Former Dynamos head coach Genesis Mangombe has joined ambitious Northern Region Soccer League side Scottland Football Club, barely a day after his dismissal from the Glamour Boys.
Reports suggest Mangombe was fired following Dynamos’ 1-1 draw against Bulawayo Chiefs on Sunday. However, the club claimed Mangombe had resigned.

Scottland, owned by gold dealer Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya, announced on Tuesday that Mangombe had joined them as the new head coach, replacing William Nyasulu who has been demoted to assistant.
Scottland FC Secretary General Fortune Bgwoni confirmed the club’s new technical setup in a statement. He said:

Greetings to you all. Thank you all for coming on such short notice. As you are all aware, for the Northern Region Soccer technical qualifications we have brought on board Genesis Mangombe. He is to take on the position of Head Coach, with immediate effect.

After attending a farewell visit at the Dynamos training session on Tuesday morning, former coach Genesis Mangombe reportedly surrendered the Ford Everest vehicle he had been using. He then promptly joined Scotland FC, where he was provided with a new vehicle.

Dynamos Football Club head coach, Genesis Mangombe, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
Mangombe’s departure follows growing pressure from a section of the club’s fanbase who have been calling for his ouster for some time, though board chairman Bernard Marriot had steadfastly supported the coach.
Dynamos currently sit in 7th place on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table with 30 points from 22 games played so far this season. They are 13 points behind league leaders Simba Bhora.
In a statement, Dynamos Executive Chairman Moses Maunganidze expressed gratitude to Mangombe for his service and the achievements the club attained during his tenure, which included winning the Chibuku Super Cup and Independence Cup.
The club has appointed assistant coach Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe as the acting head coach until further notice. Said Maunganidze:

Dynamos Football Club board chairman Bernard Marriot-Lusengo says the club fully supports head coach Genesis Mangombe despite a section of the fanbase demanding his sacking due to poor results.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/dynamos-brace-for-africa-return/">The Herald</a>, Marriot, who is the team’s majority shareholder, said Mangombe has not failed as the team is only 11 points behind Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) leaders FC Platinum. He said:

Mangombe hasn’t faltered yet. The league is very competitive and if you look at where we are on the log, you will see that he is doing well.
The coach needs support and we are still behind him as the board.
Dynamos are only 11 points off the top with more than 17 games still to be played. So, we need to be behind the coach.
His potential is beyond doubt and we believe with solid support, he can do well.

Last month, a section of the club’s fans staged a protest at Rufaro Stadium calling for Mangombe’s ouster despite the team beating Arenel Movers 2-1.
The fans waved professionally printed placards well before the match demanding that Mangombe leaves.
Some of the messages on the placards read “12 games, 2 wins” and “Taneta kurova dzakabva kuD1”.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Mangombe said he has not failed and vowed to keep coaching the team. He said:

Meanwhile, Dynamos is languishing in 7th position on the PSL table with 20 points, 11 behind leaders FC Platinum, after matchday 15.
Interestingly, DeMbare has only beaten Bikita Minerals, TelOne, Arenel Movers, and Chegutu Pirates, four clubs that were promoted to the PSL from Division One ahead of the 2024 season.

Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe has criticised a section of the club’s fans who staged a protest at Rufaro Stadium on Thursday despite leading the team to a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League win against Arenel Movers.
DeMbare’s 2-1 victory over Arenel yesterday was the club’s third win of the 2024 season, albeit all three wins came against clubs that were playing in Division One leagues last season.

Dynamos have only managed 3 wins in 13 matches, the wins coming against newly-promoted sides, Bikita Minerals, TelOne, and Arenel Movers. The club has registered 7 draws and 2 losses.
Dynamos will likely get their fourth win when the PSL rules on their abandoned match against another promoted side, Chegutu Pirates.
The match was abandoned just after DeMbare had scored the match’s only goal in second-half stoppage time.
DeMbare are probably out of the title race as they are languishing in 10th position on the log with 16 points, 10 points behind log leaders Manica Diamonds.
Despite the challenges, there’s a silver lining—if the Glamour Boys secure the 3 points from the Chegutu Pirates match, they’ll climb to 6th place, trailing Highlanders, Chicken Inn, and Simba Bhora by just 2 points—all of whom are currently tied at 21 points.

Dynamos Fans Demand Genesis Mangombe's Ouster

Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe has said Chegutu Pirates supporters should learn to accept the referees’ decisions, saying “their team is coming from Division One” therefore some of them may feel some calls by referees in the topflight are too harsh.
This comes after the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Chegutu Pirates versus Dynamos match at Baobab Stadium was abandoned in the 97th minute on Thursday, 25 April.
Chegutu Pirates fans hurled objects onto the pitch and the club’s players refused to restart the game after DeMbare had scored the winner deep into stoppage time.
The home team’s players and fans were protesting Donald Dzvinyai’s fortuitous goal arguing the ball did not cross the line.
However, videos suggested that the Chegutu Pirates defender was behind the goal line when he headed the ball in a desperate attempt to clear their lines.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Mangombe insisted that the referees were right in awarding the goal. He said:

Overall, I am happy with the performance of the boys. They played at their level best, and they created a lot of chances.
Well, the referees are human beings, but I thought they missed one penalty. That shot from Valentine (Kadonzvo), maybe from where I was sitting I didn’t see it clearly, but I thought it was a goal, but the referees have the final decision. I think it was a goal and I don’t know why they are saying it’s not a goal.
I think hooliganism is not good for our football. If you are supporting your team, you have to support decisions by the referees, not to come and cause havoc by throwing stones on the pitch.
The supporters need to understand that their team is coming from Division One and some of the decisions may seem harsh.
If it is not in your favour, you may think it’s not a goal, but if you look at the incident you will see that it is a clear goal.

Disputes such as happened at Baobab Stadium yesterday can be completely eradicated if the local premiership embraces goal-line technology.
There is less room for argument, as the system provides a clear verdict on whether the ball crossed the line.
Goal-line technology eliminates human error and provides objective evidence to determine whether a goal has been scored.

"PSL Is Not Division One", Mangombe Tells Chegutu Pirates Fans

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee (NC) says it will announce the coach for the senior men’s football team (the Warriors) in the coming weeks, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200022015/mangombe-set-for-warriors-job">NewsDay</a>.
Speaking at a press conference held at the ZIFA offices in Milton Park, Harare on Friday, 12 January, ZIFA NC chairperson Lincoln Mutasa said that they are nearing completion of the recruitment process.
Mutasa, who was flanked by his deputy Cynthia Malaba and the association secretary general Yvonne Mapika Manwa, said:

We know that stakeholders are eagerly waiting for the announcement of the coaches.
The good news is that we are nearing completion of the recruitment process and the names will be revealed in the next few weeks.
</blockquote>
Mutasa said that they picked the names of the coaches from a pool of people who applied last time.
The Warriors have been without a coach since the end of December 2023 after the ZIFA NC decided against renewing Baltemar Brito’s contract.
The Brazilian was appointed national team coach in September last year on a short-term deal that ran concurrently with his contract with Highlanders, due to work permit issues.
Brito presided over two World Cup Qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria in November, picking up two points.
His second assistant, Genesis Mangombe, who is Dynamos’ head coach, is rumoured to be ZIFA NC’s preferred choice to succeed Brito.
NewsDay reported sources as saying Mangombe has been selected for continuity’s sake.
The immediate task of the yet-to-be-named Warriors coach will be to prepare a team for World Cup qualifiers in June.

ZIFA NC To Announce New Warriors Coach In The Next Few Weeks - Mutasa

Dynamos are reportedly preparing a three-year contract for head coach <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Genesis_Mangombe">Genesis Mangombe</a> and transfer funds to improve the squad ahead of the 2024 season.
This comes after Mangombe guided Dynamos to their first final in eight years when they defeated city rivals CAPS United 2-0 in a Chibuku Super Cup semi-final.
The Glamour Boys will now meet Ngezi Platinum Stars in the final at Baobab Stadium on 03 December.
Mangombe has been in charge on an interim basis since taking over from Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa on 08 August 2023.
Dynamos vice chairperson Vincent Chawonza recently told <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/dembare-reward-mangombe">The Sunday Mail</a> that the club executive was satisfied with what Mangombe has achieved so far. Said Chawonza:

Mangombe has done enough to win our trust as the executive. Even if we are to lose both the Chibuku Super Cup and the league championship, we will still be satisfied. Mangombe has surprised us a lot.
</blockquote>
The former Yadah coach succeeded Maruwa after Match Day 18 and has been in charge of 11 league games. He has six wins, two draws and three losses.
The Chipinge-born gaffer has picked up 20 points out of a possible 33, which translates to a 61 percent success rate.
Mangombe has posted some huge results — including triumphs over Highlanders, Ngezi Platinum Stars and CAPS United in the league — before knocking FC Platinum and Makepekepe out of the Chibuku Super Cup. Added Chawonza:

The fact that we are in the final after beating giants FC Platinum and CAPS United shows us that we are already starting to dominate.
It’s happening and we are already seeing some good signs. If we continue on this trajectory, then, we will definitely dominate the league in the near future.

Chawonza defended the club’s decision to fire Jompano after a string of poor performances. He said:
<blockquote>
We could see that we had certain people on board who could not help us achieve what we wanted.
It was not really about personalities or being vindictive, we just had to make difficult decisions.
I thought that the changes we made would bring results next year, but then transformation has come pretty much earlier.
When we appointed Mangombe, we were now building for the following season and, as such, we were not going to corner him to win us something, but he has already surprised us.
Within such a short space of time, he has done wonders.

Long-serving team manager Richard Chihoro and assistant coach Murape Murape were fired soon after Maruwa was axed.
Desmond Mhene was appointed acting team manager, while Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe bounced back as assistant coach.
With only four matches remaining before the end of the 2023 season, Ngezi Platinum Stars lead the race with 57 points, DeMbare in second, Manica Diamonds in third place, and fourth-placed FC Platinum are all tied on 50 points each. Highlanders, in fifth place, have 49 points.
DeMbare take on defending champions FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium this Wednesday knowing that a win for them, and a loss for Ngezi Platinum Stars (versus Sheasham) who lost 1-0 to Hwange over the weekend, will narrow the gap to only four points.
