A Former ZANU PF MP, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Irene_Zindi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Irene Zindi</a> said the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Political_Actors_Dialogue" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD)</a> is wasting government resources and playing a role that is meant for Parliament.
Zindi made the remarks while speaking at the start of a three-day capacity-building workshop for the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_Peace_and_Reconciliation_Commission" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC)</a> Manicaland committee in Mutare on Tuesday. She said:
<blockquote>Polad was given about $5 million to carry out some duties; are we not wasting government resources?
I don’t know the purpose and intention of forming (Polad). Maybe it is for other political reasons.
Polad is not in the Constitution. They are now forming thematic committees, what for? This is something which is being done by the Parliament of Zimbabwe.</blockquote>
POLAD hosted an economic summit this Thursday at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).
The summit was attended by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga, POLAD interlocutors and other stakeholders.

Former ZANU PF MP Questions POLAD's Relevance

A former ZANU PF MP and a veteran of the liberation struggle, Irene Zindi has claimed that her life is in danger after her farm supervisor was reportedly kidnapped and interrogated during the night for hours by unknown assailants.
Zindi is a former MP for Mutasa South in Manicaland Province. During last year’s ZANU PF primary elections, she lost to Misheck Mugadza, who was in turn defeated by MDC’s Regai Tsunga during the harmonised elections held in July.
Writing on microblogging site, Twitter, Zindi claimed that she had decided to speak out so that if anything happens to her, the public would know. She said:
<blockquote>Those elements have struck again, visiting my farm the night of July 17, 2019. Kidnapped my farm supervisor at 9 pm and released him 0300hrs.
Seized his farm, fone, communication radio, bullets. All they did was interrogating him about me, who I live with and my activities on the farm.
… Why are they doing this to me? I don’t know and what could be the motive. I don’t think I am a threat to anyone and I am just concentrating on my business.
My life is threatened and if anything happens to me I want the public to know.</blockquote>

Ex-ZANU PF MP Fears For Her Life

Irene Zindi, ZANU PF central committee member and Mutasa South legislator confronted Lewis Matutu, party deputy secretary for youth affairs, at the Zanu PF central committee meeting last Friday. 
Zindi demanded to know why the youth wing was fighting her. She said:
<blockquote>Why are you de-campaigning me? You came to my constituency and held meetings, accusing me of fronting the remnants of G40. That is bad, I don’t like that. You have to stop it or we will face off.</blockquote>
Matutu was talking to journalists when Zindi confronted him. He asked her that she refrain herself from discussing party issues in the public.
A defiant Zindi is reported to have continued shouting saying:
<blockquote>I don’t care who you are standing with, I want the matter discussed. I know you and I don’t know the other people you are with.</blockquote>
Matutu who refused to comment on the issue said:
<blockquote>She is an elder; I can’t exchange words with her in public, and these are internal party matters. There is no need to drag it out in the media.</blockquote>
Zindi disproved allegations that she secretly de-campaigned Mnangagwa ahead of 2018 elections. She claimed that her detractors wanted her out of the constituency in the 2023 elections. Meanwhile, Matutu, believed to be Mnangagwa’s close ally, is reported to have retaliated against purported obstacles to Mnangagwa’s 2023 presidential candidacy.

Direct Confrontation Between ZANU PF Members

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) cleared Mutasa South legislator Irene Zindi who was accused grabbing a Mutare City Council house.
Mutare City Council accused Zindi of fraudulently acquiring a council house during her tenure as caretaker commissioner. Zindi had stayed in the house when she was part of a commission running the affairs of Mutare City Council after the disbandment of the MDC-T-controlled council led by the late Misheck Kagurabadza a few years ago, and later acquired it.
In a letter addressed to Zindi’s lawyer, Passmore Nyakureba, Zacc commissioner in charge of investigations Goodson Nguni said they had investigated the matter and found that the properly was acquired legally. Said Nguni:
<blockquote>Please be advised that according to documentation provided on the matter, council resolved to sell Park House, stand 10401 located in Mutare to Honourable Zindi of which the honourable minister (Ignatious Chombo) paid for the stand.</blockquote>
When contacted for a comment by NewsDay, Zindi said she was happy the matter had been resolved.

ZACC Clears Zanu-PF MP Accused Of Grabbing A Mutare City Council House

Mutare City Council has resolved to approach the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) to investigate Mutasa South legislator Irene Zindi (Zanu PF) for allegedly grabbing a council house and fraudulently registering it in her name.
Zindi reportedly occupied the house when she was part of a commission running the affairs of Mutare City Council after the disbandment of the MDC-T-controlled council led by the late Misheck Kagurabadza a few years ago. Mutare City Council’s decision to approach ZACC came to light during a full council meeting yesterday in Mutare where councillor Crispen Dube requested to see the copy of the letter set to be handed to Zacc before saying that she should have been involved in the drafting of the letter. However, town clerk Joshua Maligwa shotdown Dube’s request and said that the drafting of such letters was the prerogative of council administrators.

Mutare City Council Wants ZACC To Investigate Zanu-PF MP

Following the introduction of <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/01/31/prices-meat-meat-productsmargarine-set-go-due-statutory-instrument-20-2017/" target="_blank">Statutory Instrument 20 of 201</a>7, which imposed a 15% Value Added Tax (VAT) on meat, meat products, and cereals among other things, legislators from different parties were united in condemning the move.   <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/02/02/chicken-prices-go-massive-40-percent/" target="_blank">The price of chicken has already gone up by 40 percent</a>.  The MPs told Minister of Finance <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Chinamasa" target="_blank">Patrick Chinamasa</a> to find alternative sources of revenue for the government instead of taxing citizens.
Irene Zindi, the Zanu PF legislator for Mutasa South, told Chinamasa that it did not make sense to expect the people to have money when the government itself was broke:
Said Zindi:
<blockquote>This idea that each time government needs money we go back to the people, impose taxes and increase prices isn’t good. These are people whom we know are earning $200 so where do we think the money is coming from?
How many families in this environment are going to be affected? The pain is more felt by those already poor. Children are going to be more stunted. Minister please find another way than to keep on milking penniless people.</blockquote>
MDC deputy president, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Thokozani_Khupe" target="_blank">Thokozani Khupe</a> seconded Zindi saying the government  needed to  generate revenues through other means, not taxes:
<blockquote>So, I am appealing to the Minister like I said earlier on to say you cannot raise enough revenue through fines. Let us do the geological survey that we have been talking about from time immemorial. This will allow this country to generate billions of dollars.</blockquote>
Outspoken Norton MP <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Temba_Mliswa" target="_blank">Temba Mliswa</a>, who is an independent, also said that the government should deal with corruption and cut expenditures instead of focusing on taxing people, whenever they needed money.
<blockquote>People are suffering; we are being insensitive to their plight by not providing solutions. Government has a tendency of working up to introduce a tax, you must ask yourself where is the money coming from if you are failing to do it yourself?
What should be done is deal with the issue of executive expenditure. The level of corruption is out of this world, policy inconsistency, these have become an impediment to foreign direct investment. Can we bring the executive to order please!</blockquote>
Mliswa also suggested that a real economist was needed to manage the country’s finances saying:
<blockquote>I appreciate minister Chinamasa works hard but working hard is not the same as working smart. From history, I think we need economists to do this job.</blockquote>
