Former ZANU PF deputy youth secretary, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lewis_Matutu">Lewis Matutu</a> has called for the death sentence on those convicted of corruption.
Matutu, alongside former ZANU PF Youth League Political Commissar, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Godfrey_Tsenengamu">Godfrey Tsenengamu</a>, previously led an anti-corruption fight against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s associate <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kudakwashe_Tagwirei">Kudakwashe Tagwirei</a> and other senior government officials.
The campaign resulted in their suspension and sanction by the party’s leadership which accused them of violating the party’s code of conduct.
Matutu was quiet since the campaign which saw him being sent to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hebert_Chitepo_School_of_Ideology">Herbert Chitepo School of ideology</a> and Tsenengamu’s dismissal after refusing to go to the institution.
Sharing on Twitter, Matutu proposed Zimbabwe adopts the Chinese approach to dealing with corruption.
<blockquote>
Zimbabwe should adopt the Chinese approach on the fight against corruption offenders with cases that exceed $500 000 should be executed by firing squad with the rest being given harsh sentences #saynotocorruption.
</blockquote>
Some of the responses to his post said it was difficult to enforce such laws if government institutions and officials are also implicated in corruption.
Matutu responded saying no one was above the law, “in theory and practice” in Zimbabwe. He also dismissed the view that only members of the ruling ZANU PF were corrupt saying the rot was everywhere hence the need for concerted efforts to ensure a corrupt-free Zimbabwe.
The southern African country has over the years been ranked among the countries with the highest rates of corruption amid reports that billions of dollars are being lost yearly through underhand dealings.

Former Health and Child Care minister Dr Obadiah Moyo has been indicted to the High Court for trial on criminal abuse of office charges.
Prosecutor Garudzo Ziyadhuma told the court that Moyo’s trial will kick off on September 6. Ziyadhuma said:

The State alleges that Moyo influenced the awarding of a US$60 million tender to Drax International, which is headquartered in the United Arab Emirates.
The tender was concluded without the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe’s approval.
Moyo allegedly influenced the awarding of the tender to Drax International, which sold COVID-19 drugs and personal protective equipment to the government at inflated prices.
President Emerson Mnangagwa fired Moyo last year over the charges.

Ex-Health Minister Obadiah Moyo Indicted To High Court

The government has said it will start to name people who escape from quarantine in a bid to stop returnees from escaping quarantine and putting other people’s lives at risk, 3 MOB reports.
This was said by the Minister Of Health and Child Care Obadiah Moyo as he was briefing the media in a post-cabinet briefing today. The decision to name and shame escapees came after close to 200 returnees escaped from quarantine facilities countrywide. Doctors on another note have said the<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/06/02/full-text-zim-doctors-haul-govt-to-court-over-deplorable-conditions-at-quarantine-isolation-centers/"> living conditions in some of the quarantine and isolation centres is deplorable as they took the government to court</a> in a bid to compel it to improve the conditions in question.
The government has urged citizens to report border jumpers who evade quarantine and people who escape from quarantine to try and curb the spread of COVID-19.

The President at his Munhumutapa offices today met 2 delegates Rotary International and the Lutheran World Federation, The Herald reports.
According to the publication, the delegates briefed the president about their presence in the country:

The Minister of Health and Child Care <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Obadiah_Moyo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Obadiah Moyo</a> has instructed the Health Service Board (HSB) to give first preference to volunteer nurses offering healthcare services in emergency and medical departments at public health institutions.
Moyo issued the directive while addressing these nurses under the banner of Zimbabwe Young Nurses Association (ZYNA). He said:
<blockquote>Treasury through Cabinet gave us 700 posts so I have instructed HSB to give priority nurses as these when they apply for jobs.</blockquote>
ZYNA president Tafadzwa Jackson said that the union has deployed 15 nurses at Parirenyatwa and another 15 at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Harare_Central_Hospital" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Harare Central Hospital</a> during the festive season when there is a high demand for emergency medical services.
ZYNA recently rejected accusations that it is a government-sponsored union established to divide nurses.

Govt To Give Preference To Nurses Under The ZYNA Banner

The Health Minister <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/2019/12/nursing-is-a-calling-not-a-job-minister/">Obadiah Moyo</a> while speaking at the graduation of 204 nurses and midwives at Howard Mission yesterday, said they needed to meet the current health sector crisis with Jesus ‘s name. Moyo also told nurses that nursing was a calling and not a job.
Moyo said;
<blockquote>There is a scarcity of human and material resources within the profession and this is compounded by natural disasters, traffic accidents and poverty among our people. This complicates the role of the nurse as she or he has to perform no matter how difficult the situation is because illness is always there.
What do we do under such circumstances? The answer is meet these challenges with Jesus’ name without discrimination, this is my appeal to you today.
Nursing is not a job, but a calling; there are trials and tribulations in carrying out your duties, but you need to persevere to get the trust of the people and let me warm you against corruption. It will ruin a lot, not just yourselves, but society</blockquote>
This comes at a time where service at public hospitals has become somewhat none existant with doctors and some nurses on strike citing incapacitation.

Lets Meet The Health Sectors Crisis With Jesus' Name - Health Minister

The government of Zimbabwe has signed a $200 million deal with a UK based company The Chronicle reports. Speaking at the MOU signing ceremony  between Zimbabwe and the UK based company, the President said:
<blockquote>It is the first private investment from the UK for over two decades, so this is a result of our re-engagement policy.</blockquote>
The fund will assist mainly rural clinics and hospitals get primary healthcare to assist patients. NMS Infrastructure will build 3 hospitals with 120 beds for Zimbabwe. The UK Based company will also re-equip other local health facilities. The Health and Child welfare minister said:
<blockquote>In as far as what is actually going to happen, this is very much in line with our primary healthcare approach because we are going to get at least 30 rural clinics, rural centres, rural hospitals. So there will be about four in each province
We have got a shortage of equipment for quite a long time and so this will rejuvenate the healthcare service of Zimbabwe</blockquote>
NMS Infrastructure will start work next week according to a government official.

Government Secures A US$200 Million Healthcare Deal - Report

The 32nd Cabinet meeting that was held in Harare on Tuesday directed the ministers of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo, and Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube to urgently address the issue to do with the doctors’ industrial action.
The Health Minister had briefed Cabinet that doctors had already been awarded a cost of living adjustment of 60%.
The order comes when doctors have downed tools citing incapacitation as their salaries continue to be eroded by the soaring inflation and the shedding of the local currency.
Doctors also demand that the government improves their working conditions saying that the current working conditions constantly put their lives in danger.
Prices of basic commodities including transport, school fees, bread, fuel, medicines and mealie-meal have all been reviewed up recently when workers salaries remained stagnant.

The Herald (PC) conducted an interview with Health Minister, Dr. Obadiah Moyo (Dr. Moyo) to understand the recently announced intended massive rehabilitation programme of public health institutions.
<blockquote>PC: What do you seek to achieve with these Joint Venture Partnerships?  
Dr Moyo: We want to make sure that the health facility is of very high quality, providing first-class services. We want to make sure that our customers are accessing affordable services within easy reach, making sure that all the facilities are well rehabilitated. Our facilities have sat for a long time without any major rehabilitation. At the same time, we need to replenish all the institutions with medicines so that it makes sense. We want to make sure that our facilities are not death-traps, they are hygienic and that they are clean facilities.
However, for us to be able to tackle all these problems as a Government and on our own, we cannot be able to fulfil it that’s why you hear the “Zimbabwe is open for business” mantra and it also includes the health industry. We want investors in the health industry to come and provide services, to come and invest and be able to institute higher levels of management in terms of patient care in our institutions. We want to be able to come up with super specialist hospitals and ensure that we do not send people out of Zimbabwe for specialist treatments but that everything is done locally, here in Zimbabwe.
We have to look for partners who have the capability- the financial capability and the general know-how and can be able to impart medical knowledge to our people.
So it’s not just a matter of partners for the sake of partners, its partners who have the capability to train our people who can be able to set up all the relevant high-quality care parameters within our institutions.</blockquote>

"We Want Super Specialist Hospitals, Treatment Must Be Done Locally" - Health Minister

Health and Child Care Minister Dr. Obadiah Moyo has revealed that the government is making inroads towards establishing the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Dr. Moyo revealed that the government expected the NHIS to have been established by January 2020. Speaking during belated World Health Day commemorations in Harare yesterday, Dr. Moyo said:
<blockquote>We have already started working on the NHIS, our plans are already well advanced. We are working together with the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.
This has been on the ground for the past 15 years, but we want to make sure that we get the NHIS established so that we can be able to provide universal health coverage.</blockquote>
Dr. Moyo also said that the scheme will be complemented by already existing medical aid societies. He said:
<blockquote>The existing schemes, the medical aid societies will also play a major role and they continue to play major role because they provide cover to people who have the financial capability to access services from higher levels, but we are now looking at the general population.</blockquote>

Govt Makes Inroads To Establish The National Health Insurance Scheme

Health Minister, Dr. Obadier Moyo has revealed the government’s plans to improve the health delivery system.
The Minister was speaking at the Nursing and Midwifery Universal Health Coverage Summit held in Harare on Monday. He said:
<blockquote>Zimbabwe today has joined other nations by launching this programme which has been adopted by many nations. This comes after we have realised the need to improve nurses’ working conditions and developing marginalised health centres starting with primary health care which serves most rural areas in the country.
There are plans underway for the ministry to empower the least qualified nurses so that fewer complications will be referred to district and provincial hospitals. Under the same umbrella, big health institutions will have at least four qualified doctors, so that patients will be served urgently.
I am addressing this on the nurses’ perspective. My vision is for the health services to have a down-to-top approach where all ideas from the junior health subordinates must be listened to and used by the ministry to make the necessary adjustments.</blockquote>
The disclosure comes when the Zimbabwe Nurses’ Association(ZINA) president Mr. Enock Dongo had called upon the government to improve nurses’ working conditions. Issues they raised include salaries and shortage of medical equipment.

Gvt Pledges To Improve Nurses' Condition Of Service

Reports suggest that nurses and staff at  Chiredzi General Hospital are selling uncertified frozen water and overnight maheu to patients as a means to supplement their salaries. 
In a letter addressed to the hospital patron, the director of Divine Foundation Trust, Tafara Pondiwa expressed his organisation’s health concerns. Part of the letter read:
<blockquote>The problem we are encountering is at the hospital and especially in the wards is the selling of home-made repacked overnight mahewu and frozen water to hospitalised patients by nurses and police officers’ wives, who are putting patients at risk of disease infection.
As an organisation we are worried about the stuff sold because it has come to our attention that they pick used bottles and re-pack them with water and mahewu. We request your office to help us by enforcing and restricting the sale of such food items in hospital wards.</blockquote>
Patients however expressed their ignorance to health hazards they were exposed to. Rather, they are happy because goods are sold at very low prices.
Health and Child Care minister Obadiah Moyo said investigations can only be carried out if the questions are forwarded to the ministry’s public relations manager Donald Mujiri.

Insufficient Salaries Coerce Nurses Into Selling Maheu & Water To Patients

A developing story by ZBC News Online indicate that Harare Central Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nyasha Masuka has been fired with immediate effect. He still had about two years left on the three-year contract which was supposed to expire in 2021.
Dr Obediah Moyo, Health and Child Care Minister confirmed the development from South Africa where he is attending official business. He, however, could not shed more light on the development referring ZBC news crew to the Health Services Board (HSB) which employs health services’ workers.
Ironically, the HSB chairman Dr Paulinas Sikosana said Dr Masuka was not fired but opted out to pursue matters of personal interests.
Dr Masuka previously served as the Matabeleland North provincial medical director before joining Harare Hospital. He replaced Ms Peggy Zvavamwe last year.
