Ntandoyenkosi Sibanda (32) from Chikanga, Mutare, and Ashley Munyaradzi Matika (20) from Dangamvura, both employed as housemaids, appeared before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court facing theft charges.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred on July 11, 2024, when the accused stole a cash box containing US$26,000 from their employer’s bedroom and subsequently shared the money.
The crime was discovered the following day, prompting the complainant to file a police report. Investigations led to the arrest of the accused and the recovery of the cash box, along with US$7,800.
Sibanda and Matika were sentenced to 36 months in prison, with 6 months suspended. An additional 12 months were suspended on the condition of restitution, while the remainder was suspended on the condition that each completes 630 hours of community service.

Housemaids Steal US$26 000 From Employer

A police officer is on the run after his wife reported him for allegedly raping their 17-year-old housemaid last week.
As reported by <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/bulawayo-police-hunt-one-of-their-own-after-maid-raped/">ZimLive</a>, Assistant Inspector Farai Mashavira, from Nkata 9 in Bulawayo, is accused of attacking the teenager on September 12.
The incident was reported to Tshabalala police two days later by Mashavira’s wife, who took the alleged victim to file a report.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was alone at the house when Mashavira allegedly returned from work around 1 PM, initially in his police uniform.
According to a police memo, Mashavira asked the complainant to prepare food and then changed into civilian clothes.
While the teenager was washing dishes in the kitchen, Mashavira allegedly approached her from behind, grabbed her around the waist, and covered her mouth when she tried to scream.
He then dragged her to the living room and allegedly raped her on the sofa.
After the assault, Mashavira reportedly changed back into his uniform and left the house.
The teenager called her aunt in Mberengwa at around 5 PM the same day to recount her ordeal.
The aunt then informed Mashavira’s wife, who led the teenager to Tshabalala Police on September 14 to file a report.
Mashavira is currently being sought by police on rape charges.

A police officer is running away because his wife said he raped their 17-year-old housemaid. The incident happened in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The wife reported it to the police two days later. The officer allegedly attacked the teenager when she was alone at home. He forced her, covered her mouth, and assaulted her on the couch. The teenager called her aunt to report the assault. The aunt took the teenager to the police to report the incident. The police are looking for the officer on rape charges.

Police Officer Wanted For Alleged Rape Of 17-Year-Old Housemaid

Two police officers are among five suspects who recently appeared in court on murder charges after they allegedly used electric cables and open hands in repeated attacks on a woman from whom they were trying to coerce a confession for the alleged theft of US$100.
The victim, Ruvimbo Kamugwala, later died as the three other suspects were about to take her to a prophet.
The suspects named in the court documents are Gerald Mupandawana Makore (38), Nicola Kadonzvo (28), Judith Mangando (45), Tafadzwa Gerald Madzima (22), and Tavonga Munoda (21). They were arraigned before the Norton Magistrates’ Court on murder charges.
According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred on July 17, 2024, at Plot 26 in Parl, Selous.
Kamugwala had been tasked to clean the house of the second accused person, who later discovered that $100 was missing.
The second accused person then teamed up with the first and third accused persons and began interrogating Kamugwala, assaulting her with switches, electric cables, and open hands.
The first and second accused persons then went to the local police base, where they met the fourth and fifth accused persons, who are police officers.
The fourth and fifth accused persons proceeded to assault the now-handcuffed Kamugwala with a baton stick.
While in custody, Kamugwala admitted to stealing the money and claimed to have given it to a friend, who denied the allegations.
She later stated that she had hidden the money at home, but a search yielded no results. The fourth and fifth accused persons further assaulted Kamugwala before leaving her in the custody of the first, second, and third accused persons.
Kamugwala died the following morning as the first and second accused persons were attempting to take her to consult a prophet.
The accused persons were remanded in custody until August 1, 2024, and were advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Two Cops Among Five People Facing Murder Charge After Fatally Assaulting Housemaid

A woman from Gokwe rural who was employed as a domestic worker in Bulawayo was among the 201 students who graduated with teaching diplomas from the privately run Blended Education College of Southern Africa (BECSA) on Thursday last week in Bulawayo.
The college is an affiliate of the University of Zimbabwe.
Trinity Mawana (pictured) relocated to Bulawayo from rural Gokwe to work as a housemaid after passing one subject at Ordinary Level.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/maid-acquires-teaching-diploma/">State media</a>, Mawana said she was fortunate enough to have an employer who encouraged her to further her studies.
She revealed that she supplemented until she passed six subjects at Ordinary Level which enabled her to study for a course in teaching. Said Mawana:

When I came to Bulawayo in 2013, I got a job and my employers urged me to pursue my studies.
I had passed one subject at O-Level and following encouragement from my employer, I decided to do private lessons.
I wrote O-Level and passed six subjects. I recall one day while walking in town on my way to collect my employer’s child from school, I came across a new college that had just been established.
My employer encouraged me to apply and I did exactly that and was accepted to study teaching.
While I brought my employer’s child, in between, I would do my school work.

Mawana said it was difficult to work as a housemaid while going to school at the same time.
She said at some stage, she contemplated quitting her studies as she struggled to raise the fees and had to sell tomatoes during weekends to supplement her income. Said Mawana:

At some point, I wanted to give up, but my mother, lecturers, colleagues, and friends gave me words of encouragement…
When I tell my friends out there that I was a maid some can’t believe it. So as a word of encouragement to others in the same predicament, I say, “Don’t give up”.

Mawana, who is presently working as a conductor, said she is looking for a teaching job as it has always been her dream to be a teacher.

Housemaid From Gokwe Acquires Teaching Diploma

Police in Midlands Province have arrested a 16-year-old housemaid who was employed in Zvishavane for kidnapping her employer’s eight-month-old baby and for stealing from her.
The maid kidnapped the baby a day after she was employed.
ZRP Midlands provincial spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the arrest to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/https-www-newzimbabwe-com-maid-arrested-after-kidnapping-employers-eight-month-old-baby-a-day-after-being-hired/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>, saying the maid is from Mushandike Resettlement Scheme in Masvingo. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of a female juvenile aged 16 of Village 15 Mushandike Resettlement Scheme, Masvingo, in connection with a case of kidnapping after she stole an eight-month-old baby.
In brief, the circumstances are that on 9 April 2023, the suspect, Evidence Hove got employed as a domestic maid by Memory Sibanda aged 38 in Mandava Township in Zvishavane.
The following morning on 10 April 2023 she was left taking care of four children aged 14, 12, 8 years and the youngest aged 8 months, while the employer went away.

Police said soon after the employer left, Evidence stole US$60 and went away with the eight-month-old Junior Marenga leaving the other three children behind.
Sibanda was informed about the incident and when the maid failed to return a report was made to ZRP Zvishavane.
The police arrested the maid on 12 April at around 10 AM at Village 7 Sovelele in Sandawana, with the baby in her custody.
Police took the victim to Zvishavane District Hospital for examinations.
Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to ensure that they employ housemaids who have traceable records.
He said prospective employers should have their maids vetted by police before employing them. This service is done freely at any police station.
He also implored parents and guardians not to entrust or leave their children under the custody of strangers.

Housemaid (16) Kidnaps Employee's Baby A Day After Being Hired

A 17-year-old girl who was looking for a job as a maid was allegedly raped on Monday by a man she had been referred to for employment in Borrowdale, Harare.
The girl informed her aunt via a WhatsApp message leading to the arrest of the suspect, who has been identified as Herbert Madhume, aged 27.
The victim was referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for a medical examination.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/teenager-looking-for-a-job-as-a-maid-raped-four-times-in-one-night/">H-Metro.</a> He said:

Police are investigating a case involving a woman who was raped in Borrowdale.
The complainant was looking for a job as a maid and was linked by a friend to get in touch with the accused.
On March 8, at around 1 PM, the complainant was called by the accused to go to the Simon Muzenda bus terminus where she was given directions on how to get to the accused’s residence.
When the complainant arrived at the accused’s residence, she discovered that he was using a single room.
During the night, the complainant slept on the floor while the accused was on the bed.
At around 9 pm, the accused person woke up and sneaked into the complainant’s blankets and raped her once without protection.
He further raped the complainant thrice at three different intervals.

Girl (17) Looking For A Job As Housemaid Raped Four Times In One Night

A 21-year-old woman employed as a domestic worker in Mt Pleasant, Harare, allegedly buried her newly born baby in a shallow grave in her employer’s garden.
The baby was discovered alive moments after it was buried and the woman’s employer rushed it to the hospital, reported NewZimbabwe.com.
The suspect, Melisa Mutafi, appeared before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure facing charges of attempted infanticide.
She was released on free bail and remanded to 9 May to allow the prosecution to collect medical records from Parirenyatwa Hospital Group of Hospitals.
Prosecutors said that on 9 February 2023, at around 5.45 AM, Mutafi’s employer, Hildaberta Rambwiwa, was advised by the security guard that he had seen blood stains on the pavement.
The security guard also told Rambwiwa that he suspected that Mutafi might be hiding something since he had seen her coming from the garden holding a hoe in her hand.
Rambwiwa then asked Mutafi what she had been doing in the garden. Mutafi said she was burying blood clots as she was experiencing heavy menstrual flows.
It was further alleged that Rambwiwa then advised Mutafi to remove the soil from where she had allegedly hidden the blood clots using her hands and she complied.
Upon removing the top soil, they saw the newborn baby. Rambwiwa then took the baby, wrapped it, and proceeded to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where doctors successfully resuscitated it.
Rambwiwa then reported the matter to the police, leading to Mutafi’s arrest.

Housemaid Buries Newly Born Baby Alive

A Filabusi couple allegedly chained up, tortured their maid (19) and poured boiling water on her genitals for allegedly stealing US$200.
On 31 January 2022, Thembelani Moyo (28) and Sibongile Mpofu (28) who stay at Vukuzenzele village in Filabusi and work at Senga Hill Mill Mine discovered that US$200 which they had kept in their wardrobe was missing.
The two allegedly assaulted their housemaid- who cannot be named for ethical reasons- but she denied seeing the money, let alone stealing it.
However, after she had been savagely beaten up, the maid confessed that she had stolen the money and had already spent US$169 and was left with US$31.
It is alleged that a neighbour, Simangaliso Moyo, arrived at the scene with a sjambok and whipped the chained teen.
Mpofu then allegedly boiled water which she poured onto the half-dead maid’s private parts, saying that was to stop her from having sex with any man.
After assaulting the maid, the couple reported her to the police for theft leading to her arrest.
The maid pleaded guilty to theft when she appeared before Filabusi magistrate Abednico Ndebele but also exposed the abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of her employers.
Moyo admitted that they had chained her to stop her from running away.
The magistrate ordered that the teenager must be examined by a State doctor and remanded her out of custody.
While she was out of custody, the maid reported the couple and Simangaliso to the police, for assaulting her and scalding her on her private parts with hot water.
A medical report detailing the extent of the injuries on the maid’s privates was availed in her second court appearance.
The maid was sentenced to six months in prison by magistrate Ndebele.
However, four months of the sentence were suspended for three years on condition that she does not commit an offence involving dishonesty.
The remaining two months were also suspended on condition that she restitutes the US$169.
The couple and their neighbour were arrested for assault and appeared before Filabusi magistrate Sukoluhle Belinda Nunu last Wednesday.

Couple Chains, Scalds, And Sjamboks Thieving Housemaid

Police in Masvingo have urged employers to carry out background thorough checks on prospective employees before engaging them, <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/police-urge-employers-to-do-background-checks/">reported The Mirror</a>.
Police also urged members of the public not to keep large sums of money at their homes, business offices, or vehicles.
A statement issued by Acting Masvingo Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Detective Assistant Inspector Rachael Muteweri read:

She then proceeded to her employer’s bedroom where she stole cash amounting to US$200 and R500 before stage-managing a robbery case by breaking some water glasses and ransacking the whole house.
Upon return from work, the employer was shocked to discover her maid lying helplessly on the floor with cuts on the cheek, stomach and neck.
She inquired what had transpired and only to be told that the accused person had been robbed, stabbed by a knife and indecently assaulted by a lone robber.
She quickly reported the matter to the police who attended the scene and referred the accused person for medical examination.

The housemaid, Takudzwa Mutero cut her face, neck, thighs, and stomach to convince her employer that she had been robbed and indecently assaulted.
Police said Mutero planned the “robbery” with her brother-in-law, Connellias Mupfumi, aged 46.

Maid Feigns Robbery, Steals US$200, R500 From Employer

Police in Bulawayo have arrested Kimberly Ncube (pictured), a 19-year-old girl who was employed as a housemaid in Paddonhurst suburb.
Ncube allegedly kidnapped her employer’s one-year eight-month-old son and also stole the family’s vehicle which was parked at their house on Monday.
Posting on their official Twitter page this Tuesday, ZRP said both the child and vehicle were recovered. The child was found in good health and has since been reunited with his family. Police said:

The ZRP confirms the arrest of a maid, Kimberley Ncube (19) in connection with cases of kidnapping a baby boy (1 year 8 months) and theft of a white Sedan BMW 328i vehicle, registration number AEA 8833 which occurred on 31/10/22 at her employer’s residence along Mackenzie Road, Paddonhurst. The arrest led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the reunion of the baby with his family.

It has not yet been revealed where the maid was found with the child or the motive behind the abduction.

Maid Kidnaps Baby And Steals Employer's Car

A Bulawayo couple has appeared before a magistrate facing charges of stripping and assaulting their maid for demanding her full wages.
Daniel and Briana Mutoronga denied the charges when they appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomasiko Ndlovu last week.
Allegations are that on 2 January this year, at around 8 am, a dispute arose between Soneni Sibanda and her employer after she was given US$30 instead of the agreed US$80.
An argument ensued between the two parties and the couple subsequently ordered Sibanda to leave their home and she refused, demanding her money.
The couple then allegedly tore the complainant’s clothes and threw them out of the house.
Sibanda allegedly tried fighting back but was overpowered by the two who dragged her off their yard naked.
She called her husband in Gwabalanda who rushed to the scene.
The matter was then reported to the police leading to the Mutorongas’ arrest.
Owen Mugari prosecuted.

Housemaid Stripped Naked By Employer

Independent legislator, Temba Mliswa has asked why cabinet minister keep huge amounts of foreign currency in their houses.
Mliswa suggested that the money could be used for illegal foreign currency dealing on the black market. <a href="https://twitter.com/TembaMliswa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">He said:</a>
<blockquote>So how much forex hard cash do these Ministers keep in their homes and for what? What’s the law regarding money hoarding?
Isn’t this forex for money changing or maybe for working so hard for the Chinese? So ZANU PF Youth League were correct.
So the Ministers don’t bank but the ordinary citizen must bank? This certainly will open a can of worms…</blockquote>
Mliswa’s remarks follow revelations <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/07/09/minister-mutsvangwa-loses-us25-000-housemaid/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">that US$25 000 was stolen from the Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa’s house by her housemaid.</a>
The maid, Tracy Manase, has since pleaded guilty to stealing the money <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/07/10/mutsvangwas-housemaid-sentenced-to-3-years-in-jail/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">and was sentenced to three years in jail by a Mutare magistrate.</a>
Recently, the Mutsvangwas’ son, N<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/06/01/mutsvangwas-son-in-ilegal-foreign-currency-deals/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">eville, was alleged to be part of an illegal foreign currency syndicate</a> operating in the Avenues area.

Mutsvangwa Housemaid US$25 000 Saga Will Open A Can of Worms - Mliswa

A 59-year-old woman who once worked as a housemaid for Information Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa, has been sentenced to 3 years in jail.
Tracy Manase from Chizemo village, under Chief Mutambara, appeared before Mutare magistrate Nortilda Muchineripi<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/07/09/minister-mutsvangwa-loses-us25-000-housemaid/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> where she pleaded guilty to stealing US$25 000 from Mutsvangwa.</a>
The magistrate, however, suspended 12 months of the sentence on condition that she restitute US$15 000.
Another 12 months were suspended on condition she will not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
In her mitigation, Manase told the court that she was paid ZWL$120 monthly. She then pleaded with the court to be allowed to contact her relatives so that she could raise the money. She said:
<blockquote>I was being given ZWL$120 as my salary. I am asking for forgiveness my Lord, l want to call my sons and relatives so that they can pay back the money.</blockquote>
The US$25 000 belonged to Joyce Mukono (49) from Zimre Park in Harare who is sister to Minister Mutsvangwa.
She had given the money to the Cabinet Minister for safe-keeping before Manase stole it and resigned from her domestic work.
Manase returned to her village where she was arrested by the police after she had blown most of the money.

Mutsvangwa's Housemaid Sentenced To 3 Years In Jail

Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa reportedly lost US$25 000 to her housemaid.
The maid, Tracy Manase (59) from Chizemo village, under Chief Mutambara, is alleged to have stolen the money which had been given to the Minister for safekeeping.
Manase appeared before magistrate Nortilda Muchineripi and pleaded guilty to the charges and will be sentenced on Wednesday.
The matter was brought to court by Joyce Mukono (49) from Zimre Park in Harare, who is Minister Mutsvangwa’s sister.
Mukono, who is unemployed, gave Mutsvangwa the US$25 000 for safekeeping.
In May, the housemaid resigned and went to stay at her rural home. After her departure, and sometime in June, Minister Mutsvangwa’s sister asked for her money and was told that it was missing.
After carrying out investigations, she found out that the former maid was hiring workers and paying them in US dollars at her rural home.
Mukono reported the matter to Mutare Central Police leading to the recovery of US$3 200 cash and groceries worth US$6 200 from Manase.
