Samuel Eto’o has said he is baffled by South Africa’s performance on international platforms including the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Cameroonian who is a former professional football player who played for top clubs like Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea, wonders why the South African national team, known as Bafana Bafana, consistently underperforms in the tournament. Eto’o believes that the South African League (PSL) is well-organised and one of the best in Africa, so he doesn’t understand why the national team doesn’t perform better. He told IOL:

Some people have suggested that the poor performance of Bafana Bafana could be attributed to the management of the football association, which is led by the ANC Mayor, a political party that is considered corrupt and inefficient. Others argue that although the South African League is strong and competes in continental tournaments, it has many foreign players from countries like Zimbabwe, Malawi, Uganda, and even Brazil. When these foreign players return to their home countries, they strengthen their own national teams rather than South Africa’s. Despite this, some believe that the resources and organisation of the league should enable South Africa to have a stronger national squad.
Eto’o is not the only one who questions South Africa’s potential. Julius Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, <a href="https://sportsbrief.com/football/56852-effs-julius-malema-demands-removal-danny-jordaan-accuses-safa-president-disrupting-football/">has demanded the removal of Danny Jordaan</a> as the President of the South African Football Association (SAFA). 
With Bafana Bafana losing their opening AFCON 2-0 to Mali, Jordaan’s leadership has faced further scrutiny. The team will now aim to turn things around in their upcoming matches against Namibia and Tunisia. Criticism has been voiced on social media, with many expressing disappointment with the current state of South African football and calling for leadership changes.

Samuel Eto'o Baffled By South Africa's Performance At AFCON

Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana ended his career with the national team yesterday without citing reasons for his decision.
This comes barely one month after the 26-year-old player was sent home from the FIFA World Cup in a dispute with coach Rigobert Song.
In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, the Inter Milan player posted saying “my story with the Cameroonian national team has come to an end.” He added:

It all started in Ngol Nkok, a small village where, from a very young age, my family passed on to me the values that identify the Cameroonian people. I understood that love for this country is eternal and that commitment is non-negotiable. I remember how we watch the matches as a family. Only Cameroonians can understand what it means to us to see the Indomitable Lions play.
That’s when I started dreaming of one day wearing the national team jersey. And now, after endless hours of training, endless trips and a lot of perseverance, I can proudly say that I have fulfilled my great dream. But every story, however beautiful it may be, has its end. And my story with the Cameroonian national team has come to an end. Players come and go, names are fleeting, but Cameroon comes before any person or player. Cameroon remains eternal and so does my love for the national team and for our people who have always supported us no matter how difficult the moment was.
My feeling will never change. My Cameroonian heart will continue to beat and wherever I go I will always fight to lift the flag of Cameron as high as possible. I will continue to support as a fan, just as the more than 27 million Cameroonians do at every match. I can only thank all those who trusted me and believed that I could add and contribute to this team.

The last of Onana’s 34 international games was the 1-0 loss to Switzerland on November 24 at the World Cup in Qatar.
Onana later released a statement referring to his disagreement with Song over team tactics that led to him being dropped for the next game, a 3-3 draw with Serbia.
Cameroon went on to beat Brazil 1-0 in their final Group G game but did not advance to the round of 16.
