MDC-T President Adv. Nelson Chamisa today chaired the party’s National Executive Committee which met for seven hours at Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House to deliberate on the party’s preparedness for the elections, among other issues.
The Executive received reports from the provinces on the state and health of the party in terms of its preparedness for the next watershed elections due in a few months’ time.

The party and its Alliance partners will be fielding candidates in all the 210 constituencies and 1 958 wards.
The executive organ also adopted the campaign programme and restated that the party remain warm to the idea of convergence or a broad church of like-minded democratic institutions so as to liquidate tyranny, oppression and government ineptitude.
The National Executive took note of the decision of the High Court. It noted with concern the creeping of politics into law and remained concerned that a whole respectable court can choose to relate itself to the issue of the so-called factions which was not even before it. What was before the courts, the Executive noted, was the issue of expelled party members who were abusing the party’s name, trademark, logo and symbols.
The Executive noted that the court ruling was not going to affect the party’s momentum on the ground. The party is putting in place robust mechanisms to ensure that its revolutionary thrust will not be undermined or sidetracked by needless and unnecessary sideshows.
In short, the party will not lose focus.
The Executive noted that the issue was now a matter of the MDC-T and the people versus Dr Khupe and Zanu PF.
History has shown that the side of the people will always win.

Full Text: Chamisa And Alliance Partners To Field Candidates In All 210 Constituencies, 1 958 Wards

Speaking after meeting President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Sadc Executive Secretary Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax said the country’s political and legislative environment is conducive for elections.
This is despite the fact that Parliament is still debating amendments to the Electoral Act which the opposition argue will not affect this year’s elections because of time. Said Tax:
<blockquote>As you are aware we had on observer mission here, a pre-electoral observer mission and we have shared a few issues and generally our findings are that you are set for elections. Politically, the environment is conducive, the legislative environment is also conducive, pointing to a readiness for elections and also the reform processes which are ongoing. We also have agreed on how we can work together as a region to support Zimbabwe.</blockquote>

Zimbabwe's Political And Legislative Environment Conducive For Elections: SADC

Commenting on the Zanu-PF’s preparations for elections this year, a Herald opinion article said that Mnangagwa has all but ditched the Indigenisation message. While the party’s manifesto for the elections is yet to be launched, it is clear from several addresses by President Mnangagwa that the message is now about attracting investment, said the comment.
<blockquote>It is worth noting that President Mnangagwa’s recent addresses have strayed from long-time message of indigenisation. In Davos, he repeated what he said during his inauguration speech that trade and international cooperation will be centrepiece of administration priorities.

Mnangagwa Ditches Zanu-PF's Long-time Indigenisation Message As He Prepares For Elections

Former Industry and International Trade minister and 2018 Presidential candidate Nkosana Moyo, has denied claims that he was spineless for resigning from his ministerial post in 2001. Speaking in an interview after announcing his candidature for the 2018 elections yesterday, Moyo said:
<blockquote>I invite you to think about a number of scenarios. If you are a member of a football team or netball team, and you are a member of seven or 11 as the case may be and you are the only one in that team that believes in a particular strategy and everybody else believes in a different strategy, do you think you are going to succeed? Does staying in that team when you don’t believe in what it’s doing indicate courage or weakness? My humble opinion is that staying where you know you are not adding value, where you know what you believe in is not going to be followed, none of your advice is going to be taken is being cowardly. So I don’t think leaving was cowardly, I think staying would have been cowardly.</blockquote>

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHCR) has called on political parties to urge their supporters not to engage in violence ahead of the forthcoming 2018 harmonised elections.
Speaking last Friday at the the appointment ceremony of Mrs Makanatsa Makonese to the post of executive secretary of the organisation, ZHRC chairperson, Elasto Mugwadi, said the organisation remained committed to ensure that free and safe elections prevailed in the country. Said Mugwadi:
<blockquote>Our mandate in line with elections is very clear. We do embark on pre-election awareness campaigns and resources permitting, we would like to do it long before elections begin. What we are trying to do is to bring to the attention of the people that winning the election is not by violence. It has to be in terms of following democratic principles enshrined in our Constitution. People have the right to assembly, association and choose their political leaders by free will not by cohesion.</blockquote>
Mugwadi, however, said the commission members would not be supervising electoral participants as they did not have the capacity.

Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHCR) urges political parties to desist from violence ahead of 2018 election

During a meeting on Monday in the capital, the <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Electoral_Commission">Zimbabwe Electoral Commission</a> indicated that it has started preparations for the 2018 harmonised elections by submitting its election budget to Treasury for consideration ahead of the 2017 national budget presentation. ZEC and the political parties also agreed on creating nine sub-committees which will assist ZEC as it prepares for the polls.
In an interview with The Herald, on the sidelines of the meeting with political parties at the ZEC head office in Harare, the commission’s chairperson, Justice <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Rita_Makarau">Rita Makarau</a>, said they were already preparing for the 2018 harmonised elections with voter education expected to officially commence soon with voters registration expected to begin April next year when the biometric equipment is expected to have been imported.
Some of the sub-committees to comprise political parties representatives are the mapping committee, voter education committee, voter registration committee, media and publicity committee, Legal committee, liaison committee, political parties funding committee and the accreditation committee.

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission starts preparations for 2018 elections

Addressing hundreds of people who attended <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Temba_Mliswa">Temba Mliswa</a>’s victory celebration rally in Norton on Saturday, the former Hurungwe West legislator announced his intentions to contest the forthcoming presidential elections.
Mliswa said,
<blockquote>If I have won Norton against Zanu PF, what else will stop me from winning the presidential election in 2018, I can win the presidential seat and I am going for it. I will never lose to Zanu PF, it died on 22 October when I defeated them here in Norton. The party’s two vice presidents came here to address rallies but I defeated them. Mugabe could not come to Norton during the campaign because he knew that I was going to defeat him as well.</blockquote>

Mliswa believes he can win 2018 presidential elections

<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front">Zanu PF</a> affiliate organisations have endorsed President <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a> as the sole candidate for the 2018 presidential elections.
The organisations, which met the President on Saturday in Harare, include war collaborators, ex-detainees, ex-restrictees, widows of fallen heroes, non-combatant cadres and war victims. This declaration comes as Zanu-PF provinces held provincial inter-district meetings over the weekend and resolved that Mugabe should be the party’s presidential candidate in the 2018 polls.

Indigenisation Minister <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Zhuwao">Patrick Zhuwao</a> has said that the current crisis will ensure that that Zanu PF wins the 2018 election.
Addressing journalists in Bulawayo recently, Zhuwao said,
<blockquote>Zanu PF is definitely going to win the next elections. When you look at Zanu PF’s performance in elections, it performs very well under pressure. When it is comfortable it tends to relax. In 2005 elections we had a constitutional majority and look at what happened in 2008, the party dropped the ball but in 2013 we retained the constitutional majority.</blockquote>
Zhuwao who is also Mugabe’s nephew and<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front"> Zanu PF</a> Deputy Secretary for Science and Technology in the politburo, said the party’s recent loss in Norton was a wake-up call which has inspired them to double their campaign efforts ahead of the 2018,
<blockquote>What happened in Norton is actually assisting us to make sure that we keep reminding ourselves of what happened in 2008. As a party, we are now addressing the concerns of the people.</blockquote>

Zhuwao says the current crisis will ensure that Zanu PF wins 2018 election

Former Vice-President and <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_People_First" target="_blank">Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF)</a> leader, Joice Mujuru  has declared that she is the next President, and the future of Zimbabwe while condemning <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe" target="_blank">Robert Mugabe</a> as the past and a symbol of failure.  She also urged youths to vote in order to win the 2018 elections.
Speaking at White City Stadium Youth Arena in Bulawayo, Mujuru said:
<blockquote>I am the bridge towards a better future, a better life for all. Mugabe is 92, I am 61, and we have a 31-year age difference. Mugabe represents the past, represents failures, whereas I, Mujuru, am the bridge to forming the next government that will bring change to Zimbabwe and Zimbabweans.
I urge you to refuse to be used by politicians to commit whatever crimes, as we head towards the elections. You should unite, and mobilise each other to go and register to vote in the next elections to be able to remove this government that has caused immeasurable damage to this country.</blockquote>

<blockquote>We have no problems in districts but our problems start here at the high table, down there you don’t know where these divisions are coming from, so we are urging everyone to end this and win the elections in 2018.</blockquote>

After Christmas, we should all say President Robert Mugabe for 2018, yes, we had time for divisions, but this should come to an end, but you will see someone busy crafting a vote-of-no-confidence for someone, please, we should be united for one cause.</blockquote>
