2. She must also extend formal apologies to all structures she serves in or leads, including the Southern Caucus of the Pan-African Parliament.
These apologies must be made immediately. Following this, an internal disciplinary process will be initiated in accordance with the uMkhonto weSizwe Party Constitution, Code of Conduct and all relevant prescripts.
Failure to comply with this directive will result in immediate consequences, including the summary termination of Commander Duduzile Zuma’s membership in uMkhonto weSizwe Party and her recall from all Party responsibilities.

MK Party Demands An Apology From Jacob Zuma's Daughter For Insulting Shivambu

Jacob Zuma, leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), is reportedly mulling legal action against his former party, the ANC, after his attempt to overturn his expulsion failed.
The ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal (NDCA) upheld the decision of the National Disciplinary Committee, confirming Zuma’s permanent expulsion from the party.
Zuma, who joined the ANC at the age of 16 and served as South Africa’s president from 2007 to 2017, was expelled from the party in July. Zuma’s brother, Khanya Zuma, said:

My brother is fighting for the party he worked so hard for not to be destroyed. I don’t know whether he is going to take the party to court because we have not spoken about this matter since after his appeal was unsuccessful.

Secondly, he is also keeping the ANC busy while his party is busy mobilising on the ground. The third aspect is raising the possibility of black unity beyond party lines. This opens doors for its recruitment of disgruntled ANC members.

However, political analyst Dr Ongama Mtika believes that Zuma reflects somebody who lives in denialism. Said Dr Mtika:

He has founded a party that is against the ANC and this is not constitutional within the context of the ANC.
Any kingdom that is divided within itself is going to fall apart, and so the ANC has been falling apart in the democratic period because of internal divisions.
Zuma’s formation of the MK Party shows that enterprise is chief of all the divisions that have taken place in the ANC.
The challenge with him (Zuma) continuing to fight to remain a member of the ANC is an illogical thing.

Zuma’s expulsion from the ANC followed his active promotion of MKP, a move that ANC leaders, including Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, have linked to the party’s dramatic decline in the May 29 elections.
In those elections, the ANC’s national vote share plummeted from a dominant 58% to a mere 40%. Meanwhile, the MKP surged, securing 14% of the national vote and an impressive 45% in KwaZulu-Natal, making it the largest party in the province.

Floyd Shivambu, the Secretary-General of the South African opposition political party, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, has dismissed the State capture narrative, which emerged from the judicial inquiry led by former Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, as lacking merit.
In an interview with Newzroom Afrika on Wednesday, Shivambu, who resigned from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in August, criticised the allegations against several prominent figures, including former President Jacob Zuma, former Eskom and Transnet CEO Brian Molefe, and former Transnet chief executive Siyabonga Gama.
Shivambu, who had been a long-time ally of Julius Malema, the leader of the EFF, explained that for years, he had been misled into believing the accusations against these leaders. Shivambu asserted that State capture did not happen. He said:

There is no such thing that got to happen. That is why even from a mechanical point of view, the people that you say are facing corruption allegations and all of that, are not facing such.
They tried to charge commander Brian Molefe with corruption, but those charges have been dropped. There is no meaningful case against our Member of Parliament, commander Siyabonga Gama.
There is no case against Lucky Montana, there is no case against anyone because all of that State capture nonsense was just fiction that was meant to bastardise and scare off those who were in pursuit of radical economic transformation.
That is the agenda that we openly and proudly associate with. We call on the people of South Africa to realise that we were misled for a very long time, with so many lies.

However, the withdrawal of the case against Brian Molefe was not an exoneration, but a result of poorly formulated charges that preceded the final report of the Zondo Commission.
This followed the High Court in Pretoria accepting Corruption Watch’s formal notice of withdrawal, with both parties agreeing to bear their own costs.
State capture in South Africa refers to a form of systemic political corruption where private interests influence the state’s decision-making processes to their own advantage.
It was associated with the close relationship between Zuma and the Gupta family, who allegedly used their influence to secure lucrative government contracts and appointments.
The Zondo Commission of Inquiry, chaired by former Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, investigated these allegations and found substantial evidence of corruption and state capture.
The commission’s report, released in 2022, detailed how state-owned enterprises like Eskom, Transnet, and PRASA were manipulated for personal gain.

ANC Youth League leader Collen Malatji has called on EFF leader Julius Malema to return to the ANC, saying his expulsion was “reckless” and “harsh.”

They claimed the MK Party offered a solution to the ongoing struggles of black people.
Zuma resigned in 2018 under pressure from the ANC, facing corruption charges and accusations of taking money from the Gupta family.
The EFF, led by Malema, was the main party pushing for his impeachment.
Malatji suggested that Malema misjudged Zuma’s willingness to forgive his expulsion from the ANC and made a mistake.
He warned that Malema should return to the ANC to avoid Zuma’s revenge, describing Zuma as a “snake” who could slowly destroy the EFF. Said Malatji:

134. The charged member is expelled from the ANC.
135. The charged member has the right to appeal to the National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal within 21 days.
The final verdict being: “The charged member is expelled from the ANC. The charged member has the right to appeal to the National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal within 21 days.”
Former President Jacob Zuma has actively impugned the integrity of the ANC and campaigned to dislodge the ANC from power, while claiming that he had not severed his membership.
This conduct is irreconcilable with the spirit of organisational discipline and letter of the ANC Constitution.
Furthermore, former President Zuma has been running on a dangerous platform that casts doubt on our entire constitutional edifice.
He has meted out a host of anti-revolutionary outbursts, including mischievously calling into question the credibility of our electoral processes without cause and discrediting the rationale of our judicial system.
The political values and democratic institutions he is mobilising against were consciously embedded into our constitutional dispensation by the ANC; as strategic advances of the values of the National Democratic Revolution.
His platform is dangerous, appeals to extremist instincts in our body politic and riles up a political base that may foment social unrest.
His actions reinforces the work of the primarily right-wing opponents of the National Democratic Revolution.

The MK Party dislodged EFF as the third-largest political party in South Africa.
The ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee found Zuma guilty of prejudicing the integrity of the party by acting in collaboration with uMkhonto weSizwe in a manner contrary to the aims, policies and objectives of the ANC.
Zuma, who was suspended from the party in January 2024, now has 21 days to appeal the judgment with the ANC’s National Committee of Appeal.
Meanwhile, MK Party Spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, on Sunday night told <a href="https://www.sabcnews.com/sabcnews/zuma-hasnt-been-formally-notified-of-expulsion-from-anc-mk-party/">SABC</a> that they had not been formally notified of Zuma’s expulsion. Said Ndhlela:

Experts say only 134 members were needed to reach a quorum.

South African Parliament's First Sitting To Go Ahead Despite Boycott Threats

ANC Veterans League and MK Liberation War Veterans member Siphiwe Nyanda has pleaded with the ANC’s leadership not to work with its former president, Jacob Zuma, warning that he would finish his job of destroying the party.
The former uMkhonto weSizwe Council (MK Council) chairman, wrote his letter on Tuesday, in response to an article written this weekend by former ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe.
In his article, Motlanthe discussed the ANC’s approach to forming coalitions following its dramatic electoral decline and suggested that the ANC should resist the temptation to align with the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP).
uMkhonto weSizwe was a revolutionary armed wing of the ANC during the struggle against apartheid and is a different organisation from the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) party led by Zuma.
Nyanda blames Zuma for the ANC’s decline, not only due to his formation of the MKP but also pointing to his failures during his nine years in power.
Zuma’s MKP emerged from the elections as the third biggest party in South Africa only six months after its formation, despite not having structures or anything to show in terms of clearly defined policies or plans.
MKP’s strong showing was evident in traditional ANC strongholds like KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

He did not believe in a Constitutional Democracy that OR Tambo bequeathed us; he did not support an independent judiciary; he did not believe in the will of the people, as he is now showing practically following the latest elections by disputing the results, which are an expression of the will of the people.
Now that Zuma has inflicted so much damage on the ANC from the outside there is a rush to bring him back by his accomplices who are still embedded in the leadership of the ANC so that he can finish his job of destroying the once proud liberation movement of the oppressed people of South Africa.
These attempts must be firmly rejected. The counterrevolution led by Zuma must be kept away. We cannot invite it back into our midst.
These counterrevolutionaries and pseudo-revolutionaries have defiled our good name and driven away many of our supporters.

Nyanda urged the ANC to embrace renewal, hold a National Consultative Conference, and realign with the values of leaders like Oliver Tambo and Nelson Mandela.

ANC Stalwart, Siphiwe Nyanda, Warns Against Working With Zuma

South Africa’s Constitutional Court (ConCourt) on Monday ruled that former State President, Jacob Zuma is not eligible to stand for this month’s elections, reported <a href="https://www.sabcnews.com/sabcnews/remission-of-sentence-does-not-alter-zumas-sentence-concourt/">SABC News</a>.
In 2023, President Cyril Ramaphosa granted Zuma a remission of sentence citing overcrowding in correctional facilities following his 2021 conviction and jailing for contempt of court.
However, in a unanimous judgement delivered by Justice Leona Theron on Monday, the court found that Zuma was neither eligible nor qualified to stand for election.
The Apex court said a remission of sentence does not serve to reduce a sentence, adding that the effect of a remission is to bring forward a convicted person’s date of release.
It ruled that the 15-month sentence it previously imposed on him for contempt bars him from standing for election. Said Theron:

This court finds that Section 47(1)(e) focuses on the length of the sentence imposed and not the length of the sentence served. The section uses the words convicted of an offence and sentenced, the effect of a remission of sentence is to bring forward the person’s date of release.
Remisssion of sentence concerns the execution of the sentence and does not retrospectively alter the sentence imposed by the court. Thus, for purposes of Section 47(1)(e) remission of sentence is irrelevant.
… Mr Zuma was convicted of an offence and sentenced to more than 12 months imprisonment for purposes of section 47(1)(e) and is not eligible to be a member of and not qualified to stand for election to Parliament.

The ConCourt overturned the order of the Electoral Court that found that Zuma’s sentence and conviction were not a sentence and conviction as envisaged in a section of the constitution. The matter was appealed by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

ConCourt Bars Jacob Zuma From Standing For Election To Parliament

Former South African president Jacob Zuma, who is fronting uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK), a new opposition party, has been given the green light to run in the country’s general elections slated for 29 May 2024.
The electoral court on Tuesday, 09 April ruled that Zuma can stand in the upcoming general election, overturning the earlier ruling by electoral authorities that barred him due to a previous conviction. It did not explain how the verdict was reached.
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) had earlier excluded Zuma from the contest following his 2021 conviction and jailing for contempt of court.
The IEC had barred Zuma in terms of Section 47(1)(e) of the Constitution – which states that any person who is convicted of an offence and sentenced to more than 12 months imprisonment without the option of a fine is ineligible to stand for public office.
Zuma was sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of court after refusing to testify before the State Capture Commission.
However, Zuma’s lawyer, Advocate Dali Mpofu argued the sentence did not disqualify Zuma as it followed civil rather than criminal proceedings.
He further stated that the remission of sentence granted to Zuma by President Cyril Ramaphosa means that the ultimate sentence meted out against him is three months.
The MK party is considered “a dark horse” in the election race and is expected to reduce the vote share of the ruling African National Congress (ANC).
This could result in the ANC’s share of the vote falling below 50 per cent. This will force the ANC to seek coalition partners to remain in power.
Meanwhile, the IEC has requested that the Electoral Court hand down the reasons that led to the order in which it dismissed the objection made against Zuma.

Jacob Zuma Wins Appeal To Run In General Election

South Africa’s former president Jacob Zuma escaped unharmed after his convoy was involved in a car crash on Thursday night.
According to <a href="https://www.news24.com/news24/southafrica/news/jacob-zuma-unscathed-after-car-crash-20240329">News24</a>, the accident happened shortly before 9 PM between Gingindlovu and Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal.
The publication reported sources close to the incident as saying that neither the former president nor his bodyguards had sustained any injuries.
Asked what happened, one insider suggested that someone might have deliberately caused the accident. They said:

I would say that people are up to their old tricks. The presidential convoy was on the way to the Nkandla homestead from Durban when the incident happened. It was in the evening. A driver drove into the main car carrying the former president.
The car did not overturn, it was crashed into by another car purposely. Someone drove directly into the presidential convoy. It means they know exactly what they are doing. He is fine and at home.

Pictures supplied to News24 show that the vehicle crashed into the driver’s side of the BMW SUV.
The car’s front tyre seems to have sustained the most damage and scratches could be seen on the front and rear doors.
Another News24 source claimed that a drunk driver had lost control and hit the convoy. They said:

The cars were damaged… everyone was not harmed. The accident happened when the convoy was almost in Eshowe.
The guy was speeding around the bends and was shocked to see the presidential convoy and drove directly into the convoy.
He was so drunk that he could not stand up straight. I do not think that it was deliberate.
Ubaba was taken by another vehicle, and some remained behind.

MK Party head of elections Musa Mkhize told the SABC that they suspected foul play. Said Mkhize:

Unfortunately, we have been waiting for it to happen. The president was warned that before the day of the elections, he would be lying in the hospital. Thanks to the Presidential Protection Unit members who managed to keep the president safe.
As MK Party in KwaZulu-Natal, we are highly concerned, and we are registering this, particularly with the Presidential Protection Services and the Minister of Police, that the president’s safety has been highly compromised due to political interference in his safety.
</blockquote>
He claimed that a case had been opened with the police.
Mkhize further alleged that Zuma’s security had been reduced dramatically “and his life is in danger” since he announced his support for the MK Party. He said:

We definitely suspect foul play. The person who is doing this out there knows what they are doing, just because they have powers to deploy and redeploy and cut the safety of the president, which we strongly believe is what led to this.
I have never heard of or seen an incident that happened to the head of state or a former head of state. So why did it happen to President Zuma?
Was there enough personnel for the president? Is it the same personnel that he always had?
Why would a certain car only target the main car where President Zuma was and not the other few cars that were surrounding him? President Zuma was the target.

In a post on X, Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, said her father is in “high spirits” and attending church in Nkandla.

Jacob Zuma Survives Car Crash, MK Party Claims "Foul Play" Involved

South Africa’s former president, Jacob Zuma has been disqualified from running in the country’s general elections in May.
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) chairperson Mosotho Moepya told the media on Thursday that Zuma was one of eight candidates who faced official objections, adding they followed the constitution in disqualifying the affected candidates. He said:

The Commission could only act within the confines of the law and the constitution, this commission has written to the objectors, candidates and nominating parties to advise them of its determinations as required any objector, party or candidate aggrieved by the decision of the commission may appeal the decisions with the Electoral Court by the 2nd of April 2024…
In the case of former president Zuma, yes, we did receive an objection, which has been upheld.

The IEC has not given a reason for Zuma’s disqualification, but his 2021 conviction and jailing for contempt of court would appear to disqualify him.
He was sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of court in relation to appearing before the State Capture Commission in June 2021.
Zuma, who led the country from 2009 to 2018 until his removal amid wide-ranging allegations of corruption, is backing the new uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party which has been seen as a possible threat to the governing African National Congress (ANC), which has suspended him.
The MK Party had previously threatened violence if Zuma was barred from contesting the elections.
MK spokesman Nhlamulo Ndlhela told the AFP news agency the party ” of course will appeal” the IEC’s decision.
The ANC had wanted South Africa’s electoral body to deregister MK, but that request was rejected.
The ANC has launched a separate legal challenge against Zuma’s party, disputing its use of the name and trademark of the dissolved organization.

South Africa's Jacob Zuma Barred From Running In 2024 General Election

Former President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, has announced that he will not campaign for the ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), in the upcoming elections. Instead, he will vote for the uMkhontho weSizwe (MK) party, which is registered with the Electoral Commission of SA. Zuma made this announcement through a statement read by his daughter Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, as he was not feeling well.
Zuma expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of the ANC, stating that it has changed from the party he joined 64 years ago. However, he mentioned that he could never completely leave the ANC and would always consider himself a member. He expressed disappointment in the practices introduced by his successor, President Cyril Ramaphosa, which he believes are different from the traditional values of the ANC. He listed a long list of complaints. Zuma-Sambudla read on her father’s behalf:

Zuma stated that he has been holding meetings with various leaders, including political parties, to unite the historically oppressed in South Africa. He said they are discussing the formation of a Patriotic Front and a voting bloc after the 2024 election to pursue a minimum consensus program of no more than 10 points of agreement to address the present crisis. Zuma said the ultimate goal is to achieve total liberation from colonialism by uniting Africans across the country, continent, and diaspora in the fight for land, justice, and radical economic transformation towards economic freedom. Zuma emphasized that reconciliation cannot occur without socio-economic justice and equality.

Former President Jacob Zuma of South Africa has been granted a remission status, which exempts him from serving further time in prison. Remission status is typically granted to low-risk and non-violent offenders.
President Cyril Ramaphosa ordered the release of thousands of non-violent offenders, including Zuma, after he was briefly re-incarcerated. 
Makgothi Thobakgale, the national commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services, told reporters in Pretoria, the capital that the nation’s prison authority freed former President Zuma after he was re-incarcerated for less than two hours on Friday. He said Zuma, 81, was “admitted” to a prison in Estcourt in eastern South Africa early in the morning, and then freed after he was “subjected to administrative processes,” 
The decision follows a constitutional court ruling that overturned Zuma’s release on medical parole, which had initially led to widespread protests and violence in the country.
In 2021, Zuma was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment for defying a court order to appear before the Zondo Commission which was investigating him over corruption allegedly committed during his nine-year tenure as president. His initial arrest two years ago led to violent protests across South Africa that saw over 300 people killed.
He then handed himself over to authorities in July 2021 but was released on medical parole due to ill health two months later. He denies corruption allegations.

Former South African President Jacob Zuma Granted Remission, Avoiding Further Prison Time

The South African Constitutional Court last week dismissed the Department of Correctional Services’ application for leave to appeal a ruling that former president Jacob Zuma must go back to prison.
In the ruling handed down on Thursday, the apex court found that the DCS’s appeal “bears no reasonable prospect of success” and dismissed the application with costs.
DCS sought to appeal the Supreme Court of Appeal’s ruling in November last year that former correctional services boss Arthur Fraser unlawfully authorised Zuma’s release on medical parole in September 2021.
Zuma was jailed for contempt of court after he refused to obey the Constitutional Court’s order that he must appear before the Zondo Commission to answer to allegations of abuse of office and corruption during his tenure as president.
The unanimous judgment penned by Judge Tati Makgoka, said Zuma must return to the facility and complete his sentence.

SA Court Rejects Appeal Against Sending Former President Zuma Back To Prison

South Africa’s Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Mr Ronald Lamola, has said the application to extradite the Gupta brothers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been unsuccessful. 
Lamola made the remarks during a Zoom presser this Friday.  
<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/south-africa-anc-called-for-swift-extradition-of-guptas-arrested-in-dubai/">South Africa applied</a> last year to have Rajesh and Atul Gupta extradited from UAE, where they were arrested, to face the allegations against them in South Africa.
The Gupta brothers are accused of using their connections to former South African President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jacob_Zuma">Jacob Zuma</a>, in power from 2009 to 2018, to win contracts, siphon off state funds and influence cabinet appointments.
Zuma and the Guptas, who left South Africa shortly after Zuma was ousted in 2018, have issued blanket denials of any wrongdoing.
They have not been formally charged in a South African court, but have been sought by prosecutors over the allegations.
Dubai’s police last year arrested the Guptas, who face potential criminal charges in South Africa including money laundering, after receiving an Interpol red notice. The Interpol red notice is a request to law enforcement officials worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition.
Following the arrest, the UAE Ministry of Justice said the extradition request between the authorities in the UAE and South Africa was under procedure and further information would be made available in due course.
The UAE ratified an extradition treaty with South Africa in April 2021, a move South African officials had hoped would help bring the Guptas back to face charges. But the Justice Department in South Africa has now reported that its application to extradite the Gupta brothers was unsuccessful.

South Africa’s former President Jacob Zuma says his urgent court application to block <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/ramaphosa-gives-jacob-zuma-until-monday-to-withdraw-private-prosecution-summons/">his private prosecution</a> of President Cyril Ramaphosa will test “whether Lady Justice has removed her blindfold in South Africa“.
Zuma made the remarks in his replying affidavit to Ramaphosa’s court application to avoid appearing in the criminal court on Thursday, January 19. <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/sundayindependent/news/africa/zuma-dares-judges-to-apply-double-standards-52c098f1-dc6b-4fb3-9689-1f229a13b443">IOL</a> cites him as saying:

Zuma is accusing the president of being an accomplice in breaching provisions of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Act after the authority allegedly unlawfully leaked his medical records to the media.

South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa has given his predecessor, Jacob Zuma until Monday to withdraw the private prosecution summons he served on him.
A letter from the State Attorney to Zuma’s lawyers questions the former president’s timing of serving a summons on Ramaphosa a day before the beginning of the ANC’s national congress.
It also labels the summons as invalid and accuses Zuma of abusing legal processes.
The State Attorney says he may take further steps should Zuma fail to act on the demand by Monday.
Zuma on Thursday said he is prosecuting Ramaphosa privately.
He is accusing the president of being an accomplice in breaching provisions of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Act.
It’s in relation to a private prosecution Zuma is currently pursuing against prosecutor Billy Downer and journalist Karyn Maughan.
He accuses them of leaking his medical records but the president says Zuma is abusing legal processes and that he requires a certificate of non-prosecution from the NPA in order to initiate private prosecution.
Ramaphosa has also responded to assertions that he failed to act in the Downer matter.
He said he referred the matter to the Justice Minister, who has oversight of the NPA.

South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal ruled on Monday that the decision to release ex-president Jacob Zuma on early medical parole was “unlawful” and he should return to prison to finish his sentence for contempt of court, according to <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/south-african-court-orders-zuma-back-jail-after-ruling-medical-parole-was-2022-11-21/">Reuters</a>.
Zuma was sentenced last year to 15 months imprisonment after refusing to appear before the Zondo Commission that was investigating him over corruption he allegedly committed during his nine years as president.

A spokesman for Jacob Zuma Foundation said the foundation would respond. On Sunday, ahead of the court ruling, foundation spokesman Mzwanele Manyi said the judgment did not have anything to do with Zuma. He said:

We think… he has served the 15 months that he was meant to serve in any event and importantly it is not President Zuma that applied for the medical parole… It is the government itself, the department of correctional services initiated the process and they saw it through.

The court did not rule on whether time spent by Zuma on medical parole should be taken into account when determining the remaining period of incarceration, saying this would be left in the hands of the national commissioner of correctional services.
The department of correctional services said it noted and respects the court’s decision.

South Africa: Court Orders Ex-President Zuma To Return To Prison

Former South Africa President Jacob Zuma has expressed support for President Vladimir Putin in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine while denouncing western powers.
Zuma described Putin as a man of peace, saying he has been very patient with the western forces. A statement released on 6 March 2022 by the Jacob Zuma Foundation reads:

Surely in terms of efforts to achieve world peace, the sovereignty of Ukraine and all the democratic dictates cannot mean allowing NATO to establish a presence on its real estate; thus, establishing an untenable security risk to Russia.
Ukraine and Russia are separated only by a line on the map and not by the Baltic Sea – Why is this complicated to understand?
If forces, globally known to be hostile to the United States of America (USA), were known to be establishing the presence of any sort in any of the adjacent territories within the USA, the USA would certainly act in a manner that it believes would neutralise such a perceived threat.
In reality, the USA has not only acted to the counties around its borders, but it has moved around the whole world, to deal with what it has considered as threats to its national security.
There are clear examples of such invasions by NATO forces in the Middle East as well as in Africa.
With the above in mind, it looks justifiable that Russia felt provoked. It is however quite fortunate that His Excellency President Vladimir Putin, unlike other small countries, has the capacity (in Russia) to respond to security threats in line with the prescripts that are applicable to his country.
His actions, whereas justifiable, are still a far cry as compared with what other big powers have done when faced with such a situation.
Some western powers, who are today playing holier than thou, have invaded a number of small countries in the world e.g., Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya to name but a few. These glaring examples of interference have left those countries in ruins.
The western countries, and their acolytes’ support of Ukraine (under the guise of defending the sovereignty and democracy in Ukraine) is a selfish act to further their own interests at the expense of innocent lives and property in Ukraine.
Recently, there was a disguised attack on some member countries of BRICS.
In Brazil, a progressive government, under Her Excellency Former President Dilma Rousseff, was brought down under nefarious accusations of corruption.
Her comrade, His Excellency Former President Lula da Silva was accused of corruption. He was arrested and convicted. Later he was released after it was discovered that the charges were all concocted. In whose interest was this done?
In South Africa, His Excellency President Zuma was removed from office, before he finished his term, by the western forces using their forces that they are in control of within some structures of our government; and some that they control in the ruling party.
He was subsequently unlawfully arrested (as confirmed by no less than two constitutional court justices) on 07 July 2021; incarcerated without a trial by the constitutional court; denied a right to appeal both the judgment and the sentence.
To date, there is currently no case number/docket and thus the rights of His Excellency President Zuma were grossly violated. In whose interest was this done?
In India, the Indian National Congress Party, which has widespread roots in the country, “lost” elections.
China was attacked by the credit rating agencies but fortunately, China’s economic power is too big and successful, that the rating agencies failed to dent the Chinese economy and its standing globally – China continues to be a force to be reckoned with.
Russia, a BRICS member country is now in the crosshairs of the bullies. Ukraine is being used basically as a front, so that Russia can be brought to its knees through unjustifiable sanctions.
These facts as articulated above are important to be taken into consideration when the current impasse between Russia and Ukraine is being discussed and analysed. It is clear that without the insistence of western powers behind
Ukraine, the impasse between Russia and Ukraine could be resolved quickly and amicably.
We all need peace in this world; therefore, we would like to urge those involved to bring peace as swiftly as possible so that lives can be saved.
We call on President Zelensky to put the interests of the Ukrainians first, instead of pandering to his western allies at the expense of innocent lives.
H.E President Zuma is hopeful that the initiatives to have peace talks between the two countries will succeed.
“I am certain that His Excellency President Vladimir Putin will reciprocate and will bring all in his power to make peace a reality, as I know him to be a man of peace who has worked hard to ensure peace and stability in the globe,” said H.E President Zuma.

Former SA President Zuma Backs Putin In Ukraine Conflict {Full Statement}

A South African court has ruled that the country’s former President Jacob Zuma should be returned to prison, saying his medical parole was unlawful.
The time he has spent out of prison should not be counted in his 15-month sentence, the Tswane High Court ruled.
 Zuma was released on September 5 for an undisclosed medical condition.
He had been jailed for refusing to appear before the Zondo Commission that was investigating him over corruption he allegedly committed during his presidency.
The 79-year-old handed himself to police in July after a public stand-off, but his jailing, unprecedented for an ex-president, sparked violent protests and looting.
More than 300 people, mostly in Zuma’s stronghold of Kwa-Zulu Natal province, died in the protests.
The former leader had testified only once at the inquiry into what has become known as “state capture” – meaning the siphoning off of state assets.
Businessmen have been accused of conspiring with politicians to influence the decision-making process while he was in office. Zuma has repeatedly said he is the victim of a political conspiracy.
Prison authorities say his release on parole was compelled by a medical report, but his sickness has never been disclosed.
He did, however, undergo surgery after he was imprisoned with his spokesman saying at the time that imprisonment had had further deteriorated his health condition. 
On Wednesday, judges in the High Court in Pretoria ruled that the decision by the top correctional officer to release Zuma on medical parole was “reviewed, declared unlawful, and set aside”.
Zuma is expected to appeal the decision.

The South African Correctional Services Department announced Sunday that Zuma had been placed on medical parole. Pindula News presents OSA’s statement on intentions to approach the government.

The One South Africa Movement (OSA) will submit a formal application, in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIR), requesting the full record of decision that led to the Department of Correctional Services granting former president Jacob Zuma medical parole. This is crucial to ensure the public is taken into confidence that government’s decision was in good faith, and is furnished with both the reasons and the rationale behind such decision. 
Today’s news that Zuma has been granted medical parole is a questionable one — considering that Zuma’s former spy boss, Arthur Fraser, currently heads up Correctional Services as National Commissioner. 
The full disclosure of reasons behind the decision is the most prudent way to address any concerns, contradictions and conspiracies. We cannot afford to go down the Jacky Selebi or Schabir Shaik path, whereby well-connected individuals are granted medical parole in dubious circumstances. 
We need to know: 
• Who was on decision-making panel? • what facts the panel were furnished with? • Whether there were any additional political considerations? 
Section 79.1(a) of the Correctional Matters Amendment Act states that a prisoner may be considered for medical parole if he or she is “terminally ill or physically incapacitated as a result of injury, disease or illness, so as to severely limit daily activity or inmate self-care”. 
Therefore, we need to assess the record of decision to satisfy the aforementioned standard.

Mmusi Maimane-led OSA Demands To Know How Zuma Was Placed On Medical Parole

Jacob Zuma, former president of South Africa has been placed on medical parole after the Department of Correctional Services received and considered his medical report. According to South African laws, offenders can be granted medical parole if they are terminally ill or are physically incapacitated. Zuma who was on 8 July this year imprisoned for refusing to testify in the Zondo Commission of Enquiry that is investigating him for corruption he allegedly committed during his time as <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zuma-undergoes-surgery-remains-in-hospital-correctional-services/">president was last month in the hospital where he was operated</a> on for an undisclosed ailment. <h2>MR ZUMA PLACED ON MEDICAL PAROLE </h2>
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is able to confirm that Mr Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma has been placed on medical parole. 
Section 75(7)(8) of the Correctional Services Act 111 of 1998, affords the National Commissioner a responsibility to place under correctional supervision or day parole, or grant parole or medical parole to a sentenced offender serving a sentence of incarceration for 24 months or less. The National Commissioner is also in terms of Section 52, empowered to prescribe conditions of parole. 
Medical parole’s eligibility for Mr Zuma is impelled by a medical report received by the Department of Correctional Services. Apart from being terminally ill and physically incapacitated, inmates suffering from an illness that severely limits their daily activity or self-care can also be considered for medical parole. 
The risk of re-offending of released inmates must also be low and there must be appropriate arrangements for the inmate’s supervision, care and treatment within the community to which the inmate is to be released to. 
M.ical parole placement for Mr Zurna means that he will complete the remainder of the sentence in the system of community corrections, whereby he must comply with specific set of conditions and will be subjected to supervision until his sentence expires. 
Medical Parole can only be revoked if an offender does not comply with the placement conditions. 
We want to reiterate that placement on medical parole is an option available to all sentenced offenders provided they meet all the requirements. We appeal to all South Africans to afford Mr Zuma dignity as he continues to receive medical treatment.

South Africa: Jacob Zuma Placed On Medical Parole

South Africa’s Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has said former President <a href="https://www.news24.com/news24/southafrica/news/breaking-jacob-zuma-hospitalised-admitted-for-medical-observation-20210806">Jacob Zuma was admitted to an outside hospital for medical observation on Friday 6 August 2021. </a>
Zuma is currently serving a 15-month prison sentence at the Estcourt Correctional Centre in KwaZulu-Natal for refusing to appear before the Zondo Commission of Enquiry that is investigating him over alleged corruption he reportedly committed during his tenure as president.
DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said that as a former president, the healthcare needs of Zuma require the involvement of the South African Military Health Services. Nxumalo said:

This has been the case since his admission at Estcourt Correctional Centre.
A routine observation prompted that Mr Zuma be taken for in-hospitalisation.

The department pointed out the inmates’ health was addressed under Section 35(2) of the Constitution which directs the DCS to ensure that:

Everyone who is detained, including every sentenced prisoner, has the right to conditions of detention that are consistent with human dignity, including at least exercise and the provision, at state expense, of adequate accommodation, nutrition, reading material and medical treatment.

<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/07/08/15-month-jail-term-ex-sa-president-zuma-in-police-custody/">Before turning himself to the police on July 8,</a> Zuma argued that his age and health condition and any other mitigating circumstances were not considered when the imprisonment was decided. <a href="https://www.africanews.com/2021/07/05/sending-me-to-jail-at-my-age-is-the-same-as-sentencing-me-to-death//">He added:</a>

Sending me to jail during the height of a pandemic at my age is the same as sentencing me to death.

When he was imprisoned, scores of supporters thronged to the streets in solidarity with the former president. The protests degenerated into chaos and looting.

South Africa: Former President Zuma Hospitalised For Medical Observation

Former South African president Jacob Zuma was admitted to a hospital outside of his prison grounds on Friday morning, following a routine check-up on his health.
Zuma is now receiving care at a separate facility for his ailments, which have not been disclosed to the public.
Reports suggest the former president might weigh up his chances of securing “medical parole” if things get any worse.
According to The South African, medical parole can be granted under the following conditions:
<ul>
<li>An offender can apply if they suffer from a terminal disease.</li>
<li>If an illness, affliction, or injury leaves an inmate ‘physically incapacitated’, they are also eligible.</li>
<li>The Medical Advisory Board (MAB) must have the final say on who gets granted medical parole.</li>
<li>An applicant must undergo a rigorous assessment before the MAB submits a verdict to Case Management Committees.</li>
<li>If successful, an inmate will then be discharged and monitored by DCS officials, under a strict set of conditions.</li>
<li>An offender cannot be sent back to jail if their health improves – that only happens if they violate their terms of release.</li>
</ul>
Justice Minister Ronald Lamola last month said there would be nothing to stop Jacob Zuma from applying for medical parole if he felt his health was deteriorating. Said Lamola:

I deal with medical paroles for lifers on a day-to-day basis and they do come from, in terms of recommendations, from the medical parole board.
Any offender can apply for medical parole and so we’ve got our medical board that does assessments to check if he qualifies according to stipulations. He may apply to MAB to see if he qualifies, yes.

Jacob Zuma Hospitalised... Can He Be Granted Medical Parole?

A former high ranking member of South Africa’s State Security Agency (SSA), Thulani Dlomo, has been released from police custody without being charged.
Dlomo had handed himself over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 16 July.
An alleged close colleague of former President Jacob Zuma, Dlomo was identified by the media as one of the 12 individuals wanted by the government for allegedly instigating the violence in KZN and Gauteng.
According to <a href="https://www.sabcnews.com/sabcnews/ex-top-spy-thulani-dlomo-hands-himself-over-to-police-as-ramaphosa-gears-up-to-address-the-nation-at-830pm/">SABC News</a>, Dlomo went to the Durban Central Police Station late on Friday and surrendered himself to the custody of the authorities.
Speaking outside the police station, Dlomo’s lawyer, Phumlani Shangase, who accompanied him to the police, said his client is a free man for now but is concerned by the unfounded allegations against him. He said:
<blockquote>He views the allegations as malicious, hence he reserves the right he has to take whatever action to clear his name.</blockquote>
Earlier on Friday, Dlomo issued a statement that denied his involvement in the unrest and challenged those who allege that he is one of the 12 alleged instigators to back up their claims.
He demanded that Deputy Security Minister Zizi Kodwa withdraw a statement in which he alleged that he (Dlomo) was one of the masterminds behind the riots.
However, Kodwa told <a href="https://www.sowetanlive.co.za/news/south-africa/2021-07-16-stop-peddling-lies-about-me-thulani-dlomo-takes-on-zizi-kodwa/">TimesLIVE</a> that he never said Dlomo was an instigator and merely said that there were claims that former SSA members were behind the unrest. Said Kodwa:

Dlomo, who is a former ambassador to Japan, is also demanding an apology from News24 and Daily Maverick for allegedly publishing a “blatant lie” that put the safety of his family and himself at risk.

South Africa Unrest: Former Top Spy Released Without A Charge

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) on Monday confirmed that it had deployed soldiers to support the police to quell the violent looting that has spread across KwaZulu-Natal over the past 24 hours.
In a statement, the SANDF said it was deploying soldiers in Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal provinces to assist enforcement agencies bring under control the unrest that has gripped both provinces. The statement read:
<blockquote>The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has commenced with pre-deployment processes and procedures in line with a request for assistance received from the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) to assist law enforcement agencies deployed in Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal Provinces respectively to quell the unrest that has gripped both Provinces in the last few days. The deployment will commence as soon as all deployment processes are in place.
The duration and number of deployed soldiers will be determined based on the assessment of the situation on the ground by the relevant law enforcement agencies.
Furthermore, it must be emphasised that the SANDF’s deployment objective is to provide safety and a safe working environment for members of the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies whilst they carry out their constitutionally mandated law and order duties.

SA Govt Deploys Soldiers To Quell Gauteng And KZN Unrest

Some Zimbabwean nationals resident in South Africa are taking part in the ongoing looting of shops in the country amid protests that were triggered by the imprisonment of former president Jacob Zuma.
In one of the videos that have been circulating on social media platforms, a man speaking in Shona can be heard inviting people to come and collect free alcohol and meat.
In another video shot in a house, piles of groceries fill the party, with one woman, also speaking in Shona, saying she doesn’t even know some of the products that she looted.
