The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) says water levels in the country’s major dams are on the rise, thanks to the recent wet spell being experienced nationwide.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.zbcnews.co.zw/current-rains-pushes-dam-levels-up/">ZBC News</a>, ZINWA spokesperson Marjorie Munyonga revealed that the dams, which had been adversely affected by the El Nino-induced drought last summer, are now seeing a significant recovery. She said:

The current wet spell being experienced in the country continues to push water levels in major dams up with national average at 59 percent, making 1.59 improvement by December 30, the average levels, however, remain below the 78 percent during the same period last year.
We are hopeful to see an improvement as the current rains continue to push water levels up
</blockquote>
Tugwi Mukosi is now at 60 percent, Masembura is at 78 percent as well as Khami and Exchange dams supplied by Gwayi River, is now 100 percent full.

Zimbabwe's major dams have more water now because of recent rain. Dam water levels went up by 1.59%. Last summer, there was a big drought from El Nino, but now there is hope for recovery. The national average is 59%, lower than last year's 78%. Tugwi Mukosi and Masembura dams are at 60% and 78%, and Khami and Exchange dams are 100% full. ZINWA spokesperson is happy about the improvement and hopes for more rain to keep water levels increasing.

Zimbabwe's Dam Water Levels Up by 1.59%

Zimbabwe’s national dam level average stood at 46,4%, which is over 20% below the 68,8% normally expected during this time of the year, authorities have revealed.
In its latest report on dams averages, the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) revealed that there is a continued further decline in dam levels as the water-intensive winter cropping season is now at peak coupled with zero inflows in some of the country’s major rivers.
The report by ZINWA reads:
<blockquote>Dams continue on a decline as the water-intensive winter cropping season is now at peak. River flows have also dropped and some rivers have stopped flowing altogether. National dam level average now below 50%.
As of July 13, 2020, the national dam level average was 46,4%, over 20% below the 68,8% normally expected during this time of the year. Zero flows were also recorded in Runde, Gwayi and Mzingwane Rivers.
Catchments with dam level averages below 50% are Gwayi (40,4%), Mzingwane (41,7%), Runde (39,1%) and Sanyati (36,9%). Manyame, Mazowe and Save Catchments’ dam level averages are still above 50% at 68%, 69,8% and 54,2% respectively.
As for specific dams Harava is 7,2%, Biri 93%, Chivero 55,3%, Blockley 33,2%, Mazvikadei 70,6%, Manyame 65,2%, Bubi-Lupane 41,4%, Exchange 42,9%, Lower Mgusa 57,7%, Insukamini 21,4%, Khami 92,9%.
Bulilima 100%, Mtshabezi 39,1%, Zhovhe 65,7%, Upper Ncema 0,7%, Lower Ncema 1,6%, Inyankuni 40,9%, Manyuchi 45%, Mundi-Mataga 68,6, Silalabuhwa 67,2%, Mazowe 21,7%, Nyadire 0,7%, Kushinga-Phikhelela 86,2%.
Bangala Dam is 29,2%, Tugwi-Mukosi 39%, Tokwane 24,1%, Tugwane 92%, Manjirenji 54,7%, Gwenoro 26,7%, Muzhwi 32%, Mushandike 4,1%, Mbindangombe 85,2%, Mutirikwi 34%, Osborne Dam is 42,5%, Siya 73,4%, Wenimbi 51,4%, Sebakwe 29,8%, Claw 54,9%, and Whitewaters 24,1%.</blockquote>

National Dam Levels Drop To 46,4 Per Cent - ZINWA

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) has released statistics of the country’s dam levels.
According to Zinwa, the country’s dam levels remain largely unchanged as the rain season comes to an end with the national dam level average being 81,3%. Below are the levels for the country’s dams as given by Zinwa:

Zimbabwe dam levels as of 2 May 2017

Reports are that Mazowe Dam has finally spilled for the first time in 16 years due to the rains received this rainy season.
In January, Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) corporate communication and marketing manager Merjorie Munyonga told NewsDay that Mazowe was one of the dams with the lowest volumes at 4%,together with Manjirenji 10,7%, Mutirikwi 7,4%, Lower Ncema 16,7%, Upper Ncema 19,1% and Osborne 28,8%. According to the information on the <a href="http://www.zinwa.co.zw/dam-levels/">Zinwa website</a> Mazowe is currently 100.1% full.

Mazowe Dam spills for the first time in 16 years

The residents of <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Bula" target="_blank">Bulawayo</a> and nearby areas have something to celebrate after Upper Ncema Dam started spilling late yesterday (Friday).  In the morning the dam was at 74,55 percent and rose to 99 percent in the late afternoon. The dam is now officially full and has started spilling.  The increased inflows may be a direct result of Dineo.  It was initially classified as a tropical cyclone and called “Cyclone Dineo” but has since been downgraded to a tropical depression and renamed “ex-Dineo.”  Dineo is expected to affect parts of Manicaland, Masvingo and Matebeleland South.  It has caused havoc in Mocambique, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/02/17/cyclone-dineo-kills-7-destroyes-20-000-homes-mocambique/" target="_blank">where it has killed at least 7 people and destroyed more than 20 000 homes</a>.
What is remarkable is is that only less than three months ago the water level was so low that the dam was in a decommissioned state.  On 24 November 2016, to be exact, the dam had a level of a meagre 1.59 percent.

Bulawayo's Upper Ncema Dam now spilling from only 1.59 percent in November

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) has said that supply dams in Gweru and Kwekwe  now average 102% compared to 46% last year at the same period.
Speaking to The Chronicle, Zinwa Corporate Communications and Marketing Manager Mrs Marjorie Munyonga said Gweru’s main supply dam Gwenhoro is 102,5% full while White Waters and Amapongokwe at 101,8% and 103% full. For Kwekwe Sebakwe dam is 102% full. She said that dam levels increase the risk of flooding for communities downstream and urged people to be cautious when crossing rivers.
