<p>The leader of the Alliance for the People’s Agenda (APA) and former cabinet minister Nkosana Moyo has said that Zimbabwe’s economic problems will not get fixed until the country gets a president who prioritises economics over politics. Moyo also said the president needs to have experience in business in order to solve the economic problems. Said Moyo,</p>
<blockquote><p>Generally speaking, saying I told you so is not a good thing, but I would like to use this event as a reminder of something we really need to understand. Minister Bernard Chidzero was a good and competent man. But as we all know, his political masters had no capacity to understand hence no commitment to implement what needed to be done. Another example I witnessed was Chinamasa when he was working in his area of competence. As minister for legal and parliamentary affairs he tried to be professional and do the right thing even towards MDC, but his masters only understood a political agenda. I mention these two cases to make Zimbabweans understand that until we have a head of state whose agenda is not politics first and economics a poor second and also has first-hand competence in business, we are unlikely to sort out our economic challenges.</p>

<p>The former minister was also highly critical of Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mangudya’s midterm monetary policy. He alleged that the governor is trying to fool people by insisting that the Bond Note is equal to the United States Dollar even after he had ordered banks to separate Nostro FCAs and RTGS FCAs. Said Moyo,</p>
<blockquote><p>When the bond note was contemplated, we told the Governor that it was a very bad idea. I am sure now he knows he erred, but will not admit it. The idea of clearly demarcated accounts as dollar or bond is an obvious one. What that more clearly accepts is that the bond note and the dollar are not the same. Yet our dear Governor continues to try and pull wool over our eyes. He is separating the accounts because he knows they are not the same yet in the same breath he goes on to claim a 1:1 relationship! This would pass for comedy were it not about our lives.</p>
<p>More importantly, however, is that the separation of accounts would, in a world with good governance, allow for better management of real dollar inflows. In our world, however, where power, nepotism, cronyism and patronage rule, it is an exercise in futility. The connected, who did not bring a single dollar into the country will still get access to USDs and abuse them as they have always done. They have access to their Bond Notes which they use to convert a piece of valueless paper to real money. The Governor should know by now that he will not be able to stop them. The question then is why is he doing this?</p>
<p>The most incomprehensible action is the statutory reserves element of the monetary policy statement. We all know that the mistrust between the Government and Central Bank on the one hand and the citizens on the other has led to the disintermediation of banks by and large. Any liquidity in the economy is not being channelled through the banks. It is in the streets of Zimbabwe. The Governor is going to impose a 5% statutory reserve to mop up liquidity! By definition, this is statutory reserve applies to banks. I need someone much smarter than me to help me understand this one. My own opinion is that this is the governor’s equivalent to the Minister’s 2% transaction tax. Just as former Governor Gideon Gono raided FCAs, the incumbent Mangudya is raiding deposits to fund government spending. Sad that both men have from the get go started by trying to hoodwink the citizenry.</p></blockquote>

"We Are All In The Dung" Until We Get A Competent President With The Right Priorities - Nkosana Moyo

<p>Former cabinet minister and 2018 presidential candidate, Dr . Nkosana Moyo has warned President Robert Mugabe that people will find alternative methods of confronting him if voting does not work. The leader of the Alliance of People’s Agenda said:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>The economic circumstances in the country dictate that Zimbabweans are unhappy because they are living under very difficult conditions, except for a few thousand people connected to the top. People carrying a Zanu PF card will vote against that party because they are not an exception.</em></p>
<p><em>It is obvious that those in power have created a social time-bomb and if elections do not work, then they will find another way. Ian Smith (Rhodesian Prime Minister) did not give us the vote, but it did not stop them rebelling. Zimbabweans will find a way. You cannot ill-treat people forever. It has never worked and will never work.</em></p></blockquote>

If elections do not work, Zimbabweans will find a way of confronting Mugabe: Nkosana Moyo

<p>Addressing party structures in Bulawayo yesterday, <span>Alliance for the People’s Agenda president Dr Nkosana Moyo criticised the coalition and said that the electorate can choose who they want to lead them. </span></p>
<p>Said Moyo:</p>
<blockquote><p><span>Others are coming saying are we not splitting the vote, form an alliance with Morgan (Tsvangirai MDC-T president) and so on and so on. </span>When you chose your boyfriend, did you say other guys who were pursuing you should eliminate themselves? They didn’t, but you chose one, right. So, the issue of saying coalition, as if Zimbabweans are not smart enough to choose, I think is an insult to all of us, it’s an insult. Because we are implying that we shouldn’t have a choice, that choice should be eliminated up front so that when we go to vote there is only one person remaining. So, a coalition is a completely misguided argument, I believe even my uneducated mother can choose from the choices available the president who can move us from the prevailing problem. My mother knows that, so we don’t need a coalition for that.</p></blockquote>

Nkosana Moyo criticises coalition, says it is misguided and an insult

<p><span>Alliance for People’s Agenda (APA) leader Nkosana Moyo said that he is open to forming an alliance with MDC-T Vice President Thokozani Khupe amid reports that she wants to break away from the Morgan Tsvangirai led party following her attack by party youth leader. When asked by NewZimbabwe.com Moyo said:</span></p>
<blockquote><p><strong></strong>We would listen to what they, like any other Zimbabwean, have to say.</p></blockquote>
<p>A source who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com alleged that Khupe and Moyo met in R<span>osebank, Johannesburg in </span>South Africa on Thursday even though Moyo denies this. <span>Asked whether he had, during the course of the week, met with Khupe or any of her lieutenants, Moyo told NewZimbabwe.com:</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span>I am not going to tell you who I met or did not meet. Take it from me, your information is wrong. If you are determined to make a story, go on and embarrass yourself.</span></p></blockquote>

Nkosana Moyo open to forming alliance with Khupe amid reports of MDC-T break up

<p>2018 presidential candidate and former cabinet minister Dr Nkosana Moyo has reiterated that he believes that Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa will run the country differently from President Robert Mugabe. However, her was quick to emphasise that this did not mean that he was endorsing Mnangagwa. Speaking in Bulawayo yesterday, Moyo said:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>I know Mnangagwa. I know he will run Zimbabwe differently (from Mugabe), but I did not mean to say I endorse him. I do not believe in the politics of trashing others. If you ask me about Morgan Tsvangirai, I will also tell you my opinion about him.</em></p>
<p><em>I will not engage in the politics of trying to rubbish others. I respect Mnangagwa. He is a Zimbabwean and factually he will run Zimbabwe differently. That is a statement of fact,</em></p></blockquote>
<p>This is the second time that Dr Moyo has shared this view, having done so in an interview with online publication ZimEye.</p>

<p>In case you missed,  2018 Presidential Candidate, Dr Nkosana Moyo’s interview with Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa on Wednesday, here are just 10 of some of the things we learned.</p>
<h2>1. Why he is running</h2>
<p>Dr Nkosana Moyo said that his decision to run for President was in response to calls  from many people to come and serve his country.  He said that for the past 3 months, people have been asking him to come and play his part.  He added that he was not the only person that people had asked to come and lead them.    Econet founder Strive Masisyiwa had also received the same call.</p>
<h2>2. Why launch at Meikles</h2>
<p>Dr Moyo said that he would have preferred to launch his party in Highfield where he would have been more accessible and had actually planned on using Jennings Hall in Highfield but he knew that the Zimbabwe Republic Police was not going to grant him permission to do so.  He added that security agents from the Central Intelligence Organisation had gone around intimidating people beforehand.</p>
<h2>3.  State Institutions</h2>
<p>Dr Moyo said that the Central Intelligence Organisation, the army, the police and the judiciary were supposed to be institutions of the Zimbabwean State, but were now acting as appendages of Zanu-PF.  He said that if elected he would make sure that they act as state institutions and actually serve the interests of all Zimbabweans,  saying that the leader of the country is the one who determines the culture of those institutions.</p>
<h2>4. National Cohesion</h2>
<p>He said that he was going to prioritise unifying all the citizens and building cohesion saying that for any country to succeed the people need to feel that they are one nation. This can only be achieved through servant leadership which works for the benefit of the people. He added that to run a successful country, everyone should be able to compete regardless of age.</p>

<h2>5. Role of Government</h2>
<p>Dr Moyo said that the main role of government was to create a robust and growing economy.  The government should only create a good business environment but should never be both a player and a regulator in the business sector.</p>

<h2>6. Forming party with Shingi Munyeza, Evan Mawarire, Trevor Ncube</h2>
<p>Dr Moyo dismissed all claims that he had been secretly working with Shingi Munyeza, Pastor Evan Mawarire and Trevor Ncube to launch a new political party.  He said all that the information on this issue was false although he did admit that he was willing to work with any Zimbabwean</p>

<h2>7.  People not registering to vote or not voting</h2>
<p>Dr Moyo disputed that Zimbabweans had voter apathy and did not believe in the electoral process. According to him people want to vote but have refrained from doing so because they were not satisfied with the options that were available to them.  He added that he believes that Zimbabweans would go out to vote if there was a candidate who addressed their issues.</p>

<h2>8. Endorsing Mnangagwa</h2>
<p>Moyo denied that he had ever endorsed Vice President Mnangagwa to succeed President Robert Mugabe in an interview with online publication Zimeye.   He said that he had only responded to a question on whether Mnangagwa would do things differently from President Mugabe.  However, he emphasised that he had never said give Mnangagwa a chance.</p>

<h2>9. Land Redistribution</h2>
<p>Dr Moyo said that land redistribution should promote productivity by giving the farmers title to the land.  That way they can access capital and be more productive.</p>

<h2>10.  Command Agriculture</h2>
<p>Dr Moyo said that he did not support Command Agriculture because of the government’s involvement.  He said that the government should only be involved in farming through Agricultural Extension services. He added that the private sector could support farmers without the input of government.</p>
<h2>11. Gukurahundi and Unification</h2>
<p>Dr Moyo did not address the issue of Gukurahundi expressly.  However, he pointed to his own background saying that he has a Ndebele mother, a Karanga father and a  Manyika wife and because of this he identified himself with all of Zimbabwe. He said one of the first ways of unifying the country was to choose a cabinet with gender,  racial and tribal balance which people would see and not merely be told of.</p>
<h2>12. Cabinet</h2>
<p>According to Dr Moyo, the current cabinet is bloated and if elected his cabinet would have a maximum of 20, with no deputy ministers. The deputy ministers would be replaced by junior ministers who will all be young people who also sit in cabinet.</p>
