Talent Priveledge Sibanda (27), from Madhuve Village, Mberengwa, was sentenced to an effective 26 months in prison for killing her newborn baby about two weeks ago.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Sibanda was arraigned before the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court facing infanticide charges.
Sometime in June 2023, Sibanda separated from her husband, but they later reunited in February 2024 while she was pregnant by another man.
On October 27, 2024, around 7 PM, Sibanda gave birth to a baby girl while she was alone. She then strangled the infant and buried the body in a pit in a nearby field, just a few meters from her home.
The matter came to light when Sibanda’s niece noticed that she was no longer pregnant and reported the incident to the police, leading to Sibanda’s arrest.
During the investigation, Sibanda revealed to the authorities the location where she had buried the child.
The court sentenced Sibanda to 36 months of imprisonment, but 10 months of the sentence were suspended for 5 years on the condition of good behaviour. As a result, Sibanda will serve an effective 26 months in prison.

A woman named Talent Priveledge Sibanda was sentenced to 26 months in prison for killing her newborn baby. She separated from her husband, got pregnant by another man, and then strangled the baby girl when she was born. She buried the baby in a nearby field. Her niece noticed Sibanda was no longer pregnant and reported her to the police. Sibanda told the authorities where she buried the baby. A 46-year-old Silobela man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his uncle whom he suspected of dating his wife.
Felix Chingama (46) allegedly struck his uncle, Prosper Munanzvi (55) with a brick once on the head and then hit him with a log all over the body. The incident occurred at Kombora Village, Silobela, on 17 August 2024. Police said:

Police in Kwekwe have arrested Felix Chingama (46) in connection with a case of murder which occurred at Village Kombora, Silobela on 17/08/24.
The suspect struck his uncle, Prosper Munanzvi (55) with a brick once on the head and then hit him with a log all over the body. The suspect had accused the victim of dating his wife. The victim died on the spot.

In another murder case, on 14 August, police in Nyamandlovu, Lupane arrested Siphethebuhle Nkomo (20) after she allegedly strangled to death her 18-month-old son after failing to silence him while crying at Zimdabule Village 4, Deli, Nyamandlovu. The incident occurred that same day.

A man in Silobela, Zimbabwe, killed his uncle because he thought his uncle was dating his wife. The man hit his uncle with a brick and a log until he died. The police arrested him for murder. In another sad case, a mother in Nyamandlovu strangled her 18-month-old son when he wouldn't stop crying. She was also arrested. These incidents happened in August 2024. It is important to always find peaceful ways to solve problems and not resort to violence.

Silobela Man (55) Killed For "Dating" Nephew's Wife

A woman from Gokwe, Deline Kademaunga, has been arrested for infanticide. It is alleged that on July 5th, 2024, Kademaunga secretly gave birth and then proceeded to dump the newborn child’s body in the hollow trunk of a baobab tree.
According to the police, Kademaunga, a resident of Kademaunga Village in Gokwe South, gave birth to a baby boy who later died under unclear circumstances.
The suspect is accused of disposing of the newborn’s body by placing it inside the cavity of a baobab tree trunk. Police said:

Police in Gokwe have arrested Deline Kademaunga in connection with a case of infanticide which occurred on 05/07/24 at Kademaunga Village, Gokwe South.
The suspect allegedly gave birth to a baby boy who later died and placed the body inside the trunk of a baobab tree.

In a separate incident, Daisy Ivy Makanaka (25), a woman from Mwenezi, has been arrested in connection with a murder case that occurred on Wednesday in Masvosva Village.
Police say Makanaka attacked her husband, Talent Golden Masuku (40), striking him on the head with a log and stabbing him in the back with a kitchen knife. Masuku tragically died on the spot.
Furthermore, Makanaka is also accused of striking Shingirai Mativenga (44), Masuku’s ex-wife, on the head with a log and biting her on the cheek.
She had found Masuku in the company of his ex-wife, Mativenga.

A woman from Gokwe named Deline Kademaunga was arrested for putting a newborn baby in a baobab tree trunk. The baby died after being born. Another woman named Daisy Ivy Makanaka was also arrested for killing her husband with a log and a knife after finding him with his ex-wife. Both women are facing serious charges.

Gokwe Woman Dumps Newborn In Baobab Trunk Cavity

South African police have arrested a 27-year-old Zimbabwean woman for allegedly killing her newborn baby before concealing the body in an empty stand at Ratsaka Village in the Morebeng area of Limpopo Province, reported the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/south-africa-police-arrest-zimbabwean-woman/">Chronicle</a>.
South African provincial police spokesperson for Limpopo, Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed the arrest, saying the incident occurred last Thursday.
He said the suspect is facing a charge of concealment of birth and infanticide.
The woman, whose name police could not release, will soon appear at the Morebeng Magistrate Court. Said Lt Col Ledwaba:

The South African Police Service in Morebeng arrested a 27-year-old suspect for a case of concealment of birth after the body of a newborn baby boy was found at an empty stand at Ratsaka village on Thursday, 15 June 2023 at around 4 PM…
Our officers got a tip-off and upon arrival at the scene together with the emergency services personnel, they found the body of the newborn baby lying on the ground near the suspect’s place of residence.

He said from investigations, police established that the suspect is a Zimbabwean woman aged 27.
In 2021, another Zimbabwean woman was arrested in South Africa for drowning her newborn baby girl in a 20-litre bucket of hot water.
Wendy Tapiwa Chipo (29) of Rietfonten in Gauteng province had tried to terminate the pregnancy without success.
She allegedly submerged the newborn baby in a 20-litre bucket of hot water before putting the body in a plastic bag which she buried it in a nearby bush.

South Africa Police Arrest Zimbabwean Woman For Killing Her Newborn Baby

A 22-year-old woman has been arrested after she was found carrying a bucket containing the body of a newly born baby boy in Mt Hampden.
In a post on the ZRP Twitter page, Police said the suspect, Marvellous Mashanda, has been charged with infanticide. Reads the post:

Police in Harare have arrested, Marvellous Mashanda (22) in connection with a case of infanticide which occurred at a certain house along Old Mazowe Road, Mt Hampden on 17/05/23. The suspect was found carrying a bucket with the body of a newly born baby boy.

Infanticide is the act of intentionally causing the death of an infant, typically within the first year of life and some of the reasons for infanticide in Zimbabwe include poverty and mental illness.
There have been reports of young women who kill their newly-born infants because they cannot afford to take care of them.
In some cases, where a mother is suffering from postpartum depression or other mental health issues, she may feel overwhelmed and unable to care for her child resulting in infanticide.
Postpartum depression is a mood disorder that can affect women after childbirth, and it can cause a range of symptoms, including feelings of sadness, anxiety, and exhaustion.

Woman (22) Found With Body Of Baby In Bucket

A 21-year-old woman employed as a domestic worker in Mt Pleasant, Harare, allegedly buried her newly born baby in a shallow grave in her employer’s garden.
The baby was discovered alive moments after it was buried and the woman’s employer rushed it to the hospital, reported NewZimbabwe.com.
The suspect, Melisa Mutafi, appeared before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure facing charges of attempted infanticide.
She was released on free bail and remanded to 9 May to allow the prosecution to collect medical records from Parirenyatwa Hospital Group of Hospitals.
Prosecutors said that on 9 February 2023, at around 5.45 AM, Mutafi’s employer, Hildaberta Rambwiwa, was advised by the security guard that he had seen blood stains on the pavement.
The security guard also told Rambwiwa that he suspected that Mutafi might be hiding something since he had seen her coming from the garden holding a hoe in her hand.
Rambwiwa then asked Mutafi what she had been doing in the garden. Mutafi said she was burying blood clots as she was experiencing heavy menstrual flows.
It was further alleged that Rambwiwa then advised Mutafi to remove the soil from where she had allegedly hidden the blood clots using her hands and she complied.
Upon removing the top soil, they saw the newborn baby. Rambwiwa then took the baby, wrapped it, and proceeded to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where doctors successfully resuscitated it.
Rambwiwa then reported the matter to the police, leading to Mutafi’s arrest.

Housemaid Buries Newly Born Baby Alive

A newly-born baby boy died this week in Kamativi after his 17-year-old mother dumped her in a toilet cistern.
In a statement on Friday, police said the teenager gave birth and tried to conceal the baby in the toilet.
However, she continued bleeding and a neighbour took her to Kamativi clinic for medical care where she said she was experiencing period pain. Reads the statement by the police:

On 22/06/22, ZRP Kamativi recorded an infanticide case at Kamativi Compound, where a female juvenile (17) gave birth to a baby boy and concealed the infant in a toilet cistern.
The suspect who was constantly bleeding sought assistance from a neighbour who took her to Kamativi clinic, where she lied that she was suffering from period pain.
On returning home, the neighbour heard a crying baby and alerted the Police.
The infant was taken to the clinic, where the mother and the baby were later referred to St Patrick’s Hospital.
However, the infant passed on along the way to the hospital.

Kamativi Teen Mother Dumps Newborn In Toilet Cistern

A 38-year-old Tsholotsho woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her newborn baby girl by strangling it and burying the remains in her garden.
The police said the suspect was impregnated by her boyfriend while he husband was in South Africa.
On his return from Mzansi, the husband noticed his wife’s breasts were swollen but he did not report the matter to the police. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said in a crime update:

On 20/01/22, Police in Tsholotsho acted on a tip-off and arrested a woman (38) in connection with a case of infanticide, where the suspect, who was impregnated by her boyfriend while the husband was in SA, gave birth to a baby girl on 01/12/21 at Mhlatshwa Village and strangled the baby to death before burying the remains in her garden.
The matter came to light after the husband came back and noticed the suspect’s swollen breast. The husband did not report the case to Police.
The remains have since been exhumed and taken to Tsholotsho District Hospital for post-mortem.

Wife's Swollen Breasts Expose Murder Of Newborn Baby

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested a Marondera couple suspected of murdering their one-year-old baby on Sunday last week and secretly buried her along the Ruzawi River.
According to the police, the husband aged 41, and his wife, aged 20, fought whilst the child was strapped on her mother’s back.
The baby fell sick after the fistfight and it is suspected that she could have been hit during the scuffle.
The couple took the child to a local clinic before going to a traditional healer before she passed away.
The parents then secretly buried the baby on the river’s banks. Police have ordered the exhumation of the child so that a postmortem can be conducted. The ZRP said:

Police in Marondera are investigating a case of suspected murder, which occurred in Cherutombo, on 06/08/21, where a couple (20 and 41) secretly buried their daughter (one year) along Ruzawi River.
The duo fought whilst the child was strapped to the woman’s back on 01/08/21 and the child became sick afterwards.
The parents took her to a local clinic before going to a traditional healer and she died.
Police received information on the secret burial and exhumed the body for post mortem.

Marondera Couple Secretly Bury Daughter (1) Along Riverbank

The body of a baby was on Saturday found in a burst sewer pipe at Lobengula Primary School in Bulawayo in a suspected case of infanticide.
The baby boy’s body, suspected to have been flushed in a toilet, popped out of a sewage pond.
It is thought that someone could have terminated a pregnancy before flushing the infant into the toilet system leading to the sewer blockage.
The body was reportedly still intact meaning the person could have flushed the baby in the morning or the previous night.
Police in Bulawayo confirmed the incident and the matter is now under investigation. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said:
<blockquote>I can confirm that the police are investigating a case of terminating pregnancy where on 29 May, a dead infant was discovered by residents in a sewer at Lobengula Primary School. Investigations over the matter are still in progress and awaiting post-mortem.</blockquote>
Insp Ncube appealed to members of the public who might have any information on the case to come forward. He said:
<blockquote>We are appealing to members of the public who might have information on the case or if you know someone who was pregnant but is no longer pregnant.
Please report to the nearest police station. I urge members to desist from killing innocent babies, something can be worked out than killing them.</blockquote>

Baby Boy Pops Out Of Burst Sewer Pipe

33-year-old Kkhumbulani Sibanda appeared before West Commonage Magistrate Ms Tancy Dube, in <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Bulawayo" target="_blank">Bulawayo</a>,  facing charges of attempted infanticide after allegedly throwing his week old baby on the road and stamping on him.  The infant miraculously survived, though with internal injuries.
Dube remanded Sibanda in custody to November 28, for judgement after finding Sibanda guilty on his own plea.  Magistrate Dube however, is waiting for medical evidence of  Sibanda’s sanity before passing judgement.
She said:
<blockquote>I think you have to be examined by at least two doctors to check whether you are mentally stable. What you did is inhumane and unacceptable in our society</blockquote>
