Epidemiological studies have indicated that people who skip breakfast have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
According to a recent study, there was a greater risk of type 2 diabetes in adults who skipped breakfast as compared to those who adhered to a consistent breakfast routine.
The study looked at data on 96 175 people to see if skipping breakfast had an impact on their health.
Cleveland Clinic wellness expert Michael Roizen, M.D., who did not take part in the study, said:

What they found, was that the more people skipped breakfast – the more days a week – the higher their risk of type 2 diabetes.
</blockquote>
Researchers found that just one day of skipping breakfast was associated with a six per cent increased risk of developing type two diabetes in comparison with people who never skipped their morning meal.
And the risk rose with each additional day that breakfast was skipped – to as high as 55 per cent – if a person skipped breakfast four to five days per week.
Dr Roizen said it’s best to eat your carbohydrates at breakfast because the morning is the time when your body is the most insulin-sensitive.
He suggested people think of breakfast as the new ‘dinner’ in order to avoid a spike in blood sugar later in the day.
To get the most out of your metabolism, Dr Roizen recommends eating most of the day’s calories during the daylight hours and not late into the evening. He said:

Eat only when the sun is out or when the sun is supposed to be out. Eat more early, eat less later; and don’t stereotype food – you can eat ‘dinner’ food for breakfast.

Skipping Breakfast Increases Risk Of Type 2 Diabetes In Adults - Study

IONS Club Zimbabwe is mulling building a diabetics hospital in Harare Health Times reports.  The hospital aimed at curbing the chronic disease will help diabetic patients who have risen by 200K in 2 years according to the publication.
This was revealed by Jona Orama Machaya, the Lions Club council chairperson who spoke to the publication and said:
<blockquote>Diabetes is slowly becoming one of the largest killer diseases of our time and we are doing our best to combat the chronic disease. We are in the process of organising a huge awareness campaign next month and also mobilizing resources to build a clinic next year(2020) as part of strategies to combat diabetes.</blockquote>
This comes at a time where there are very few diabetes specialised clinics in the country.

Diabetics Hospital To Be Built In Harare

Speaking to The Herald at the sidelines of a family show held at Warren Park’s Hilltop on Sunday, Zimdancehall artist Soul Jah Love addressed rumours that his leg was amputated due to a diabetic ulcer.
Said Jah Love:

Soul Jah Love performs in wheelchair after being discharged from hospital

<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimdancehall">Zimdancehall</a> musician <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Soul_Jah_Love">Soul Jah Love</a> who is suffering from diabetic foot ulcer has been admitted at Harare Hospital since Saturday. The musician’s situation is said to be worsened by some scars from the accident that left him and some of his band members injured in <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Gweru">Gweru</a>.
A health expert who spoke to The Herald said that if diabetic people get involved in an accident they need to be treated well and revealed that if Soul Jah Love’s situation worsens he faces having his leg amputated. Sources at the hospital who spoke to The Herald said there was commotion in his ward as people were coming to visit him and hospital authorities are considering moving him to another ward.
His manager Marshal Bhima known as Wadis said they were expecting the musician out of hospital after a week and that he was making efforts to get the doctor’s position on the matter.

Soul Jah Love admitted at Harare Hospital

More than 1.5 million Zimbabweans are suffering from diabetes, the Zimbabwe Diabetic Association has said. Diabetes is a long-term condition that causes high blood sugar levels.
At an event of the launch of the association’s website, the government said that it is working with the association to make <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2016/11/23/govt-promises-diabetes-patients-free-medication/">diabetes medication free of charge</a> in Zimbabwe. This would cost the government billions a year. The event was attended by Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa and MInistry of ICT, Supa Mandiwanzira.
