The English Premier League (EPL) returned to action on Boxing Day for matchday 19 after a traditional break on Christmas. There were surprising wins for Manchester United and Chelsea, two teams with a great history in the league but have not been performing well recently.

Meanwhile, Warriors captain, Marvelous Nakamba, missed Luton Town’s recent 3-2 victory against Sheffield United due to a knee injury. This marked his third consecutive missed match for Luton, including their wins against Newcastle United and Sheffield United in the English Premier League.
Nakamba joined Luton Town permanently from Aston Villa in July after a successful loan spell in the previous season. He played a key role in helping Luton gain promotion to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs. In the current season, Nakamba has started in 13 out of 18 games, completing the full duration in 10 of them and being substituted in three. He has won nine fouls, committed 24 fouls, and received five yellow cards, resulting in a one-match suspension.
Due to his suspension, Nakamba was supposed to miss the match against Bournemouth. However, the game was abandoned, and the suspension carried over to the next match against Newcastle United. Unfortunately, Nakamba’s return to the team was further delayed by his knee injury, and his availability for the upcoming game against Chelsea on Saturday will be assessed.

Zimbabwean midfielder Marshall Munetsi, who plays for French Ligue 1 club Stade Reims, is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury. Munetsi sustained a serious sprain on his right ankle during a match against Rennes on Sunday. He was forced to leave the field on a stretcher just 33 minutes into the game after colliding with an opponent.
His coach, Will Still, expressed concerns about the extent of the injury after the match. Still described Munetsi’s ankle as swollen and twice its normal size, indicating a potentially long recovery period. He said:

Marshall Munetsi Facing A Lengthy Spell On The Sidelines After Suffering An Ankle Injury

Luton Town FC won their first home league victory of the season this Saturday when they defeated Crystal Palace 2-1. This was also their first at Kenilworth Road in the top flight since April 1992, when they defeated Aston Villa 2-0.
Crystal Palace, on the other hand, have lost four out of their last five Premier League matches, whereas they had only lost four in their previous 18 games since Roy Hodgson returned to the club.
The match between Luton and Crystal Palace is their first meeting in any competition since the 2006-07 Championship season, with Luton emerging victorious in both games back then with a 2-1 scoreline.
Luton made two changes to their lineup for this match. Issa Kabore, who sustained a head injury while playing for Burkina Faso during the international break, was replaced by Bell on the right. Marvelous Nakamba was also absent due to a knee injury, making way for Mpanzu in midfield. This is the first league game Nakamba has missed for Luton this season. 
Luton currently have nine points from 13 matches, which puts them just above the relegation line in the Premier League. They are in the fourth position from the bottom of the league table. Luton Town Win Their 2nd Premier League Match

Luton Town managed to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw in their recent match at Kenilworth Road. Luton had to withstand a lot of pressure from Liverpool before they scored a goal through a quick counter-attack. Kabore made a fantastic cross into the middle for Chong, who finished it off. Luton looked like they would secure the victory, but in added time, Diaz scored for Liverpool with a header, dedicating his celebration to his missing father in Colombia.
The final whistle brought cheers from the Luton fans, as Liverpool was gaining momentum and searching for a winning goal. Luton earned a valuable point from the match, which lifted them out of the relegation zone and up to 17th place. Liverpool, on the other hand, moved up to third in the league, surpassing Arsenal on goal difference. They now focus on their upcoming Europa League match against Toulouse.
Luton will aim to build on this result as they prepare to face Manchester United at Old Trafford in their next fixture. However, there was a controversial moment involving Marvelous Nakamba, a Zimbabwean international who plays for Luton, who made a strong challenge on Mac Allister in midfield. Liverpool believed the former Club Brugge defensive midfielder deserved a red card, but the referee only showed a yellow, even after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) check.

French midfielder, N’Golo Kante has left Chelsea to join Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad after seven years at Stamford Bridge where  he won numerous trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup He was also part of the French team that won the World Cup in 2018.
Chelsea’s co-sporting directors praised Kante’s impact and influence on the club. Kante’s ball-winning ability was crucial to Chelsea’s unexpected league crown in the 2016/17 season, which earned him multiple Player of the Year awards. In a statement seen by Pindula News, the club said:

EPL, Castle Lager PSL Results And Fixtures

Arsenal and England winger Bukayo Saka has extended his stay at Emirates to at least the summer of 2027 after signing a new four-year contract with the Gunners.
Saka’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of next season. He has been a standout player for Arsenal in the last two seasons, scoring 14 goals and registering 11 assists in all competitions this season.
He was also the club’s top scorer last term with 11 goals. Saka’s new deal is a boost for Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta, and he joins Aaron Ramsdale and Gabriel Martinelli in committing their futures to the club. Saka told the Arsenal official website:

Crystal Palace Football Club, an English team playing in the Premier League, have sacked Patrick Viera following a series of poor results.

Football Roundup: Castle Lager, English Premier League Results

Arsenal beat Brentford 3-0 on Sunday afternoon to return to the top of the Premier League dislodging reigning champions, Manchester who had ascended to the summit of the table on Saturday following a 3-0 win against Wolves.
The Gunners had a game in hand.
Mikel Arteta’s men scored two goals in the first half hour (William Saliba 17′ Gabriel Jesus 28′) putting the Gunners in a commanding position before Fábio Vieira put a gloss on the win with a lovely long-range strike on the 49′ minute.
Brentford weren’t bad. They just weren’t as good.
Meanwhile, Everton beat West Ham to win their first Premier League game of the season. 
The game took a long time to get going, with neither side showing a big threat in the first half. 
After the break, Everton came out quickly and Neal Maupay (53′) thumped a shot into the near post for his first Toffees goal. 
West Ham pushed for an equaliser and hit the post through substitute Benrahma’s whipped effort, but they couldn’t find a way through.

Arsenal Return To The Top Of The Premier League

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has revealed that Zimbabwean international footballer, Marvelous Nakamba is among the most overlooked African midfielders in the EPL.
He made the remarks in an interview with On The Whistle Podcast during which he suggested that there was no big difference between Nakamba, Leceister’s Wilfred Ndidi, and Arsenal’s Thomas Partey. He said:

So I look at [Marvelous] Nakamba, the boy who’s playing in Aston Villa, from Zimbabwe, and I look at the boy playing for Leicester City as a six [Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi].

Nakamba is currently on surgical treatment having picked a knee injury last year. The injury will see Nakamba off from the pitch for 12-16 weeks.
During the tenure of Dean Smith at Villa Park, Nakamba was reduced to a bench warmer which also sparked rumours about him being set to be offloaded on a loan deal.
However, with the coming in of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard at the club, the Zimbabwean midfielder gained his position, starting a couple of games.

Al Ahly Coach Pitso Mosimane Says Nakamba Is Among Overlooked Midfielders In EPL

Nakamba was taken off on the hour at Anfield three days ago with an MRI scan since revealing he’s picked up a significant knee injury.
The 27-year-old went to see a specialist prior to Villa’s 2-0 win over Norwich and Gerrard has revealed that the news isn’t good. Gerrard said, with Nakamba also set to miss January’s Africa Cup of Nations. He said:

He said Nakamba was certainly going to be missing for some time because it’s a serious injury.
