The late Lazarus “Gringo” Boora’s widow Netsai Meki has vowed never to marry again saying she will take care of her four children with the comedian alone.
Meki, who gave birth to a baby boy on 5 June, seven months after her husband’s death, expressed displeasure over questions raised about the baby’s paternity.
Gringo died on November 9 last year, after being bedridden since August of the same year.
Meki said those who question the baby’s paternity should just back off and concentrate on what concerns their lives. She said:
<blockquote>I will never remarry. Imagine having another man taking care of my children. What if he doesn’t like them?
For now, it is me and my children, what the people are saying is something else and after what I went through I have developed a thick skin.
I wasn’t happy with some of the stories that were written by other media houses, without contacting me.
I was the last wife and was looking after Gringo, hence I should deserve the respect.</blockquote>
Meki revealed that all in all, there are now eight Gringo’s children. His first wife had one, the second wife had two and the third wife had one.
She said all of Gringo’s children’s names start with the letter “T” — Takudzwa, Tanaka, Taurai, Tanyaradzwa, Tabeth and Terrence.
On the Isuzu KB car which Gringo’s eldest son Taurai was fighting for, Meki said the vehicle was still at the Hatfield premises where they were lodging with Gringo when he died. She said:
<blockquote>I don’t know what will happen next on the issue of the Isuzu KB as you can see it’s still parked outside. It has never moved since the death of my husband.
Remember, I told you that it was a company car and the owner has the papers, so maybe he is waiting or should I say is giving us time to mourn Gringo, then at the right time, he will come and announce the next move.</blockquote>

Gringo's Widow Vows Never To Marry Again

Comedian Lazarus “Gringo” Boora’s widow Netsai Meki has given birth to a bouncing baby boy 7 months after her husband’s death.
Meki delivered the baby on 5 June, just over 7 months after Gringo’s death. The comedian died on 9 November 2020 after being bedridden since August of the same year.
She described the child as “heaven-sent, a comforter” who has brought much-needed happiness into her life.
Meki told The Herald that she is not concerned by people who are questioning the baby’s paternity and asking why the baby was born now. She said:
<blockquote>My husband died when I was three months pregnant. I was taking care of him while pregnant and sometimes he would say take it easy as he knew about my condition.
I didn’t share with anyone as I was in grief and as you know according to our Shona culture, when one is three or less pregnant you can’t share the news with anyone.
I was in the village for the past months and it was very stressful, thinking about how to survive. Those who had made their promises never fulfilled them.
I did not have time to trace or check on that, remember they were promises, but what I can say now is nothing has materialised.</blockquote>
Meki, who still resides at the Hatfield house where they were lodging with Gringo, said not many of the family members knew about the baby.
Meanwhile, a family member who refused anonymity, said it remained a mystery why Meki kept quiet about the pregnancy.
Meki already has three children with Gringo.

Gringo's Widow Gives Birth, 7 Months After Comedian's Death

The memorial service (Nyaradzo) of the late comedian Gringo (real name Lazarus Boora) was held at night after Gringo’s eldest son Taurai kept the family waiting as he said he will come to the memorial service after attending a wedding, The Herald reports.
This was revealed by Gringo’s aunt Esther Manheya who said the memorial service could not start in Taurai the eldest child’s absence:
<blockquote>Taurai said he had a wedding to attend today, but he was going to pitch up later. So, we are waiting for him. We are a peaceful family and please just know that people talk a lot. We are surprised with the news that there is war among us.
I just want my grandchildren to benefit equally as you can see they are all here. Netsai should take the house in Rusape, as for the car in question, I only heard it belongs to Gringo’s former boss.
Today I think you can talk to other family members. The story is interesting by day, with new issues to be discussed. Let this be over so I can look after my children in peace.</blockquote>
Gringo ‘s belongings were distributed and his house was reportedly not given to a specific individual. The family has <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/12/12/gringos-family-fight-over-properties-left-by-the-comedian/">been fighting over some of the comedian’s belongings</a> and some family members thought Taurai’s absence was a way of settling a score.
Meanwhile, ZRP officers were reportedly present at the memorial after they were called by the village head as they were anticipating trouble and violence since the family is reportedly fighting since Gringo’s death.

Gringo's Nyaradzo Held At Night Because His Son Was Attending A Wedding

The family of the late comedian Gringo (real name Lazarus Boora) is reportedly fighting over the late comedian’s belonging since his demise on 9 November 2020, The Herald reports.
Gringo left behind 7 children and his wife, the one he had been staying with Netsai Meki and there are reports from insiders that Gringo’s wife is fighting with other family members who include Gringo’s eldest son Taurai. The family is reportedly fighting over the property that belonged to the comedian which includes a car and a mobile phone which Gringo reportedly used for Ecocash Services.
Speaking to the publication, Gringo’s widow said:
<blockquote>To be frank with you, the dispute started the day after my husband died.
It started with some family members who were now avoiding me, hiding me from the press and other well-wishers, maybe they thought since I was grieving I would end up opening a can of worms.
If you recall well, I was with Gringo until the time of his death. His son took over the funeral proceedings at Zimre Park. I have no problem with that, but it seems I was left out of the decision making process.

Meki said she was asked to pay for Gringo’s friends to travel to Nyazura for his funeral and at the time she didn’t even know where the phone was. She said people think she is after Gringo’s money which is not true:
<blockquote>So, the other family members think I am after his property. I met Gringo and he had nothing, we struggled together. He bought his own car, a Mazda 626, which he gladly gave to his son Taurai while he still alive. Now I hear Taurai wants to sell the car because he wants Gringo’s Isuzu KB 250.
The family members, including Taurai, think Gringo had several cars. The Isuzu KB 250 they want does not belong to him. The car is in his boss’ name. He acquired it at work and had negotiations with his former boss at AB Petroleum, where he worked then, as they could not pay him monthly.
So, he was given half his salary and was the car to use for hiring services to get his money back. I do not know what will happen after today, maybe the owner will come and take his car or give it to us for good.
But I am not letting that car go to Taurai because that is what I want to use for his children. They need school fees and food.

When Contacted for comment Gringo’s son Taurai said he was in good books with his father’s wife. However a source that spoke to the publication and said Taurai is being used by the other family members to wreck havoc:

Taurai is being used by other children and their mothers. He is only the mouth-piece. Let us wait and see what happens today and who gets what, but it is an interesting story.

Contrary to social media rumours, Gringo is not dead.
The doctors attending to Lazarus Boora (Gringo’s real name) confirmed on Sunday morning that it was fake news that the actor had died.
One of the doctors, Dr Marisa told H-Metro today:

Gringo has just finished his breakfast after going through his morning x-rays.
“People should not spread lies.’</blockquote>
Gringo was was taken ill last week after his family appealed for help with his medical bills. A <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/04/go-fund-me-campaign-launched-for-gringos-medical-expenses/">GoFundMe campaign was launched</a> to help raise the money. He was admitted soon after with local doctors <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/05/gringo-hospitalised-doctors-offer-him-free-treatment/">pledging to treat him at no cost to him</a>.
On Saturday, 7 November, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/07/hospitalised-gringo-says-hes-recovering/">Gringo revealed</a> that he was recovering:
<blockquote>I was sick, I was in pain, but now I am feeling better and I would like to thank the doctors for all that they have done and are doing for me.</blockquote>

No, Gringo Is Not Dead

Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Tino Machakaire said the government remains committed to the welfare of artists and will work with various partners to that end.
Machakaire said this on his visit to a private hospital in Harare where veteran comedian Lazarus ‘Gringo’ Boora is being treated.
Gringo was hospitalised after struggling with stomach and renal complaints and is receiving free treatment courtesy of the Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association.
Having been taken to the hospital on Thursday unable to walk or feed himself, Gringo said he was now feeling better. He said:
<blockquote>I was sick, I was in pain, but now I am feeling better and I would like to thank the doctors for all that they have done and are doing for me.</blockquote>
Gringo has been unwell since October last year and at one point, had to relocate to his rural Rusape home.
During his heydays, the comedian took part in many television dramas including ‘Gringo’, ‘Gringo Ndiyani’, and ‘Gringo the Trouble Maker’.

Hospitalised Gringo Says He's Recovering

Comedian Lazarus “Gringo” Boora, who has been unwell for some time, has been admitted to Westview Medical Centre in Zimre Park after his condition deteriorated in the past 24 hours.
Gringo is battling intestine obstruction, sitting discomfort, backache, hearing and talking difficulties.
His wife, Netsai Meki, confirmed the development and thanked doctors who pledged to treat the comedian for free. She said:
<blockquote>The situation has changed and as of yesterday around 10 am he was in great pain. We went to his specialist surgeon Dr Pardon Karidza, who is based at the Avenues Clinic.
He checked on him and said there are tests that need to be conducted to check what was wrong with him.
We then got a call from Dr Johannes Marisa and other medical practitioners who told us that they wanted to treat him for free at their hospital in Zimre Park.
We went there and he got admitted. He was put on intravenous feeding and they gave him an injection.</blockquote>

A go fund me campaign has been launched for those willing to raise money to cater for the medical expenses of comedian Gringo, born Lazarus Boora.
The campaign was started by Leonard Chibhamu, the director of Village Secrets, a local television drama where Gringo features as Gibbo.
In a post, Chibhamu said those willing to assist can contact Gringo’s wife, Netsai Meki on 0773414364, which is also her EcoCash number. The post read:

Go Fund Me Campaign Launched For Gringo's Medical Expenses

A Harare-based traditionalist, Oman Kamwelo Banda, popularly known as Sekuru Banda, has promised to pay all medical expenses to be accrued during comedian Gringo’s treatment.
Gringo, born Lazarus Boora, was hospitalised last weekend and was expected to undergo blood tests, a scan and routine check-ups.
He is suffering from intestine obstruction, sitting discomfort, backache, hearing and talking difficulties.
Following the publication of a story about Gringo’s predicament by The Herald on Tuesday, Sekuru Banda visited the comedian at his Hatfield home where he pledged to cater for his medical expenses and also to build him a house in the near future. Said Sekuru Banda:
<blockquote>I was touched by the story and I drove to his place with my team. He is in a sorry state. I asked his wife what was urgently needed.
She spoke of medical bills and consultation fees, unfortunately, she had no knowledge of the full amount required.
I gave them money to go back to the doctor and have check-ups, then come back to me with the actual medical bills. I am going to take care of his medical bills.
I have also pledged to build a house for him. I also offered capital for a business project so that he sustains himself.</blockquote>

Sekuru Banda Pledges To Assist Gringo

Legendary comedian Lazarus Boora, also known as Gringo, is seriously ill again and has failed to raise money for medication.
The 47-year-old is suffering from intestine obstruction and experiencing discomfort in sitting, backache coupled by hearing and talking difficulties.
Gringo had appendix surgery last before he relocated to his rural home in Rusape.
He later returned to Harare and is staying in Hatfield with his wife Netsai Meki and three children.
Meki told The Herald that her husband has been unwell for a long time and they decided to return to Harare as she works at the Tobacco Auction Floors. She said:
<blockquote>He is in pain compared to before. On Saturday we took him to a hospital in Waterfalls because his condition was worsening. They said he was dehydrated.
He is failing to eat properly, and if he eats, he vomits and is suffering from diarrhoea.
We give him only a few spoons of porridge and he eats a morsel of sadza, which he sometimes can’t finish.
Now he is having back problems. The doctor said he might have an infection in his intestines and needs to go for a scan.
The challenge now is finances to go back to his first surgeon.</blockquote>
Meki appealed to well-wishers for donations so that he can be attended to by the surgeon.

Former headlining comedian <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gringo">Gringo</a> (real name Lazarus Boora) has departed for his rural home, The Herald reports. The comedian who was hospitalised a few months ago spoke to The Herald about his recovery and his reasons for leaving the city for Rukweza, his rural home. Gringo said:
<blockquote>I moved back to where I was born to rest and I believe the fresh air here has helped with my recovery. Life here is also affordable, you can grow your own food and what you need to buy is cheap.
I believe urban areas are spaces you go to look for money, when you fall sick its best to come back home to recuperate.
We are a well-knit community that gets along well. I’m in good books with everyone even the village head that’s why it was easy to settle back in. Besides I used to visit my home area even before falling sick
My leaving urban areas does not spell my end. I can still work from here, maybe go to my shoots and return to Rukweza after. Thanks to technology, I’m in constant touch with friends and people I work with.
I had stopped work altogether when I moved here that I even suspended working on ‘Village Secrets’ a television series I was starring in.</blockquote>

Gringo Speaks On His Rural Migration

Zim playwright and cultural activist, Raisedon Baya has pointed out that the arts sector in Zimbabwe simply doesn’t pay enough for artists to live decent lives. He said in an <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/the-truth-should-set-us-free/">opinion piece</a> that only the top artists such as Jah Prayzah and Winky D enjoy decent earnings from their work.
He notes the case of actors that featured in popular TV shows on ZBC such as <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gringo">Gringo</a>‘s L<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lazarus_Boora">azarus Boora</a> who featured:
Says Baya:
<blockquote>The truth here, and we are not saying it loud enough, is that ZBCtv was not paying artistes who were the content creators enough. Most artistes went on TV for fame and ZBCtv took advantage of that.
So why are we quick to say musicians who never made any sales badly planned their lives? Let’s tell the truth, and shame the devil. The sector does not pay. Simple.</blockquote>
Baya says as a result, artists have to rely on charity when they fall on hard times and even for a decent funeral when after they die.

PICTURES: Chamisa Visits Gringo

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lazarus_Boora">Lazarus Boora</a>, popularly known by the name Gringo (a character e played in 90s comedy-drama), underwent surgery for an appendix rupture at CitiMed Hospital in Chitungwiza on Tuesday (15 October).
Boora’s family has appealed for financial assistance to cover medical costs.
Said Gringo’s sister, Linda Boora:
<blockquote>“My brother was first diagnosed with tesnel obstruction, but after having some scans, a specialist indicated that he might have ruptured his appendix.
“We were not expecting him to undergo surgery and we are appealing to well-wishers to assist in any form, so that my brother can fully recover and settle the medical expenses.”</blockquote>

Gringo Undergoes Surgery. Family Appeals For Financial Assistance

Comedian Lazarus Boora who is popularly known as Gringo has requested to see South African Zodwa Wabantu after someone sent him a picture saying the two look alike.
Gringo indicated that he will travel to Bulawayo on Friday to meet Zodwa and Club Connect officials said that he is free to do so. Said Gringo:
<blockquote>Someone sent me a picture of this Zodwa saying I look like her. I looked at her closely and think she may be a relative so I really want to meet her. I’ll be travelling to Bulawayo on Friday just to meet and get to know her. Zodwa has established herself as a top entertainer in South Africa and since I’m also in the arts industry, it’ll be a good opportunity for me to network with her to better my acting career.</blockquote>
