Musician Freeman has been released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) after he was picked early on Tuesday for questioning by Harare CID Homicide section.
Freeman, whose real name is Energy Chizanga, was questioned by the Police in connection with an alleged crime which took place on 25 November 2023.
Police have charged him with “Conspiracy to Commit Robbery”. He denied the charge although he admitted he was once a close friend to one of the suspects who was shot dead by police in November last year.
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, Police said Chizanga has been released pending further inquiries. Police said:

Police claim the musician “conspired with the late Godfrey Machingura and one Paul Ernest Mzenge Zhou to commit an armed robbery against Paul Chimbodza of house number 51 Dunkled Road Mt Pleasant, Harare where it is further alleged that he supplied information in relation to the residential address of the victim Paul Chimbodza”.
In his warned and cautioned statement circulated on social media, Freeman, who is one of the most established Zimdancehall artists, denied any links with the said suspects.
He said those spreading the allegations were trying to destroy his reputation and career.

Freeman Set Free "Pending Further Inquiries" - ZRP

Musician Freeman, whose real name is Energy Chizanga, has denied links to robbery conspiracy.
Chizanga was picked on Tuesday for questioning by Harare CID Homicide section in connection with the alleged crime which took place on 25 November, <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/freeman-denies-conniving-with-robbers-admits-friendship-with-slain-suspect/">reported ZimLive</a>.
Police have charged the Zimdancehall chanter with “Conspiracy to Commit Robbery”.
The musician admitted that he was once a close friend to one of the suspects who was shot dead by police in November 2023 but was not aware that he was an armed robber.
Police claim Chizanga “conspired with the late Godfrey Machingura and one Paul Ernest Mzenge Zhou to commit an armed robbery against Paul Chimbodza of house number 51 Dunkled Road Mt Pleasant, Harare where it is further alleged that he supplied information in relation to the residential address of the victim Paul Chimbodza”.
In his warned and cautioned statement later circulated on social media, Chizanga denied any links with the said suspects. He said:

I vehemently deny the allegations in toto and will put the state to the strictest of proof to each and every allegation thereof.
I never entered into any agreement with the said Machingura, Muzenge or any other person for the commission of a crime or for the intended purpose of assisting the commission of any crime (armed robbery in this case). I never conspired with anyone to commit armed robbery as alleged.
I never met with or spoke to Godfrey Machingura or Paul Ernest Muzenge on 25 November 2023 nor supply them with the residential address of one Paul Chimbodza as alleged or at all.
For the record, I do not even know the said Paul Chimbodza, I have never met with him and have never visited his house.
I do not even know where he stays and no one gave me his address. I also never met and do not know Paul Ernest Muzenge.
I challenge the said Muzenge to prove or produce evidence of such a meeting between himself, Machingura and myself (if at all) on 25 November 2023 as alleged.
I further challenge Muzenge to produce evidence of any call history or text message or whatsapp message or any other form of communication he or anyone may allege I did to him or Machingura on the said date allegedly giving them Paul Chimbodza’s residential address. Such NEVER happened. The only person I knew was Machingura.
I previously responded to a H-Metro newspaper article setting the record straight for the sake of my legions of fans and business, potential business associates and the nation at large.
In brief, I wish to further state that I started interacting with Machingura back in 2017 when my management team was contacted by Machingura inviting me to perform at a show he was organising in Durban.
Machingura presented himself to my management as a music promoter and someone who really liked my music.
My management entered into an agreement with him and Machingura paid for the whole show, including our air tickets to and from Durban (inclusive of all expenses, food and accommodation).
Our first show together was a huge success such that he invited me to another show in Durban in 2018.
Ever since that time, we grew to be friends since I was very appreciative of the support he extended to me as a musician and many other musicians at a very difficult time.
My association with Machingura was purely innocent and founded business/relationship. I had on some music entertainment photos taken with him innocently, the same way he would have pictures taken with many other artists.
I never knew or suspected that he could be involved with armed robbery or crime. At least I never saw anything that could have made me suspicious or suspect that he was involved in crime.
Sometimes he would invite me and my band members to stay at his house if we had shows in Joburg, South Africa and he would also tell me whenever he was travelling to Zimbabwe.
However, around 2021 he started withdrawing himself from me and would not share much information about his movement and travels to Zimbabwe.
Sometimes I would phone him when I got to Joburg asking if he was in town only for him to tell me that he was in Zimbabwe.
I also never knew about his alleged associates and association with armed robbers.
For the record, I am a musician and a family man who has worked so hard to build my brand to where it is.
I would never willingly, intentionally and knowingly associate with any criminal elements because this will definitely affect my family, music, brand and professional carrier.
In recent times, Machingura and I were no longer as close as we had become between 2017 and 2020.
I never knew that Machingura was now involved in crime. This probably explains why he had withdrawn himself from me.
It is also unfair, malicious and insensitive for Muzenge or any other person to falsely allege that I supplied them with information that was used or to be used to commit armed robbery. That is FALSE.
For the record once again, on the said date: 25 November 2023, 1 left my house and met with my band crew in town and we travelled to Chinhoyi where we had a show at Sinoia Primary School.
My wife and band members can confirm that I never at any stage on that day met with Machingura and Muzenge.
I also give the police full access to my phone to physically check if I ever shared any such information as alleged on the day in issue or at all.
Better still, the police have the ability and MUST forensically examine Machingura and Muzenge’s phones to see if at all I ever shared with them Chimbodza’s residential address as alleged.
Needless to say, the police have been lied to by this Muzenge guy if it is true that he is the one who alleged that I supplied them with Chimbodza’s residential address.
I do not know the circumstances under which he is alleged to have claimed that I gave him and Machingura Chimbodza’s residential address.
The said Chimbodza can also easily confirm that we are not friends, we have never met, I have never visited his house and there is no way I would have shared information about a person I have never known or heard of.
Whoever is behind these false allegations is bent on destroying my reputation, music brand and career but the truth shall set me free. I am very innocent. I will emerge STRONGER.

Musician Freeman Denies "Conspiracy To Commit Robbery" Charge, Admits Friendship With Slain Suspect

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that Zimdancehall chanter Energy Chizanga (34) better known as Freeman is currently being interviewed by CID Homicide over his links to armed robbery suspects. In a statement seen by Pindula News, police said:

The ZRP confirms that musician Energy Chizanga (34) aka ”Freeman” is currently being interviewed by CID Homicide in connection with ongoing investigations into criminal allegations and association with armed robbery suspects.

ZRP said more details to be availed in due course.
This comes after pictures emerged in which Freeman posed with Godknows Machingura, a suspected armed robber who was shot dead by detectives during a shootout in Harare recently.
Freeman’s camp said that his involvement with Machingura, who was a music promoter in South Africa, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/12/25/freeman-denies-criminal-involvement-amid-alleged-ties-with-slain-suspected-armed-robber-godknows-machingura/">was purely on showbiz business.</a> The musician claims he first knew Machingura in 2017 when he promoted his first show in Durban, South Africa. Freeman insists that just like other local artists, he performed in South Africa courtesy of the late Machingura.
Freeman, through his lawyer Dumisani Mthombeni, was cited as saying he only posted Machingura on his social media platforms as an appreciation after he sponsored one of his music videos “Unobvuma Here”, which features Nox.
Machingura, who was based in Durban, reportedly promoted several musicians from Zimbabwe and had been posting photos with them on his social media platforms. 
In 2021 a picture of Freeman and Charles Chirara, one of the three armed robbers gunned down by former detective Joseph Nemaisa during a Chadcombe shoot-out circulated on social media. The shootout occurred soon after the release of Freeman’s album “Robbery”, prompting detectives from the CID Homicide Section to summon him (Freeman) in for questioning to explain his association with the criminals.
Freeman said that he knew Chirara, who he said was his fan and voluntary show bouncer, but didn’t know that he was a robber. In the latest incident, Machingura (44) was allegedly part of a gang of criminals which also included three South African nationals.
In a recent statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that Machingura and a South African national Jabulani Ngobeni (45) were fatally shot during a shootout with detectives in Arcadia, Harare. Machingura was reportedly in Shamva monitoring the movement of their target before he was lured to Harare where the shootout ensued.

ZRP: Freeman Is Currently Being Interviewed By CID Homicide Over Links With Armed Robbery Suspects

Zimdancehall chanter Freeman suffered a major financial setback on Saturday morning after his Totoya Fortuner was crashed into a tree by an unknown person in Masvingo.
Freeman, whose real name is Energy Sylvester Chizanga, released a statement on Saturday expressing his frustration over the mishap.
He suggested that anti-progress spirits could be behind his misfortune. He wrote:

Around 5 am I woke up and went outside and found that my car wasn’t there. I went back and called my cousin who was with me in my room to ask him what happened and he said he just left his friend in the car.
We tried calling the friend’s phone and it was getting through but isiri kudairwa. He then answered after like 20 missed calls saying “Mkoma wangu ndiri pama1. I’m in shock I am kuroad inoenda kumasoja”.
Ipapo ipapo we went ikoko and he was’nt picking up his phone again. We started roaming around trying to look for him and tamutsvaga manually coz he wasn’t picking our calls again.
There were a couple of soldiers that were close by and they asked us if we were looking for a white Fortuner.
It hit me that something terrible had happened. Then they led us to an accident scene and it was my cousin’s friend who had taken my car and got involved in an accident.
The car was there, but he wasn’t there. We started looking for him and found him like 200m from the scene sleeping in the bushes and he was injured not that bad We thank God he is alive.
We rushed him to the hospital and he is in stable condition. We asked him ko wauchiendepi nhai Owen?
He could not respond because kwacho kwazvaitikira it’s out of town on a Dust road

Freeman's Toyota Fortuner Crashes Into A Tree

Zimdancehall artiste Freeman, real name Energy Sylvester Chizanga, has cancelled his tour to the United Kingdom on the eleventh hour
The musician was scheduled to stage shows in Manchester tomorrow (16 April) and in Birmingham on the 17th and 18th.
In a statement this Friday, Freeman said he was forced to cancel the tour due to travel logistics that could not be arranged in time for the show. He said:

It’s with a heavy heart we regret to inform our fans in England Freeman HKD &amp; HKD Band will not be present for Zim Independence Weekender which is scheduled for April 16th Manchester, April 17th Birmingham, and April 18th Birmingham.
Unfortunately, it is beyond our control, circumstances with our travel logistics and requirements have left us with no choice but to cancel our performance. Our travel documents were not returned to us on time to make it for the shows.
As HKD we thrive to bring you the best experience we can offer and we cannot do that without our full team on the ground.
We sincerely apologize to all our fans in England, sometimes things just don’t go the way you want. We hope soon we can be together.

Freeman Cancels UK Tour, Cites Travel Logistical Challenges

Zimdancehall musician, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nutty_O">Nutty O</a>, real name Carrington Simbarashe Chiwadzwa, is leading the 2022 PPC Zimbabwe Music Awards with seven nominations.
This year’s edition of the awards ceremony is set for 19 February in Harare. It is being held under the theme “Rhythm, Roots and Cultural Diversity”.
Nutty O released a 14-track album titled “Mustard Seed” with features from Ghana’s Stonebwoy, Jamaica’s Demarco and Kae Chap towards the end of 2021.
He was nominated in seven categories, namely the Best Album, Zim Dancehall, Best Music Video (Ndiwe), Best International Zimbabwean Artist, Best Male Artist, Song of the Year (Handipere Power) and Best Collaboration (Ngifuna Wena).
Freeman and Roki came second behind Nutty O, with 5 nominations each.
In 2021, Nutty topped the ZIMA nominations list with 5 nominations.

Nutty O, Freeman And Roki Dominate ZIMA Awards Nominations

A concert by Zimdancehall duo, Killer T and Freeman, came to a premature end in South Africa on Good Friday when the South African Police Service (SAPS) intervened and dispersed both artists and revellers.
The concert by the Zimbabwean chanters is among events impacted by a crackdown by authorities against revellers that flouted coronavirus (COVID- 19) regulations in neighbouring South Africa.
The show at the jam-packed Baseline, Newtown in Johannesburg was held amid inadequate sanitising, masks and social distancing.
The South African government heightened the crackdown against partying this past weekend to prevent a third wave of the COVID-19 in the country.
South Africa is the worst affected country by COVID-19 on the African continent and Gauteng, where Johannesburg is located, is the epicentre of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Killer T and Freeman rounded up their musical tour of South Africa with a performance on Saturday night in Kempton Park, east of Johannesburg.
Killer T performed from 8 PM to 10 PM while Freeman took over the stage until midnight.

Killer T, Freeman Concert Aborted For Breaking SA COVID-19 Rules

Zimdancehall artiste, Freeman( real name Energy Chizanga) is reportedly now fit to perform on stage after recovering from a head operation, Daily News reports.
One of his handlers Watson “Boss Watta” Kaselapanjila spoke to the publication and said Freeman was now fit to perform and fans would expect him to deliver and said:

Zimdancehall chanter, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Freeman" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Freeman</a>, has bemoaned a lack of unity among local artistes, saying such disunity is not good for the music industry.
Freeman lauded Nigerian artistes who he said are united as they are always endorsing each other while Zimbabweans “celebrate” when one of their own flops. Writing on microblogging site Twitter, he said:

Popular Zimdancehall artists <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Freeman">Freeman</a> (real name Energy Sylvester Chizanga) has dismissed news circulating on WhatsApp that he died in a car crash.

Zimdancehall musician Freeman was forced to abandon his performance on stage at Trojan Mine’s Mandimu Stadium in Bindura where he was closing the Copa Coca-Cola Under-15 boys’ soccer tournament at the weekend after violence erupted between a security guard and fans who were angry after a female fan was beaten for trying to get on stage.
Speaking to NewsDay, Rejoice Tanda and Munashe both narrated that violence broke out after a security guard beat up an identified female fan.

Freeman forced to abandon show after violence erupts

Harare Magistrate Joy Chikodzero convicted Zimdancehall musician Freeman, real name Energy Chizanga, of deliberately supplying false information to a public authority. She convicted Freeman on his own plea of guilty and fined him $50 or 30 days in prison.
This comes after the musician in July 2015, applied for a new passport and lied to the Registrar General’s Department that his passport had been stolen. In actual fact, the musician wanted a second passport as he had sent his first passport to the British Embassy for a visa application. The matter was discovered only after the British Visa expired and Freeman resubmitted the “lost” passport. The Embassy realised the anomaly and reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest.

Freeman fined $50 by Magistrate for lying that his passport was stolen

Hatimire Kusimbisa Dangerzone (HKD) music stable mates Sheltang and Freeman who parted ways two years ago have made amends and will soon be working together on a new album set for release in March.
Speaking to 263Chat Sheltang said:

Freeman and Sheltang back together, working on new album

Gospel musician, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Mathias_Mhere">Mathias Mhere</a> and Zimdancehall chanter, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Freeman">Freeman</a> will release an Oskid produced track “Gore Rino” on Monday.
This will be the first time the musicians will be collaborating.

Mathias Mhere & Freeman to release new song "Gore Rino"on Monday

Dancehall star <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Freeman" target="_blank">Freeman</a> has dismissed  social media rumours that he was arrested over the weekend.  The rumours said Freeman had been arrested in Kuwadzana because of links to Silent Killer.
Freeman said:

I was never arrested and I have never been convicted of any crime. I am currently in Mutare and I was never been in Kuwadzana on Saturday.
It’s the work of the devil, I had a successful show in Chipinge on Saturday and after the show I was escorted to my car by a police officer. Someone took a picture when I was with a police officer and circulated it on Facebook and WhatsApp.
