Highlanders Football Club has officially named Sihlangu Dlodlo as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
In a statement issued by the club’s Executive Chairman, Rtd Col Kenneth Mhlophe this Tuesday, April 02, the appointment comes into effect immediately.
Mhlophe said the decision to appoint Dlodlo followed a rigorous selection process. He said out of the twenty-four applicants, five candidates were shortlisted for the final interviews.
After careful consideration, the club’s management settled on Dlodlo as the ideal candidate to steer the club forward. Said Mhlophe:

Highlanders Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Sihlangu Dlodlo as the new club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with immediate effect.
All in all, there were twenty-four applicants with five selected for the final interviews, whereupon the club settled for Mr Dlodlo.
The club would like to sincerely thank all the people who applied for the post and those who participated in the interviews for the same.
Finally, once again, the club would like to thank the outgoing CEO, Mr Ronald Moyo, and wish him all the success in his future endeavours.

Moyo left Highlanders at the end of March 2024 after he decided not to renew his contract which expired on 31 March.
Meanwhile, Dlodlo is a marketing executive and culture promoter who has worked for some blue-chip companies including light manufacturing giant Innscor Africa.

Highlanders Football Club has announced the departure of its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Nhlanhla Bahlangene Dube from the club. Pindula News presents the club’s statement on the development:

FULL TEXT: Highlanders FC Part Ways With Chief Executive Officer

Legendary former Highlanders chairman <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ndumiso_Gumede?utm_source=PindulaArticle&amp;utm_campaign=PindulaArticle">Ndumiso Gumede</a> has died. He was 75. 
He passed away in Bulawayo from suspected hypertension problems.
His death comes barely a week after Highlanders Football Club hosted a special function at the club’s offices in Bulawayo on December 22 to celebrate his life and immense contribution to the club.
He was also a former vice president of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Football_Association_(ZIFA)">Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).</a>
Gumede was born on 14 October 1945 in Bulawayo at the end of the Second World War. 
He grew up in Mzilikazi’s R square 62. Gumede was the son of Sithelo Gumede and Elina Msimanga. Since his father was a teacher, he did his education at a number of schools in and around Bulawayo.
He served in football administration for a long time and has been in the Highlanders structures since the early 1970s as the representative in Harare. He was a divorcee since 1993.

Legendary Former Highlanders Chairman Ndumiso Gumede Has Died

Highlanders are set to receive three cars from Bulawayo’s Johane Masowe eChishanu Selbourne Park sect leader Madzibaba Manuel Mutumwa amid reports they will be given to the club’s captains and two deputies.
Mutumwa pledged the cars last week following reports that the club was talking to the players over potential contract extension deals.
The Bulawayo-based Castle Lager Premier Soccer League giants are captained by goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, who is deputised by defender Peter Muduhwa and Nqobizitha Masuku.
Mutumwa who is a die-hard Highlanders’ supporter said the aim of the donation is for the club to retain the players. He said:
<blockquote>I’m happy to see Highlanders players, coach and chief executive here at church as well as other sports personalities coming to get blessings. At first, I had said I’ll get two cars for the club, but I learnt that there are three captains so each of them deserves a car. When the Lord blesses me and the church, I see no reason why I shouldn’t bless the team that I love most by giving them cars. I’ve ordered the cars from a local dealer who said he has a shipment coming from Japan which should be arriving in three weeks time.</blockquote>
Local clubs usually lose their key players to clubs in neighbouring countries while some go overseas where they would have been offered better deals.

Apostolic Sect Leader Donates 3 Cars To Highlanders

Sources privy to some development in the Highlanders FC camp have said iBosso’s defender Peter Muduhwa has attracted the attention of Sudan’s Top flight league teams and he will be flying out this week to be evaluated by an  unnamed club, Sunday News reports.
A course that spoke to the publication said:
<blockquote>Peter Muduhwa is wanted by Sudanese giants, talks have been opened, the player is likely to travel to Sudan early next week for assessment</blockquote>
However the club’s CEO Nhlanhla Dube dismissed the claims and said:
<blockquote>I know nothing about that, we have not received any official written request for our player from any club or anybody for any of our players</blockquote>
Muduhwa’s contract with Highlanders expires at the end of 2020. Meanwhile Last Jesi and Silas Songani have joined Sudanese giants Al Hilal and they will be officially unveilled by the club today.

Bulawayo football giants Highlanders FC has dismissed social media reports that the club’s benefactors are having their way with iBosso and imposing their will on the club, the Chronicle reports. Scoffing the reports, Highlanders Chairman Kennedy Mhlope in a statement assured fans that the club’s executive runs the show and said:
<blockquote>We take this opportunity to state that while our club is privileged to have members who assist the club in many ways, including rendering financial and material support for specific projects, and in many cases preferring to remain unknown, these members have nothing to do with the everyday business of the club, let alone making decisions on coaches, player recruitment and acquisitions.
The club leadership listens to and appreciates ideas from all members, including the aforementioned members about whom insinuations have been made and aspersions cast. The club’s policies are formulated by the executive in consultation with the board and implemented by the secretariat. On the other hand, all player acquisition and recruitment remains the responsibility of technical staff in line with the club policy.</blockquote>
The reports were reportedly emanating from people who think the anonymous benefactors of Highlanders who pay the club coach’s salary were influencing the club’s decision making.

Highlanders Dismiss Reports That Club Benefactors Are Imposing Their Will On The Team

Highlanders Football Club and club technical Technical Manager Mark Harrison have agreed to temporarily suspend the later’s contract until it is clear when the Premier Soccer League will resume.
In a statement, Bosso said Harrison will return to the United Kingdom and will come back if the situation normalises. The statement read:
<blockquote>Highlanders FC and Technical Manager Mark Harrison have agreed to temporarily suspend Harrison’s contract until both parties are certain when the league will resume. Harrison will return to the UK and will come back if the situation normalises.</blockquote>
The development comes when the club has failed to pay its players’ April salaries on time, with reports indicating that the playing staff members were expected to receive their wages on 11 May.
Harrison’s salary is believed to be around US$4 000 a month and is being paid by a group of Highlanders’ members, who also catered for Hendrikus De Jongh’s wages.

Highlanders Football Club is looking for a new sponsor amid reports that telecoms company, NetOne, will be paying the last instalment of their deal this month-end.
The State-owned mobile network operator (MNO) has reportedly turned its focus to fighting coronavirus and will no longer fund the club.
An unnamed club insider told the Chronicle that if Bosso fails to find a sponsor before the end of May, they will face a potential crisis. He said:
<blockquote>If nothing comes up before the end of May, the club will be staring at a potential crisis. Having received April salaries, the last batch from NetOne is coming at the end of May.
Already, when the April salaries delayed, players were restless and you could tell by the tone of their messages.
They even added the CEO (chief executive officer, Nhlanhla Dube) and treasurer (Donald Ndebele) to their (WhatsApp) group.
With all industries feeling the pinch because of COVID-19 effects, it will be a difficult task for the club to get a partner to fill the void left by NetOne. Serious, feasible rescue plans will have to be found.</blockquote>
Highlanders spokesperson Ronald Moyo confirmed that the club is currently seized with the matter and will inform its members, fans and all other stakeholders if there are any developments.

Highlanders Search For New Sponsor... As NetOne Deal Nears End

Highlanders Football Club has failed to pay its players as well as coaches their salaries for April amid reports that the club’s sponsor, NetOne, is set to terminate the deal in July.
Highlanders’ players and coaches have been paid by NetOne since 2018 but things no longer look rosy at the ailing Bulawayo giants. Sunday News quoted its sources as saying:
<blockquote>NetOne is terminating the sponsorship now, they have given Highlanders a three months’ notice of termination according to the contract.
… Highlanders players and coaches are yet to receive their salaries, things are not looking good. They were promised that the salaries were coming midweek but nothing came.</blockquote>
In 2019, Highlanders received a total of $2 201 172 from their NetOne sponsorship and a further $234 316 from Nyaradzo Funeral Assurance.
NetOne has reportedly turned its attention to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Mobile telecommunications company <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/NetOne_Zimbabwe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">NetOne</a> will soon reveal the full details of its sponsorship package for <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Highlanders_Football_Club" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Highlanders Football Club</a>, as the two entities renew their partnership ahead of the new season.
Netone, through its One Fusion brand, has been sponsoring Highlanders by paying the salaries of the club’s first team and technical staff members as well as footing the travelling and camping bills.
During Highlanders’ annual general meeting in January, chairman Kenneth Mhlophe assured members that NetOne remained committed to the partnership. He said:
<blockquote>Our main sponsors NetOne Cellular remain committed to our partnership and they supported the review of salaries, camping and travelling costs during the year particularly when prices began to shift way out of budgets that had been allocated.

Harrison’s appointment was confirmed Highlanders executive chairman Kenneth Mhlophe in a press statement on Wednesday. Said Mhlophe:
<blockquote>I am glad to announce that the club has agreed on terms with Mark Harrison to fill the position that has been existing in our technical team. Harrison, who is not new to Zimbabwean football is the Highlanders technical manager with immediate effect pending granting of a work permit by the authorities. Considering our philosophy as a club, and his style of football, he emerged as the best institutional fit candidate to take up the huge responsibility. He signed a two-year contract which will run-up to the 31st of December 2021.

The Bulawayo giants yesterday broke a 4-year dry spell by lifting the Chibuku Cup. The Highlanders red pepper hot player Prince Dube scored the match ‘s only goal that saw the team win its first major trophy in 4 years.

Bosso Lifts Chibuku Cup

Highlanders head coach, Mandla Mpofu, has defended his use of Prince Dube as an orthodox striker following the forward’s stunning performance in a different role for the national team.
Dube scored all the goals for the Warriors in a 3-1 win over Mauritius at Barboufields Stadium on Sunday.
Warriors caretaker coach, Rahman Gumbo revealed after the match that he had instructed Dube to play as a roving forward. Said Gumbo:
<blockquote>I gave the young man a free role because l knew he would be unstoppable in that position. As you saw during that game he was causing all sorts of problems for Mauritius.
Before the game, l just told him, go and enjoy yourself on the pitch and he did exactly that.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Mpofu claimed that he is playing Dube in his best position at Bosso and that is is just a matter of time before he starts to score goals by a bucketload. Said Mpofu:
<blockquote>For me, his best position is the main striker. l know people have come up with theories where they say we should play him as a central midfielder, winger and many other roles, but I feel his best position is as the top man.

Mandla Mpofu Defends His Use Of Prince At Bosso

Outgoing Highlanders FC technical director, Madinda Ndlovu views his club’s victory over eternal rivals Dynamos FC not being just about three points.
Ndlovu claimed that the victory has sentimental value for the Ndebele Community. He said:
<blockquote>It’s always good to make your people happy. I am happy they are singing, it helps them to forget a lot of things.
This game has sentimental value to the Ndebele, to the Highlanders fans and family.
Dynamos had dominated us for up to ten years and now we are almost halfway through, trying to cover up that dominance they had.</blockquote>
Highlanders beat Dynamos 1-0 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Bulawayo’s Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Though Bosso dominated the entire match, the solitary goal was scored by Cleopas Kapupurika against his former paymasters after a fumble by the DeMbare keeper.
Dynamos have not won a league match over Highlanders since 2016 and the wait could continue for the foreseeable future as the club is at its weakest in a very long time.
Highlanders are now on 14 points after 12 games, a long way off pacesetters FC Platinum who beat Bulawayo Chiefs 3-0.

Highlanders Coach Madinda Ndlovu was happy that his club broke the jinx to win a football match for the first time this season at the ninth attempt after despatching TelOne 1-0 at Babourfields Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Highlanders toiled against the well-organised Gweru-based side and were happy to take all three points after midfielder Ray “Ndorindori” Lunga scored in the first half. Said Ndlovu:
<blockquote>Today’s football wasn’t better than our previous displays, but luck was on our side.
What was important was to collect three points today. TelOne played more meaningful football than us but were let down by poor finishing.

Madinda Happy To Finally Break The Jinx After Dismissing TelOne

Highlanders were pulled apart by Chicken Inn in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Gamecocks won 3-0 courtesy of a Bret Amidu brace and a fine strike by the country’s leading Top Goal Scorer Clive Augusto.
Speaking during a post-match press conference, Highlanders coach Madinda Ndlovu conceded that his charges could not match Chicken Inn. He said:
<blockquote>It was a bad day in the office. We started off very well but the first goal dismantled us. We did not really match Chicken Inn.
Even after trying to change our playing system the boys had already given up. It’s a pity to say that. I cannot tell the minute when a change will happen in the team.

Highlanders have now gone for seven games without a win, which is considered the club’s worst start in 48 years.

Madinda Downbeat After Gamecocks Thrashing

Highlanders Football Club has responded to the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) following the soccer body’s request to know the circumstances surrounding the suspension of two club officials.
Bosso suspended vice chairman Morden Ngwenya and secretary Israel Moyo after they refused to renew chief executive Nhlanhla Dube’s contract, which had expired on April 30.
ZIFA had demanded to know if the club followed due process in the decision. Here is Highlanders’ response:
<blockquote>We refer to your letter dated 7 May 2018 and further to the telephone discussion between the writer and the ZIFA president on the same date.
We write to advise that the issue of our suspended executive committee members is pending before our disciplinary tribunal in terms of our constitution.
It is, therefore, inappropriate for us to prematurely discuss it at this stage.
Accordingly, I encourage you to be patient and allow due process to take its course, whose outcome shall be publicised.
Indeed, you may want to know that everything concerning the suspended members is being dealt with strictly according to our internal regulations, in particular, the constitution, a copy of which is in your possession.
And, while we appreciate your concerns about the stability of our club, we assure you that there is no need to worry.</blockquote>

Bosso Tells ZIFA Not To Worry Over Its Stability

Highlanders FC technical director, Madinda Ndlovu, is not fearful of losing his job despite the team dropping into the relegation zone with the season in its infancy.
Ndlovu claimed that his target is to be in the top four at the end of the season, rather than winning the title.
Madinda said this during the club’s weekly press conference in Bulawayo ahead of the home game against high-flying Hwange on Sunday. Said Madinda:
<blockquote>My contract states that I should compile a squad made up of mostly local boys in the first year and I achieved that and even finished 5th on the log.
My second season’s target is a top-four finish and a piece of silverware which we already have (Uhuru Cup). The championship is expected in the third year.</blockquote>
Highlanders are in the same boat as Bulawayo Chiefs and Yadah Stars FC in not having won a single match this season.
Fans are already baying for Madinda’s blood, yet the board remains unmoved.

Madinda Ndlovu Not Expecting The Sack

Mbongeni Ndlovu, the Highlanders FC player who was rushed to the hospital following an injury during the Uhuru Cup, was discharged yesterday evening. Soccer24 reports that he underwent a medical examination.
Ndlovu was injured during the second half and was rushed to the Avenues Clinic in Harare.
