Harare City Council has announced that it has withdrawn sponsorship from Harare City FC and dissolved the executive for misusing funds and personalising the club.
Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume emphasised the council’s intolerance for such actions. He said:
<blockquote>
It is not fair and should not be continued. Council will not sponsor any dubious organizations or Football Clubs at the expanse of everyone. This has to stop.
</blockquote>
Mafume said Harare City FC chairperson Aloius Masepe and his colleagues breached by-laws by personalizing the club and Mayoral mansion. He suggested a review of the club’s funding model.
Councillor Ngadziore supported Mayor Mafume, calling for an audit of club funds. He also suggested a new board should be elected to replace the current one.
The council-owned side was relegated from the Premier Soccer League last season after exactly 10 years in top-flight football. The Sunshine Boys were relegated together with fellow council side Bulawayo City and prison sides Tenax and WhaWha.

Harare City Council has over the years faced criticism over its failure to provide adequate public goods and services, including water supply, waste management, road maintenance, and other essential services. This has resulted in poor living conditions for residents, including water shortages, uncollected garbage, and potholed roads, among other issues.
The council blames the lack of resources for the ineffective execution of duties.

Harare City FC Sponsorship Withdrawn; Executive Dissolved For Misuse Of Funds

Newly-appointed Harare City FC coach Lloyd Chitembwe said that he achieved a feat which even the great Spanish coach Josep Guardiola has not managed while in charge of elite European teams.
Chitembwe was the head coach at Caps United just 8 days ago when he beat arch-rivals Highlanders 2-1 at the National Sports Stadium. Barely 24 hours later, he had dumped the Green Machine and signed a contract with the Sunshine Boys.
This past Sunday, Chitembwe led Harare City to a 1-0 win over Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium, thus beating the same opponents with two different teams within a week. Said Chitembwe:
<blockquote>Their (Harare City players) application of tactics was outstanding given (that) we only worked together for four days.
I think we will only get better given more time. I’m extremely excited that I’m probably the only coach to have played one team three times in one season (and winning twice with two different teams), even the great Pep Guardiola has not managed that feat.</blockquote>

Harare City FC has appointed Mark Mathe as the substantive coach following the departure of Mark Harrison.
Mathe has been Harrison’s assistant since the start of the 2018 season.
With reports that Harrison had quit, Mathe took charge of the Sunshine Boys’ Premier League encounter with TelOne on Sunday where his charges battled to a 1-1 draw.
Harare City chief executive Tafadzwa Bhasera on Wednesday confirmed that Harrison had indeed left the club but did not elucidate on why the Briton quit. She simply said:
<blockquote>Our head coach, Mark Harrison, has left his post. He has his own reasons and we had to respect that.
We would like to thank him for the work he did for the team in the past one-and-a-half years he has been in charge.
We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.</blockquote>
Harrison was said to be unhappy due to a number of reasons, among them being poor match officiating by local referees.
His final match in charge was a 2-1 loss to Herentials where he vented his frustrations, revealing that he was considering walking away from the club.

Mark Mathe Takes Over From Mark Harrison As Harare City FC Coach

Harare City FC coach, Mark Harrison, has left the club, with long-time ally and former assistant at Caps United, Mark Mathe taking temporary charge.
Harrison was absent from the bench during City’s 1-1 draw against TelOne at Luveve on Sunday.
Harrison reportedly threatened to quit the club following what he considered unfair refereeing decisions against his club.
His departure has been confirmed by club chief executive Tafadzwa Bhasera. He said:
<blockquote>Our head coach, Mark Harrison, has left his post. He has his own reasons and we had to respect that.
We would like to thank him for the work he did for the team in the past one-and-a-half years he has been in charge.
We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, there are concerns that Harrison’s departure could leave the club’s hyped historic pact with Nottingham Forest in disarray.
He had initiated partnership talks early this year and last month, Forest made the first move after inviting juniors’ coaches from Harare City to come for attachment in England.
Bhasera, however, maintained that the partnership will not be affected whatsoever since Harrison and Harare City parted ways by mutual consent.

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza says the season opener against Harare City on Friday is a tricky one but believes they have done well in preparations for the match.
The reigning champions start off their campaign with a trip to the capital, after having been in action in the Champions League since mid-January. Said Mapeza:
<blockquote>It’s a massive game for us as a club and I think it’s important for all of us to start this journey on a positive note.
We don’t know much about how they are going to play, but we have done a lot in terms of preparation for this match. I just hope the guys will go there and up a better performance.</blockquote>
FC Platinum will have a full strength squad but are likely to miss Godknows Murwira who has a swollen knee. Kick-off is at 3 pm at Rufaro Stadium.

FC Platinum Coach Mapeza Wary Of Harare City In League Opener

Harare City goalkeeper Ryan Harrison has quit the club and returned to England where he is attending a Uefa B coaching course.
Mark who is City’s coach, confirmed the development to the Newsday when his side played Chicken Inn in a practice match at Luveve Stadium in Bulawayo on Friday. Said, Harrison:
<blockquote>Ryan has gone back to the United Kingdom (UK). He is taking his Uefa Licence there. He has done his C-Licence, and he is taking his B, and I think he is contemplating more on moving into the coaching side.
That is to my detriment of course. I don’t think he will be coming back, he will be staying in the UK.</blockquote>
Ryan joined his father at Harare City last year from South Africa and had a good season with the Sunshine Boys ending the season on a high note in the race for the Castle Lager goalkeeper of the year award.
