The UN Office for Coordination of Humanitariran Affairs and Emergency Relief has in a statement disclosed that Malawi and Zimbabwe are also expected to experience heavy rains and flooding caused by Cyclone Kenneth. The Statement reads:

Statement on the impact of Cyclone Kenneth 
I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and destruction caused by Tropical Cyclone Kenneth which first hit the Union of Comoros two days ago before making landfall as a category 4 storm last night in the Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique on the border with Tanzania.
With maximum sustained wind speed of 225 km/hour and gusts that reached 270km/hour, the storm ripped roofs off of homes and continues to generate heavy rainfall resulting in massive flooding as it moves across Mozambique.
The disaster comes only six weeks after Cyclone Idai devastated central Mozambique, killing more than 600 people, unleashing a cholera epidemic, wiping out crops in the country’s breadbasket, forcing a million people to rely on food assistance to survive, and causing massive destruction of homes, schools and infrastructure in one of the world’s poorest countries.
The UN and partners continue to support the Government-led humanitarian responses to Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. Cyclone Kenneth marks the first time two cyclones have made landfall in Mozambique during the same season, further stressing the Government’s limited resources. Malawi and Zimbabwe are also expected to experience heavy rains and flooding caused by Cyclone Kenneth.
Prior to the storm making landfall in Mozambique, the Government and Red Cross volunteers alerted communities in areas at high risk of flooding, erosion and landslides, and relocated residents most at risk. The UN and its partners pre-positioned supplies and put teams on stand-by to deploy if required.
Today, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is redeploying its leadership and additional staff in Mozambique to Pemba to help coordinate the Government-led response and manage information. Shelter, clean water, sanitation and hygiene kits, food and non-food items, power generation and telecommunication equipment are urgently needed, while the areas impacted by the storm are difficult to access.
Cyclone Kenneth may require a major new humanitarian operation at the same time that the ongoing Cyclone Idai response targeting 3 million people in three countries remains critically underfunded. The families whose lives have been turned upside down by these climate-related disasters urgently need the generosity of the international community to survive over the coming months.

Reports suggest that Cyclone Kenneth death toll has risen to 38. It is also reported that conditions are worsening in some parts of Mozambique with heavy rains and likely flooding expected on Tuesday (today).
Infrastructures including roads and bridges have been lost so far leaving some areas inaccessible and with power.
The cyclone is also reported to have destroyed and or damaged about 30,000 houses, 193 classrooms and 14 health units.
It is believed that Kenneth is the strongest hurricane to have made landfall on mainland Africa.

On April 26, NASA’s Aqua satellite provided an image of the remnant clouds and storms still lingering over northern Mozambique. Tropical Cyclone Kenneth which has since killed at least 3 people and destroyed about 3000 homes, made landfall in the less-populated northern reaches of Mozambique on April 25.

The Joint Typhoon Warning Center reported that Kenneth made landfall with maximum wind speeds of 140 miles per hour (220 kph), the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane. It however weakened rapidly overnight, as it moved north of Pemba.
The cyclone has been projected to also reach Tanzania.

PICTURES: Cyclone Kenneth Destroys Properties And Lives In Mozambique

Cyclone Kenneth barrelled on Mozambique late on Thursday with violent winds of up to 220km/h (140mph), flattening thousands of homes and flooding low-lying areas.
kenneth has now been downgraded as winds weakened but torrential rains are expected to last for several days.
One death was reported in Mozambique after a person was crushed by a falling tree.
By Friday, the winds had weakened, but France’s meteorological agency said 600-800mm of rain was forecasted to fall across the country in the coming days.
Mozambique’s National Institute of Disaster Management (INGC) said 30,000 people had been moved away from affected regions, particularly Pemba and Cabo Delgado.
Cyclone Kenneth hit Mozambique as the country is still reeling from the effects of Cyclone Idai which lashed on port Beira, leaving the city inundated and killing to 1 000 people across 3 countries.

WATCH: Cyclone Kenneth Kills At Least Four People In Mozambique

Cyclone Kenneth is reported to have made landfall in Mozambique. Various sources believe that the place in the video below is Pembe, Mozambique. Evacuations are reported to be underway in both Mozambique and Tanzania. The cyclone is projected to hit some parts of Tanzania and Mozambique.
Zimbabwean authorities have given two varied projections. The Meteorological Services Department has said that it does not expect the cyclone to reach Zimbabwe whilst the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing through the Civil Protection Unit has warned that the cyclone might reach Zimbabwe.

WATCH: Cyclone Kenneth Makes Landfall In Mozambique

Tropical Cyclone Kenneth has continued to gain enormous strength as it barrels towards the Mozambican coastline.
Authorities in Mozambique have declared a “red alert” in Cabo Delgado province as they prepared to evacuate people from the northern region.
Reports indicate that the cyclone’s top wind speed has reached 85 kilometres (115 miles) per hour in the one-minute average scale used by the U.S., making it a Category 3 storm.
Kenneth is expected to gain even more strength before it lashes Mozambique later today (Thursday).
The cyclone is projected to make landfall north of where the deadly Cyclone Idai struck.
Jim Rouiller, chief meteorologist at Energy Weather Group in Philadelphia had this to say:
<blockquote>The latest satellite and high-resolution weather models suggest a devastating impact from an intense tropical cyclone for northern Mozambique.</blockquote>
In anticipation of the cyclone, Mozambique’s state airline cancelled all flights to the northern town of Pemba near the border with Tanzania.
Kenneth threatens the lives of 692 000 people in Mozambique’s two provinces of Cabo Delgado and Nampula.
61 centimetres of rainfall is predicted to fall along the cyclone’s path.

The Ministry of Local Government Public Works and National Housing through the Department of Civil Protection has issued a warning concerning another cyclone, Cyclone Kenneth.
The cyclone is projected to hit Mozambique, Malawi &amp; some parts of Zimbabwe. All people living in flood prone areas are advised to be on high alert &amp; take precautionary measures to save lifes

WARNING: Cyclone Kenneth Projected To Hit Zimbabwe Today

The Meteorological Services Department has issued a statement on Cyclone Kenneth which is expected to affect Madagascar, Mozambique, Malawi and Tanzania. The statements read:
<blockquote>Tropical Storm Kenneth off the main coast of Madagascar is expected to strengthen into a Tropical Cyclone, and if it maintains its present westerly trajectory, it is set to make landfall near the Tanzanian border with Mozambique on Thursday evening (just after 6 pm) 25 April with a circulatory speed of approximately 200 km/hr.
Areas that might be affected by heavy rains till Saturday 27 April are the southern parts of Tanzania, northern provinces of Mozambique and Malawi.
No rain is projected for Zimbabwe during this period till Saturday 27 April; mostly sunny and warm conditions are anticipated as we enter the weekend.
The Department will continue monitoring the conditions and update the nation accordingly.</blockquote>

Cyclone Kenneth: Met Department Issues Statement On Storm's Expected Path

A tropical cyclone threatens to wreak havoc in parts of Tanzania and Mozambique later this week.
The new cyclone, named Cyclone Kenneth, gained strength on Tuesday and Meteo France (the French national meteorological service) rated it a moderate tropical storm.
Meteorologists say that a moderate tropical storm contains sustained winds of 63-87 km/h (39-54 mph).
Cyclone Kenneth is expected to bring torrential rainfall on the island of Madagascar before crossing the Mozambique channel and hitting the Eastern coastline.
The storm could further strengthen on Thursday as it approaches the southern coast of Tanzania and northern coast of Mozambique.
Kenneth could make landfall on Thursday midday, bringing rainfall amounting to 200-300 mm (8-12 inches) from Wednesday through Sunday.
The good news is that the areas that are most at risk from Kenneth were largely spared from any of former Tropical Cyclone Idai’s destruction in March.
