An official in the Ministry of Lands was on Tuesday grilled by members of Parliament over fresh farm invasions witnessed in Manicaland province recently.
Secretary in the Ministry, Ringson Chitsiko appeared before the Lands Parliamentary Portfolio Committee where the legislators demanded to know why the Provincial Affairs Minister Ellen Gwaradzimba’s son Remembrance Mbudzana was offered land belonging to Richard Le Vieux, a coffee farmer.
Chitsiko revealed that Mbudzana was given plot 1 of Farfell Coffee Estates early this year. He said:
<blockquote>What happens is that an offer letter might be given to an individual, but in due course, it is realised that, in fact, such an offer letter should not have been given.
The process of reversing is that the holder of the unintended offer letter is given the notice to withdraw and should respond within seven days, but in this case (of Mbudzana), it was not a case of illegal resettlement and the individual in question had an offer letter.
The offer letter to Mbudzana must have been issued sometime at the beginning of this year.</blockquote>
The government has since revoked the offer letter given to Mbudzan and assured the former Swiss banker security of tenure.

Farfell Estates is an established brand whose coffee product was even featured in a Hollywood film, Borat. Any Zimbabwean who wants land can get land because there are hundreds of farms lying idle, it is counterproductive for our country to continue taking established businesses.</blockquote>
In May Le Vieux was been <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/white-farmer-in-court-for-refusing-to-cede-land-to-ministers-son/">dragged to court for allegedly refusing to vacate part of his farm for Remembrance Mbudzana</a>. He appeared before a Chipinge magistrate where he pleaded not guilty to contravening section 3(2) ()a) as read with section (3)(3) of the Gazetted Land (Consequential Provisions) Act (occupying gazetted land without lawful authority).
The farm is located in Mount Selinda, Eastern Highlands.
