45-Year-Old Man Appeals For US$25 000 For Life-Saving Heart Surgery In India

Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe (THZ) has donated 80 metric tonnes of molasses to be used to prepare supplementary cattle feed in Masvingo’s seven districts.
The donation is aimed at mitigating the devastating effects of the El Niño-induced drought in the region.
Commenting on the initiative, Dahlia Garwe, THZ’s Head of Corporate and Industrial Affairs, said that the programme is part of the company’s Socio-Economic Policy (SEP) to support local communities. Molasses is a thick, dark brown by-product that is left over after sugarcane is processed to extract their sugar.
It is a viscous, sweetened and slightly acidic syrup that is a common ingredient in many foods and animal feeds.
It is used to add palatability, bind ingredients together, and provide nutritional value as an energy source for livestock.
In May this year, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere said that the El Nino-induced drought had claimed close to 10 000 cattle countrywide in the 2023-2024 farming season and the most affected areas are in Matabeleland North and South provinces.

Tongaat Hulett Donates Molasses To Aid Drought-Stricken Masvingo Cattle Farmers

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today welcomed a generous contribution of US$1.4 million from the Government of Japan, aimed at assisting approximately 26,000 people affected by the ongoing El Niño-induced drought in Zimbabwe.
Currently, over 5.9 million individuals in rural areas of Zimbabwe face the risk of food insecurity between January and March 2025, which is the peak of the lean season—the critical period between planting and harvest.
Shinichi Yamanaka, the Japanese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, expressed his country’s concern regarding the food insecurity challenges in Zimbabwe and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting the nation in meeting its food security needs. He said:

The Government of Japan and the Embassy of Japan in Zimbabwe are very concerned about the food insecurity in Zimbabwe.
I hope that this food assistance will help these vulnerable people to overcome the current crisis. We will continue our support to allow all Zimbabweans to meet their food security needs.

With this contribution, WFP will provide cereals, pulses, and vegetable oil to vulnerable communities in the hardest-hit areas impacted by the previous poor harvest due to the drought. Billy Mwiinga, WFP Zimbabwe Deputy Country Director said:

Japan Donates US$1.4 Million To Avert Hunger In Zimbabwe

The United States of America has pledged to support Zimbabwe with an additional US$39 million in assistance to help the country address the food shortages arising from the El Niño-induced drought.
This latest tranche of aid comes on top of the $62 million that the United States has already given to Zimbabwe since the start of 2024.
The new U.S. Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Pamela Tremont, announced the latest donation during an introductory press conference held in Harare on Thursday.  She said:

Today, the United States, through USAID, announced an additional $39 million in drought response assistance to the people of Zimbabwe as the lean season – when food is scarcest – approaches.
Through this support from USAID, humanitarian partners will provide over 500,000 people with food assistance during the upcoming lean season; distribute agriculture supplies and livestock to households whose livelihoods have been affected by the drought; and improve access to water for agriculture and consumption.
USAID has provided nearly $62 million to respond to humanitarian needs in Zimbabwe since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2024.

Tremont, who presented her credentials to President Mnangagwa at the State House on Wednesday morning, used her first official meeting with the Zimbabwean leader to announce a substantial new aid package for the country. She said:

That is why yesterday, I informed President Mnangagwa, and today I am pleased to announce to you $62 million in assistance from the people of the United States this year to counter the effects of the current drought in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe, like other southern African countries, is facing an El Nino-induced hunger.
El Niño is a recurring climate pattern which disrupts normal weather patterns around the world.

U.S. Pledges US$39 Million To Address Zimbabwe's Food Shortages

Rwanda has donated 1,000 tonnes of maize to Zimbabwe in response to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s declaration of the 2023/2024 agricultural season as a national state of disaster.
The declaration was prompted by an El Niño-induced drought that has left more than 7 million Zimbabweans in rural and urban areas food insecure.
Speaking at the 30th anniversary of the National Liberation Day of Rwanda in Harare on Thursday, 11 July, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Ambassador Frederick Shava said (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/rwanda-donates-1-000t-maize-to-zimbabwe/">The Herald</a>):

As we celebrate Rwanda’s National Day today (yesterday), a consignment of 1,000 tonnes of maize is on its way to Zimbabwe from Kigali.
We are grateful for the generosity of the President of Rwanda, His Excellency President Paul Kagame, the government and the people of Rwanda, for this gesture of solidarity.
This is the spirit of ubuntu that Rwanda has demonstrated by responding to the international appeal by His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, in the wake of the El Nino-induced drought experienced during the 2023-2024 season.

In April 2024, Mnangagwa declared the drought a state of national disaster, issuing an appeal for resources from aid agencies and development partners.
Despite assurances that no one will die of hunger, the Zimbabwean government has revised its food relief funding appeal from the initial US$2 billion to US$3 billion.

Rwanda Donates 1 000 Tonnes Of Maize To Zimbabwe

A ZANU-PF councillor in Wedza South has reportedly intervened to prevent a local clinic from using donated blankets, simply because they were provided by an opposition politician, reported <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/zanu-pf-cllr-orders-clinic-to-return-donated-blankets/">The Mirror.</a>
The clinic, which has faced issues with keeping newborn babies warm, received the much-needed blanket donations two weeks ago from Valentine Zinhumwe, the opposition CCC Parliamentary candidate for Wedza South Constituency in the 2023 general elections.
In a telephone interview with The Mirror last Friday, Benjamin Chikuruwo, the Ward 24 Councillor, confirmed that he had instructed the staff at Nhangabwe Clinic to return 20 blankets that had been donated to the facility.
When pressed further on the matter, Councillor Chikuruwo refused to comment, stating that he saw no need to discuss the issue since he claimed he was not informed about the donation in the first place. He said:

Why are we punishing vulnerable people for selfish political ends? I received a call from the clinic staff telling me that the blankets were causing them headaches. I told them to return them to the owner to solve the issue.
</blockquote>
Zinhumwe also confirmed the matter but said he was not going to withdraw the donation. He said:
<blockquote>
I received a call from the clinic staff advising me that they had been ordered to return the blankets last Wednesday.
I will not take the blankets back because I am only making my contribution as a member of this community.
I was touched by the plight of patients and nurses at the clinic which serves over a thousand villagers. It does not help anyone to return these blankets.

He said donated the blankets when he held a peace and drug and substance abuse soccer and netball tournament at Chisangano Secondary School.
Zinhumwe’s donation followed a public appeal by the clinic staff that the clinic had a critical shortage of blankets.
It is alleged that newborn babies have died at the Nhangabwe Clinic due to a critical shortage of blankets and other essential supplies.
The nursing staff are sometimes forced to give up their own personal blankets in a desperate effort to keep vulnerable patients warm.
This dire situation has led to patients, including expectant mothers, being discharged prematurely from the clinic, further jeopardizing their health.
When contacted by The Mirror, the clinic’s acting sister in charge, Annasia Mudima, stated that she was not permitted to comment to the media on the matter.
In response to the reported incident, ZANU PF’s Director for Information and Publicity, Farai Marapira, claimed that the party welcomes development from everyone, regardless of political affiliation. He said:

We have never heard of such activities. The President has called all Zimbabweans regardless of political and social lines to assist in development.
This is our country and we have to develop it. We want an opposition that also contributes to development.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) deputy spokesperson in Mashonaland East Province, Assistant Inspector Misheck Denhere said he is not aware of the matter.
In 2019, the then Chiredzi West MP, Farai Musikavanhu, reportedly withdrew hospital beds and other medical supplies donated to Chiredzi Polyclinic by an opposition MDC official.
Musikavanhu reportedly dumped the goods donated by John Mangange outside the council offices.
Mangange was based in the United Kingdom. He had contested for the parliamentary seat but lost to Musikavanhu.
Musikavanhu reportedly teamed up with State Security agents to forcibly remove an ambulance, 30 wheelchairs, three 5,000-litre water tanks, 10 electric-operated beds, BP testing kits from the clinic and other items.

ZANU-PF Councillor Blocks Clinic From Using Opposition-Donated Blankets

Renowned clinician and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Arise Hospital in Indiana, United States of America (USA) Sadock Mashindi has built a clinic in his rural village in Zaka, in Masvingo Province.
Mashindi told <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/us-based-clinician-builds-clinic-in-zaka/">The Mirror</a> that Nyamandlophu Clinic, which is located in Dahwa Village in Zaka Ward 31 under Chief Bota, will be commissioned later this year and it will be offering free services.
<h2>His Motivation</h2>
Mashindi, who is also a pastor in the Church of Christ, revealed that he was motivated to build the clinic after losing his relatives including his father from treatable diseases due to a critical shortage of clinics. He said:
<blockquote>
I lost my father and relatives because we used to travel long distances with patients to other clinics and on the way some people died before accessing the clinic.
I started this project five years ago and the clinic will be officially opened this year. We are doing that as a way of helping the communities through our Christian values.
</blockquote>
Nyamandlophu Clinic is expected to serve at least 5,000 villagers in Ward 31, the new resettlement area, the Dzoro area, the Bota area, and parts of Zaka South and East.
<h2>Source of Funds</h2>
Mashindi said he used his own resources and also got help from family and friends to complete the project.
The project is part of his Social Corporate Responsibility (CSR) to his village of origin. Said Mashindi:
<blockquote>
My idea is to establish a mission in my rural village. We want to build a primary and a secondary school as part of the mission and the establishment of an orphanage is always on the cards. As you know we have only two mission schools in Zaka and I want to establish a third one.
I want to thank my family, friends and church members for supporting me to establish this project. They supported me from day one.
My wife who is a medical doctor supported me and my kids sacrificed in a big way to build my faith-based clinic.
</blockquote>
<h2>Other acts of charity</h2>
Mashindi said he donated medication and equipment to Machiva Clinic. He is currently assisting villagers through mobile clinics with a team of doctors.
Mashindi was a teacher at Dewure High School in Gutu before relocating to the USA where he worked as a Regional Clinician Counselor before establishing his own hospital.

U.S. Based Zimbabwean Medical Doctor Builds Clinic In Zaka, To Offer Free Services

The Government of Zimbabwe has donated US$500,000 to Palestine through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
In a statement issued this Thursday, 04 April, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said President Emmerson Mnangagwa authorized the allocation of funds to assist Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Reads the statement:

Today, the Government donated US$500,000 to the Palestinian people through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. H.E. President Mnangagwa authorized the allocation of funds specifically for Gaza’s suffering population as assistance.
Zimbabwe expressed its sadness over Israel’s continuous devastation of the Gaza Strip and strongly condemned these actions.
</blockquote>
The donation comes as critical aid agencies have imposed severe constraints on essential humanitarian efforts in the enclave.
According to <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2024/04/04/middleeast/gaza-wck-aid-suspended-famine-intl/index.html">CNN</a>, at least three aid providers are suspending operations in Gaza after Israeli airstrikes this week killed seven workers from World Central Kitchen (WCK), an aid group that was central to a much-touted new sea corridor from Cyprus.
The killings, which included six foreign victims, caused an international uproar against Israel. The victims were British, Polish, Australian, and Palestinian and also included a dual US-Canadian citizen. 
Israel has taken responsibility for the killings, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying on Tuesday that Israeli forces had “unintentionally struck innocent people in the Gaza Strip.”
Imagery of three destroyed vehicles analyzed by CNN however showed that the first vehicle was 2.4 kilometres apart from the third, indicating that they were hit by separate strikes.
According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), all 2.2 million people in Gaza do not have enough food to eat, with half of the population on the brink of starvation and famine.
UNRWA’s convoys have previously been hit by Israeli fire, and the group has been banned by Israel from operating in Gaza’s north.
On Monday, the Cypriot foreign ministry reported that a vessel organized by WCK, carrying approximately 332 tons of humanitarian aid, departed from Gaza without unloading most of its cargo due to the deadly strike on WCK workers.
US President Joe Biden expressed outrage over the aid workers’ deaths and called for better protection for civilians and aid workers.
Recently, the first airdrop of US humanitarian aid was received in Gaza, providing much-needed supplies.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas, a militant group ruling the Gaza Strip, has deep-rooted causes and has led to multiple rounds of violence over the years.
The Gaza-Israel conflict is a localized part of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which began in 1948.
In 1948, after World War II and the Holocaust, Britain withdrew from the area known as Palestine.
Jewish leaders declared the creation of the State of Israel, intended as a haven for Jews fleeing persecution and a national homeland.
Fighting between Jewish and Arab militias intensified, leading to the Arab-Israeli War.
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled or were forced out of their homes during this period, which they refer to as Al Nakba (the “Catastrophe”).
Hamas won elections and took control of Gaza in 2006, and since then, Gaza has witnessed protests, bombings, land assaults, and other acts of violence.
The ongoing Israeli-Hamas war began when Hamas launched a surprise attack on southern Israel from the Gaza Strip on 07 October 2023.
In an organized operation, the border fence was breached at multiple points, catching Israel’s security forces off-guard.
The attackers proceeded into civilian areas, resulting in violence and chaos. Militants took captives from a wide swath of territory along Gaza’s border with southern Israel.
Hamas stated that the attack aimed to free Palestinian prisoners, halt Israeli aggression at the al-Aqsa Mosque, and break the siege on Gaza.
Following the attack, Israel declared war on Hamas, leading to sustained Israeli air and artillery strikes in Gaza.

Zimbabwe Donates US$500,000 To Palestine

Minister of Health and Child Care, Douglas Mombeshora, asserts that the results-based finance (RBF) model, with a specific focus on maternal and neonatal healthcare, has achieved remarkable success.
RBF involves a mechanism where funders make payments to agents responsible for achieving specific, predefined results. These results are verified independently, and funding is released upon successful achievement.
RBF aims to improve development outcomes by creating accountability and incentivizing cost-effectiveness. It ensures that development funding is tied to verified results.
During the conclusion of the Health Sector Development Support Project in Harare, Mombeshora highlighted that the program successfully reduced maternal deaths and addressed related challenges. He said (via <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200024985/zim-receives-new-us15m-health-grant">NewsDay</a>):

Another notable innovation was the quality-focused RBF initiative implemented in selected central and provincial hospitals which has contributed to improved quality of maternal and neonatal services as evidenced by improvement in clinical quality indicators, and improved availability of medicines and sundries resulting in a reduction of the time it takes to conduct Caesarean sections after a decision is made and increased staff motivation and teamwork which is partly attributable to staff incentives that are given.

The Results-Based Financing (RBF), introduced in 2011 through collaboration between the government and the World Bank, aimed to bolster the Health and Child Care Ministry’s efforts in enhancing the availability, accessibility, and utilization of high-quality healthcare services, specifically targeting maternal, newborn, and child health. Said Mombeshora:

The close-out of the Health Sector Development Support Project does not mark the end of our efforts, but rather the beginning of a new chapter.
While the gains made thus far are commendable, there is a need to keep the momentum.

The close-out marked the commencement of a renewed relationship through a new US$15 million essential health services grant.
The grant seeks to strengthen the health sector by capacitating about 25 secondary care facilities countrywide.

The money was raised from the company’s annual iGo half marathon which was held last year in Harare and Bulawayo where 1 422 athletes participated in different races.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Cimas chief marketing officer Tatenda Madzikanda said:

At last year’s iGo Half Marathon, Cimas had anticipated having 1 000 athletes for both Harare and Bulawayo, but the event was oversubscribed and raised US$13 753.
Cancer Association of Zimbabwe general manager Junior Mavu said it is through such donations from Cimas that cancer patients and their families are supported. Said Mavu:

This year’s edition of the iGo Half Marathon is expected to be even bigger and better, targeting 2 000 runners in both Harare and Bulawayo.
The half marathon also raises awareness about men’s health and wellness, promoting a sense of companionship and solidarity with all men battling prostate and testicular cancer.
Last month, Cimas Health Group donated 500 Novo Nordisk Levemir Insulin Pens worth $27 500 to the Diabetes Association of Zimbabwe.
The donation was a considerable boost for the diabetic community in Zimbabwe to assist those affected by the chronic disease, providing them with the essential medication and support required to manage their condition effectively.

Cimas Donates US$13 000 To Cancer Association Of Zimbabwe

Nyasha Mushekwi has donated football boots estimated at over US$25 000 to his ex-club, CAPS United, ahead of the 2024 Castle Lager Premiership season next month.
Mushekwi, who currently plays for Chinese Super League club Zhejiang, visited the Green Machine at their training base in Harare on Saturday and handed over more than 60 pairs of football boots to the players.
CAPS United owner, Farai Jere has hailed Mushekwi for continuing to support Makepekepe materially. Said Jere (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/mushekwi-donates-us25k-boots-to-caps-utd/">The Herald</a>):

I almost cried when I came back to see that everyone at the time got something including those who came to watch the team training.
He brought at least 60 pairs of soccer boots, real boots with a value of at least US$340 per pair. It’s a donation which you can’t find anywhere every day.
We are talking of something between US$25 000 to US$35 000 which he poured to the team if we are to put it into monetary terms.
He deserves a special place in the CAPS United family. I am very happy with the gesture done by Mushekwi. Just imagine he flew in only for that. It means he values this team a lot.
I am very grateful as the president of the club. Sometimes I look at it and say maybe this is why he is where he is now.

Mushekwi first joined CAPS United as a raw striker given his basketball background but he quickly became an accomplished goal scorer.
He moved to South Africa where he joined Mamelodi Sundowns before moving to China where he has been plying his trade for several years now.
Mushekwi donated several items to the Green Machine including purchasing a luxury bus for the team three years ago.

Mushekwi Donates US$25 000 Soccer Boots To CAPS United

Uralchem Group, a Russian fertiliser manufacturer, has reportedly fully loaded a humanitarian shipment of over 23 000 tonnes of fertilisers for Zimbabwe.
According to <a href="https://seanews.ru/en/2023/12/15/en-uralchem-ships-humanitarian-consignment-for-zimbabwe/">Sea News</a>, the consignment was loaded onto a vessel in the ports of Riga, Latvia, and Ghent, Belgium, and has started its journey to the port of Beira in Mozambique.
From Beira, the shipment, comprising bulk loads of potash and NPKS fertilizers, will be transported to Zimbabwe by land.
The shipment is facilitated by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), which has chartered a vessel to transport the consignment as part of UNCTAD-led efforts.
Uralchem Group will reportedly cover the sea freight and other delivery costs.
The delivery for Zimbabwe is the Group’s fourth donation in a series of humanitarian shipments of its fertilisers to Africa.
According to Sea News, to date, Uralchem Group has dispatched over 100 000 tonnes of fertilizers to Africa free of charge.
More than 77 000 tonnes of this amount was shipped from ports and warehouses in the European Union in cooperation with WFP to Malawi, Kenya and now to Zimbabwe.
Russia has been involved in providing aid and assistance to various African countries since the days of the wars of independence from the 1960s to the 1970s.
Since then, Russian aid to Africa has been on development projects, humanitarian assistance, and collaboration in areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and natural resources.
The intention behind these initiatives is to strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties between Russia and the world’s second-most populous continent.
Critics say Africa has a leadership crisis that makes the continent rely on handouts from other countries when it is endowed with abundant natural resources.

23 000 Tonnes Of Russian Fertiliser En Route To Zimbabwe

China has delivered an assortment of military equipment to Zimbabwe, including armoured fighting vehicles and machine guns.
The donation is worth US$28 million according to a report by <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/zimbabwe-receives-us28-million-worth-military-gift-from-china/">ZimLive</a>.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa received the equipment from the Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding at Inkomo Barracks in Harare on Wednesday.
Chinese military officers are in Zimbabwe to conduct training on the handling of the equipment.
President Mnangagwa said the military hardware “will assist in ensuring that the Zimbabwe Defence Forces remains an efficient and capable force.” He added:

This delivery of military gratis equipment will go a long way towards consolidating our ongoing quest to modernise the ZDF.
May I once again recognise China as a consistent friend of Zimbabwe. Over the last 23 years, the socioeconomic growth, development and prosperity of our country have been weighed down by the albatross of the Western-imposed illegal sanctions.

China Donates US$28 Million Worth Of Military Hardware To Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has received US$32.4 million from the United Kingdom which will support the southern African country’s education sector, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200020363/us32m-windfall-for-zim-education-sector">NewsDay</a>.
The grant will benefit disadvantaged schools, support a new curriculum and improve student retention.
Speaking during the launch of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) funding, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo said:

The Girl Education Acceleration (GEA) is a pivotal investment that will boost support to girls where they lag behind boys more so at a time when some gains realised pre-COVID-19 have eroded.
Transforming education through improved equitable access to quality education and relevant learning for all is needed now in Zimbabwe.
We need to reimagine education and combat inequality, to ensure that all children gain foundational skills to navigate the green and digital transitions.

British ambassador to Zimbabwe Peter Vowles said the country has received over US$111 million in grants since it joined the GPE in 2013. He said:

UK Avails US$32 Million Grant For Zimbabwean Education Sector

The ZANU PF candidate for Ward 2 in Plumtree in the 23-24 August 2023 general elections, Richard Khumalo, has been accused of demanding goal posts which he donated to a school in the area after he lost to Zanele Ndlovu of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
According to a message posted on a community WhatsApp group, Khumalo wants to uproot the goalposts he donated to Matiwaza Primary School. Read the text:

A losing Plumtree councilor, who contested on a ZANU PF ticket in the just ended August 23 harmonised plebiscite has gone on a rampage demanding all his donations from the public…
</blockquote>
The text also said Khumalo demanded to be reimbursed for the money, which he used to transport the goalposts to the school.
When contacted for a comment by the <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local/article/200019771/losing-zanu-pf-candidate-reclaims-donation">Southern Eye</a>, Khumalo did not deny the charges but claimed that the facts had been distorted.
He said the school approached him seeking assistance to purchase the goalposts. Said Khumalo:

I agreed to their request but told them my goalposts were far out of town and needed transport to ferry them to the school.
We then made an arrangement that they provide their own transport to get them.
A meeting organised by the school development committee was held where it was agreed that each parent would contribute US$1 towards hiring a vehicle to ferry the material.

Khumalo said that he hired one of his friends for US$150 to transport the material on condition that he would be paid upon delivery. He said:

Three months down the line, they have not paid for the transport. They influenced each other that I was campaigning under a ZANU PF ticket, leading to some parents not paying for the transport fare as previously agreed.
</blockquote>
He said that as there was no official handover, he remained the owner of the goalposts. Said Khumalo:

They need to pay the money so that there will be an official handover.
</blockquote>
They should not mix the issue of goalposts and our politics… they should just pay the person, who ferried the goalposts his money.
Khumalo is not the first ZANU PF losing candidate seeking to reclaim a donation since the 2023 Harmonised Elections.

Less than three days after the results of the August 2023 elections were announced, Chidzomba took the surprising step of dismantling the borehole.
Initially, he had locked the borehole, but later he made the decision to remove the equipment altogether.

Losing ZANU PF Council Candidate Reclaims Donation

United States-based Zimbabwean football enthusiast, Innocent Hadebe, has urged local football administrators to take school football seriously and make every attempt to take part in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Schools Competition.
Hadebe said the lifting of the country’s suspension by FIFA provides local football administrators with an opportunity to develop football at the grassroots level.
<a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/football-equipment-for-bulawayo-schools/">The Sunday News</a> reported that Hadebe and Premier Soccer League chief executive officer, Kenny Ndebele on Wednesday handed over football equipment sourced from Puma in the United States to schools in Bulawayo.
The Puma merchandise, worth over US$6 600, was donated to Imbizo Primary School and Matshayiskhova Primary School both in Luveve, Bulawayo.
Speaking on the sidelines of a handover of the football equipment, Hadebe said there was a need to invest in grassroots football. He said:

I am excited that Zimbabwe’s suspension from the world football family was recently lifted and this presents a lot of opportunities ahead for young players.
It is important that we hone emerging talent and fund grassroots football allowing youngsters to flourish.

Bulawayo Schools Receive Football Equipment Sourced From Puma

France has availed US$2.5 million to strengthen Zimbabwe’s routine immunisation and the integration of COVID-19 vaccination into the routine vaccination programme.
In <a href="https://www.unicef.org/zimbabwe/press-releases/french-government-supports-routine-immunization-and-covid-19-vaccination-zimbabwe">a statement</a>, UNICEF said French Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Laurent Chevallier, and the French Regional Counselor for Global Health in Southern Africa, Thomas Mourez, conducted a field visit in Harare.
The visit, which took place ahead of World Health Day on 8 April, was facilitated by the Ministry of Health and Child Care and UNICEF. Reads part of the statement:

The Government of France is the third donor to the COVAX facility, which aims – through Gavi, the Global Vaccine Alliance – to improve equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines and ultimately scale up to COVID-19 vaccination.

UNICEF noted the significant progress made by Zimbabwe in reducing maternal mortality, though the neonatal mortality rate is still high. It said:

Zimbabwe’s indicators have shown some progress. According to the 2022 Population Census, maternal mortality dropped from 462 per 100,000 live births in 2019 to 363 per 100,000 live births in 2022.
Under-five mortality declined from 65 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2019 to 40 in 2022.
Since 2010, the number of children suffering from chronic malnutrition was reduced from nearly one child out of three to less than one child out of four.
But neonatal mortality rate remains a challenge. It stands at 32 deaths per 1,000 live births, above the 12 per 1,000 live births set forward for the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals target.

France Donates US$2.5 Million To Zimbabwe For Routine Immunisation

The Redcliff Primary School head and the School Development Committee (SDC) recently snubbed the local Member of Parliament who had gone to donate laptops at the school.
Redcliff MP, Lloyd Mukapiko (MDC Alliance), donated laptops at the school from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
He was made to wait for an hour before he was attended to by school authorities as the school head, “was at home, ill.”
Members of the SDC, who are alleged ZANU PF members, were also absent during the donation ceremony. Said Mukapiko:

I would have been happy to present this donation to the school development committee.
Unfortunately, they had their own political reasons for staying away from this event, which is quite unfortunate.
This donation of computers is benefiting learners here and that is development and development has nothing to do with politics.
We mustn’t destroy the future of our country because of politics, development must take precedence.
CDF is meant for constituency development and development doesn’t locate anyone based on their political affiliations.

Mukapiko said this was not the first time ZANU PF supporters have rejected the opposition MP’s donation. He said:

We had a similar situation in nearby resettlement areas in Grasslands.
However, we managed to resolve our differences and we are now working together.

Despite the fact that only 28 people voted for me in Grasslands, I have gone on to construct a classroom block in that ward.

School Head "Refuses" Computers Donation By Opposition MP

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has donated farming implements and a bus to the Seventh-day Adventist-run Solusi University in Figtree.
The equipment includes tractors with ploughs, planters, harrows, and a 40-seater bus.
The donation was handed over to Solusi University at the institution’s 26th graduation ceremony by the guest of honour and businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei.
Tagwirei is the founder and chief executive of Sakunda Holdings and an elder in the SDA church.
He said to complement the President’s donation, he donated a 60-seater bus, 10-tonne and four-tonne trucks, and three tractors to the university. Said Tagwirei:

The President says he wants to help Solusi because it has 3 000 hectares of land, hence the donation of the tractor and other implements.
The President said he is concerned about the children, and the University students and has donated a 40-seater bus.
The President does not speak to the gallery like others, the bus is here, the tractor is here.
… We want the university to be self-sufficient, and as such we shall assist the university with setting up solar energy and fixing the sewer and water reticulation systems and all this will take 18 months to be completed.
We want Solusi to be self-sustainable and the trust will raise funds to go into commercial activities.

Tagwirei said salaries for workers at Solusi will be increased by 50 per cent and the university will now offer allowances to lecturers.
He also said the university will reduce prices for food at the canteen from US$2 to 50 cents.
Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Tino Machakaire gave the university a 75-horse power tractor with all the implements that go with it.
Managing director at Fossil Contracting Obey Chimuka donated a car for the Vice Chancellor’s wife and another for one of the University’s Deans.
Trek Petroleum Managing director Innocent Mugwisi donated a car and fuel amounting to 5 000 litres per month for the next 18 months to the newly set up Solusi University Development Trust.

The Embassy of Australia on Thursday delivered medical equipment worth US$62 000 to the Sally Mugabe Paediatric Hospital.
The medical equipment consisted of infant ventilators, multipara meter monitors, diagnostic sets, and infusion pumps.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the hospital, Australian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Bronte Moules said:

The government of Japan has donated another US$500 000 to the World Food Programme (WFP) towards the provision of food aid to Zimbabweans.
In a statement on Tuesday, Japan’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Satoshi Tanaka, said:

In collaboration with WFP, the people of Japan continue to support the most vulnerable in Zimbabwe to address their immediate food needs during the lean season.

WFP’s representative and country director, Francesca Edelmann, welcomed the donation saying it has come at the right time. Said, Edelmann:

Not only has poor rainfall during the recent growing season resulted in widespread crop failure, but prices of food, fuel, and fertiliser have also surged due to the conflict in Ukraine.
Families are now being forced to sell off livestock and other precious belongings to be able to buy food.

Since 2019, Japan has contributed over US$24.6 million to WFP-supported food assistance and resilience-building for vulnerable communities in Zimbabwe.
The Asian country, which is the third-largest economy in the world, has also provided nutrition support for pregnant women in maternity waiting homes.
In 2021, Japan contributed US$5.75 million through the WFP to support vulnerable, food insecure communities in Zimbabwe.

Japan Releases More Funds For Food Aid In Zimbabwe

The Mzingwane Old Boys Association (MOBA), a Trust formed by former Mzingwane High School students, on Thursday donated 105 desks and chair sets to their former school, located in Esigodini.
The donation brings to 220 the number of desks and chairs that have been donated by the MOBA since 2020.
The furniture was received by the headmaster Stanley Tizora, School Development Committee (SDC) Chair Comfort Mujekesa and several staff members.
Speaking during the handover of the furniture, an alumni member Qobolwakhe Mayisa, said:

The Mzingwane Old Boys Association ( MOBA) donated a further 105 desks and chair sets to Mzingwane High School in Esigodini.
It brings to 220 the desks and chairs donated by the old boys since it was registered as a Trust in 2020.
The desks and chairs project came about when some old boys visited the school and found it in a sorry state with classrooms full of broken unusable furniture.
In fact, most of the facilities we took pride in have become dilapidated or completely derelict.
The school, once a leading school in the country and the pride of Matabeleland South has seen standards fall so badly that it doesn’t even feature in top 100 school rankings for the country.
A desk and chair campaign was launched for Old Boys to buy a desk and chair set. The campaign was a roaring success marshalled by the incredibly talented and energetic team organising that included Chris Manguruve, Maxwell Masuku, Nkululeko Innocent Dube, former Mzingwane teacher Willard Dungeni and one of the most creative marketing chaps I have ever come across, one Aaron Chingombe among others.
In no time 120 sets had been delivered to the school by Christmas of 2020. The furniture was manufactured by a Bulawayo based company.
The delivery yesterday was the second large delivery and included books donated through South Africa based Dj Zwest.

Mayisa said the donation was the first project done by MOBA and more are being planned to transform the school into one of the best in Zimbabwe.
Tizora said the donation will help the school in providing enough furniture for learners and also ensure social distancing to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

School Receives Furniture Donation From Former Students

In an interview with The Chronicle yesterday, MDC Alliance spokesperson Professor Welshman Ncube confirmed that the Mr Nelson Chamisa-led coalition does not have money to sustain its election agents during the elections.
Ncube said the coalition had resorted to recruiting agents who will not need transport fares to cut costs.Said Ncube:
<blockquote>The issue of polling agents requires funding, a lot of money over two to three days. We will clearly need whatever support we can get. Some candidates are also able to support and sustain their agents. At the constituency and ward level we have people who have volunteered to cook for the polling agents, who will deliver food from the village. MDC-T deputy treasury general Mr Chalton Hwende appealed for funds yesterday through his Twitter account. Said Hwende:

Chamisa Appeals For Donations To Feed 45 000 Election Agents

First Lady Grace Mugabe reportedly donated used underwear and night dress at a Zanu-PF meeting in Mutare on Sunday. Zanu-PF legislator for Dangamvura Esau Mupfumi made the donation on the first lady’s behalf and told the members:
<blockquote>Recently, I visited the State House and I met the First Lady Grace Mugabe and I was given these clothes so that I can give you.
I have briefs for you and I am told that most of your briefs are not in good shape, please come and collect your allocations today. We have night dresses, sandals and clothes, come and take, this is from your First Lady Grace Mugabe</blockquote>
However, some people did not appreciate this gesture of apparent generosity saying they would rather be empowered to fend for themselves than to become charity cases. A man who spoke to Newsday said:
<blockquote>There are issues which need to be addressed rather than giving us briefs, we do not have jobs and why is she doing this.</blockquote>
