Former Manicaland Provincial Governor and Deputy Minister of Industry and International Trade, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kenneth_Vhundukai_Manyonda">Kenneth Vhundukai Manyonda</a>, has been declared a national hero.
The development was confirmed by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Misheck_Sibanda">Misheck Sibanda</a>, in a statement released Friday. 
He said details of the funeral will be announced later once consultations between the Government and his family are concluded. Read the statement:

His Excellency the President Dr E.D. Mnangagwa has declared the late one-time Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce and Governor of Manicaland Province under the First Republic, Cde Kenneth Manyonda, a National Hero.
The conferment of National Hero status on the late departed followed consultations of, and consensus by the (Zanu PF) Politburo.
</blockquote>
Manyonda, who was aged 88, died in Harare on Wednesday after a long illness.
The ZANU PF leadership in Manicaland Province had earlier applied to the national leadership to confer national hero status on the former provincial governor.
ZANU PF Acting Secretary for Administration, who is also Secretary for Finance and Economic Development, Patrick Chinamasa confirmed that the party leadership received a request from Manicaland Province to accord Manyonda National Hero status. 
In his condolence message on Thursday, President Mnangagwa described Manyonda as a veteran nationalist who cut his teeth in trade unionism during the colonial era.
The President said Manyonda was committed to supporting the liberation struggle until independence.

Former Deputy Minister Manyonda Accorded National Hero Status

Former Vice President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Phelekezela_Mphoko">Phelekezela Mphoko</a>‘s daughter said the government is disrespecting her father because they don’t want to give him his benefits Newsday reports. Siduduzile even went on to say they were disrespecting Mphoko because of his tribe.
Siduduzile wrote this on her Facebook wall, after the government dismissed the former VP’s USD benefits and pension claims. Siduduzile said:
<blockquote>I just read an article by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Misheck_Sibanda">Misheck Sibanda</a> about my father’s pension and besides the fact that they want to deny him what is rightfully his, in the article, he addresses my dad as Mr Mphoko
I have been asking myself why the disrespect, then I realised that addressing him as former VP Mphoko opens a can of worms because the title is stamped within the Constitution, making him entitled to his benefits. So, let’s act like he wasn’t a VP and let’s not address him as one so that we can take what is rightfully his.
How can someone who has dedicated more than half his life to serving his country be told he is not worthy. He was appointed by a legitimate Head of State, the late (former President) Robert Mugabe (unless you don’t recognise him either) and it is also documented on every official assignment he participated in locally and internationally that he was representing his country as the VP.

A senior govt official Mr Francis Sonny Mapingire has died, The Herald reports. Mr Mapingire (57) was the Head of Cabinet Secretariat in the Office of the President and Cabinet and he succumbed to colon cancer at a private hospital in Harare on Christmas Day.
In condolence message OPC Chief secretary Dr <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Misheck_Sibanda">Misheck Sibanda</a> said:
<blockquote>It is with a deep sense of loss and sorrow at the untimely loss of a pillar of your family after a short illness. We had hoped that he was going to recover soon and join us back at work, but it was not so. His loss is not only to you but to all of us in the Office of the President and Cabinet and indeed the nation,” he said.
We will all continue to cherish his contribution in the area of the Cabinet administration and indeed in other critical areas. May his family be comforted that he played his part in this whole process</blockquote>

OPC Head of Cabinet Secretariat Mapingire Dies

The cause of former President Mugabe has been revealed by The Sunday News. According to the publication, Mugabe died of prostate cancer. According to a source who spoke to the publication only the former president’s family was aware of the cause of the late leader’s death. This, in turn, fed speculations, conjectures and theories surrounding his death. However, a source has put all the speculations to rest by disclosing that Mugabe died of advanced prostate cancer:
<blockquote>The President’s death has been subject to speculation since he passed away, but I can authoritatively reveal that he died from prostate cancer. The cause of death had not been known to many people except his close family members</blockquote>
Mugabe had been travelling to Singapore for checkups until at some point his physicians decided to keep him for observation. Dr Misheck Sibanda and team were at one point in August sent by the president to check up on him Sunday News reports.
