Seven armed robbers launched a raid on a mine in Filabusi on Friday and went away with 250 kg of gold-trapping carbon valued at approximately US$22,400.
The attack occurred just before midnight, during which the robbers confronted and assaulted three security guards.
ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident in a statement. He said:

Police in Gwanda are investigating a case of robbery which occurred at a mine in Filabusi on December 27, 2024, at around 2300 hours.
Seven unidentified male suspects, who were armed with machetes and logs, attacked three security guards who were on duty before breaking into a carbon room where they stole 250kg of gold carbon valued at US$22 400.
Anyone with information that might assist with investigations should contact any nearest police station.

The incident follows a robbery in Bindura, where eight armed assailants stole 550 kg of pregnant gold carbon valued at US$36,000 on Unity Day.
The robbers initially assaulted a security guard on duty before breaching the carbon room. Commissioner Nyathi stated:

Police have launched a manhunt for an armed gang that robbed a mine in Bindura, Mashonaland Central Province, of 550kg of gold carbon worth US$36,000 on Sunday.
According to a statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the suspects, armed with a rifle, stones, and logs, attacked a security guard before breaking into the carbon room where the gold carbon was stored. Police said:

Armed Gang Steals Gold Carbon Worth US$36,000 From Bindura Mine

Eight suspected armed robbers pounced on a gold mine on Sunday morning and went away with 150kg of gold carbons, US$140 cash, and cellphones.
Police said the suspects, who were armed with axes, attacked three people who were sleeping in a cabin and stole the gold carbons, cash, three cellphones and a water pump.
According to a post on the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Twitter page, Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects. Police said:

The suspects loaded the loot in a white Nissan Caravan vehicle with an unknown vehicle registration number. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.

Eight Armed Men Steal 150kg Gold Carbons In Kwekwe

The ZANU PF candidate for Pumula, Bulawayo, in the 2018 elections, Khumbulani Mpofu, and his gang allegedly robbed a mine in Shurugwi last week and were later arrested by the police.
Mpofu was reportedly issued with a ZANU PF White Ford Ranger double cab vehicle in 2017 which he used in a midnight armed robbery on 22 December at Ansh Red Mine in Shurugwi, <a href="https://twitter.com/NewsHawksLive/status/1607317300428046338">reported The NewsHawks</a>.
A police report obtained by CITE in Bulawayo, shared with The NewsHawks reveals that the seven robbers stole 400kg of gold-loaded carbons at gunpoint. Reads the report:

The seven accused persons who were armed with an identified pistol, an axe an electric shocker and also an unidentified rifle ordered the two complainants to lie down before tying them with a rope.
Some of the accused persons proceeded to the caborn room where they force opened the door and loaded about 400kgs of pregnant caborns into sacks, while some were left guarding the complainants.
One of the accused persons among those who were guarding the complainants searched and took US$250 from complainant number three while the others took four cellphones which were being charged.
The accused persons then left the scene leaving the complainants tied with the rope. One of the complainants managed to untie himself and proceeded to untie the other.
They then phoned complainant number one (Anderson Muchenje) who is the owner of the mine and the case was reported to the Shurugwi police station.
Scene was attended by DUB and CID details, but nothing was recovered.

The seven suspects are Delta Misheck (32), Khumbulani Mpofu (42), Promise Dube (22), Moyo Phakhamani (30), Canicious Sibanda (28), Khumalo Mlamuli (31) and Munetsi Takunda (29).
About 24 hours after the robbery, police got a tip-off and moved for Mpofu, a University of KwaZulu-Natal graduate and ZANU PF activist, before pouncing on the robbers at a tollgate.
Police shot the robbers’ getaway car’s tyres and punctured them before the robbers tried to escape on foot. Reads the police report:

On 24 December 2022 at around 1800hours CID MFFU Shurugwi details received a tip-off to the effect that the accused were in possession of 400 kilogrammes of loaded carbon and looking for an unmonitored elution plant for gold processing.

The vehicle had a VVIP sticker on the screen.
Whilst the aforementioned vehicle was in the queue towards paypoint, detectives approached the vehicle, and identified themselves by producing police identity cards to the driver and occupants.
Detectives then ordered the driver to switch off the vehicle and remain stationary at that point. The driver did not comply instead he, closed the windows and locked the doors, attempted to reverse and move out of the queue.
The attempt failed as the vehicle was blocked by other vehicles in the queue. Support unit details closed in and surrounded the vehicle… Cst Maduche who was armed with an AK rifle… deflated the right tyre by firing one shot whilst… L/Sgt Matonhodze G who was armed with AK rifle… deflated the left tyre by firing one shot.
On realising that the escape with the vehicle was not possible, the driver brought the vehicle to an emergency halt, opened the door attempting to escape and was apprehended across the road by D/Sgt Chaumbezvo after a struggle that resulted in the police detail sustaining a loss of tooth on the lower jaw.

ZANU PF Parliamentary Candidate Arrested For Armed Robbery

The full statement issued by ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on the arrest of suspects linked to armed robbery cases involving gold carbons.
<h2>ARREST OF FOUR SUSPECTS FOR ARMED ROBBERY CASES INVOLVING GOLD CARBONS IN FILABUSI AND ESIGODINI</h2>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Candy Moyo (27), Busani Ndlovu (20), Prince Moyo (31) and Tavona Zhou (45) in connection with a spate of armed robbery cases involving the theft of gold carbons which occurred between 11 August 2022 and 28 September 2022 in Filabusi and Esigodini.
On 29 September 2022, detectives in Filabiusi arrested Candy Moyo after receiving information that linked him to robbery cases targeting gold carbons.
The suspect implicated Busani Ndlovu and Prince Moyo who were arrested at Macoomba Mine, Filabusi.
Further investigations by the Police led to the arrest of Tavona Zhou and the recovery of a get-away vehicle, a Honda Fit, registration number AFN 0092.
The suspects are linked to three cases of armed robbery which include the one which occurred on 11 August 2022 where the suspects pounced at Cowslip 37 Mine, whilst armed with machetes, a bolt cutter and a hammer, before stealing 400 kgs of gold carbons valued at US$417 000.00.
In another case which occurred on 1st September 2022 at True Blue Mine, Filabusi, the suspects attacked the complainant before stealing 100 kgs of gold carbons, while on 28th September 2022 the suspects attacked two complainants before stealing ZWL$80.00, a cellphone and 250kgs of gold carbons.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the suspects’ accomplices, only identified as Honest Phiri, Nqobile Dube, Joachim Mangena and Marko Moyo.
