<p>At MTN, we hope that our contribution will, in some small way, improve the ability of emergency medical teams to offer much-needed support to the survivors, many of whom are the most vulnerable members of society, including women, children and the elderly.</p></blockquote>

<p>Former Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Professor Jonathan Moyo says President Mnangagwa’s excitement over a donation of USD$2.5 million by the United States of America raises fears that the money will disappear. <a href="https://twitter.com/ProfJNMoyo/status/1114089825253117953">Said Prof. Moyo:</a></p>

<p>President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday seemingly mocked the local RTGS currency while addressing Ngangu communities in Chimanimani. Mnangagwa was quoted as saying:</p>

<p>Do you know Trump? President from which country?…America. Eheeee. He imposed sanctions on us, yesterday he sent his ambassador with US$2, 5 million eheeeeeee…US$2, 5 million from their country! Not maRTGS aaaah.No, I mean the real hard currency from their country (chaiyo chaiyo).</p>
<p>Hey, things do change. Kuipa kwezvimwe kunaka kwezvimwe (life brings both good and bad).</p>
<p>They gave us US$2, 5 million but they told us that they can give us additional support through their station in South Africa. The ball is now in our court. Our only task now is just to come up with a list of our needs.</p></blockquote>
<p>The introduction of the RTGS Currency was announced on 20 February 2019 by Central Bank governor John Mangudya during his presentation of the Monetary Policy Statement.</p>

<p>Dubai’s International Humanitarian City (IHC) has sent another plane-load to deliver humanitarian aid made available by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.</p>
<p>The goods, which include jerry cans, mosquito nets, mats, blankets, tents, buckets, kitchen sets, solar lamps, and vehicles have been availed through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to help survivors of Tropical Cyclone Idai.</p>
<p>The IHC Has reportedly airlifted about 550 metric tonnes of relief items to date. It has not only assisted Zimbabwe but Mozambique and Malawi, the other two countries that were devastated by Cyclone Idai.</p>

Dubai Sends More Aid For Idai Survivors

<p>The World Food Programme (WFP)’s efforts to provide relief aid in Manicaland is being hampered by an acute shortage of Jet-A1 fuel to fly in helicopters in areas inaccessible by road.</p>
<p>The WFP revealed this in its latest update on its work in areas impacted by Cyclone Idai. It said:</p>
<blockquote><p>There is currently a shortage of Jet-A1 fuel. WFP is liaising with the Government of Zimbabwe to identify solutions so that air operations are not impacted.</p>
<p>WFP Aviation has deployed one Mi8 helicopter from Malawi to Mutare to assist in the transportation of humanitarian cargo and personnel to affected areas within the Chimanimani and Chipinge districts. The helicopter is planned to do three rotations per day.</p>
<p>There is currently no diesel available in Mutare. There is no fuel of any kind – diesel or petrol – available in Chipinge.</p></blockquote>
<p>The WFP noted that a significant number of bridges were destroyed making it difficult to access several areas:</p>
<blockquote><p>Bridges at Mhandarume, Matsororo, Mvumvumvu, Biriri, Muusha Primary School and Nyahode are all reported as damaged.</p></blockquote>

Aid Agencies Hampered By Shortage Of Jet-A1 Fuel

<p>Zimbabwe’s military has received praise for its humanitarian work in the cyclone-ravaged parts of the country.</p>
<p>Soldiers were quickly deployed to Manicaland as soon as government officials became of the human catastrophe that had been caused by Tropical Cyclone by Idai.</p>
<p>A photojournalist, Anthony Zinyange, recalls an incident soon after the disaster struck when soldiers walked several kilometres to Chimanimani when roads were impassable. Said Zinyange:</p>
<blockquote><p>They were full of energy and they eagerly wanted to get to Ngangu to rescue any survivors, and they jogged all the way, hoping to get there early enough to avert further loss of life, but they were deeply-troubled and dejected when they discovered that all they could do was recover corpses.</p>
<p>The gravity of the matter, which had been seriously understated in the media, left them ripped apart, but they continued to do their best, assisting those that needed to be taken to safe zones.</p></blockquote>
<p>An elderly villager, Gogo Dhliwayo, narrates how a soldier came to her rescue at Kopa, the scene of a huge tragedy where an entire growth point was washed away leaving 300 people unaccounted for. She said:</p>
<blockquote><p>I came alone, I got foodstuffs for their victims, but I am old and could not carry my load. A soldier came and helped me cross the makeshift bridge and carried my load straight to my home over there [about six kilometres]. My fellow villagers refused saying I should wait for my grandson to help me, but the soldiers did.</p></blockquote>
<p>A motorist who spoke to Newsday from Skyline junction had this to say:</p>
<blockquote><p>They are very good when doing humanitarian work, but when it comes to political issues, ummm, they are something else. I think the problem is the political leaders themselves who send them. Alone, they are humane and helpful, like a people’s real army.</p></blockquote>

Zim Military Praised For Role In Cyclone Idai Rescue Efforts

<p>The leading fraternal organization in the world, Freemasons, through its charity organisation, the Masonic Charitable Foundation has donated £45,000 to survivors of Tropical Cyclone Idai in three countries, namely Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe.</p>
<p>The donation was made through Plan International UK which is working to help survivors, including young women and children, who are at particular risk.</p>
<p>The donation bt Freemason will provide jerry cans, water purification tablets and buckets to people who are at risk to waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid and dysentery as well as bilharzia, sleeping sickness and malaria.</p>
<p>Chief Executive Officer of Plan International UK said:</p>
<blockquote><p>We’re hugely grateful to the Masonic Charitable Foundation for supporting our disaster response in Southern Africa.</p>
<p>This generous grant will make a big difference to thousands of people affected by this devastating cyclone and help get their lives back on track.</p></blockquote>

<blockquote><p>Cyclone Idai has devastated the lives of many thousands of people, with, as usual, women and children bearing the brunt of the suffering.</p>

<p>Cyclone Idai has killed over 750 people across the three African countries and displaced thousands more. Several hundred are still unaccounted for.</p>

Freemasons Donate £45,000 To Cyclone Idai Survivors

<p>South Africa’s government and the country’s businessman Patrice Motsepe’s family yesterday donated a combined R75 million to victims of Cyclone Idai in Zimbabwe.</p>
<p>The South African government through the Department of International Relations and Cooperation donated R60 million, while the Motsepe family donated R15 million. Both South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ms Lindiwe Sisulu and the Motsepe family handed over their cheques to Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Sibusiso Moyo at Manyame Airbase last night. Defence and War Veterans Minister Oppah Muchinguri welcomed the donation.</p>

Cyclone Idai: SA, Patrice Motsepe donate R75 Million

<p>The United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) yesterday sent its regional director for Eastern-Southern Africa Leila Pakkala to Zimbabwe to assess how the UN body can assist Cyclone Idai survivors.</p>
<p>Pakkala met Vice President Kembo Mohadi yesterday at Munhumutapa Offices in Harare. She said the cyclone had serious impact on Zimbabwe.</p>

Cyclone Idai: UNICEF Head In Zimbabwe For Assessments

<p>An army truck on Thursday afternoon ploughed into a crowd of Cyclone Idai survivors in Chimanimani and killed three people while several others were injured.</p>
<p>The villagers, who escaped the deadly Cyclone Idai floods and mudslides, were waiting for the delivery of food aid when the truck reportedly lost brakes and crashed into the anxious crowd.</p>
<p>Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) public relations director, Lieutenant Alphios Makotore confirmed the incident to NewZimbabwe.com but referred questions to one Major Chibasa whom he said had more details. Said Makotore:</p>
<blockquote><p>How can you expect me to give you details about the accident when I am based in Harare? Of course, the accident has happened. Talk to Major Chibasa who is on the ground and will give you all the details.</p></blockquote>
<p>An eyewitness who spoke to the same publication said:</p>
<blockquote><p>I saw three people who were crushed by the army truck lying dead at the site. Several other people were also injured during the accident.</p></blockquote>
<p>The army was roped in to assist in repairing infrastructure, recovering of bodies as well as delivering supplies in Chimanimani and Chipinge following Cyclone Idai.</p>
<p>Hundreds of thousands of people need emergency food assistance in Chipinge and Chimanimani following the disaster.</p>

Army Truck Ploughs Into Crowd Of Cyclone Idai Survivors, Kills 3

<p>ZANU Officials in Manicaland were on Sunday instructed by members of the Zimbabwe National Army not to interfere with the distribution of food aid in Cyclone Idai-hit Chimanimani.</p>
<p>This follows reports that youths from the ruling Zanu PF party have taken over food distribution in Ngangu, Kopa and other parts of Chimanimani that were ruined by Tropical Cyclone Idai.</p>
<p>The incident involving soldiers and ZANU PF officials was revealed by Francis Mandaza, the public relations manager for Harare City Parking, who accompanied Harare mayor Herbert Gomba to hand over aid. Said Mandaza:</p>
<blockquote><p>The army officials had to tell them to go away because the issue was non-partisan. We thought it should be common knowledge that when such a disaster strikes, nobody should be seen to be keen on harvesting politically from that.</p>
<p>We are, however, happy that we managed to carry out our social responsibility (function) by donating food and non-food items to the needy… as a city, we are not only about taking from (motorists and residents through) parking fees and rentals, but also helping out where colleagues are in need.</p></blockquote>
<p>ZANU PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said that the officials from the ruling party may have genuinely been trying to help.</p>

Soldiers Stop ZANU PF Officials From Taking Over Distributing Idai Relief Aid -Report

<p>Zanu PF Manicaland chairman Mike Madiro denied the allegations that his party has hijacked the distribution of relief aid meant for Tropical Cyclone Idai survivors.</p>
<p>Madiro told journalists that those making such claims should bring in the evidence. He said:</p>
<blockquote><p>Remember, there has been a disaster in Chipinge and Chimanimani, and MPs from all over the country have been using those cars branded with Zanu PF logo assessing and helping the situation.</p>
<p>I am not even aware that there are donations that were being looted. Those are just allegations. People must come with evidence; the V11 forms to prove that the donations have been stolen.</p>
<p>What is happening is not good. People are using the relief food to trade accusations. Do you think a person like Minister Mutsvangwa will do that? And this is coming from fellow Zanu PF members.</p></blockquote>

ZANU PF Official Demands 'V11 Forms' To Show His Party Looted Donated Goods

<p>The Minister for Local Government July Moyo says that political parties are not allowed to have any part in the distribution of aid to Cyclone Idai survivors.</p>
<p>This comes as there are reports that several cars emblazoned with ZANU PF logos have been carrying donated items in Manicaland.</p>
<p>Responding to questions from senators in the Upper House on Tuesday, Minister Moyo said:</p>
<blockquote><p>I assure that we do not allow any political interference in the distribution of food, but we have Chimanimani East MP Joshua Sacco who has shown great leadership qualities even if he is a member of a political party. No one has done what this member has done.</p>
<p>Now we have concluded that from now onwards, nobody takes any food even if we are under pressure. Let us not go beyond what has happened…</p>
<p>It might have happened, but we have given instructions that no one gets any food when they are identifying themselves as a political party. Unfortunately, the cars they were using were of a political party.</p></blockquote>
<p>Moyo revealed that the government will now be liaising with Civil Protection Unit (CPU), police, army and UN agencies and other reputable organisations or companies to make sure that all donations go to the deserving people.</p>

Govt Bans ZANU PF From Transporting Cyclone Idai Relief Aid

<p>SEED Co Zimbabwe has donated 60 tonnes of maize meal to the survivors of Cyclone Idai in Manicaland and Masvingo. Its subsidiary Quton donated cooking oil, blankets, matemba and sugar beans.</p>
<p>30 tonnes of the mealie-meal donation will be allocated to Chimanimani while the other 30 tonnes will be shared among other affected parts of the country. Seed Co managing director Southern Africa Denias Zaranyika last week said the Cyclone Idai disaster was the worst in the last 50 years. Seed Co, which operates in a number of African countries, has pledged to also support Malawi and Mozambique.</p>

<p>South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Lindiwe Sisulu will travel to Mozambique and Zimbabwe on Thursday to hand over donations to victims of Cyclone Idai.</p>
<p>Sisulu will be accompanied by members of the business community led by Patrice Motsepe, founder and executive chairman of African Rainbow Minerals. In a statement the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) said:</p>

SA To Hand Over Donations To Cyclone Idai Survivors

<p>Zimbabwe’s government has released another RTGS$50 million towards the resuscitation of infrastructure and humanitarian assistance to victims of Cyclone Idai.</p>
<p>This brings to RTGS$100 million the money the government has availed following last week’s cyclone last week. This was announced during today’s post Cabinet briefing by ministers in Harare today.</p>

Cyclone Idai: Zim Govt Releases Another RTGS$50 Million

<p>Trevor Ncube has castigated ZANU PF officials for being heartless and corrupt by seeking to gain political capital out of the Tropical Cyclone Idai disaster.</p>
<p><a href="https://twitter.com/TrevorNcube/status/1110585817997684736" rel="noopener" target="_blank"><strong>Writing on Twitter</strong></a>, Ncube, who is Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) owner and also a member of the Presidential Advisory Council said:</p>
<blockquote><p>The distribution of Cyclone Idai donations must be left to NGO’s on the ground and not politicians. The heartless and corrupt Zanu-PF politicians seeking to profit from this crisis must be brought to book.</p></blockquote>
<p>The MDC has also lambasted ZANU PF for what it calls a lack of concern and heart. Party spokesperson Jacob Mafume said:</p>
<blockquote><p>They lack concern and heart which is why they flew leather couches to sit comfortably in a crisis and mourning zone.</p></blockquote>
<p>When reached for comment, ZANU PF national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo retorted:</p>
<blockquote><p>That is absolutely nonsense actually. I had the minister of local government yesterday briefing the Senate on the situation in Manicaland on the aftermath. The position is very clear. No party is involved in the distribution of aid.</p>
<p>And the people volunteered, because no big trucks could go there, people volunteered to take food to those places because people were dying and some of the few Zanu PF people went to the ministry of local government to say they have got cars and can they assist. One or two cars I believe were written by Zanu PF.</p>
<p>The whole exercise is coordinated by the ministry of local government and people out of their empathy were volunteering to give assistance since food was not reaching to the people.</p>
<p>But they were told afterwards that we appreciate your offer but we are not going to be allowing any political party to be involved anymore.</p></blockquote>
