Stanley Nleya, who succumbed to heart disease last week on Tuesday at UBH will be buried on Tuesday at the National Heroes Acre after he <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/06/19/stanley-nleya-declared-national-hero/">was declared a national hero on Friday</a>, ZBC News reports.
According to the publication, the family has requested that the body lie in state at Nleya’s rural home before it comes to Harare for burial.
The Nleya family spokesperson said they had made the request on behalf of Stanley Nleya’s mother:
<blockquote>We made the request because his mother is still alive but she is now bedridden due to advanced age.</blockquote>
Nleya was a ZIPRA commander during the liberation struggle, and he is said to have trained Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Phillip Valerio Sibanda.

Stanley Nleya To Be Buried At The Heroes Acre On Tuesday

The family of the late national hero and former Zimbabwe Vice President, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Joshua_Nkomo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Joshua Nkomo</a>, may exhume his remains at the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_National_Heroes_Acre" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">National Heroes Acre</a> and re-bury them at his homestead in Kezi, Matabeleland South.
This was revealed by one of Nkomo’s sons, Sibangilizwe, in an interview with The Daily News. He said:
<blockquote>We still have that wish to bury him next to his parents as he wanted. The nation must understand that should we decide as a family to remove his remains from the Heroes Acre, it will be because we are following his wishes.
This follows former <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">President Robert Mugabe’s</a> burial at his rural village in Kutama last week after his family snubbed the government’s offer to build a mausoleum for him at the Heroes Acre.</blockquote>
Nkomo became Zimbabwe’s first Executive Vice President in 1987 following the signing of the Unity Accord with Mugabe, and he died in 1999.

Joshua Nkomo's Remains Could Be Exhumed From Heroes Acre

The government has started the process of constructing the mausoleum where former President Mugabe’s remains will be interred it has emerged. This was revealed by Mr Nick Mangwana who spoke to journslist at the national stadium yesterday when he said designing the shrine for the burial had begun.
Mangwana said:
<blockquote>I don’t know when the engineers will be done with the construction but the engineers have already started designing…..I think people are getting sensational about 30 days. I think what Leo (Mugabe, family spokesperson) was trying to say is that it may take us up to 30 days but this doesn’t mean it will take exactly 30 days without being completed, ….I also don’t know where the body will be during the time of construction.</blockquote>
On Friday it was reported that <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/just-in-mugabe-to-be-buried-in-october-report/">Mugabe will be buried in October</a> after a mausoleum has been built for him at the national heroes acre.

Mugabe Burial Shrine Construction Process Begins

President Mnangagwa bestowed awards to individuals who did outstanding work in response to the Cyclone Idai disaster. The people were conferred with Zimbabwe’s Grand Order of Friendship awards, Bravery Awards and Jairos Jiri Humanitarian Awards. The awards were conferred at the Heroes Day commemorations at Heroes Acre in Harare.

President Mnangagwa Awards Cyclone Idai Responders

Jonathan Moyo, a former minister in President Robert Mugabe’s government, has said that the Heroes Acre has not served any “any past, present or future national purpose” and need rethinking. He said in a Twitter thread that Zimbabweans now think of it as a Zanu PF cemetery.

While some heroes are buried at unknown places in &amp; outside the country, others are buried at their ancestral homes either by choice before their death, as Mugabe is reported to have chosen, or because their relatives refused to have them buried at the now tainted shrines!
The burial shrines of heroes have become tainted because some persons there should not be there and others not there should be there. As a result, many Zimbabweans now rightly feel that the National Heroes Acre in Harare is more of a Zanu-PF cemetery than a national shrine!
What adds salt to injury about the National Heroes Acre is that its constructors, North Korea, also constructed, at Mugabe’s personal request, the notorious Fifth Brigade that massacred over 20,000 Zimbabweans during <a class="link-complex" href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23gukurahundi" rel="hashtag noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#gukurahundi</a>, whose chief enforcer was Emmerson Mnangagwa!
The National Heroes Acre, along with its associated provincial &amp; district heroes acres, need urgent rethinking. They have not served any past, present or future national purpose. Instead, these shrines have been partisan, tribal, regional, divisive and hurtful cemeteries!
Going forward, regarding honouring heroes of the heroic national liberation struggle, it might be more useful to honour and celebrate the selfless liberation sacrifices of only the UNKNOWN HERO than of any individual. A fresh restart is mandatory in the national interest!</blockquote>

The late music icon Oliver Mtukudzi has been declared a national hero by the ZANU PF Politburo. The ruling party’s highest decision-making body met in Harare today were it unanimously agree to confer the honour to the legend. Mtukudzi passed away on Wednesday afternoon at Avenues Clinic.
This means the late star will be buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, a shrine normally reserved for heroes from Zimbabwe’s war of liberation.
