Police have urged the public to ignore individuals and groups attempting to undermine peace and security in the country, including those using social media to spread alarm and create despondency among Zimbabweans.
In a statement on Thursday, March 27, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said officers have been deployed to maintain law and order in both urban and rural areas across the country.
Nyathi called on Zimbabweans to cooperate with the deployed officers and report anyone inciting violence or disrupting the smooth flow of traffic. The statement reads:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police acknowledges the peaceful environment currently obtaining in the country and urges the public to continue undertaking social and economic activities without any disturbances.
In the same vein, the Police has deployed members to maintain law and order in both urban and rural set up in all parts of the country.
The law will definitely take its course against individuals and groups who seek to undermine peace and security in the country, including those using the social media to cause alarm and despondency among Zimbabweans.
The public should therefore cooperate with the deployed police officers and report anyone inciting violence and interference with the smooth traffic flow in the country.

The ZRP statement comes just hours after fugitive former ZANU PF Central Committee member Blessed Runesu Geza released a new video reiterating calls for mass protests to force President Emmerson Mnangagwa to resign on March 31.
Geza appeared in the YouTube video on Wednesday from an undisclosed location, wearing military fatigues and urging people “from Plumtree to Mutare, from Zambezi to Limpopo” to “flood the streets.”

ZRP Urge Zimbabweans To Ignore Social Media Incitement To Public Violence

Former Mkoba North MP Amos Chibaya (CCC) was denied bail by Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Monday in a case involving charges of inciting violence. He was remanded in custody to 30 October.
As reported by <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/chibaya-denied-bail-in-violence-incitement-case/">ZimLive</a>, Chibaya is accused of urging fellow CCC activists to engage in violent acts while addressing them at the Harare Magistrates’ Court, where party faction leader Jameson Timba and several others were denied bail in June.
The magistrate accepted the prosecution’s argument that Chibaya will abscond trial and may commit similar offences if released.
A frequent target of arrests due to his activism, Chibaya was recently fined US$50 for missing a court appearance in another ongoing case.
The state contends that Chibaya was part of a group of CCC activists who demonstrated outside the court in June, demanding the release of 77 party members who had been denied bail.
It is further alleged that he convened a meeting at the court’s entrance, where fellow party politicians Agency Gumbo and Ostallos Gift Siziba also spoke. During the meeting, Chibaya allegedly incited violence by saying:

Chi regime chinotya vanhu, chikaona vanhu chinobvunda, Havana kuhwina maelections, togona kufuma tavakutonga, Zimbabwe haisi yeZANU PF, Zimbabwe is not a Mnangagwa Dynasty zvekumbunyikidza vanhu zvinofanira kupera.

Loosely translated, Chibaya allegedly said: “This regime fears the people, and when it sees the people, it trembles. They did not win the elections, and we can wake up to find ourselves ruling. Zimbabwe is not ZANU PF, Zimbabwe is not a Mnangagwa Dynasty. Oppressing people must end.”
It is further alleged that Chibaya invited citizens to come in large numbers to demand the release of their colleagues.

As a result of the incitement, some people at the meeting promised Chibaya to take the prisoners out by force by saying in vernacular “tichavatora Nechisimba, eheeee”.

Amos Chibaya Denied Bail On Violence Incitement Charges

Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has said political activist Jacob Ngarivhume is being persecuted for fighting corruption.
Ngarivhume, who was represented by Professor Lovemore Madhuku, was convicted by Harare Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka on Thursday on charges of inciting public violence after a full trial.
On Friday, Ngarivhume was sentenced to four years imprisonment by Chakanyuka but 12 months were conditionally suspended, according to <a href="https://twitter.com/zimlive/status/1651966094490456065">ZimLive</a>.
Posting on Facebook, Chin’ono said it was not only Ngarivhume who was on trial, but every Zimbabwean’s constitutional rights guaranteed by the Zimbabwean constitution was also on trial. He wrote:

As Zimbabwean political activist Jacob Ngarivhume awaits his sentence this morning after being convicted yesterday for something underwritten in our constitution, we should all remember that Jacob is only a symbol.
What was on trial and is being sentenced today is everyone’s right to exercise YOUR constitutional rights guaranteed by the Zimbabwean constitution.
It is that very same constitution that was on trial and is being sentenced.
Consequent to understanding that reality should also make us know that selective solidarity shows that we are not yet ready to fight for everyone’s rights and the national cause, we are still fighting for personalities.
It means we are not yet ready to fight for OUR and EVERYONE’S freedom.
Stand tall Jacob knowing that your persecution is everyone’s persecution.
All those who are genuinely pursuing respect for the rule of law and constitutionalism stand with you.
Whatever sentence is delivered this morning, we will stand with you because fighting against corruption should never be criminalized!
We take comfort as ordinary citizens in seeing all the messages of solidarity from some bold opposition leaders who understand what this is about.
It is not about individuals being persecuted, it is about what those individuals are being persecuted for, our quest for freedom for all and a better society where we are governed by the law, not political orders.
Solidarity gives those being persecuted strength to carry on, they are not fighting for themselves, they are fighting for all of us.
Understanding that is the beginning of political wisdom which should reside in all of us.

Incitement to public violence is defined as the act of urging, encouraging, or advocating for the use of violence by members of the public against other individuals or groups. The offense carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
The Government has been accused of using the charge of incitement to public violence to suppress dissent and opposition.
Several political activists, journalists, and other individuals who speak out against the ruling party or its policies have been arrested and charged with incitement to public violence.

A video of self-styled prophet Uebert Angel Mudzanire inciting his followers to beat up his critics has surfaced on social media platforms.
The cleric told his cheering followers that they should visit those who disagree with him at night and assault them in their homes.
He assured his faithful that he will bail them out of prison if they were arrested for violence against his critics.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently appointed Angel Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-at-Large for Europe and the Americas.
