<p>Econet Wireless, which is the country’s leading telecommunications company, says it will review voice, data and SMS prices in both Zimbabwe dollars and US dollars with effect from 16 November 2022.</p>
<p>In a notice to its customers issued this Monday, 14 November, Econet said:</p>

<p>Please note, we will review our ZWL &amp; USD Voice, Data &amp; SMS Bundle price effective, Wednesday 16 November 2022.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>Responding to social a media user who had asked why the telecoms company was increasing prices in USD considering that the greenback is a stable currency, Econet said:</p>
<blockquote>
<p>Take note that the tariff adjustment is necessitated by the increased operational costs as we want to continue providing exceptional services.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>On 1 November 2022, Econet increased its headline tariffs but did not adjust the cost of its promotional bundles.</p>
<p>Since the start of this month, Econet customers have been paying $41.77 per minute, to make a voice call, up from $25.95.</p>
<p>Data charges also went up to $6.6 per MB, up from $4.1 per MB, while sending an SMS was now costing $8.59 per message, up from $5.33.</p>

Econet Wireless To Raise Tariffs Effective 16 November 2022

<p>Econet Wireless, which is the country’s leading telecommunications company increased its headline tariffs effective from 1 November 2022.</p>
<p>The company, however, said the cost of its promotional bundles remains unchanged for now.</p>
<p>Econet customers will now pay $41.77 per minute, to make a voice call, up from $25.95.</p>
<p>Data charges have gone up to $6.6 per MB, up from $4.1 per MB, while sending an SMS will not cost $8.59 per message, up from $5.33.</p>
<p>Econet spokesman, Fungai Mandiveyi, told NewsDay that the new price review will help it to invest in the network and improve the quality of service to its customers. Said Mandiveyi:</p>

<p>Our aim is obviously to offer our valued customers an unparalleled customer experience. To do so, the right balance between affordability and quality of service is key.</p>
<p>The level of investment we make in upgrading our network infrastructure will improve network quality which will directly impact our customer experience.</p>
<p>But owing to limited access to foreign currency, this has not always been the case – which is why we welcome the US dollar tariff uplift.</p>

Econet Raises Voice, SMS Tariffs, Cost Of Promotional Bundles Unchanged

<p>Zimbabwe’s largest Mobile Network Operator (MNO), Econet, on Tuesday announced a tariff review with effect from 8 July 2021.</p>
<p>Econet sent a message to subscribers notifying them of an impending data, voice, and SMS tariff review. The short message read:</p>
<blockquote><p>Dear Customer Kindly take note; Voice, Data, and SMS promotional bundle prices will be reviewed on 8 July 2021.</p></blockquote>
<p>The increase in tariff was probably long overdue given that the last tariff hike was effected in March.</p>

Econet Set To Increase Tariffs Effective 8 July

<p>The government has defended Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) after they recently reviewed upwards charges for most of their services, including data.</p>
<p>Econet, the country biggest mobile phone operator, increased data prices by 225 per cent while NetOne hiked its own offerings by about 65 per cent sparking an outcry from users who say the services were now beyond their reach.</p>
<p>Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) director-general Gift Machengete said that the review was within what the regulator prescribed (30 cents per megabyte) as firms were all along charging less to attract customers. He said:</p>
<blockquote><p>Costs incurred to provide the service are used to determine thresholds within which operators set tariffs.</p>
<p>This is meant to balance the need to ensure service affordability at the same time ensuring the survival of operators.</p>
<p>Operators then get the flexibility to compete on prices as manifested in their discounted bundle offerings.</p></blockquote>
<p>Machengete also revealed that POTRAZ will allocate free spectrum to MNOs until the end of the year in order to ensure affordable data to consumers amid the coronavirus pandemic.</p>

<p>Yesterday Econet announced <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/econet-reviewing-data-sms-bundle-prices/">that it would hike the price</a> of data and SMS bundles. The new prices are as follows</p>


New Econet Data Bundle Prices

<p>Econet Zimbabwe has notified its customers of its plants to hike data and SMS bundle tariffs on Friday 9 August 2019. This follows <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/08/07/netone-to-hike-price-of-data-sms-bundles/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">a similar move by State-owned mobile network operator (MNO) NetOne.</a></p>
<p>A message sent to customers by the mobile giant read:</p>
<blockquote><p>Dear customer. Please take note bundle prices for data &amp; SMS will be reviewed Effective 9 August 2019.</p></blockquote>
<p>MNOs’ operations have been negatively impacted by the 18-hour daily power cuts as they have to use diesel generators for their base stations.</p>
<p>Econet recently experienced a huge network blackout lasting several hours after a power cut disrupted its network centre. <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/07/22/full-text-econet-explains-saturday-network-failure-warns-of-drastic-measures-to-ensure-sustainability/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>It subsequently released a statement</strong></a> which read in part:</p>
<blockquote><p>… Econet would like to point out that the company cannot sustain the current operating conditions of running back-up generators for 14 to 18 hours daily, based on the current heavily eroded tariffs.</p>
<p>We are also now incurring higher costs because of the heavy reliance on generators as we now have to service the generators every fortnight, as opposed to the scheduled quarterly service intervals.</p>
<p>… Given the foregoing, we have stepped up our engagement with the relevant stakeholders with a view to finding an urgent solution to the problem that Econet and the mobile telecommunications industry faces due to the national power crisis.</p>
<p>If the authorities that oversee the industry do not offer quick viable solutions as required in the current crisis, the business will have no choice but to take drastic measures to ensure sustainable service.</p></blockquote>


Econet To Review Price Of Data & SMS Bundles

<p>State-owned mobile network operator (MNO), NetOne has announced that it will be increasing Data nad SMS bundles effective Thursday 8 August 2019.</p>
<p>This follows a similar move by another state-owned MNO, Telecel a few weeks ago.</p>
<p>The notice reads:</p>

<p>Please be advised that NetOne will be adjusting Data and SMS bundle prices effective Thursday 8 August 2019.</p>
