Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi will officially open the 114th Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS) in Harare on Tuesday, August 27.
The week-long event kicked off on Monday, with hundreds of people, including children, visiting the exhibition stands and participating in the various activities on offer.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade acting chief director for protocol and conference services Livit Mugejo said:

The Zimbabwe Agricultural Show will be officially opened by His Excellency, President Filipe Nyusi, of Mozambique.
President Nyusi is expected in the country to officially open the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show on August 27, 2024.
It is not a State visit, but a working visit. He is coming solely for the official opening of the 114th edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show.
</blockquote>
Foreign exhibitors from India, South Africa, Zambia, Pakistan, Eswatini, Japan, Russia, Mozambique, China, Malawi and Tanzania are participating in the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS).
As of last week, the event has attracted 430 exhibitors, compared to 410 exhibitors at the previous year’s show.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/president-nyusi-officially-opens-agric-show-today/">The Herald</a>, Elizabeth Nkhwazi, the managing director of a Malawian company, expressed her anticipation of securing more deals for the goods her company supplies at the event. She said:

We chose to come to exhibit in Zimbabwe because we are in agribusiness and this is an agriculture show and it’s within our region, the SADC region.
We have exhibited at ZAS before and we have made a few deals and we are anticipating that this year we will make more deals for the goods that we supply.
We have the Kilombero rice, corn and nuts. We are also dealing in beans. We have honey. As you can see we have various products made in Malawi, produced in Malawi, and so we are trying to
find more markets, we are trying to expand our market reach.
This is actually our third year. So, it must be a very good time. Yes, we have had and seen some benefits coming, that is why we keep on attending.

The show is running under the theme: “Cultivating prosperity. Growing business. Innovating for change. Nurturing our future.”

The show has more exhibitors this year compared to last year. A Malawian company is hoping to make more deals for their products at the event. The show's theme is about growing businesses and nurturing the future. It will run for a week in Harare. President Nyusi is coming for the opening but not for a state visit.

Mozambique’s main opposition party, RENAMO has appealed against election results which the party says were marred by several irregularities.
Despite Mozambique’s Elections Commission announcing that the incumbent president, Filipe Nyusi had emerged victorious in the elections, Venâncio Mondlane, a Renamo representative, told Reuters over the phone that the party does not accept the outcome of the election. Mondlane said:
<blockquote>We want the election results to be annulled because they were not elections. They were a caricature, a circus show. 
Today we filed the appeal to the Constitutional Council against the deliberation of the National Election Commission, which we do not agree with. We demand that the Constitutional Court annul the election results.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe-led SADC Elections Observer Mission has since declared the elections free and fair.
This was despite violence breaking days before the election day with the leader of the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/08/unidentified-gunmen-kill-mozambique-poll-observer-ahead-of-elections/">local observer mission being killed by unidentified gunmen.</a>

RENAMO Appeals Against "A Circus Show" 15 October Elections

The current ruling party in Mozambique has retained power after scooping a whopping 70% in the just-ended elections. Frelimo won with over 2/3rds majority in parliament as well.
The opposition argues that the elections were not free and fair as there were delays in vote counting and over 250 people died in different states over election violence.

SADC Troika chairperson, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged stakeholders in Mozambique’s general election to remain calm and exercise patience ahead of the final announcement of election results.
His remarks come after RENAMO, the largest opposition party in Mozambique, rejected results announced so far which are in favour of the incumbent president, Filipe Nyusi of the Frelimo party. Mnangagwa said:
<blockquote>SADC reiterates its call to all stakeholders to remain patient and calm while the results continue to be compiled for the final validation and proclamation by the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Mozambique.</blockquote>
He further urged concerned parties to pursue legal routes in the event of disagreements saying that the peace that prevailed in that country following the peace deal signed between FRELIMO and RENAMO last year.
Meanwhile, the SADC observer Mission which is headed by Zimbabwe’s Defence Minister, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has since announced that the elections were peaceful. The mission is however yet to release the final report.
