Police in Guruve, Mashonaland Central Province, are currently investigating a murder incident that took place on October 24, 2024, at a local gold mine.
The incident involves a security guard, identified as Simon Chiunye, aged 36, who is accused of fatally shooting a man named Masango Titus, aged 33, using a Huglo shotgun.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said Masango was part of a group of illegal gold panners who had invaded the mine, which has been a growing issue in the region.
According to initial reports, the situation escalated when Masango and other gold panners attacked Chiunye, prompting him to use his firearm in self-defence. The confrontation resulted in Masango being shot in the head, leading to his death.
Following the incident, Chiunye sustained injuries during the altercation and was subsequently admitted to a hospital in Harare for treatment. Police said:

Security Guard Faces A Murder Charge For Killing Intruder At A Gold Mine

The body of a three-year-old girl suspected to have been murdered for ritual purposes was found dumped at the foot of Mavuradonha Mountain, Guruve, Mashonaland Central, a week after she went missing.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident which occurred in Mhokwe Village, Mushumbi.
He said the now-deceased Caroline Makubhwakwa was reported missing on 17 January this year, only for her body to be found a week later with some body parts missing. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

The victim had been reported missing on 17/01/24 after she had left her grandmother to play under a nearby tree in Mhokwe Village, Mushumbi.

Ritual murders are not uncommon in Zimbabwe, with one of the most high-profile cases being the murder of Tapiwa Makore Jr by his uncle and namesake in 2020.
Tapiwa Makore Sr and his herdsman Tafadzwa Shamba were recently sentenced to death by High Court judge Munamato Mutevedzi for the murder of the 7-year-old boy.
The murderers allegedly killed Tapiwa to use his head to boost a cabbage business.

"Ritual Murder" Victim (3) Body Found In Mavuradonha Mountain

A 53-year-old Guruve man was struck and killed by a stray brick that was thrown during a fight between two brothers that he was watching.
Police said Tongai Magocha was watching a fistfight between Edward Chiyanike and his elder brother Encos Chiyanike at Tenanog Farm Shops on Monday when tragedy struck. Police said:

Police in Guruve have arrested Edward Chiyanike (33) in connection with a case of murder in which the victim, Tongai Magocha (53) died on 23/05/23 after being struck with a brick on the head on 22/05/23 at Tenanog Farm Shops.
The suspect was fighting with his elder brother, Encos Chiyanike (40) when an onlooker, Nyasha Mapfumo (25) refrained the duo from fighting.
This did not go well with the suspect who picked the brick and threw it towards Nyasha Mapfumo, who dodged the brick resulting in it hitting the victim.

Last month, an 18-year-old woman who was fighting with her two boyfriends <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/04/21/teenager-accidentally-kills-bystander-during-fight-with-two-boyfriends/">was arrested for murder after she missed one of her lovers and accidentally struck a bystander</a>.
Police said Leanda Mupfumira picked up a half brick intending to throw it at one of her two boyfriends she was fighting with.
The brick hit a bystander, Tawanda Nigel Ziumbe (23), resulting in him falling into a drain and becoming unconscious.
Ziumbe was rushed to the hospital while unconscious, where he died.

Stray Brick Kills Man (53) Watching Fistfight Between Two Brothers

A Guruve businesswoman was hospitalised on Tuesday after being shot and robbed by three unknown assailants.
Partner Muchekeche (28) was admitted to Guruve hospital for medication.
Mashonaland Central deputy police spokesperson Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha confirmed the robbery. He told <a href="https://bulawayo24.com/index-id-news-sc-national-byo-226448.html">Bulawayo24</a>:

Two robbers allegedly entered in Muchekeche’s room and demanded cash while one remained outside.
One of the robbers grabbed her by the collar and demanded cash before threatening to assault her.
Fearing for her life she surrendered US$140 and they demanded more.

It is further alleged that the hardware owner also surrendered a black purse containing $130.
Her mother Everlyn Muchekeche heard some noise in her daughter’s room and she got outside to see robbers.
She shouted for help and the suspects opened fire on Partner before disappearing in the dark.

Businesswoman Admitted To The Hospital After Being Shot And Robbed

A hunter stumbled on five bodies of members of the same family in the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mavhuradonha_Wilderness_Eco-Camp">Mavuradonha</a> Mountains on Sunday, police have confirmed.
The people had been missing for over two weeks since they embarked on a long journey on foot at the beginning of this month.
The youngest is a toddler aged one, while the other four deceased persons are aged five, seven, twenty-nine and sixty-nine years, respectively.
Posting on Twitter this Sunday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the family, whose identity has not been revealed, left Manhondo Village, Mukumbura, Mt Darwin on 3 November on foot on their way to Guruve, a distance of about 200km. ZRP said:

The ZRP reports that bodies of five people aged sixty-nine years, twenty-nine years, seven years, five years and a one-year-old minor, were found at Mavhuradonha Mountain today by a hunter who then reported to the police.

In an unrelated development, police in Dema, Seke Rural, have arrested Ravison Simbini (41) for murder after he fatally assaulted his son Roy Ebenezer Simbini(14) with a leather belt last week on Monday.
Police said the victim had been confronted over allegations of drunkenness on the previous day resulting in the father assaulting him.

Hunter Stumbles On Five Bodies In Mavuradonha Mountains

A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer stationed in Mt Darwin, Mashonaland Central Province, is facing disciplinary action after he allegedly posted opposition leader Nelson Chamisa’s picture on his WhatsApp status.
Constable Spenser Chiteera posted the picture last month and captioned it “Ngaapinde Hake Mukomana”, a statement being used by MDC Alliance supporters to endorse Chamisa’s candidature in the 2023 elections.
The Standard reported a top police officer from Guruve who is close to investigations as having said the cop had since been transferred to Bindura awaiting judgement. Said the police officer:

We are conducting disciplinary action against Chiteera since he violated the Police Act by endorsing an opposition party leader on his WhatsApp status.

Efforts to contact police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi were fruitless yesterday, The Standard Reported.

Cop In Trouble Over Chamisa WhatsApp Status

A Guruve woman Tabeth Mutungwa (45) yesterday appeared before Guruve Magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa, accused of murdering her husband by striking his head with a brick till he died, Newsday reports.
Mutungwa reportedly tried to conceal the crime by dragging her husband’s body from the scene and hung it on a tree, to mislead investigators into thinking her husband committed suicide.
It is the state’s case that:
<blockquote>On December 8 the accused had an altercation with her husband Webster Zhuwaka after accusing him of having an extramarital affair. Mutungwa became violent and fatally assaulted Zhuwaki with bricks.
To conceal her act she dragged Zhuwaki’s body and hung it from a tree.
During investigations, the police found bloodstained clothes in the house and bricks used in committing the crime.</blockquote>
Mututungwa was arrested and charged with murder before the Guruve Magistrate denied her bail and advised her to apply for bail at the high court. The crime took place during the 16 days of activism against gender based violence.
In another case of domestic dispute recorded this month, a woman scalded <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/12/08/woman-pours-hot-cooking-oil-on-boyfriends-privates/">her boyfriend with hot cooking oil</a> after they had a misunderstanding. Guruve Woman In Court For Killing Her Cheating Husband

A group of 5 men including 4 teenagers ganged up and went to a mine in Guruve to attack the guards who had sternly reprimanded one of them earlier and in the alleged attack, one of the guards fatally shot one of the teenage boys, Mining Zimbabwe reports.
The incident was narrated and confirmed by ZRP National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who said:
<blockquote>We can confirm that a security guard at a mine in Guruve has been arrested for the killing of a 17-year-old juvenile whom he shot with a rifle.
The arrest comes after a 15-year-old had earlier on been caught at the mine which was being guarded by the accused person and his workmates who made him to roll on some ashes. He later returned to the mine with his friends to confront the accused person over the issue.
The youths became violent and attacked the security guards with stones, prompting the accused person to open fire, shooting the 17-year-old on the shoulder and killing him instantly.</blockquote>
The gang that confronted the guards was reportedly armed with stones and a firearm and during the confrontation, the guard fired a warning shot which reportedly hit the teenager on his shoulder and killed him instantly.

An angry mob attacked and killed a 16-year-old boy who was suspected to have stolen 83 bottles of can spirits and a packet of Zapnax, Bulawayo24 reports.
According to the publication, Onismo Muzika died on the spot and his friend and accomplice George Chaurika. is battling for his life at Guruve Hospital after they broke into Monica Kondo’s store and stole can spirits and a packet of Zapnax.
A woman named Grace Chihota has been arrested for the murder of Mazika. Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed both incidences and said:

Angry Mob Kills Suspected Thief In Guruve

A Guruve man was accosted by irate ZANU PF supporters who took him to a police station after he was found walking with a dog “dressed” with a T-shirt bearing a picture of President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmerson Mnangagwa’s</a> face.
The villager was identified as Robson Chininga, of Chininga village, Mudhindo in Guruve.

Man Arrested For Dressing Dog With ZANU PF Regalia

A 25-year-old man from Mushumbi Pools was hauled before Guruve magistrates court on murder allegations.
The man identified as Clive Jimmy of Bandayi village under Chief Chisunga in Mushumbi Pools allegedly killed his father with a hammer after he accused him of witchcraft.
He was not asked to plead when he appeared before Guruve resident magistrate Shingirai Mutiro, who remanded him in custody to April 24.
Carson Kundiona, representing the state, alleged that Clive was convinced by a Mbire traditional healer that family members had caused his mental sickness and failure to marry.
Clive thereupon took a hammer and smashed his father Idaek Jimmy (59)’s head. He was rushed to Parirenyatwa hospital where he died the following day.
