Political Analyst Brian Kagoro, in the audio below, breaks down former state president Thabo Mbeki’s visit to Zimbabwe to meet political leaders allegedly over the political and economic crises. Zimbabwe is grappling with famine, power and fuel shortages, and annual inflation estimated at 440%, the second-highest in the world.
Kagoro observes that Mbeki is not the “pill” Zimbabwe needs to take for transformation to happen in the country.
He also notes that the factor immensely contributing to the Zimbabwean crises is governance or lack of good governance thereof.

An Analysis Of President Thabo Mbeki's Visit To Zimbabwe By Political Analyst Brian Kagoro (AUDIO)

The president has donated rice to rural constituencies, Sunday News reports. Each constituency is expected to get at least 15 tonnes of rice this festive season.
Social welfare deputy minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lovemore_Matuke">Lovemore Matuke</a> confirmed the news and said the donation was to treat the villagers since the price of such luxuries were now beyond the reach of many. Matuke said:
<blockquote>We have received more than 3 000 tonnes of rice from <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">President Mnangagwa</a>. The instruction is for us to give out the rice to all rural constituencies in the country before Christmas and we are working right now to ensure that it is distributed to the intended beneficiaries.
The President sourced the rice with the rural people in mind. We are thrilled that they have been cushioned. The prices of such niceties as rice is now beyond the reach of many rural dwellers. We have families that do not have anyone in town and they are not looking forward to anything other than what they have, so, the gesture by the President goes a long way to cushion them.</blockquote>
The economy has been on a downward spiral for some time with prices of basic goods like rice exponentially going up.

Officially closing this year’s Zanu PF Congress In Goromonzi yesterday, the<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa"> President</a> condemned all acts of misconduct that he says are hindering progress in our country Sunday News reports.
The president further reiterated that those who are hindering progress will be charged when he said:
<blockquote>All party members and the nation as a whole must shun retrogressive tendencies such as laziness, indiscipline, greed, corruption, selflessness and immorality, among other vices. I further challenge every public servant and party member to reform, reinvigorate and turn over a new leaf towards a result-oriented culture.
Excuses for non-performance will no longer be tolerated. Those who refuse to change and have been busy slowing down Government programmes will be changed. Let us shift the population towards a mindset of productivity; we will support projects across every sector of the economy.</blockquote>

The President is not limited to the mandatory 2 terms stipulated by the constitution since Zanu PF can just change the law as insinuated by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Obert_Mpofu">Obert Mpofu</a> who assured the President he could rule beyond 2028 if he so wishes, Newsday report.
Speaking at a rally in<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kadoma"> Kadoma</a>, the former home affairs minister said:
<blockquote>Mr President, you can go beyond 2028 if you so wish because the issue of law can be taken care of in Parliament,</blockquote>
When it was the president’s time to speak he echoed Mpofu’s statements by saying they could change laws to suit whatever they wanted.
<blockquote>We can change the laws … there is nothing that we want that cannot be done because we command two-thirds majority in Parliament</blockquote>

The president has said he is appalled and concerned by funds mismanagement and corruption by local authorities officials, the Herald reports.
ED was speaking at the Urban Councils Association of Zimbabwe (UCAZ) when he said:
<blockquote>I am concerned by appalling levels of corruption and mismanagement of public funds and properties by both councillors and council officials who play hide-and-seek with Government officials in the process of financial management.Those who are prone to corruption, the sun is setting. As public servants, your duty is to protect such public assets in your local authorities for the improvement of the welfare of your communities.
I exhort you to guard against putting self-interests ahead of serving the electorate and those who engage in corrupt activities shall be punished. Forewarned is forearmed. You must monitor the activities of your fellow councillors and council officials in order to get rid of councils and indeed our society of this cancer of corruption</blockquote>

ED Says He Is Appalled By The Corruption At City Councils, Promises To Punish Corrupt Council Officials

Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the opposition MDC has said that the socio-economic crisis in the country is fast deteriorating and can explode any time if no appropriate action is taken.
His remarks come when the country is submerged in socio-economic and political crises which manifest through the soaring inflation, deficits in power, water, food and the deteriorating democratic space. He said:
<blockquote>Zimbabwe is suffering; it is in serious crisis that runs the risk of imploding soon. We have a hungry population, a nation that is in pain. No citizen is without a charge sheet against government: pensioners, vendors, women, youths, the unemployed, nurses, doctors, teachers and workers in the private sector among them, and this is a fact.
As I speak, there is hunger in the townships, villages, farms, police posts and police camps, there is hunger everywhere. Hunger knows no wall. It does not pay respect to political party affiliation or tribal belonging of clan. It is a common threat to survival.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, analysts have suggested a dialogue between Chamisa and President Emmerson Mnangagwa and dollarisation of the economy to crush the inflation and assure growth.
