A 32-year-old man from Filabusi has been arraigned before the Filabusi Magistrates’ Court on charges of rape.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA), the incident occurred on the 28th of March 2024 at around 8 PM.
The complainant, who is visually impaired and lives alone, had retired to bed but had forgotten to lock her door.
While she was asleep, the accused person managed to gain entry into her residence.
When the complainant was awakened by the sound of the creaking door, she inquired about the intruder’s identity.
However, the accused person quickly jumped onto the bed, squeezed the victim’s neck, and proceeded to rape her. Following the heinous act, the perpetrator fled the scene.
The complainant’s cries for help were heard by her nearby nephew, who immediately alerted the local neighbourhood watch committee.
The committee members tracked the footprints left by the accused person, which led them to his place of residence.
There, they were able to recover the shoes that matched the footprints, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The court has since sentenced the accused individual to 16 years in prison.

A man in Filabusi was sentenced to prison for raping a blind woman. The incident happened at night while the woman was asleep. The man broke into her house and attacked her. The woman's nephew heard her screams and alerted the neighbors, who found the man's shoes. The man was arrested and sentenced to 16 years in prison by the court. Filabusi Man (32) Rapes Visually Impaired Woman

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported that they have arrested a man named Takeknowledge Mthombeni (39) for <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/12/26/filabusi-man-shot-dead-over-missing-snooker-token/">shooting and killing</a> Wilson Malunga (21) while they were playing snooker in Filabusi on Christmas day. The suspect has also been charged with armed robbery, as the firearm he used was stolen during a previous robbery in Mberengwa. A police report seen by Pindula News read:

Reference is made to the ZRP message on X platform on 26/12/23 in which Wilson Malunga (21) was shot dead by suspect, Takeknowledge Mthombeni (39) while playing snooker in Filabusi on 25/12/23 at around 0130 hours. The police has arrested the suspect at Mabhuru Business Centre, Neta, Mberengwa. The firearm used in the commission of the crime has been recovered. The suspect is now facing another charge of armed robbery in relation to the case which occurred in Mberengwa on 23/12/23 where the firearm used to kill Wilson Malunga was stolen.

In August 2022, President Emmerson Mnangagwa offered amnesty to people who owned illegal firearms in Zimbabwe. The amnesty allowed them to hand in their guns to the police without facing any consequences. Around 538 guns were surrendered before the deadline, and the amnesty was extended.
Unfortunately, despite this effort, there is still a problem with gun violence in the country. The police are still receiving reports of homicides and armed robberies involving unlicensed firearms. The amnesty does not seem to have fully solved the issue.
Gun violence is a serious problem because it puts people’s lives at risk and creates fear and insecurity in communities. The government needs to take further action to address this issue and ensure the safety of its citizens.
In a separate incident, the police in Odzi are asking for help in an investigation of a hit-and-run accident that happened on Christmas day. A man (36) was hit by a car at Riverside Bridge along the Harare-Mutare Road near Nofoke Poultry Farm. The driver did not stop after the accident, and the man died at the scene.

Update On Man Shot Dead Over Missing Snooker Token: Shooter Arrested

Two men who were part of a group that had been hired to erect a perimeter fence at a mine in Filabusi were trapped underground and died after they had sneaked into a shaft to steal gold ore.
The deceased were identified as Nobert Banhu (24) and Naison Moyo (31), under Chief Skhobokhobo, Nkayi.
ZRP spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident to the <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local/article/200020682/duo-dies-in-filabusi-mine-collapse">Southern Eye</a>. She said:

I can confirm that I received a report on an incident in Insiza Mine in Filabusi. The circumstances are that on December 4, the two deceased with other mine workers spent the whole day fencing the mine.
It is reported that during the night the deceased connived to steal gold ore from the mine and entered the shaft.
A security guard who was doing routine checks realised that one of the mineshafts had collapsed.
The security guard alerted other mine workers who then retrieved the bodies.

Two Men Die In A Mine Shaft In Filabusi

Nine people, including five <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_University_of_Science_and_Technology">National University of Science and Technology (NUST)</a> students, died after they were involved in a road accident along the Masvingo-<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mbalabala">Mbalabala</a> road on Thursday.
In an obituary seen by Pindula News, NUST’s Chaplaincy Office said the accident occurred near <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Filabusi_District_Hospital">Filabusi</a>. Reads the obituary:

The accident occurred at around 4.30 pm when the students were travelling back to Bulawayo after attending a funeral. 
The bodies of the victims were taken to Filabusi District Hospital awaiting post-mortem.

5 NUST Students Die In An Accident

The school head and a teacher at Thokozani Secondary School, Insiza district, Matabeleland South Province have been arrested on allegations of conniving to leak a Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) Ordinary Level paper.
The headmaster, Gainmore Muzezewa, and the teacher, Howard Zipore, are set to appear before a magistrate at Filabusi Magistrate Court.
In a statement on Friday, ZIMSEC warned examination centre administrators that they risk arrest and prosecution for any leakages of exam papers.
ZIMSEC said some candidates, examination administrators, and members of the public have been arrested and have appeared before the courts for leaking examination papers. It said:

Candidates who had pre-access to question papers at different examination centres were identified. As a result of the investigations some candidates, examination administrators, and members of the public have been arrested and have appealed before the courts.
Examination centre administrators who were the source of the leakage were apprehended together with their distribution networks.
The Investigation team has arrested a man who fraudulently registered a SIM Card line in the name of ZIMSEC Mutare. Masquerading as a ZIMSEC official, he was found selling fake certificates and some question papers.
The Police Forensic Unit is currently tracing all Candidates who shared the Question Papers on various social media platforms, including WhatsApp and Telegram. More candidates have been apprehended and arraigned before the courts. The law has and is taking its course.
… Candidates who had pre-access to question papers continue to be identified and in line with the ZIMSEC Act, Section 34. will have examination results cancelled.

School Head, Teacher Arrested Over ZIMSEC Exams Leak

Scores of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members were injured when supporters of the ruling <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/just-in-ccc-says-suspected-zanu-pf-thugs-attacked-and-injured-bulawayo-mp-ccc-members/">ZANU PF stormed the opposition party’s rally in Insiza on Monday.</a>
The party announced on Monday that its Member of Parliament (MP) for Bulawayo Metropolitan, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jasmine_Toffa">Jasmine Toffa</a> and a group of CCC members were badly injured following an attack by “suspected ZANU PF thugs in Insiza.” Added the party:

The thugs stole her handbag, personal belongings, money &amp; fuel coupons &amp; smashed vehicle windscreens.
</blockquote>
It is alleged that suspected ZANU PF supporters driving in a convoy stormed a CCC party by-election campaign meeting in Insiza, beating up activists, and smashing and pouring sand into vehicle engines.
CCC spokesperson, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Fadzayi_Mahere">Fadzayi Mahere</a> also posted on Twitter reiterating the reports. She said:

We’ve received a report that the thugs are pouring sand into the vehicle engines. They have stolen Hon Toffa’s handbag, personal belongings, money &amp; fuel coupons. They’ve smashed windscreens. Hon Toffa &amp; others are badly injured.

The attack allegedly happened at party candidate Augustine Gumede’s homestead, some 40km from Filabusi, where party followers were gathered.
The campaign meeting was convened to mobilise support for Gumede ahead of a council by-election in Insiza’s Ward 4.
In a message he recorded on his mobile and circulated on WhatsApp, Gumede sent a distress call from his hideout in the bush, according to ZimLive. He is quoted as saying:

The situation at my homestead is very bad. People are injured and desperate to be taken to hospital. Toffa’s car has been damaged, Angilacala’s vehicle and mine have been damaged.
All my home windows have been smashed and all my property damaged.
I have been left with nothing and have nowhere to start.
As I speak, we are hiding in the bush, our car tyres were stabbed and deflated.

Gumede said police were called via phone but were yet to render any assistance.

Update On Insiza Violence: Scores Injured As ZANU PF Storms CCC Rally

The full statement issued by ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on the arrest of suspects linked to armed robbery cases involving gold carbons.
<h2>ARREST OF FOUR SUSPECTS FOR ARMED ROBBERY CASES INVOLVING GOLD CARBONS IN FILABUSI AND ESIGODINI</h2>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Candy Moyo (27), Busani Ndlovu (20), Prince Moyo (31) and Tavona Zhou (45) in connection with a spate of armed robbery cases involving the theft of gold carbons which occurred between 11 August 2022 and 28 September 2022 in Filabusi and Esigodini.
On 29 September 2022, detectives in Filabiusi arrested Candy Moyo after receiving information that linked him to robbery cases targeting gold carbons.
The suspect implicated Busani Ndlovu and Prince Moyo who were arrested at Macoomba Mine, Filabusi.
Further investigations by the Police led to the arrest of Tavona Zhou and the recovery of a get-away vehicle, a Honda Fit, registration number AFN 0092.
The suspects are linked to three cases of armed robbery which include the one which occurred on 11 August 2022 where the suspects pounced at Cowslip 37 Mine, whilst armed with machetes, a bolt cutter and a hammer, before stealing 400 kgs of gold carbons valued at US$417 000.00.
In another case which occurred on 1st September 2022 at True Blue Mine, Filabusi, the suspects attacked the complainant before stealing 100 kgs of gold carbons, while on 28th September 2022 the suspects attacked two complainants before stealing ZWL$80.00, a cellphone and 250kgs of gold carbons.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the suspects’ accomplices, only identified as Honest Phiri, Nqobile Dube, Joachim Mangena and Marko Moyo.

Police Arrest Suspects Linked To Spate Of Armed Robberies

A Filabusi High School teacher who went missing on 1 April this year was found dead on 7 April, with his body in an advanced state of decomposition.
The teacher, Creedence Ncube (41), was driving a Mazda Demio car which is still missing.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province, Inspector Loveness Mangena, confirmed the development. She said:

I can confirm that we recorded a suspected murder case where Creedence Ncube’s body was found in an advanced state of decomposition at Hayhill plot in Filabusi.
Ncube left his home on 1 April driving a Mazda Demio going to the business centre.
He didn’t return home and his family filed a missing person’s report at Filabusi Police Station on 3 April.
His remains were found on 7 April in an advanced state of decomposition while the vehicle he was using hasn’t been recovered.
Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of his death but we suspect foul play. 
We appeal to members of the public with information that could assist in the investigations and recovery of his car to contact the police.

Missing Filabusi Teacher Found Dead

An unidentified flying object (UFO) was reportedly spotted in Gwanda rural and urban on 20 January, residents told B-Metro in recent interviews.
According to <a href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/unidentified-flying-object">Britannica</a>, a UFO, also called a flying saucer, is any aerial object or optical phenomenon not readily identifiable to the observer.
The UFO supposedly sighted in Gwanda reportedly looked like a flying saucer, had multiple bright colours and exploded in the night sky.
A witness, Nkosi Emmanuel Moyo, told B-Metro that it took less than a minute for it to shoot through and leave a trail of light. He said:

I don’t know how to describe it but it was shiny and flashy with a trailing light of over 100 metres, it was scary because it was an unusual light in the sky and I saw it from the southern direction.
I am sure it must have been spotted by people as far as Filabusi.
Imagine sitting in a car all relaxed, knowing how dark it is in the rural areas and all of a sudden an unusual light pops up and it’s all glowing in the sky, it was scary. There was no time to even capture it.

Thulani Moyo of Filabusi described the UFO as “a rocket with fire on its back”. Said Moyo:

I can confirm that I witnessed a strange light travelling in the sky. It had a frightening explosion-like sound. Despite the clear skies, it sounded like rain thunder.

In March last year, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/03/23/chipinge-man-injured-during-encounter-with-ufo-narrate-his-story/">a Chipinge man fell off his motorbike and was injured after witnessing an alleged UFO.</a>
Narrating the incident from Chipinge District Hospital where he was being treated, 47-year-old Richman Myambo said:

I was travelling home on my motorbike at around 9 am when I witnessed a strange light travelling in the sky. I tried to concentrate on riding, but what made me fall was the sound that followed after the light. I then fell on the bike due to panic. I thought I was dying
I was 100% sober, but I was so confused because I thought I had encountered those strange things people see in dark and thick forests. The object looked like a rocket with fire on its back.

Unidentified Flying Object Sighted In Gwanda

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of a machete and spear-wielding gang over the murder that occurred in Filabusi last week. 
The victim was reportedly assaulted for trespassing and died a few metres away from the scene after trying to escape. A police statement reads:

The ZRP confirms the arrest of Farai Mpunzi (40), Ndodana Sibanda (30), Mqondisi Sibanda (30), Aneli Sibanda (25), Obvious Nyoni (26) and Luckmore Ncube in connection with a case of murder that occurred at Bunyip Mine, Filabusi on 10/12/21 at around 1900hrs.
The six suspects, who were armed with machetes and spears, attacked Eric Mahlangu (22) over allegations of trespassing. One of the suspects stabbed the victim on the right thigh with a spear.
The victim tried to escape but collapsed and died a few metres from the scene of the crime.

Violence has been commonplace in mining towns, especially amongst artisanal miners, with some emanating from boundary disputes. In some instances, some machete-wielding gangs would just descend on mines with the intention of stealing the ore.
 Dozens have been arrested since 2019 when there was a surge in crimes committed by machete-wielding gangs.

Machete And Spear-wielding Gang Arrested For Murder

Police officers ordered a woman suspected of killing her live-in lover to dig up his remains from a shallow grave while they taunted her, a new video seen by ZimLive shows.
Siphathisiwe Sifiso Dube (49), allegedly murdered Stanley Moyo before burning and burying his body in a shallow mountain grave in Siyaphambili Village in Filabusi.
The video shows a police detective yelling “fuseki iwe” (voetsek) at the woman adding: “If I had come alone, I would have made her eat his intestines.”
Police later ordered Dube – said to be a mum of seven – to carry the remains from the mountain on her head.
Dube appeared before Filabusi regional magistrate Abednico Ndebele last Friday accused of teaming up with her son, Mqondisi Mnkandla, 20, and brother, Bhekimpilo Nkomo, 42, to kill Moyo following a domestic dispute.
The trio allegedly buried Moyo in a shallow grave on a nearby mountain, but after a few days discovered that dogs had dug the body up and were feasting on it.
They then allegedly decided to burn the body, before reburying what remained.
In the video believed to have been shot by police officers, the detectives are heard demanding to be shown Moyo’s intestines and legs which are apparently missing.
Prosecutor Shepherd Moyo did not say what led to the 16 August killing which has horrified locals.
Ndebele remanded the trio to September 16 and advised them to appeal for bail at the High Court.
Ward 1 councillor Festas Ndlovu told reporters Dube and Moyo “had a history of fighting.”
He said Dube was a widower who took in Moyo as a live-in lover.
She led police to the mountain grave after interrogation.

Police Force 'Killer' Woman To Exhume Her Murdered Lover

Four men are on the run after they beat up a man to death at Royal Mine in Filabusi following a misunderstanding.
Police said the suspects Philani Muntanga, Shelton Muntanga, Silent Muntanga and Fortunate Muntanga who were armed with axes and logs attacked the man on July 30.
The man later died while at his homestead on August 5. Said the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in a statement:

The victim (22) died at his homestead on 5 August after he was assaulted with logs and an axe by the suspects on 30 July who accused him of harbouring intentions of assaulting Philani Muntanga. Investigations are in progress. The ZRP is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of suspects Philani Muntanga, Shelton Muntanga, Silent Muntanga and Fortunate Muntanga.

Four Men On The Run After Beating A Man To Death

The resident Filabusi Magistrate was fined $500 for converting the money that he was supposed to bank as cash but retained part of it and replaced it with electronic money, the Chronicle reports.
According to the publication:
<blockquote>Mzingaye Ephraim Phanankosi Moyo (33) of Low density in Filabusi, received $962 in judicial fines, court fees and bail re-imbursements which he was supposed to deposit into the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) bank accounts.
Instead, he deposited $531 cash into the bank accounts and deposited the rest via transfer.</blockquote>
Moyo pleaded not guilty to theft and was charged with abuse of duty.

Filabusi Magistrate Fined For Converting Court Cash Into Electronic Money

A miner from Filabusi reportedly shot and killed a mine owner in a dispute that started over a missing pool ball.
Xolani Ncube (35) of Mlenja shot Samuel Donga 3 times in the chest and once on the arm, killing him instantly.
The deceased was the owner of Marvel Mine in Filabusi whose workers had quarrelled with Ncube after a black ball went missing while they were playing snooker.
State prosecutor, Miss Glenda Nare, revealed that Ncube handed himself over to the police after having been on the run for 5 days. Said Nare:
<blockquote>On 24 April Ncube was playing a pool game at Marvel Compound with Donga’s employees when the black ball went missing and he accused them of stealing it which resulted in a misunderstanding.
Donga later heard about the matter and went to Ncube’s home in a bid to resolve the dispute. Donga arrived at Ncube’s home and accused him of attacking his workers.
This didn’t go down well with Ncube who drew a Ross revolver from his waist and shot Donga three times in the chest and once on the left arm. Donga died on the spot and his body was taken to Filabusi District Hospital Mortuary.</blockquote>
After surrendering himself at the Gwanda Urban Police Station CID department, Ncube led police to his rural home in Filabusi where he had hidden the firearm and it was recovered.
