Thulani Ncube, a 42-year-old shop owner at Nyimo Business Centre, appeared before the Kadoma Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, facing two counts of murder.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the charges stem from a tragic incident that occurred on January 16, 2025, at the Nyimo Business Centre.
Ncube is accused of shooting and killing his wife, Nyengeterayi Chakauya (42), and her cousin, Canaan Shumba (32), following a heated confrontation over drinking beer at Ncube’s house.
The NPA alleges that Ncube first shot and killed Shumba on the spot. He then reportedly chased after Nyengeterayi and fatally shot her behind their cottage before fleeing the scene.
Ncube was later apprehended on a bus at Kadoma’s Waverly terminus, where a pistol was recovered from his satchel.
The accused shop owner will return to court on February 4 for a routine remand hearing.

Sanyati Businessman Allegedly Kills Wife And Cousin Over Infidelity

Police have arrested a 53-year-old man from Masvingo and his three daughters for the alleged murder of his father and mother, accusing them of practising witchcraft and bringing misfortune upon the family.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the incident occurred on October 11, 2024, around 7 AM in Chorupanga Village, Nyajena, Masvingo.
The victims were identified as Rameck Chidinhika’s father, Tizirai Chidinhika (77), and mother, Miriam Polisiri (92).
The suspects, Rameck Chidinhika and his three daughters – Constancia Chidinhika (28), Vimbai Chidinhika (19), and a 15-year-old juvenile – have been arrested in connection with the alleged murders.
In a separate case, the police are appealing for information to assist in the investigation of a murder in which Jabson Bunukwa Kwangwari (35) was found dead on October 11, 2024, in Village 1 Runhare, Chiredzi.
The victim’s body was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition, with deep cuts on the head and arm. A blood-stained axe was recovered from the scene. Said Commissioner Nyathi:

Masvingo Couple Murdered By Son And Grandchildren Amid Witchcraft Accusations

Ezekiel Chibvongodze, a man from Nyameni suburb, Marondera, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife Evelyn Mitchel Katakwe (26) and their son Tawanda (6) in cold blood on Sunday night.
A tenant living in the same house, Egenia Bhainai, provided a harrowing account of the events leading up to the deaths.
Bhainai told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/man-kills-wife-son-in-cold-blood/">The Herald</a> that she heard Evelyn crying out for help, saying she was being stabbed and was dying. She said:

I was in my room when I heard the woman crying out for help. Aichema achiti ndiri kubaiwa nebanga, ndava kufa ndibatsireiwo (I am being stabbed, help me I am dying).
I rushed to their bedroom door and tried to open it but failed as it was locked from inside. I started banging on the door and shouting but no one opened it. The woman continued crying helplessly.
Later on, I heard someone unlock the door and I ran to my bedroom and locked myself inside. I was afraid that the man would also attack me.

Later, Bhainai saw Evelyn stagger out of the room, bleeding and crying. Ezekiel then rushed out through a different door.
She said she then went out to get help from neighbours and when she came back, she could not find Evelyn where she had left her. Said Bhainai:
When I entered their dining room, I saw their son lying on the floor with a knife stuck in his back.
She said she screamed to alert more people and when she went outside to search for the stabbed woman, she then found her lying about 30 metres from the house “breathing faintly”. She said:

Marondera Man Kills Wife, Son (6) In Cold Blood

The proprietor of Bensam Flats in Gweru CBD — where a local businessman Peter Dube allegedly shot four people, killing two of them instantly last Friday — has kicked out the victims’ families.
Dube (35), a car dealer, has been in hiding since he allegedly shot and killed his second wife’s alleged lover, Shelton Chinhango, also a car dealer based in Kwekwe and Gamuchirai Mudungwe (30) of Gweru.
He also allegedly shot and injured his second wife, Nyasha Nharingo (31) and her sister Nyaradzo (34).
One of the tenants at the flats told Chronicle on condition of anonymity that the landlord visited the premises on Sunday night and ordered Nyasha and her family to move out. Said the tenant:
<blockquote>The landlord came last night and ordered Nyasha’s family out. He was in a no-nonsense mood. Nyasha, remember was planning to vacate the flat which Peter Dube was renting for her. We don’t know where they went but it was bad.</blockquote>
Nyasha is admitted to Gweru Provincial Hospital where her condition is said to be stable as she is out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is recuperating in a female surgical ward.
Her sister was supposed to be operated on last night to remove a bullet lodged in her head.

Gweru Shooting Victims Evicted From Flat By 'No-nonsense' Landlord

The sister-in-law of a polygamous Gweru businessman, Peter Dube (35), who brutally shot four people last Friday, two of them fatally, said she escaped death by a whisker after he attempted to shoot his five-year-old son.
Tadiwanashe Nharingo (16) said Dube only turned the gun off his son Nyasha Brendon Dube (5) to shoot at his wife’s best friend Gamuchirai Mudungwe after she wailed and intervened, trying to stop him from shooting the child.
Tadiwanashe said she held the boy tightly on her lap and against her chest on a car seat as Dube pointed the gun at them and later escaped with the child when the killer sets his sights on Gamuchirai. She said:
<blockquote>As he pointed the gun at his son and obviously me because the boy was on my lap, my sister’s friend, Gamuchirai, shouted and screamed at him asking why he wanted to kill his own son and me, and that is when he turned the gun on Gamuchiraai and shot her.
Thereafter, he pursued my sisters, Nyasha and Nyaradzo inside the flat while I ran away with the boy. I then heard two gunshots inside the flat and I knew my sisters had been shot at.
I became the second target, but by God’s grace, I survived together with the boy. Surely the boy was his second target and maybe myself because I was the one holding the boy.</blockquote>
Dube’s wife Nyasha Nharingo and her young sister Nyaradzo are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Gweru Central Hospital after sustaining life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The suspected boyfriend Shelton Chinhango and Gamuchirai (30) died on the spot after being shot in the head and chest, respectively.
According to The Herald, Nyaradzo was still in critical condition in the ICU where she is set to be operated on to remove the bullet lodged in her skull.
The two injured women’s father, Bothwell Nharingo said Nyasha is out of danger and is now admitted to the female surgical ward.
Nharingo also revealed that after committing the gruesome double-murder, Dube phoned and told him about the incident. He said:
<blockquote>My son-in-law called me in the middle of the night and said ‘come to Bensam Flats and see what has happened.’ He did not explain so I panicked and drove to the scene.
Police were already there. My two daughters were writhing in pain with the bullets in their bodies.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Acting Midlands provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende on Sunday said police were still looking for Dube who dumped his silver Honda Fit car at the scene and disappeared.

Police have arrested Denforn Nyamande (35) in connection with the double murder of Angella Bhunu (89) and Felix Taonana Chiodza (87).
He was found at his hideout at Mutsvairo Village under Chief Seke where he had sought refuge following the gruesome murders.
The bodies of Bhunu, of Chidziva Village, and Chiodza of Marumisa Village under Chief Mangwende, Murewa were found in different places with deep cuts all over their bodies.
Nyamande, who is Bhunu’s son, is suspected to have murdered the two elderly siblings after accusing the two of practising witchcraft.
An axe was found beside Bhunu’s body, while a hoe was found next to that of Chiodza. Police said in a statement:

Murewa Man Who Killed His Mother And Uncle Arrested In Seke

Police in Murewa have launched a manhunt for Denford Nyamande (35), who is suspected of being behind the double murder of Angella Bhunu (89) and Felix Taonana Chiodza (87).

Mashonaland East Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the development. He said:
<blockquote>The deceased were brother and sister and were staying at different homesteads and in different villages, while the suspect is one of the deceased’s son.
It is alleged that sometime back and on an unknown date, the suspect and his brother Daniel Nyamande had a misunderstanding with the two now-deceased persons accusing them of practising witchcraft.
The suspect reportedly went on to threaten the two deceased with death and sometime in January 2021, the issue was resolved by the village head of Marumisa Village.</blockquote>
Insp Mwanza added that Bhunu’s dead body was discovered on 22 March at her homestead by her daughter-in-law who had visited her to give her food at around 5 PM.
When one of Takaodza’s relatives went to his homestead to inform him about her sister death around 7 PM on the same day, he discovered his body lying with bloodstains on his shirt and floor.
Insp Mwanza urged people to respect the sanctity of life.
The bodies are at Murewa mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
