A Cape Town Metro Police officer was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting while transporting staff home, according to Safety and Security MMC JP Smith.
The incident happened on Friday night while the officer was transporting staff home. Smith said:

Sadly last night one of our law enforcement officers was the victim of a drive-by shooting. 
I’m afraid that puts us in a situation where we have to understand what the nature of that hit was.
</blockquote>
The city has not yet confirmed if the shooting is connected to the ongoing taxi strike. Instances of public violence have been reported in various areas, including Khayelitsha, Wynberg, Atlantis, Hout Bay, and Milnerton, where buses, trucks, and private vehicles were targeted.
This incident follows the recent death of a 37-year-old off-duty LEAP officer, Toufeeq Williams, who was fatally struck by a stray bullet in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain. Williams, who was caught in gang crossfire, was part of the Hanover Park LEAP deployment team.
Gun violence is a prevalent and pressing issue in South Africa, characterised by high rates of firearm-related crimes, homicides, and gang activities. Efforts to address this problem involve legislative measures, law enforcement strategies, and community-based initiatives aimed at promoting responsible firearm ownership, stricter gun control, and socio-economic development.

Cape Town Metro Police Officer Killed In Drive-By Shooting

A <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Mutare" target="_blank">Mutare</a> man, Martin Chikwanya (37) , was seriously injured on Tuesday night, after he was shot by unknown assailants travelling in 2 cars in an unprovoked drive by shooting.  Chikwanya was shot three times while waiting for transport to ferry him home.
Manicaland province <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police" target="_blank">police</a> spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, said:
 
<blockquote>Chikwanya was coming from Zimunya Township when he saw a white Toyota Noah and Honda Fit racing coming towards the bus stop. As the cars approach the bus stop, three shots hit him and he fell- down.
Chikwanya sustained wounds on the right leg thigh, left ankle, and swollen forehead and was rushed to Mutare Provincial hospital where he is receiving treatment.  As police, we are appealing to members of the public with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to report at any police station.</blockquote>
The suspects are still at large.
