A 19-year-old man employed as a gardener in Kwekwe allegedly cut off his own manhood with a knife and consumed it.
According to a police memo dated September 18, from the Officer-in-Charge at Kwekwe Central to the Officer Commanding Police Kwekwe District, which was seen by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200032514/kwekwe-man-cuts-off-manhood-eats-it">NewsDay</a>, the man, identified as Panankosi Phiri, was employed at Priscah Saungweme’s home in Masasa, Kwekwe.
Saungweme, a 50-year-old self-employed woman from Masasa, reported the incident. Read the memo:

This memo serves to inform and put on record circumstances surrounding an incident of a man who seriously injured himself which occurred (in) Masasa, Kwekwe.

It further states that on Saturday at around 8 PM, Phiri exhibited signs of insanity and then took a knife and cut himself on both hands.
It is alleged that when he started bleeding profusely, Saungweme tried to help him, but she failed because he became violent. Read the memo:

He went on to completely cut off his (manhood) and wrapped it with bread then went on to eat it.

As he was cutting himself, Phiri allegedly called out the name of the informant’s 10-year-old granddaughter, Trinity (not her real name), referring to her as his wife.
Saungweme then phoned the police, who arrived at the scene and transported the victim to Kwekwe General Hospital for medical assistance.
Even while in his hospital bed, Phiri continued to call out for Trinity.
According to the memo, four days later, Constable Dlodlo from the Victim Friendly Unit called the informant and his granddaughter Trinity to the station for interviews, following up on the victim’s statements.
During the interviews, Trinity revealed that Phiri had previously raped her.
She was then taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for a medical examination.
Meanwhile, Phiri has been transferred to Gweru Provincial Hospital after his condition was assessed as serious.

A gardener from Bulawayo who lost four fingers when a hand grenade he was using as a key holder exploded on him is now appealing for assistance.
The man, Gidmore Kangwembe (47) who is admitted to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), said he can no longer fend for his family because of the injuries he sustained.
Kangwembe said he found the grenade on New Year’s Day when he was on a piece job in Burnside where he was tasked with cutting grass.
He said when he saw the grenade, he didn’t realise that it was a dangerous object. He said he used it as a key holder. Said Kangwembe:

It was on a Sunday and I went to this other yard for a piece job and I was with a friend of mine. While cutting grass I then picked this thing that I didn’t know.
I asked my friend what it was but he couldn’t provide an answer too. We both didn’t suspect that it could be dangerous.
I then took it and used it as my key holder up until Thursday at around 3 PM when I decided to check what exactly it was.
While still investigating to find out what it could be it exploded and shredded four fingers from my right hand.

Kangwembe, a father to four, fears his children were going to suffer as his job was the only source of income for his family. He said:

I am a father of four, my wife is not working. Now that I’m still in hospital no one is providing for my family and with the condition I am in right now I don’t know when I’m going to be discharged, let alone start working with one hand hence my appeal to well-wishers to help me and my family. Gardener Who Lost 4 Fingers To "Keyholder" Grenade Appeals For Assistance

A 30-year-old Harare gardener recently appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court charged with stealing US$70 000 and R95 000 in cash from his employer.
The suspect, Tatenda Ngirazi, allegedly used some of the money to buy a Toyota Ipsum.
He appeared before magistrate Yeukai Dzuda, who remanded him in custody to 22 February for bail application.
Ngirazi was employed as a gardener and his suspected accomplice in committing the crime, Taurai Shonhiwa, was employed as a maid at a private home in Borrowdale.
Prosecutors told the court that sometime in January 2020, the complainant Shadreck Zvarivadza left the money in a safe in his bedroom.
Between January 2020 and February 2022, Ngirazi allegedly gained access to the bedroom and stole the money but left his hat at the scene.
Zvarivadza only became aware that his money was missing when he wanted to use it on 4 February.
On being questioned, Ngirazi admitted to stealing the money and implicated Shonhiwa.
Zvarivadza effected a citizen’s arrest and recovered the vehicle which Ngirazi had bought using the money.
