A whirlwind reportedly entered a classroom at Zhomba Secondary School in Gokwe North District, disrupting over 30 pupils writing their Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) Combined Science Paper 1. The incident occurred last week.
The whirlwind swept away a candidate’s answer sheet, which was later found 500 meters from the classroom.
Gokwe North District Schools Inspector Douglas Samunyaka confirmed the incident to <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/whirlwind-blows-away-gokwe-pupils-zimsec-answer-sheet/">The Mirror</a>.
He said the affected pupil continued the exam and was impacted because he was seated by an open window. Said Samunyaka:

It is true that wind blew away a student’s answer sheet during an exam yesterday. The student was seated near the window that is why he was affected and it was nothing serious.
They managed to find the answer sheet about 500 metres from the classroom and the student continued with exam.

Clare Katiyo, the Services Administrator at Gokwe South District Hospital, faces serious allegations of misconduct and mismanagement. According to sources within the hospital, Clare Katiyo supposedly mishandled three hospital vehicles, leading to severe damages that required towing them back from service. It is claimed that she utilises political influence to dictate hospital operations, allegedly causing staff conflicts and even the resignation of a District Medical Officer.
Accusations against her include document forgery, misappropriation of funds intended for patient care, hindering essential medical equipment installations, and falsifying records of non-existent vehicles for financial gain. Sources told Pindula News that despite being found guilty of misconduct in two cases this year, determinations were allegedly overturned by ZANU-PF officials. A source said on condition of anonymity:

The first case involved forging documents and diverting funds intended for purchasing mealie meal for patients to buy drinks for a ZANU-PF gathering.
In the second case, she was overwhelmingly found guilty of gross misconduct, including refusing a South African donor’s installation of an autoclaving machine, being difficult to work with in the district health establishment (DHE), failing to adequately maintain vehicles, and submitting fake claims for ghost vehicles participating in programs (non-existent vehicles purportedly partaking in events, with funds collected). All these infractions are well-documented.

Previously embroiled in misconduct issues at Mberengwa Hospital, Katiyo faced accusations of denying ambulance services which reportedly resulted in patient fatalities. Allegations of boasting connections to high-ranking ZANU-PF officials and involvement in the removal of a Gokwe South CIO official have also surfaced. Gokwe South District Hospital's Administrator Accused Of Misconduct, Maladministration

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged drivers to avoid speeding and exercise caution when travelling on the country’s roads.
The call comes in the wake of a tragic road traffic accident in Gokwe that claimed five lives and left nine other people injured.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 11, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the accident occurred around 3:10 PM at the four-kilometre mark along the Gokwe-Siabuwa Road.
A Nissan Sylphy vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a Nissan Ad Van, resulting in the deaths of five people and injuries to nine others.
Commissioner Nyathi has released the names of the victims who were killed in the accident. The victims were identified by their next of kin as listed:

The police in Zimbabwe are warning drivers to be careful and not drive too fast. There was a very sad accident in Gokwe where five people died and nine got hurt. The crash happened on the Gokwe-Siabuwa Road. Two cars crashed into each other. The police released the names of the people who died in the accident. They were Alexio Taruona, Gilson Taruona, Marvellous Manyepa, Mike Madende, and Wanayi Marumisa. It is very important to drive safely on the roads to prevent accidents like this.

Police Release Names Of Victims Of Gokwe Accident

In Gokwe, Midlands Province, a village head reportedly mobilised villagers to prevent police officers from arresting his wife and two other individuals who were illegally cultivating mbanje (dagga/marijuana).
According to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/village-head-mobilises-against-cops/">The Herald</a>, the police had to resort to firing warning shots to disperse the crowd and apprehend Brian Kuruwa (36), Talkmore Muzondiwa (30), and Shylet Magigani (32) – all from Kuruwa Village under Chief Nemangwe’s jurisdiction. The trio had been illegally growing dagga along the banks of the Svisvi River.
The three accused persons have since appeared before a Gokwe magistrate, who convicted them of illegal marijuana cultivation and possession.
Kuruwa was sentenced to a total of four years imprisonment, with one year suspended on the condition of good behaviour.
Muzondiwa received a 24-month prison term, with eight months suspended, while Magigani was sentenced to three years’ incarceration.
The court was informed that during the arrest operation, Muzondiwa’s husband, Joseph Kuruwa (43), who serves as the village head, managed to flee from his home and subsequently mobilized other villagers to confront the police.
In response, the law enforcement officers were forced to fire warning shots to subdue the unruly crowd and apprehend the suspects.
Officer Commanding Midlands Police (Operations), Assistant Commissioner Martin Matambo told The Herald that police recovered 6,500 plants and 170kg of processed dagga.
He said police were alerted that some villagers were dealing in dangerous drugs and cultivating dagga in places along Svisvi River banks which are not easily accessible since it is mountainous.
Police officers went there and found Kuruwa busy watering the dagga plot. Said Asst. Comm. Matambo:

He was arrested and 67 plants of dagga were uprooted from his plot. Subsequent investigations led the police to Muzondiwa’s residence where they recovered a sack of dried dagga.

He said Magigani was also found at her homestead where they recovered three sacks of dagga from her bedroom hut.
It remains unclear whether the village head, Joseph Kuruwa, was arrested for his actions. However, his alleged mobilisation of villagers to interfere with the police operation is likely to result in him facing charges of obstructing the course of justice, as defined under Section 184 of Zimbabwe’s Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

Village Head Mobilises Villagers Against Police Officers

A 63-year-old man from Kana, Gokwe South District in Midlands Province, was found murdered hours after he had demanded lobola from his son-in-law.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said Odent Matikiti was found dead with a swelling on the left ear near Kana Primary School.
He was last seen arguing with his son-in-law, Stanley Nkomo while the two were drinking beer.
It is alleged that the two quarrelled after Matikiti had demanded lobola from his son-in-law. Police said:

Police in Gokwe are investigating a case of murder in which Odent Matikiti (63) was found dead with swelling on the left ear near Kana Primary School.
The victim was last seen having an argument with his son-in-law, Stanley Nkomo during a beer-drinking spree. The victim had demanded lobola from the suspect.

This disturbing incident comes barely two days after a 19-year-old man from Nyawiswa village appeared before the Karoi Magistrates’ Court, charged with stock theft. He had stolen a cow and used it to pay lobola for his bride.
Locky Chigwengwe stole a black cow and used it to pay lobola to his father-in-law Ian Wamiridza. He was arrested for stock theft, convicted and sentenced to 9 years imprisonment.

Gokwe Man (63) Killed For Demanding Lobola

A 23-year-old woman from Gokwe has been found guilty of selling her baby, just two days after giving birth.
According to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/woman-guilty-of-selling-two-day-old-baby-in-sa/">H-Metro</a>, the woman pleaded guilty before a Harare Magistrate to contravening the Trafficking in Persons Act.
She was expected back in court this Tuesday, 14 May, for sentencing.
The woman claimed that her child had died shortly after being born but it later emerged that she had connived with another woman, to sell her baby, just two days after delivering the child.
Prosecutors told the court that the accused person gave birth in Johannesburg, South Africa and sold her son to her accomplice on June 26, 2023.
Sometime in October 2023, her accomplice found a way to smuggle the infant into Zimbabwe.
The accomplice was arrested on November 27 2023, following a tip-off and the infant was subsequently placed under the care of the Department of Social Welfare.
When the accused person learnt of her accomplice’s arrest, she returned home on December 12 2023, to claim her son back.
She was arrested as her claim was suspicious because she had declared her infant, dead a few days after giving birth.

Zimbabwean Woman Sells Her Two-day Old Baby In South  Africa

Two people died and seventeen others were injured when a kombi they were travelling in was involved in an accident in Gokwe on Friday evening.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the Toyota Hiace, which had 19 passengers on board veered off the road before overturning and landing on its right side along a gravel road near Mavhulele Village, Gokwe South District, Midlands Province. The ZRP said:

The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident in which two people were killed whilst 17 others were injured when a Toyota Hiace vehicle with 19 passengers on board veered off the road before overturning and landing on its right side on 03/05/24 at around 1700 hours along an unnamed gravel road near Mavhulele Village, Gokwe South. The bodies of the victims were taken to Gokwe South District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital.

On Friday last week, 16 people died in Beatrice when a kombi, a Sprinter, they were travelling in was involved in a head-on-collision with a truck.
The passengers were members of Angels Family Apostolic Church who were on their way to Makumumavi Shrine, Chivhu, and most of them were from Epworth, Harare.

Two People Killed In Gokwe Kombi Accident

A tragic incident occurred in Gokwe, where a family of three was swept away by a flooded river when their canoe capsized. The incident happened on January 21 at around 7 pm as Simbarashe Kanyonde (27), his wife Lucia Dzimba (23), and their seven-day-old baby girl were trying to reach Chidamoyo Hospital for medical help for their sick baby.
When they arrived at the Sanyati River, they entered a canoe to cross to the other side. Unfortunately, the canoe overturned in the middle of the river, and the family was carried away by the strong current. Lucia Dzimba, who had her baby strapped to her back, was found by villagers about 700 meters downstream. Tragically, the husband, Simbarashe Kanyonde, is still missing, and a search operation is underway to find him.
The Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident and stated that the bodies of Lucia Dzimba and her baby were taken to Gokwe North District Hospital mortuary, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200022339/family-swept-away-by-flooded-sanyati-river">NewsDay</a> reported.
Damaging Rainy Season 
The 2023-24 rainy season in Zimbabwe has so far caused significant damage across the country. In Budiriro, 90 families had their houses flooded on December 26, 2023, due to incessant rains. This is not the first time Budiriro residents have faced flooding, as similar incidents have occurred since 2020. The floods affected homes built on a wetland along the Marimba River, as well as other high-density suburbs and low-lying areas in Zimbabwe. The floods were devastating, causing havoc to homes and belongings and tragically resulting in the death of a six-year-old child. Many residents were displaced, with over 100 families forced to evacuate their homes and seek shelter in temporary accommodations. The loss of their homes and possessions left them in distress, their lives profoundly impacted by the floods.
The heavy rains and floods also impacted other provinces in Zimbabwe, resulting in deaths, injuries, and property and infrastructure damage. The Department of Civil Protection reported various incidents, including collapsed dwellings, damaged houses, and blown-off roofs in different districts. The public has been urged to exercise caution and avoid crossing flooded rivers and bridges.

Family Swept Away In Tragic Canoe Incident Amid Zimbabwe's Damaging Rainy Season

The police in Gokwe have arrested Thomas Muzenda, a 38-year-old artisanal miner from Village 17 Mupukuta, Chireya Gokwe North for murdering his one-year-old daughter for ritual purposes. Muzenda was arrested on August 2, 2023.
A police report seen by Pindula News says Muzenda was taken into custody in connection with the callous murder of his 1-year-old daughter, Nenyasha Muzenda, who had been reported missing.
Muzenda confessed to the crime revealing to the police that he had killed his daughter with a knife for ritual purposes. Allegedly seeking to enhance his mining activities, Muzenda an artisanal miner had consulted a traditional healer known only as Dhumba. The police were able to recover the remains of the victim from a disused well located at Zenda Mining area in Gokwe North. Reads the police report:

On 02/08/23, Police in Gokwe arrested an artisanal miner, Thomas Muzenda (38) of Village 17 Mupukuta, Chireya Gokwe North, in connection with the callous murder of his daughter, Nenyasha Muzenda (1 year 2 months), who had been reported missing. The suspect confessed to the police that he killed his daughter with a knife for ritual purposes to allegedly boost his mining activities after approaching a traditional healer only identified as Dhumba. Police have since recovered the remains of the victim from a disused well at Zenda Mining area, Gokwe North.

Ritual killings in Zimbabwe are a serious concern, involving intentional murders for the purpose of using body parts in rituals. These acts, driven by beliefs and superstitions, target men, women, and children. Despite concerted efforts by various stakeholders including the government, law enforcement agents, civil society and human rights organizations, these crimes persist.

Gokwe Police Arrest Miner For Ritualistic Murder Of One-Year-Old Daughter

Police in Gokwe South District have banned a Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) rally that was scheduled to take place at Nyaradza Grounds on 13 July 2023.
The ban comes barely hours after Police General Headquarters (PGHQ) issued an order instructing provincial commanders to clear rallies by opposition parties to make the upcoming general elections appear free and fair.
In banning the CCC rally, ZRP Officer Commanding Gokwe District, Superintendent A. Zimbili said there will be other political activities near the venue.
This means that the activities by other political parties have been given the green light to go ahead but only CCC cannot hold its rally.
In a letter dated July 10 addressed to CCC provincial administrator, Joseph Madyegwayi, Superintendent Zimbili said:

Kindly be informed that on the said date there will be political activities by other political parties, including yours at CMB (Cotton Marketing Board) Open Space opposite Madzore Bottle Store, Gokwe South which (have potential to) strain our human resources base in the event of any public disorder…

CCC national spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere confirmed the latest development. She tweeted:

Our Gokwe South rally has been banned by [the Police] because ZANU PF is scared of [CCC]! 6 rallies were banned over a one-week period.
Chivi, Chiredzi Central, Chikombedzi, Mazowe Central, Bindura and Gokwe South. ZANU PF can never win a free and fair election in Zimbabwe!

In 2018, the then main opposition party, MDC Alliance, was allowed to campaign without hindrance but its successor, CCC has been blocked from holding rallies dozens of times since its formation over a year ago.
On 25 February 2022, ZRP banned a CCC rally in Gokwe that was to be addressed by the party’s leader Nelson Chamisa.
The letter was written by the Officer-In-Charge Gokwe District, Chief Superintendent T Chikono, to the Organising Secretary CCC Gokwe Central Constituency, Agnes Limbani Jumo, and dated 25 February. It read in part:

SUBJECT: PROHIBITION NOTICE FOR A BY-ELECTION CAMPAIGN LAUNCH
It is your submission that you intend to conduct a by-election campaign launch rally at Open Space opposite Runganga Service Station, Gokwe South on the 26th day of February 2022 from 1000 hours to 1700 hours.
Your notification has been noted and this office does have reservations due to the following:
a) Reference to our discussion conducted on the 23rd day of February 2022 at Officer Commanding Police, Gokwe District office and in accordance to Section 8[3] of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act, Chapter 11:23, in which I invited you in order to discuss the amendment of the contents of your convening notice in good faith.
b) I Indicated that I have received credible information that there is a threat that the proposed by-election campaign launch rally will result in serious disruption of vehicular or pedestrian traffic, injury to participants attending the rally or other person, or extensive damage to property or public disorder since there shall also be a ZANU PF rally in Kwekwe on the same day and times since participants are going to utilise the same Kwekwe-Gokwe highway.
c) The police will not be able to provide adequate protection for the persons participating in the by-elections campaign launch since the police officers have been deployed to cover the star rally in Kwekwe District.
d) Based on the above so as to ensure the prevention of injury to persons or damage to property and in accordance with the provisions of Section 8[9] of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act, Chapter 11:23, I have issued a prohibition notice and allowed you to defer your by-elections campaign launch to another date.

Police Block CCC From Holding Campaign Rally In Gokwe, Again

A 16-year-old girl from Gokwe who was allegedly abducted by suspected ZANU PF supporters was dumped in Kadoma.
Chairmaine Chiremba, a learner at Njelele High School, was kidnapped in the early hours of Wednesday according to her father Christopher.
Christopher told the <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local-news/article/200009575/abducted-gokwe-girl-dumped-in-kadoma">Southern Eye</a> that Chairmaine was at Kadoma Police Station. He said:

I am currently getting information that she is housed at Kadoma police and is safe.
She was dumped along the highway by a black (Toyota) Wish car with no number plates.
She is still in custody at Kadoma Police Station and they said they are making arrangements to ferry her to Gokwe centre.
</blockquote>
He said they realised Charmaine was missing when her mother went to wake her up to prepare for school. 
Her mother found blood stains on the veranda of their bedroom and a note written ‘usivhotela ZANU PF mwana tatora’.
The note was written in a Shona dialect spoken in Gokwe, translated to “you should vote for ZANU PF, we have taken the child”.
Chiremba suspects his child was targeted because, in 2013, his wife contested for councillor under the MDC-T banner and lost. He added:

Abducted Gokwe Girl (16) Found In Kadoma

A 16-year-old girl from Gokwe went missing on Wednesday and her parents suspect she was abducted by ZANU PF supporters.
Christopher Chiremba told <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/girl-16-gone-missing-parents-suspect-abducted-by-zanu-pf-supporters/">ZimLive</a> that his daughter Charmaine Chiremba, a Form Three learner at Njelele High School, went missing in the early hours of Wednesday. He said:

We need assistance to look for our 16-year-old daughter Charmaine Else Chiremba.
On Wednesday morning, we heard footsteps outside our house.
I went to investigate and saw Charmaine and her sister coming from the toilet and I went back to sleep.

He said they realised Charmaine was missing when her mother went to wake her up to prepare for school. Said Chiremba:

She found blood stains on the veranda of their bedroom and a note written ‘usivhotela ZANU PF mwana tatora’.
The note was written in a Shona dialect spoken in Gokwe, translated to “you should vote for ZANU PF, we have taken the child.

Chiremba said they reported the case to the police and later conducted a search with some community members.
He said the search party found the girl’s blouse thrown on the ground a few metres from the house.
Chiremba suspects his child was targeted because, in 2013, his wife contested for councillor under the MDC-T banner and lost. He added:

Ever since then, we have stayed away from politics. We even voted in the recent ZANU PF primary elections. I am not sure why they would target my family.

ZRP spokesperson in Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko referred ZimLive to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who said he was yet to be briefed on the case.

Gokwe Girl (16) Gone Missing, Parents Fear She Was Abducted By ZANU PF Supporters

ZANU PF supporters who were allegedly assaulted and injured by CCC activists in Gokwe North on Sunday, 12 February, had tried to disrupt the opposition party’s meeting according to an official.
According to <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2023/02/12/znu-pf-supporters-attacked-by-ccc-members-in-gokwe/">ZBC News</a>, the ZANU PF supporters were attacked at Mtora Growth Point, Gokwe-Nembudziya. 
The injured ZANU PF supporters were ferried to Gokwe North District Hospital for medical attention.
Government spokesperson Ndavaningi Mangwana <a href="https://twitter.com/nickmangwana/status/1624821251901476865">identified</a> those who were injured as ZANU PF Secretary for Production Shylet Hatina and District chairperson Temba Motsi.
The ruling party immediately condemned the attack which it blamed on the Citizens’ Coalition for Change.
However, responding to a tweet by ZANU PF Director of Information and Publicity, Tafadzwa Mugwadi, which he has since deleted, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said police had to intervene to protect their supporters from the ZANU PF intruders. <a href="https://twitter.com/advocatemahere/status/1625123087258640390">She said</a>:

Be honest. [ZANU PF] thugs tried to violently gain entry into the venue we booked for a rally which was cleared by [the Police].
At least 5 of our security personnel were injured trying to keep the peace.
ZRP had to disperse your members cause we had the legal right to be there.

Mahere also shared a letter from the police authorising CCC to conduct the rally where ZANU PF activists were reportedly assaulted.
The letter, which was addressed to the CCC Provincial Elections Officer Chengetai Dzikamunhenga, by the Officer Commanding Gokwe District, Chief Superintendent P. Makondo, reads in part:

NOTIFICATION TO CONDUCT A CAMPAIGN RALLY.
The above subject matter is pertinent and this office acknowledges receipt of your letter dated the 7th day of February 2023.
It is your submission that you intend to hold a campaign rally at Nembudzia Government School Community Grounds, Gokwe North on the 12th of February 2023, from 0900 hours to 1600 hours.
Your notification has been noted and this office does not have any reservations subject to the following;-
a) You adhere to the stated date, times and venue applied for. Should you wish to make any changes, you shall have to re-notify.
b) The provisions of Section 7 of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act, Chapter 11:23 will be evoked if any of the conditions is violated. 
c) You ensure that all proceedings are done within the confines of your mandate.
d) You adhere with due regards to the COVID-19 guidelines of ensuring enforcement on wearing of face masks, temperature screening and observing social distancing.

"ZANU PF Supporters Assaulted In Gokwe Had Stormed CCC Meeting"

Several ZANU PF supporters were allegedly assaulted and seriously injured by suspected CCC activists at Mtora Growth Point, Gokwe-Nembudziya, on Sunday, 12 February.
According to <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2023/02/12/znu-pf-supporters-attacked-by-ccc-members-in-gokwe/">ZBC News</a>, the injured ZANU PF supporters were ferried to Gokwe North District Hospital for medical attention.
The ZANU PF members were reportedly attending a voter registration mobilisation and awareness meeting when they attacked.
The ruling party has condemned the attack which it blamed on the Citizens’ Coalition for Change. ZANU PF <a href="https://twitter.com/ZANUPF_Official/status/1624829585803051008">tweeted</a>:

We condemn in strongest terms, the violence meted out against our supporters in Gokwe by Mr. Chamisa’s CCC hooligans. That has no place in our society.

Police were yet to issue a statement, but reports indicate that one person has been arrested.

ZANU PF Members Attacked By Suspected CCC Activists In Gokwe

Zumba Primary School head and some teachers have reportedly fled from the institution located in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gokwe">Gokwe</a>, Midlands province after alleged goblins allegedly attacked them on several occasions. 
The school has been suffering recurrent attacks from the goblins for almost a year, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200005598/teachers-head-flee-as-goblins-terrorise-school">NewsDay</a> Reported.
Five female pupils were allegedly attacked by the creatures before schools closed. A villager told NewsDay:

Just before schools closed, the goblins attacked five or six girls on the same day.
 The headmaster ran away after the incident. Some teachers have also left the school. I don’t know if they are going to come back when schools open.

Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Taungana_Ndoro">Taungana Ndoro</a> said there is nothing the ministry could do. He told NewsDay:

We can’t comment on a witchcraft issue. The ministry can’t do anything about it. Talk to chiefs, they will assist you.

He said it was important to engage “someone who knows how to handle goblins.” 
Kandiero said either the owners of the school or the people who are allegedly being attacked must be the ones who initiate the exorcising process.

School Head, Teachers Flee From School After Being "Attacked By Goblins"

A bolt of lightning struck and killed 18 cattle worth US$7 000 on Sunday in Chief Chireya’s area in Gokwe North District.
One of the two herders who were tending the cattle in the veld was struck by lightning and thrown several metres away but survived.
The other one almost suffocated after one of the animals, which was struck by lightning fell on top of him.
Gokwe North district development co-ordinator (DDC) Martin Musakanda confirmed the incident.
He said the cattle belonged to Nyasha Chivaviro, Richard Kapfumo and his brother, Svorai Kapfumo.
Chivaviro lost 10 cattle, Kapfumo lost 5, while all of Svorai Kapfumo’s three cattle were fatally struck by the lightning. Said Musakanda:

I can confirm that we received a report pertaining to a disaster that hit three farmers in Madzivazvido Ward 3 under Chief Chireya in Gokwe North District.
The farmers lost a total of 18 cattle after they were struck by a bolt of lightning.
Madzivazvido is a farming area under Chief Chireya. The area was hit by severe thunderstorms which caused the death of the 18 cattle.
One of the herd boys had to be pulled from under the cow, which had been struck by lightning while the other one was thrown several metres away.
Both herd boys did not sustain any injuries.

Musakanda said the District Civil Protection Unit (CPU) committee visited the farmers for assessment and consolation.
He said the Veterinary Services Department also advised the farmers on the proper disposal methods of the carcasses, which entailed burning and burying them.
Gokwe-Kabuyuni MP, Spencer Tshuma (ZANU PF) said in total, 20 cattle were struck by lightning and only two survived. He said:

They were coming from the pastures when it started raining, and they decided to drive the cattle home.

Lightning Bolt Kills 18 Cattle In Gokwe

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has said it condemns political violence in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gutu">Gutu</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Masvingo_Province">Masvingo</a> which it said is being perpetrated by members of the ruling ZANU PF.
The party said it will remain focused on its goal to win the 2023 elections, <a href="https://tellzim.com/political-violence-rears-ugly-head-in-gutu/">TellZim</a> reported citing CCC spokesperson, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Fadzayi_Mahere">Fadzayi Mahere</a>. She is cited as saying:

No amount of panic and lawlessness by Zanu PF will get in the way of political change whose time has come. We condemn the escalation of political violence in Gutu that is being perpetrated by Zanu PF.
We remain focused on our task of registering citizens to vote in their millions so we win big in 2023. We have assembled peace and security teams to protect our members. Gutu and neighbouring communities remain defiant and are ready to do whatever it takes to win Zimbabwe for change.

<h2>Some context:</h2>
It is alleged that members of the ruling ZANU PF in Gutu North and Central constituencies are attacking individuals believed to be opposition party supporters.
Teachers at Machingambi Secondary School were on November 22, 2022, also subjected to alleged victimization at the hands of Zanu PF’s Gutu District Coordinating Committee (DCC) vice chairperson identified as Musara after participating in a data collection exercise on behalf of Australia-based academic Professor Felix Mavhondo, according to TellZim.
Musara allegedly accused teachers at the school of working for opposition political parties after establishing that Prof Mavhondo had tasked them to collect data on his project in form of questionnaires.
During the run-up to March 26, 2022 by-elections CCC supporters were attacked at a rally in Kwekwe <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/11-of-the-16-arrested-for-violence-murder-at-ccc-kwekwe-rally-released/">leading to the death of Mboneni Ncube after being stabbed with a spear.</a>
The Gokwe-Kabuyuni by-elections held on August 27 saw Nelson Chamisa’s <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/mahere-says-zanu-pf-thugs-attacked-chamisas-convoy-citizens-attending-gokwe-rally/">convoy under attack allegedly by senior ZANU PF officials</a> with Local government minister July Moyo allegedly involved.
Senior ZANU PF officials are on record <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/owen-ncube-threatens-worse-than-2008-political-violence-against-sell-outs/">threatening that 2023 will be worse than 2008</a> when members of the opposition MDC were attacked and killed in the run-up to the run-off election.
Political analysts say the 2023 elections will likely be bloody.

CCC Condemns "Escalation Of Violence In Gutu Being Perpetrated By ZANU PF"

A Gokwe man died in the early hours of Monday after being struck with a machete by his younger brother during an argument over a piece of farmland.
Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident adding that investigations were already underway.
It is alleged that Ruyamuro Mutsaukirwa (42) of Mutsaukirwa village under Chief Chireya was working in the field when his elder brother, Jongwe Mutsaukirwa (49) of the same village confronted him over the boundary of their plots, NewZimbabwe reported.
Jongwe was accusing his sibling of encroaching into his field. Inspector Mahoko told NewZimbabwe.com:

A misunderstanding arose between the two and it degenerated into a fight. Jongwe snatched a machete from Ruyamuro and struck him once on the chin.
The younger sibling managed to disarm his brother and struck him on the back of the head and Jongwe died on the spot.

A police report led to the arrest of the suspect while Jongwe was ferried to Gokwe North District Hospital awaiting post-mortem.
Mahoko urged members of the public to respect the sanctity of life adding that this incident could have been avoided by involving third parties.

Gokwe Man Kills Brother With A Machete Over Farmland

Five men suspected to have been part of a nine-member gang that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/08/31/gokwe-people-catch-robbers-after-stealing-from-a-mukuru-outlet/">pounced on a Mukuru outlet in Gokwe on 30 August and got away with cash</a> have appeared before a Gokwe magistrate facing robbery charges.
The accused, Alpha Hove (20), Maxwell Moyo (25), Shepherd Chapanda (20) all from Kadoma, Viwe Mashiyi (33), from Harare and Aaron Mavhengere of Gokwe North were arrested by police officers with the assistance of the members of the public.
Pindula News reported earlier that the robbers reportedly got away with US$2 500 and ZWL$20 500 from a Mukuru outlet at Nembudziya Business Centre and US$120 and cellphones from Mutora Pharmacy.
Police are still hunting for the remaining four who managed to escape during the confusion.
Magistrate Mr Hillary Ndlovu remanded the gang to 8 September for further remand, according to <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/mukuru-armed-robbers-appear-in-court/">the Chronicle</a>.
<h2>What court papers say:</h2>
It is alleged that on 30 August, around 4 PM, the gang pounced on the Mukuru outlet while armed with pistols, knives and catapults among other weapons.
One of the accused persons produced a pistol and pointed it at Phineas Nisbet Sibanda who was manning the outlet demanding cash. 
Another suspect then drew a knife and stabbed Sibanda before they took cash amounting to US$2 500, ZWL$20 500 and cellphones.
The accused persons then fired shots toward police detectives who were parked outside and monitoring them. One police officer was injured. 
As the others were exchanging fire with police details, one of the accused, armed with a pistol, proceeded to Mutora Pharmacy and aimed a pistol at one Doctor Mutero demanding cash before he forcibly took away US$120 and cellphones.
Some of the accused sped off in their getaway vehicle whilst some were apprehended by the police detectives with the assistance of the members of the public.

Gokwe: Mukuru Robbers Appear Before The Courts

Five robbers armed with an unidentified gun and knives were nabbed by members of the public after pouncing on a Mukuru outlet in Gokwe while one of the gang escaped with the money.
A witness who spoke to Pindula News said the robbers are known, local people. He said the robbers fired two rounds in a bid to scare members of the public who were closing in on them.

The witness said members of the public pursued the robbers at a distance as they were not sure whether the robbers’ gun was empty or not. He said:

One of the robbers was hit by a stone from the public and fell down. Police officers arrested him as we continued to pursue the other four among them a gun-wielding man. They were caught before the police arrive and were thoroughly beaten by members of the public. We then handed them to the police. The one with the cash was not caught. When they fled from the scene, he went in a different direction.

The witness said the robbers stole approximately US$2 000. It is also alleged that they went into Mutora pharmacy which is adjacent to Mukuru shop where they stole US120.00 from the cashier. 
The gang is allegedly comprised of 9 members.
Four of the caught robbers were identified as Arnold Ziyambi (20), Maxwell Moyo (25), Shepherd Chapanda (20), and Arron Mavhengere (26).

Gokwe People Catch Robbers After Stealing From A Mukuru Outlet

Ten (10) men who were armed with machetes allegedly forcibly gained access to the Gokwe Town Council warehouse around 11 PM on Tuesday and looted property worth around $500 000.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the suspects threatened the security guard, took away the keys to the warehouse and tied him with ropes.
They then drove into the warehouse and loaded property that included new water pumps, stoves, solar panels and vehicle tyres.
ZRP spokesperson in Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the robbery incident. He said:

The guard, Mr John Takaendesa, was then ordered to surrender the gate keys or risk death. They then went on to tie his hands and legs using a rope.
The gang stole 18 solar panels, five water pumps, two four-plate stoves and 10 vehicle tires before they drove away.
</blockquote>
An official with the town council who wanted to remain anonymous said the property was valued at around $500 000.
He said the local authority had ordered some solar panels worth over $150 000 which were part of the stolen loot.
The solar panels were meant for the council’s street solar lighting rollout. Said the official:

The robbers must have had some inside information because some of the property which was stolen was new and had just been delivered. The total amount of stolen property is around $500 000.

Machete Gang Loots Gokwe Town Council Property

A Gokwe man died recently after he reportedly drank beer laced with poison believing that it was a concoction meant to enhance his libido.
Herimani Tererai Mudhefi from Chizororo village under Headman Gumunyu in Gokwe North died a few days after drinking the concoction.
He passed away at Mutora Clinic where he had been taken for treatment.
Mudhefi, who was popularly known as Chitova in his area, was reportedly given the concoction by Livison Chizema also popularly known as Mabvuhu from Tavengwa village.
B-Metro reported sources as saying there are two versions to Mudhefi’s death.
One claims that he was given the concoction by Chizema under the pretext that it was meant to boost his libido.
The other version says the “medicine” was for cleansing his kidneys.
Mudhefi allegedly laced his beer with the medicine and then gulped it but after just 10 minutes he started vomiting.
When he went home, he reportedly told his wife that he was given the concoction by Chizema.
Mudhefi’s family summoned Chizema to come and explain to them about the medicine and he allegedly told them that he got it from his daughter-in-law.
Investigations established that Chizema had deliberately swapped the concoction he was given by his daughter-in-law with the one suspected to have been laced with poison which he gave to Mudhefi. Said a source:

They tried to save him, by taking him to Musadzi Clinic and he was later transferred to Mutora Hospital where he later died.
The doctor who attended to him before he died told his family that it was poison.

B-Metro was also told by its sources that a post mortem was not conducted since the matter was not reported to the police.
Chief Chireya, under whose jurisdiction Headman Gumunyu’s area falls, said the matter was yet to be reported to him.

Gokwe Man Dies After Drinking Sex Potion

Healthcare workers stationed at Gokwe North District have been ordered to return part of the vaccination funds that they were granted late last year.
The money was disbursed late and had already been decimated by inflation when it reached the beneficiaries, and to the healthcare workers’ shock, they were asked to deposit some of the money into the hospital account.
It is not clear why the workers were asked to return some of the funds as the District nursing officer(DNO) and the accounts department gave different reasons.
The DNO said the hospital account had no money for bank charges whilst the accounts department said the fund did not have bank charges.
In another development that points to possible abuse of funds, two environmental health technicians from Zumba Clinic have not received their money three months after the date of payment.
When asked why it has taken so long to pay them, the DNO said, “they will get their money. We will see in which program can we fit them in.”
This has raised more questions than answers, with some healthcare workers suspicious that some people could be financially benefitting from programs that they never attended. A nurse aide who refused to be named said:

This has highlighted our case, we have always said people benefit from programmes which they never attend and this is a typical example.

There are some healthcare workers who appeared on the list that was seen by this reporter who benefitted from outreach programmes but were asked to make some refunds.
The community department and DNO were attending outreach programmes most of the time but it is not clear whether they will also make refunds.
Bizarrely, some healthcare workers who took part in outreach programmes were not asked to make refunds but are paying for static vaccination campaigns, yet they took part in the former.

Nurses At Gokwe Hospital Ordered To Return Vaccination Funds

A 32-year-old man from Ntabazinduna died after being assaulted after he had proposed love to a 12-year-old girl.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), which is already seized with the matter, said they have since arrested Busani Ncube (40) and Hloniphani Ndlovu (37) in connection with the murder case that occurred on the 2nd of February 2022 at Mavolontiya Village, Ntabazinduna. The suspects tied the victim, Marvelous Nzima (32) with a rope, before taking turns to assault him with a sjambok after the victim had proposed love to Busani Ncube’s granddaughter (12).

In a different case, police in Gokwe are investigating circumstances surrounding a case of murder that occurred on 2 February 2022 at Nyandoro Village, Nembudziya.
It is reported that a 43-year-old man is suspected to have struck dead his daughter (14) and son (07) with an axe over an unknown reason.

A 32-Year-Old Man Assaulted To Death For Proposing Love To A 12-Year-Old Girl

A 15-year-old boy died a few hours after being kicked on his private parts while playing with other boys on Thursday last week.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said Tinashe Shumba (15), of Gandiwa Village under Chief Nemangwe in Gokwe, was herding cattle with his friends when he was kicked. Said Insp. Mahoko:

Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms conducting an investigation into the murder of a 15-year-old juvenile who died after he was kicked on private parts whilst playing with other boys at grazing lands.
Circumstances are that the now deceased was herding cattle with other boys when they divided themselves into two teams as they played a game, they termed kick-boxing.

The now deceased was kicked by another juvenile (name supplied) also aged 15. Added Insp. Mahoko:

The teams stopped playing and Tinashe proceeded home whilst experiencing difficulties in walking.
Upon arrival, he narrated what had happened to his aunt who rendered first aid.

Tinashe reportedly died after his condition deteriorated at night and the body was ferried to Gokwe Hospital Mortuary where it awaits post mortem.
Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to always monitor children when playing.

Gokwe Teen (15) Dies After Being Kicked In Privates

Two people died while fifteen (15) others were seriously injured when a kombi hit a pothole before overturning in Gokwe last week.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson for Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the accident which occurred last Friday near Mutora Business Centre in Gokwe North. He said:

Slyvester Hunduza (36) of Mutora stands in Gokwe was driving a Nissan Caravan with 17 passengers on board heading towards Mhumha business centre.
Upon approaching the 700-metre peg from Mutora business centre, he lost control of the vehicle after hitting a pothole.
The vehicle veered off the road and overturned before landing on its side. One person died on the spot and 16 others sustained serious injuries.

He said one of the injured people was pronounced dead on admission at Gokwe North Hospital, raising the death toll from the accident to two.
Insp Mahoko added that three of the 13 victims who were admitted at Gokwe North Hospital were in critical condition and had to be transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare.

Kombi Hits Pothole, Overturns

Gokwe Town Council has approved the drilling of solar-powered boreholes in six wards to address the town’s perennial water challenges.
Council chairperson, Councillor Never Gwanzura confirmed the development, saying the project will be done at a cost of ZW$18 million. He said:

Gokwe Town Council contracted BGM, a private company to drill solar-powered boreholes in six wards to ease the water challenges.
The boreholes are meant to be solar-powered, and so BGM will come to install the solar panels and tanks – that is what is left to be done.
All this is being done at a cost of ZW$18 million. We are doing this to complement the tap water system that we already have in the town. We expect the water issues to be resolved.

The move was welcomed by Gokwe residents as it will guarantee the availability of water all the time. A local businessman, one Chinyemaba, said:

Gokwe Council Sinks $18 Million Into Solar Powered Boreholes

A man from Gokwe South District, Midlands Province, has been slapped with an 18-year jail sentence for raping and impregnating his teenage daughter.
The man from Chamunorwa Village under Chief Mkoka, whose identity has not been revealed to protect his victim, raped his daughter several times until she fell pregnant.
He recently appeared before Gokwe regional magistrate, Lungile Ncube and was convicted and sentenced to 18 years.
Four years were, however, suspended on condition of good behaviour.
Prosecutors told the court that on an unknown date, but during the period from September 2019 to December 2020, the accused unlawfully had sexual intercourse several times with his biological daughter aged between 14 and 16 without her consent. The State outline read:

Accused person is complainant’s biological father. On a date unknown but during the month of September 2019, the complainant and her sister were left in the custody of the accused person while the mother went to Johanne Masowe Apostolic Church.

The State alleged that at night the man went into his daughter’s bedroom and raped her.
The prosecutor, Kennedy Madekutsikwa told the court that when the man’s wife returned home from the church service on the following day, the girl revealed the matter to her.
She, however, did not believe her story and instead threatened to assault her alleging that she was lying against her husband. As a result, she did not take any action.
In September 2020, the girl got pregnant and she informed her mother who again, did not take any action.
The court further heard that despite the complainant being pregnant her father continued having sexual intercourse with her until December last year.
The matter came to light when other villagers tipped off the police, leading to the arrest of the man.

Police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has announced the arrest of seven suspects in connection with robbery and attempted murder cases in Gokwe. Nyathi issued a statement on Tuesday saying the offences were committed between June and October. Pindula News presents the statement.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Bernard Honye (35), Brian Mapani (21), Johnson Makorekanwa (35), Alec Mushayabasa (54), Nicholas Chanetsa (54), Chrispen Makorekanwa (24) and Benevolet Chigayo (32) in connection with nine counts of robbery, stock theft, attempted murder and malicious damage to property cases committed in Gokwe. 
During the period between 13th June 2021 and 1st October 2021, the suspects wrecked havoc in the area where they attacked their victims with machetes, axes, catapults, spears, stones, bows and arrows before demanding valuables. In some instances, the suspects would attack the victims over petty arguments.
Several victims lost property including cattle, goats, cellphones, cash, groceries and clothes during the heist whilst some were seriously injured. Two of the injured victims who sustained severe injuries are battling for their lives in hospital.
Two cattle and the weapons used in the commission of the crimes were recovered. The suspects have since been taken to court and were remanded in custody to 28th October 2021. 
The Zimbabwe Republic Police will continue to work with the public to ensure that criminals are accounted for and have their day in court.

Police Arrest 7 Suspects Over Robbery And Attempted Murder Cases In Gokwe

A 22-year-old man from Gokwe North was fatally stabbed after he allegedly informed a fellow villager that his newly married wife was pregnant by him.
Justice Chidhakwa told Joseph Muzenda that he was actually the one who was responsible for the latter’s newly married wife’s pregnancy.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Muzenda later teamed up with two other suspècts, Simbarashe Zikoke and Wellington Zharare, before stabbing Chidhakwa to death. Said Isp Mahoko:
<blockquote>The suspects waylaid Chidhakwa along a footpath near Manoti Business Centre in Gokwe North on Sunday at around 7 pm before confronting him for claiming that their friend, Joseph Muzenda, had married his pregnant girlfriend.
Simbarashe Zikoke then grabbed Chidhakwa from the back, while Zharare stabbed him once on the left side of the chest and once on the leg with a knife. He died on the spot.</blockquote>
