The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has offered US$5 000 for information that can lead to the apprehension of members of a gang that intercepted <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/10/04/police-investigating-theft-of-11-9kg-of-gold-from-how-mine-contracted-security-company/">How Mine’s vehicles and stole over 11 kgs of gold</a> on 04 October this year. In a statement seen by Pindula News, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said nine suspects are on the run. Read the statement:

US$5K Reward For Information On How Mine's 11.6Kgs Of Gold Robbers

Three suspects who were allegedly part of a gang that intercepted three vehicles <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/robbers-intercept-how-mine-vehicles-get-away-with-11kg-of-gold/">carrying How Mine gold and stole 11.9kgs</a> of the precious metal and four guns Thursday appeared before the courts facing theft charges.
Antony Moyo (39), Wilson Mutandwa (24) and Earnest Mutandwa (30) appeared at Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mrs Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze.
They were taken back to Bulawayo Central Police for further investigations, <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/how-mine-robbery-suspects-appear-in-court/">Chronicle</a> reported.
The heist took place on Tuesday during which the three men, together with 10 others who are still at large, pounced on three private security company cash-in-transit (CIT) vehicles which were carrying gold from How Mine which is about 22 km from Bulawayo. 
The suspects who were travelling in three cars; a Toyota Hilux GD6, a Nissan Hardbody single-cab and a Nissan March, ambushed and blocked the convoy before disarming the security guards and loading the gold into their vehicles.
The CIT vehicles were carrying 11.9kgs of gold which was destined for Fidelity Printers.
On Tuesday, police officers received information that some of the stolen items were abandoned at a house under construction along Folly Road, West Somerton in Bulawayo.
Detectives reacted to the report and recovered, car keys, 3 x 9mm spent cartridges, a black glove, a 303-rifle loaded with eight live rounds and three empty metal boxes.

Further investigations by the police established that the South African registered Nissan NP 300 single cab vehicle, registration number HR3OXJGP, which was abandoned by the suspects at the scene, belongs to Ximba Nkosilathi, also known as Tonderai Vumbunu and was at times seen being driven by Antony Moyo.

Three Suspects In How Mine Gold Heist Appear In Court

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of three members of a gang that intercepted three cash-in-transit vehicles that were transporting How Mine’s gold and got away with 11.9kg. A police statement seen by Pindula News says the getaway vehicles that were abandoned after the shootout led investigators to the suspects. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Antony Moyo (39), Wilson Mutandwa (24) and Ernest Mutandwa (30) in connection with an armed robbery case which occurred on 04th October 2022 at the 21 km peg along Bulawayo- How Mine Road, Douglasdale, Bulawayo, where 11.6 kgs of gold on transit from How Mine to Fidelity Printers, Bulawayo and four firearms were stolen.

The suspects’ accomplices who include Abraham Vumbunu, Elijah Vumbunu, Israel Zulu, Diva (no further particulars known) and six other unknown suspects are on the run.
Armed robbery syndicates, including company employees and associates leaking information to criminals are warned that their days are numbered.

Robbers Who Stole How Mine's 11.9kg Of Gold Arrested

Armed robbers intercepted three security vehicles transporting gold from How Mine on Tuesday 04 October 2022, about 10 kilometres from the mine, and got away with 11 kgs of gold, <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/armed-robbers-hit-three-how-mine-cit-vehicles-escape-with-us450-000-worth-of-gold/">The Sunday News</a> reported. 
How Mine is located in Matebeleland-South province, about 30 kilometres southeast of Bulawayo in southern Zimbabwe.
Sources said there was a gunfight involving security officers from a cash-in-transit truck and the suspects whose vehicles were left riddled with bullet holes.
Eyewitnesses told the Sunday News that the armed robbers were using three vehicles, a Toyota GD 6, a Nissan March and Nissan Hard boy single cab. 
It is alleged, How Mine’s internal security manager (name withheld) was following the three cash-in-transit (CIT) vehicles using a Toyota Fortuner from a distance when the ambush took place. 
The security manager then pursued the three armed robbers’ vehicles. 
A shootout ensued and he managed to shoot the Nissan Hardbody which they then dumped while firing at the security manager. 
The manager then pursued the other two vehicles (Toyota GD6 and Nissan March) until Ekusileni Hospital (Hillside) towards the Bulawayo city centre, where the armed robbers managed to escape.
How Mine’s security manager’s vehicle was left with numerous bullet holes.
A revolver gun was recovered from the Nissan Hardbody which was abandoned.
Officials at the mine sent out a distress call warning nearby communities to be on the lookout for the two getaway vehicles.
The gold which was destined for Fidelity Printers is worth about US$581 555 on international markets as of Tuesday 04 October 2022.

Robbers Intercept How Mine Vehicles, Get Away With 11kg Of Gold

An employee at Bulawayo Mining Company (BMC)’s How Mine was fatally injured on Monday during underground mining operations.
The company said air loader operator, William James, sustained injuries in an accident and was pronounced dead at the mine’s wellness centre. It said in a statement:

Bulawayo Mining Company regrets to advise that an employee was fatally injured on Monday, September 19, 2022, during underground mining operations at How Mine.
Following the accident, first aid was rendered on-site and the employee, air loader operator William James, was evacuated to the Mine wellness centre, where he was regrettably pronounced dead.

How Mine has operated for over four-million-man hours without a fatality and in February 2022, it obtained internationally recognised standards certification for successfully embracing top-level management procedures.
BMC expressed regret over the incident adding that full investigations into the incident have begun. It said:

Employee Fatally Injured At How Mine

How Mine will today shut down and its employees self isolate for a minimum of 10 days after 24 employees tested positive for COVID-19 during a routine checkup conducted at the mine, Mining Zimbabwe reports.
The matter came to light in a memo from the mine management to the mine staff members notifying them of the development and the health Ministry recommendations. The memo reads:

Subject COVID —19 UPDATES – HOW MINE LOCKDOWN
Over the past weeks the country has recorded a sharp increase is COVID-19 cases. How Mine has not been spared of the same challenge recording 24 positive cases as at 5 August 2020.
As a result of this sudden spike in COVID 19 positive cases within the mine community the Ministry of Health and Child Care has recommended that the mine be isolated from the outside world for a period of 10 days with effect from Thursday 6 August 2020 to achieve the following;
<ul>
<li>To manage the importation of the virus from external sources so as to contain the pandemic and prevent further spread</li>
<li>To allow for containment of existing infections</li>
<li>To break the chain of further transmission</li>
<li>To continue contact tracing and testing of cases to facilitate flattening of the curve</li>
</ul>
During the enhanced lockdown, only medical emergencies and other identified disciplines will be allowed to leave or enter the mine in the process of performing their critical tasks.

24 Employees Test Positive For COVID-19 At How Mine

One employee was killed while 4 others were injured in an accident at How Mine resulting in the closure of the North Shaft.
How Mine is operated by Metallon Gold. In a statement, the company said:
<blockquote>We regret to advise of an accident at Bulawayo Mining Company’s How Mine that occurred on Thursday 20th June.
A rockfall during shaft examination on the North Shaft resulted in the death of an employee and the injury of four workers.
The injured personnel are receiving appropriate medical care. Operations at the North Shaft have been suspended pending a thorough investigation into the tragedy.
The investigation is ongoing and Metallon will provide further updates as necessary.</blockquote>
Reports indicate that cases of mine-related accidents have surged over the past half year with most of the incidents involving artisanal miners at disused mines.
