Popular Zimbabwean gospel artist Dorcas Moyo has won the Africa Best Female Gospel Artiste of the Year award at the CLIMA Africa Awards 2024 ceremony held in Abuja on Saturday.
This marks the first time a Zimbabwean musician has received this prestigious accolade.

In a phone interview with the <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/new-dorcas-moyo-scoops-top-african-gong/">Manica Post</a> from Nigeria, Moyo expressed her gratitude to her fans worldwide for their unwavering support. She said:

Dorcas Moyo Crowned Africa's Best Female Gospel Artist At CLIMA Africa Awards

Mutare-based award-winning gospel musician Dorcas Moyo has firmly denied the rumours of her engagement that have been circulating on social media.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/dorcas-moyo-dismisses-engagement-rumours/">The Herald</a>, Moyo explained that the rumours were sparked by a scene featured in her upcoming music video for the song “Ndinako Kutenda” from her album “Mvere Dzabvepi.”
Moyo revealed that since Wednesday, when she shared pictures of the video shoot on her official Facebook page, her phone has been inundated with calls inquiring about the supposed engagement.
However, the gospel artist clarified that the scene in question was merely part of the creative direction for the music video and had no connection to her personal life. Said Moyo:

I have been receiving calls from thousands of fans seeking clarity. Social media trolls are having a field day.
In this video, l was acting as a maid who had found a life partner. Lampy from Diamond FM was acting as the one proposing to me.
I am one of the people who have gone through a lot but I prefer some privacy on that matter. At the moment, I am concentrating on my musical career.

Moyo said her marital life remains a private matter. However, in one of her recent Facebook posts, the artist did reveal a personal detail about her family – the passing of her son’s father when the boy was still very young. She told The Herald:

Moyo rose to fame with her song “Haakotsire” on which she collaborated with Progress Sibanda.

Dorcas Moyo Dismisses Engagement Rumours

Award-winning Gospel musician <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Dorcas_Moyo">Dorcas Moyo</a> is set to launch her tenth album titled “Mvere Dzabvepi” in Mutare, this Saturday, 27 April 2024.
The album is a Christian production extracted from the book of Genesis 27 verses 21 to 27 and has 10 tracks including the title track Mvere Dzabvepi, Muroyi and Nhai Moses.
Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/life-amp-style/article/200022364/societal-immoralities-prompt-me-into-action-moyo">NewsDay</a> early this year, Moyo said problems that arise in people’s daily lives prompted her to use music as a tool to fight societal immoralities. She said:

Issues that vary from infidelity, ritual killings, immorality and drug abuse are a concoction that prompts me into action.
My desire to influence positive change among humanity and to multiply the population of heaven catapults me to go on preaching the gospel through music.
</blockquote>
She urged fellow artistes not to take fans or their followers for granted and to have respect for the art of other artistes.
Moyo revealed that her ascendency to stardom was not plain sailing as at one point, she was expelled from a worship team because she was deemed not good enough.
She said her success in the music industry was indeed a testimony to challenging stereotypes and barriers imposed against individuals. Said Moyo:

At one time I was ejected from the praise and worship team having been deemed a misfit. It ate me up as I was literally jettisoned from my passion. I find it difficult to forget the incident and it remains one of my top testimonies.

Dorcas Moyo Launches 10th Album, "Mvere Dzabvepi"

Gospel musician <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Dorcas_Moyo">Dorcas Moyo</a> won the Best Traditional Gospel Award at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) ceremony held in Harare last Saturday.
This is her second ZIMA award.
Moyo scooped the National Arts Merit (NAMA) Award in the Outstanding Female Musician category just four months ago.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/dorcas-moyo-bags-zima-gong/">The Manica Post</a> through her manager, Peter Madondo, Moyo thanked her fans for their support. She said:

Dorcas Moyo Scoops ZIMA Award

Mutare-based award-winning gospel musician <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Dorcas_Moyo">Dorcas Moyo</a> has bought school uniforms and paid fees for the whole year for her young “super fan” who is a learner at Matika Primary School in Mutare.
The young girl, Irene Chakonesa, whose age has not been revealed, praised Moyo in a written composition last year.
Moyo said she has been looking for the “little angel”, in reference to Irene, since last year and finally found her on Monday.
In a Facebook post, Moyo said her heart was “finally… at peace” after meeting her young fan.
She also expressed gratitude to the Matika Primary School headmistress one Mrs Mhandu for welcoming her to the school to interact with learners. Wrote Moyo:

Finally, my heart is at peace… Managed to trace the little angel who wrote her composition about A famous person she know and she wrote about Dorcas Moyo…Ndakamutsvaga and finally today ndamuwana (I found her) and managed to go to Matika Primary School here in Mutare,… Manicaland.

In her composition, Irene said Moyo’s songs are “very helpful, lovely, melodious, and teaches us to be Christians.”

The 42-year-old musician who is a nutritionist by profession has eight albums namely Ndinokutungamirira, Ndokusheedzai Jesu, Zvininipise, Ndibatsirei Mwari, Pamarah Tapfuura, Bvisai Marara, and Bvudzi Rangu Ramera, and Mhanza Haisekwe.
She also has more than 14 singles under her belt which include Wakabuda Sei, Anomira Nesu, Munyaradzi, Zvamakatirongera, Muri Mutsvene, among others.
Moyo won the 2022 best traditional gospel category at Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) ceremony.
She was also nominated for the National Arts Merit Award in the outstanding female musician category.
Moyo won the NAMA Outstanding Female Musician (2023).

Dorcas Moyo Buys School Uniforms And Pays Fees For Young "Super Fan"

Award-winning gospel musician Dorcas Moyo launched her latest album, “Mhanza Haisekwe” at Chancellor Junior School in Mutare on 11 March.
Hundreds of people, including other gospel musicians such as Michael Mahendere, Terrence Dzatsata, Hosiah Chipanga, Caroline Chidzikwe, Blessing Shumba, Vabati VaJehovah, Admire Nago and Joyful Praise, graced the event.
Award-winning South-African-based gospel musician, producer and instrumentalist, Takesure “Zamar” Ncube, also attended the launch.
Scores of bidders bought the album with different amounts ranging from US$10 to US$1 000. The highest bidder bought the album for US$2 000.
Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/dorcas-moyo-silences-critics-launches-album/">The Manica Post</a>, Moyo said she was overwhelmed by the support she received. She said:

The show was a huge success and we were overwhelmed by the immense support we got from the people of Mutare and beyond.
Hundreds braved the wet weather and that speaks volumes about the trust and sincerity of our followers.
However, we expected more and the weather somehow affected the numbers.
Every artiste brought their A game and that worked perfectly in giving the revellers an unforgettable encounter.
The people of Mutare are an unbelievable bunch. I will remain forever indebted to their loyalty and support.

The producer of the album, Olin Anderson of Kunashe Studios, based in Chikanga, Mutare, said:

Dorcas Moyo Launches New Album, Mhanza Haisekwe

Mutare-based award-winning gospel musician <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/dorcas-moyo-breaks-nama-curse/">Dorcas Moyo</a> has urged upcoming artistes to be resilient and ignore “battering” on social media for them to achieve their goals.
Last week, Moyo won the National Arts Merit Award (NAMA) Outstanding Female Musician after shrugging off competition from Feli Nandi Chipendo and Sandra Ndebele. It was her first NAMA award.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/dorcas-moyo-breaks-nama-curse/">The Manica Post</a>, Moyo said she did not lose hope when she failed to make it in the previous NAMA edition. She said:
<blockquote>
I am elated by the achievement and as I speak, I am overwhelmed with excitement. I am short of words to express my feelings, but let it be known that my heart is overflowing with joy.
I cannot single out any individual, but an array of factors meticulously crafted this success. Foremost, all glory goes to the Almighty who has seen us through thick and thin.
My management has been amazing in giving direction and vision, the band members have been relentless in their efforts to achieve perfection and equally the fans have been unbelievable in their support; they encourage us day and night.
Challenges are awash in the music industry and these range from stereotypes to insincerity from some promoters.
Social media battering and abuse have also emerged as an energy-draining forte if you are not careful.
The competition is stiff and one has to be resilient if one dreams of reaping meaningful rewards.
We attended the previous edition and walked away empty-handed and this time around we even contemplated not attending as we thought we could just be making the numbers.
It indeed came as a pleasant surprise, however, we knew within ourselves that even if we missed out on the gong, we have done enough to impact lives with our music.

The mother-of-six said she does not consider herself a star yet but the journey to where she is now has been difficult. She said:

The road to where we are now has been quite rough and arduous. I am not sure whether I qualify to be classified as a star yet, but I toil every day to have a better version of myself.
Music journeys can be gruesome, but what is important is to continue making the kid steps towards the goal.
I am happy that as I look back, I see quite a substantial distance that I have covered, but still, there is another long and winding road ahead that I need to traverse.
Patience, originality and endurance will mould any upcoming artiste. It is a rarity for one to be recognised in a short space of time.
It may need one try after another. Hard work bears fruit. Keep focused on producing your work instead of wasting your energy in pricking and devouring each other.

Patience, Originality And Endurance Key For Upcoming Musicians, Says Dorcas Moyo

Award-winning gospel musician <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dorcas_Moyo">Dorcas Moyo</a> is set to launch a new album, titled “Mhanza Haisekwe” on 11 March 2023.
The album launch will take place at Chancellor Junior School in Mutare and will be graced by several local musicians who include Michael Mahendere, Blessing Shumba, Tinashe Marigo, and the group Joyful Praise.
The Mutare-based singer has slowly gained popularity with her music from the time she released her debut album “Ndokusheevedzai Ishe” in 2006.
Her most recent album, “Bvudzi Rangu Ramera,” was launched in April last year.
Moyo’s message of God’s grace seems to be appealing to many people given her rising popularity.
Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/dorcas-moyo-popularity-rises/">H-Metro</a> several months ago, Moyo said she started singing as a hobby. She said:

Dorcas Moyo Set To Launch New Album On 11 March

Award-winning gospel musician <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Fungisai_Zvakavapano">Fungisai Zvakavapano Mashavave</a> says she regrets every decision she made to be a musician.
Posting on her Facebook page this Friday, Fungisai, who rose to fame in the year 2000 when she recorded her first album under Elias Musakwa’s stable, said musicians are “downtrodden”.
Fungisai said she envies those who decided to become doctors, teachers, or nurses, adding she wishes she could start her life all over again. She wrote:

Fungisai Says She Regrets Becoming A Musician

The Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe will hold the Greater Harare Conference this weekend from Friday to Sunday.
Greater Harare is made up of AFM In Zimbabwe congregants from Harare, Chitungwiza and Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland West provinces.
Several top gospel artists, among them Mathias Mhere, Dorcas Moyo, Jonah Chivasa, Joyful Praise and the National Praise team, will perform at the event which will be held at Glamis Arena at the Exhibition Park.
AFM in Zimbabwe president Amon Madawo told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/top-gospel-acts-for-afm-conference/">The Herald</a> that the main aim of the conference is to bring healing and revival to the members of the church. He said:

We have so far held Greater Manicaland, Greater Chivhu and Greater Bulawayo conferences.
March 2023 will see us holding Greater Midlands for all the congregants from Gokwe and surrounding areas and Midlands province at large.
The main thrust of these conferences is to bring part and parcel of healing and revival to the members of the AFM.
In addition, preparing the members and refocusing the church on her mission and mandate will be key.

The theme of the conference, “Impacting the World Through the Gospel of the Kingdom” which was derived from Matthew 24 verses 11-14 and Acts 1:8.

Dorcas Moyo To Perform At AFM Greater Harare Conference

Mutare-based gospel artiste Dorcas Moyo says she is humbled by being considered one of the most popular gospel singers in Zimbabwe by music lovers.
In most discussions about music on social media, Moyo’s name is mentioned quite often especially following the release of her latest album “Bvudzi Rangu Ramera”.
Speaking during an interview with H-Metro, Moyo said that with being popular, the greatest challenge is to remain humble. She said:

First and foremost, I am humbled by being regarded among the most popular and I thank God for taking me this far.
I am only a human being and that at times weighs heavily on me.
I know that comes with being popular but the greatest challenge and biggest objective is to remain humble and also enhance my position and status.

Moyo said she started singing as a hobby and had not planned to take up music as a career. She said:

Honestly speaking, I was just a person keen on ministering to the Lord.
Recording one or two songs was enough for me but God had other plans.
Not a single day in my lifetime did I ever think about it.
Prayer, perseverance, consistence and practice are key.
Coupled with a group of people around me, who give advice, and pray with me.
Needless to mention my supporting group, The Heavenly Melodies.

Moyo is set to perform in the UK in October for the first time. She has three shows lined up in the British Isles. Moyo said:

We are excited about the United Kingdom tour that is pencilled for the month of October.
It is our inaugural UK tour and we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring total satisfaction to our supporters who have been crying out for us.
I am elated and curious at the same time for I am setting foot on unfamiliar territory.
I am extending my invitation to all across the UK to make efforts to come and meet us during this tour.

Dorcas Moyo has released eight albums to date. These are Ndokusheedzai Jesu (2006), Ndinokutungamirira (2009), Zvininipise (2018), Ndibatsirei Mwari (2019), Pamara Tapfuura (2020), Bvisai Marara (2021), Bvudzi Rangu Ramera (2022) and singles collections.
She records at Kunashe Studios and Olin Anderson is her producer.

Dorcas Moyo Set For United Kingdom Tour

Mutare-based gospel musician, Dorcas Moyo, said that the internet has benefited artistes in many ways than one in spite of some of the adverse effects it has brought.
Moyo, who rose to fame through her hit song “Haakotsire”, said the internet has helped musicians market their music and also opened a new revenue stream as some internet sites pay royalties. Said Moyo:

Personally, I have no qualms with the impact that the internet has had, not only on my music but on a host of all other artists.
Music is now accessible from anywhere across the globe.
The fact that most internet sites are paying out royalties is icing on the cake.
I, however, do not take the adverse effects that it has brought to artists lightly, as well.
The availability of a plethora of internet sites that have music has also fuelled the cancer of piracy that has elbowed an avalanche of artists out of the industry.
By and large, if properly managed and utilised, the internet can be a game-changer for talented artists.
