Former policeman Jaison Muvevi remains in a psychiatric hospital after two specialists diagnosed him with mental illness last year.
This information was said by Angeline Munyeriwa, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), during an interview with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/killer-muvevi-still-in-psychiatric-hospital/">The Herald</a> on Tuesday.
Muvevi faces four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder for crimes committed between November 2022 and January 2023.
Munyeriwa said that while all investigations into the case are complete, the trial is being postponed solely due to the accused’s ongoing mental health challenges. She said:

Jason Muvevi was examined by two medical doctors and was committed to a psychiatric institution. Investigations were also completed and the matter will only proceed after he has been released from the psychiatric institution.

Muvevi is accused of killing a man in Harare and two others in Hwedza, as well as attempting to kill another individual in Mutare.
In September 2023, Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi ordered Muvevi to be committed to a psychiatric hospital after two doctors confirmed his mental illness.
His lawyer, Blessed Matandira, argued that Muvevi was mentally unfit and requested an examination to clarify his mental health status.
Prosecutors allege that on November 19, 2022, around 9 PM, Muvevi approached Nyasha Eusen and Nyarai Round at Clan Court in Eastlea, Harare. He allegedly drew a pistol and shot Round in the head for no apparent reason.
As Eusen attempted to flee, Muvevi apprehended him and forced him into his Toyota Allion vehicle. It is claimed that Muvevi then drove to Huruyadzo Shopping Centre in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, accompanied by two unknown men.
Eusen managed to escape and subsequently reported the murder and kidnapping to the police.
However, it was only after Muvevi’s arrest for the murders in Hwedza that he was connected to the murder of Round.
On 13 January 2024, for reasons yet unclear, Muvevi drove to a Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Church shrine where his mother, Shupikai Muvevi, was in attendance together with other congregants.
At the shrine, he shot the prophet and leader of the shrine, Chrispen Kaneritsine at close range killing him instantly.
Witnesses at the church claim that his mother, shocked at the murder, retorted “What have you done my son?” Muvevi then told the church gathering to leave the shrine.
He then sped off and proceeded to Hwedza Business Centre. In the meantime, the shooting at the shrine was reported at ZRP Hwedza.
The officer-in-charge of Hwedza Police Station Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) mobilised a team of police officers and left ZRP Hwedza for Negombwe Village.
The team of police officers spotted Muvevi parked at the 25km peg along Hwedza-Murambinda Road. He was talking to an unidentified man.
The cops blocked Muvevi’s vehicle and as they were getting out of their car, he opened fire and shot Insp Hove thrice in the head while he was seated in the passenger seat.
Muvevi also allegedly shot Detective Constable Tendai Mugova three times in the pelvis and abdomen, leaving him seriously injured.
The other police officers dropped an FN rifle with a magazine and 10 rounds and a CZ pistol and ran for dear life.
After the incident, Muvevi drove to Mukamba Business Centre where he went to Ruzema Bottle Store.
According to the charge sheet, Muvevi saw Munashe Majani, a barman, outside the bar in the company of Given Pambeni and Tinashe Musangano.
He allegedly called Majani over and had a brief chat with him before shooting him. The motive for the murder was not immediately ascertained.
On 14 January, Police announced that Muvevi had been intercepted in Rusape in the Chiduku area and that he had managed to escape arrest after a shootout with the police.
Muvevi was reported to have abandoned his Toyota Allion vehicle and escaped on foot.
The police recovered a firearm, an FN rifle, he had seized the previous day after shooting a police officer dead.
On 15 January, in Mutare, Muvevi bought a new blue work-suit from Wasu Shopping Mall for ZWL$14 250 using EcoCash.
It was the worksuit he was wearing when he was arrested in Mozambique the following day.
After buying the work-suit, he boarded a Marymount-bound pirate taxi, resulting in him ending up at Mutare Boys’ High School en route to Mozambique.
He visited the school’s compound barefooted and lied that he was on a mission to kill the marauding baboons in the area.
Muvevi confronted Zvikomborero Mangorwa soon after she emerged from the shower and violently knocked on her family’s door and demanded that all the occupants move out.
He then asked for food and also produced a US$10 bill and asked Mangorwa to buy him a road-runner chicken to prepare a meal for him. She said she refused after realising that he was armed.
Muvevi didn’t know where he was, and when told he was at Mutare Boys’ High School, he asked for directions to Mozambique.
But before he left, he also confronted Mangorwa’s sister when she came back home. He told her he was on a mission to kill baboons as he had heard that they were a menace in the area, saying the shots he had fired were meant to scare away the baboons.
Muvevi said he wanted food and told the woman that he was prepared to cook his own food, but she refused. He then left when he realised that some people were coming to the house.
Raphel Nyahwema said he narrowly escaped death after Muvevi fired three shots towards him from less than 10 metres after he had tried to pick up a hoe handle on realising that he was armed.
Nyahwema said Muvevi had asked him to cook food for him but he refused. One of the bullets that missed Nyahwema perforated a geyser tank pitched at the staff quarters.
Muvevi hid in a toilet at Asei Game Park and the thickets around Mutare Boys’ High School as he evaded the detectives who were pursuing him.
After his arrest, Muvevi told the police that he crossed into Mozambique at night before hiring a motorcyclist to ferry him to Chimoio.
The cyclist, who was filmed narrating his encounter with Muvevi, said he was offered US$200 to ferry him to Chimoio.
Muvevi was arrested on the morning of 16 January in Mozambique. He had crossed into the country after being on the run since the Saturday shootout.
He was arrested by Mozambican police in the Manica Province just a few minutes after crossing into the country.
On 17 January, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed Muvevi’s extradition from Mozambique.
He was initially taken to Mutare before he was ferried to Harare ahead of his court appearance.
It was initially reported that Mozambican police refused to hand over Muvevi to their Zimbabwean counterparts because they wanted him to be tried there for the illegal possession of firearms.
However, detectives managed to bring Muvevi back to Zimbabwe on 17 January after some formalities had been completed.

Court Rules That Serial Killer Jaison Muvevi Is Mentally Unfit For Trial

Murder-accused former Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer, Jaison Muvevi on Wednesday virtually appeared at the court for his routine remand before Harare provincial magistrate Dennis Mangosi.
He is facing four counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/muvevis-psychiatric-report-still-pending/">The Herald</a> reported that Muvevi recently through his lawyer Blessed Matandira claimed that he was mentally unstable and needed to be taken to a psychiatrist for a mental examination.
In his application, which was granted by Mangosi, Matandira said Muvevi was incoherent and exhibited some mental problems during their engagements.
The outcome of the mental examination is still pending.
The magistrate remanded Muvevi in custody to 09 June pending trial at the High Court.
Muvevi allegedly shot and killed Nyarai Round (33) of Domboshava on 19 November 2022, Chrispen Kanerusine (48) of Hwedza, officer-in-charge of Hwedza police station Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) and 27-year-old Munashe Majani, a barman at Ruzema Bottlestore, Mukamba Business Centre, Hwedza on 13 January 2023.
Muvevi allegedly attempted to kill Tendai Mugova, a police officer at Hwedza Camp on 13 January and Raphael Nyahwema at Mutare Boys High School on 14 January as he sought to escape to Mozambique.
Muvevi then skipped the border into Mozambique where he was arrested on 15 January and brought back to Zimbabwe.

Muvevi’s Mental Examination Report Still Pending

A former police officer accused of murder, Jaison Muvevi, has been ordered by a Harare magistrate to undergo a psychiatric examination after claiming that he is mentally unfit.
Muvevi is facing four counts of murder and two attempted murder charges. His lawyer, Blessed Matandira, argued that his indiscriminate shooting of people showed that he was mentally unstable and wanted to be medically examined.

Murder Accused Jaison Muvevi To Undergo Psychiatric Examination

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said former CID officer Jaison Muvevi who is facing murder charges has not been acquitted by the courts.
Police remarks come after the courts cleared Muvevi of six murder cases prompting some members of the public to think that he was now a free man.

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jaison_Muvevi">Jaison Muvevi</a> who is facing multiple murder charges has been cleared of six charges following ballistic tests.
He was being investigated for killing up to 10 people.
Muvevi, a former police detective, was in the news following <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2023/01/13/gunman-shoots-4-killing-officer-in-charge-wedza-prophet-and-another-person/">a January shooting spree</a> in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Wedza">Hwedza</a> in which three people died and two more narrowly escaped death.
He was arrested in Mozambique.
Muvevi was also linked to another suspected murder that took place in November 2022 in Eastlea, Harare.
Police were eager to find out if he had any connection to the six previous unsolved murder cases that had occurred in Harare and Chitungwiza since 2020.
Muvevi’s suspected murder weapon was taken for ballistic tests about a month ago to try to link the forensic evidence to these six cold cases.
However, it has emerged that the ballistic tests did not match Muvevi’s murder weapon in the six cases.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Paul_Nyathi">Paul Nyathi</a>, confirmed that Muvevi had been cleared of six murder charges. He said:

I can confirm that on Muvevi’s charges, he remains facing four counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

A police source close to the investigations told <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/muvevi-cleared-of-six-murder-charges-but-four-remain">The Sunday Mail</a> the results from the forensic ballistic analysis did not match Muvevi’s weapon. Added the source:

Jaison Muvevi Cleared Of 6 Murder Charges After Ballistic Tests

Nyasha Eusen, who was wrongly accused of killing Nyarai Round in September last year and had his murder case withdrawn, was on Thursday, 2 February ordered to perform 700 hours of community service for theft by a Harare magistrate.
He stole two smartphones from a Harare woman after he had told her he could repair them.
Eusen was released about two weeks ago after it emerged that he had nothing to do with Round’s murder, but the now-deceased was allegedly shot dead by ex-cop Jaison Muvevi.
Days after his release from remand prison, Eusen was spotted in a commuter omnibus by the woman, Chakaonei Matipedza, leading to his arrest.
He was taken to the Harare Magistrates Court where he admitted to conning Matipedza a Samsung Note 4 and Note 5.
Eusen took the two smartphones worth US$350 after lying to Matipedza that he was in a position to repair them. After taking the phones, he vanished.
After the conviction, he was sentenced to 30 months in prison by Harare magistrate Munashe Chibanda for theft of trust property.
The magistrate set aside 10 months of the jail term for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within that period.
The court also suspended the remaining 20 months on condition that Eusen performs 700 hours of community service.
Eusen was also ordered to pay Matipedza $280 000 for the phones.
Allegations were that in September 2019 Eusan approached Matipedza at her workplace along Chiremba Road in Hatfield in Harare and told her that he could update the system of her Samsung Note 5 and Note 4.
Matipedza then asked her son, Zvikomborero Gonorenda, to accompany Eusan to the city centre where he would update the two phones’ systems.
On arrival, Eusen told Zvikomborero to wait for him at Joina City whilst he took the phones to Market Square for a systems update. He then disappeared.
Matipedza then spotted him in Epworth while aboard a city-centre-bound commuter omnibus on January 30 and informed the police leading to his arrest.

The wife of triple murder suspect <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jaison_Muvevi">Jaison_Muvevi</a> has broken silence on her husband’s alleged crimes, saying she was shocked to hear about them considering his character.

Speaking in public for the first time in an <a href="https://fb.watch/ih0V7WN6W3/?mibextid=NnVzG8">interview with online channel SMTV</a>, Muvevi’s wife expressed shock and disbelief about how her husband —who she described as a quiet and loving man —could commit such crimes.
She said:

He was a good man, he was quiet and loving. We have two children together —one is 3 years old while the other one is a year old.

She revealed that even though they were still married, Muvevi left their matrimonial home and was staying with another woman.

Jaison left the house in April 2022, I would just tell myself that he would come back, but I later found that he was now living with another woman.
After retiring from the police force, he was now trading in gold, he had mines.
On the fateful day, I had gone to pick up my child from school. I left my phone in the car and when I returned, I noticed I had a lot of missed calls. I just selected a number from them and returned the call, and that is when I was told Jaison had allegedly murdered three people in Hwedza.
At that moment, I was shocked. I was shaken, couldn’t even drive. I asked how that was even possible.

A Harare man who was arrested in connection with the murder of an Eastlea man on 19 November last year had his charges withdrawn before plea after police arrested former police detective <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jaison_Muvevi">Jaison Muvevi</a> on suspicion he was the one who killed the man.
Nyasha Eusen had his case withdrawn before plea by Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi after spending two months in remand prison.
The State on Monday, 23 January told the court that they are withdrawing the matter before plea for lack of evidence.
Allegations were that on 19 November 2022, at around 0900 hours Eusen was in the company of the deceased at Clan Court, Eastlea, Harare when they met Muvevi.
While there, Muvevi withdrew his pistol and shot the deceased Nyarai Round once on the head for no apparent reason.
Eusen tried to run away but was caught and Muvevi bundled into his Toyota Allion.
It is alleged that Muvevi, in the company of two other unknown men, drove his vehicle to Huruyadzo shopping centre in Chitungwiza.
Eusen reportedly then managed to later escape.

Man Wrongfully Charged For Murder In Eastlea Freed After Muvevi's Arrest

The leader of an apostolic sect in Hwedza who was allegedly killed by former police detective Jaison Muvevi on 13 January this year had reportedly foretold his death.
Chrispen Kanerusine (62), who was popularly known as Madzibaba Sirage from the Johane Masowe Chishanu Nguwo Chena was shot dead at point-blank range while ministering to his congregants at his shrine.
A fellow apostolic sect leader Edison Moyo, also known as Madzibaba Eddie, told The Standard that Kanerusine had prophesied his death. He said:

A week before, he prophetically told congregants that he saw a flag at half-mast near the shrine.
He said efforts to raise the flag from half-mast were in vain.
</blockquote>
Moyo said on the fateful day, some men from a different apostolic sect shrine made a prophecy about the bloody events at Kanerusine’s shrine.
They allegedly warned the sect’s members to stop attending meetings involving Kanerusine and said blood was going to be shed at the shrine.
The men are said to have performed some divination rituals including going around the shrine three times. Said Moyo:

After that, Madzibaba Sirage took over and that is when Muvevi came and shot him dead.
If the three men had travelled earlier the death could have been avoided, and we could have prayed fervently but like what he had told the people, the flag refused to be raised higher.

Those who frequented Madzibaba Sirage’s shrine said he had a gift for foretelling the future as well as assisting those with afflictions spiritually.
They said besides exercising his spiritual gifts, Madzibaba Sirage would move around villages and business centres selling different wares among them leather belts.

"Murdered Hwedza Apostolic Sect Leader Foretold Own Death"

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, has warned the media against inadvertently making suspected murderer Jaison Muvevi a cult hero.
Mangwana was commenting on a tweet by a local tabloid showing pictures of Muvevi “in happier times”.
Mangwana said the media should be sensitive to the families of the people who were allegedly shot dead by Muvevi. <a href="https://twitter.com/nickmangwana/status/1616042911426281472">He said</a>:

I think the Media has to be careful about the way they are covering this story.
There is a risk of creating a celebrity or folk hero out of a possible cold-blooded, sociopathic killer.
There are families whose lives have been irreversibly damaged by his actions. Be sensitive to them.

Muvevi was arrested on Monday, 16 January for allegedly killing three people in Hwedza on 13 January.
His alleged victims were Chrispen Kanerusine (48) of Hwedza, Hwedza officer-in-charge Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) and 27-year-old Munashe Majani, who was a bartender at Ruzema Bottle Store, Mukamba Business Centre, Hwedza.
He has also been charged with the murder of Nyarai Round (33) of Domboshava.
Police are now investigating leads linking the ex-detective to six other murder cases that took place in and around Harare and Chitungwiza over the past three years.

"Be Careful Not To Make Muvevi A Legend", Mangwana Tells Media

Jaison Muvevi, a retired Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer who gunned down three people in Hwedza on Friday, 13 January was a feared man in the police service sector, former colleagues reportedly told a Rusape villager.
Muvevi (42), was said to be well-trained and not an easy person to attack during operations.
He has been likened to another former detective Joseph Nemaisa who single-handedly confronted five armed robbers who were holding his family hostage at his Chadcombe home in December 2021 and killed three of them while the other two ran away.
CID officers who were pursuing Muvevi from Hwedza where he shot dead three people and seriously injured another caught up with him in the Chiduku area of Rusape.
Narrating the events leading to Muvevi’s disappearance from Chiduku on Saturday, 14 January, a villager who is a nephew of the late Prophet Sirage (Crispen Kanerusine) who had been shot dead the previous day, said he gave the killer drinking water unaware that he killed his uncle.
Madzibaba Sirage’s nephew, only identified as (Rob) said he was shocked when he later learned that Muvevi had gunned down his uncle in Hwedza. He said:

I do not regret giving him water. It was my uncle who was fighting his killer in death and I think he also wanted Muvevi to be exposed as he tried to run away from the crime scene in Wedza.
Mukomana (Muvevi) was fleeing from police towards Chiduku driving his white sedan vehicle, Muvevi fired three shots at the officers who were in pursuit at Maruwani Bridge.
He then fired another shot which hit the police vehicle and immediately reversed his vehicle before driving for about 500m, turning into a small footpath leading to my homestead.

Rob said Muvevi then entered his homestead and entertained him unaware of what had happened. He said:

After greetings, Muvevi asked for some drinking water which I gave him.
He then inquired about gold mining areas and I showed him the area by just pointing at the mountains nearby.
He also asked for matches and I called my son who brought a box and gave him.

As Muvevi was explaining to the nephew that he can identify gold when he sees it, his phone vibrated. Said Madzibaba Sirage’s nephew:

As he tried to get his phone from his jeans’ back pocket, I saw two pistols from his jean’s back pockets.
I did not panic though I asked myself silently why he was carrying the pistols.
I then noticed some blood stains on his other shoe. I then called my son and quickly excused myself but he was not bothered about it.

"Muvevi Was Feared In The Police Service Sector"

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating leads linking ex-detective Jaison Muvevi (42) to six other murder cases that took place in and around Harare and Chitungwiza over the past three years.
Muvevi was arrested on Monday, 16 January for allegedly killing three people in Hwedza on 13 January.
His alleged victims were Chrispen Kanerusine (48) of Hwedza, Hwedza officer-in-charge Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) and 27-year-old Munashe Majani, who was a bartender at Ruzema Bottle Store, Mukamba Business Centre, Hwedza.
He has also been charged with the murder of Nyarai Round (33) of Domboshava.
On Friday, prosecutors added another murder charge after detectives investigating the Hwedza shootings established that Muvevi could have killed another man in Harare last year.
Muvevi is presently before the courts facing four murder charges and two attempted murder charges.
Police suspect the same weapon used by Muvevi during the shooting spree in Hwedza was the one used to fatally shoot Nyarai Round in Eastlea on 19 November 2022.
The Sunday Mail reported sources close to the investigations as saying that the weapon in question is said to have been linked to six other murders dating back to 2020.
Bullet casings obtained from the respective crime scenes as evidence have been sent for forensic ballistic analysis to ascertain whether they were discharged from Muvevi’s firearm.
ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the new development but did not give more details. He said:

We are looking at the possibility that Muvevi could have committed other cases using his firearm.
Right now, we are in the process of verifying with the ballistic analysis.
Remember, through the ballistic analysis, we managed to link him to the murder which happened on November 19 last year. We are certainly looking at that possibility.

Muvevi Linked To Six More Murder Cases In Harare And Chitungwiza

Former <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Criminal_Investigation_Department_(CID)">Criminal Investigation Department (CID)</a> officer and murder suspect Jaison Muvevi allegedly killed another person in Harare.
According to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/killer-cop-muvevi-hit-with-another-charge-court-told-of-how-he-killed-four-victims-motive-remains-mystery/">NewZimbabwe</a>, Muvevi allegedly shot an unidentified man in the head “for no apparent reason” on November 19, 2021, in the Eastlea neighbourhood of Harare.
The court was informed that Muvevi was with two unidentified men, while the deceased was with one Nyasha Eusen.
Following the victim’s death, it is claimed that Muvevi and his accomplices pushed Eusen into their Toyota Allion and drove to the Huruyadzo Shopping Center in Chitungwiza. Eusen later managed to escape. 
The court was also informed that Muvevi accidentally shot himself in the left elbow during the altercation.
Police found an x-ray report in his car he dumped following a shootout in the Hwedza area. 
<h2>Arrest:</h2>
Muvevi was arrested this week in Mozambique in connection with the murder of three people on 13 January 2023 in Hwedza.
It is alleged Muvevi arrived at Crispen Kanerusine’s shrine while in the company of one Shupikai Muvevi.
He was dressed in all black against the church’s doctrine and was given a white cloth to cover himself with.
The court was further told Muvevi sat with other worshipers as Kanerusine delivered his sermon.
Muvevi suddenly went to his vehicle which was parked close to the shrine and came back with an FN browning pistol which he used to shoot the preacher once in the head.
After learning about the event, the Officer in Charge of Wedza Police Station, Inspector Maxwell Hove, assembled his response team and went to the shrine to conduct an investigation.
They met Muvevi along the Wedza-Murambinda High Way and blocked his vehicle intending to confront him.
Muvevi then started firing at them, hitting Hove three times in his head and the officer died on the spot.
He also shot Constable Tendai Mugova in the stomach and on his pelvis.
Muvevi made a U-turn and drove towards Murambinda business centre where he shot and killed Munashe Munjani after a brief chat with him.
On January 14 Muvevi went to Mutare boys high school where he fired three shots but missed the second complainant who had refused to give him food. 
Muvevi then skipped the border and was arrested the following day in Mozambique.

The mother of the late Wedza police station Officer in Charge Inspector Maxwell Hove, who was allegedly shot dead by <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Jaison_Muvevi">Jaison Muvevi</a>, has blamed her son’s death on obsolete Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) equipment.
Hove (43), as well as apostolic sect member Cripsen Kanerusine (62) and Munashe Mujani (20) —a shop attendant, <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/gunman-shoots-4-killing-officer-in-charge-wedza-prophet-and-another-person/">were shot dead by Muvevi</a> in Wedza on January 13.
A video circulating on social media shows Inspector Hove’s emotional mother telling senior ZRP officials at the late top cop’s burial in Chinda Village in Mberengwa, that the outdated police vehicle and gun involved in the frantic shooting incident which also left another officer seriously injured, is to blame for her son’s death.
Said the mother:

I am a bereaved mother whose heart bleeds for her son’s death. Forgive me, but you have to listen to me, I am very hurt because my son could not escape from the police vehicle he was in because its door could not open.
How is it possible that the door of a police station vehicle failed to open? Even if you were in my shoes, you would be hurt under such circumstances as a mother. Maybe if the door of the vehicle had opened, the story could have been different.
If that vehicle had doors expected of a police vehicle, maybe my son would be alive.
Secondly, I was told the gun he was using failed to discharge. The ZRP needs state of the art firearms not those of the Ian Smith era that are outdated. Provided modern weapons, our police officers will feel safe in the conduct of their duties.

Mother Of Murdered Wedza Cop Blames Outdated Police Equipment For Son’s Death

The family of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jaison_Muvevi">Jaison Muvevi</a> Wednesday approached two families of the three victims that he shot dead in Hwedza last week and apologised for the heinous crime.
According to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200006302/cop-killers-family-pleads-for-forgiveness">NewsDay</a>, the family enlisted the help of ZANU PF, police, and local traditional authorities to interact with grieving families.
The negotiation team, led by Jaison’s cousin brother Bornface Mudzamiri, initially went to Musekanehuku village to apologise to the late Munashe Mujanhi’s family and try to make amends.
They made the customary payment of $300 USD to begin the discussions and to acknowledge that their son erred by committing a major offence.
They afterwards apologised to the family elders and went to the house of the late Madzibaba Silage (actual name Crispen Kanerusine).
The family of Madzibaba Silage was offered US$300 by the Muvevis as a funeral gift, but the Kanerusine family refused to accept the gift.
Madzibaba Simbarashe Nengomasha, a well-known head of the apostolic cult, was required to persuade the family to accept the funds.
The Kanerusine family demanded the presence of the accused’s mother who reportedly stays in Mutare. Said the Kanerusine family:
The Muvevi family was also instructed by the Kanerusine family to return and ask the local traditional chiefs for advice on how to exact the deceased’s spirit’s vengeance.
Muvevi’s family is scheduled to meet in Mberengwa, Midlands province with the family of Inspector Maxwell Hove, the third victim and the officer in charge of Hwedza who was also shot and killed.
<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/fugitive-suspected-cop-killer-jaison-muvhevhi-arrested-report/">Muvevi, a former CID officer, was arrested</a> on Monday in Mozambique while fleeing from justice. He appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court yesterday charged with illegal possession of firearms. He was remanded in custody until tomorrow.
The murders were triggered by accusations that he was involved in rituals and occultism.

Cop Killer Jaison Muvevi's Family Apologises

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga said that people who possess unregistered firearms shall be deemed to be planning to commit serious crimes.
Matanga said police officers will not hesitate to kill all perpetrators of serious crimes such as armed robbery.
He was speaking at the funeral wake of Inspector Maxwell Hove, who was killed in the line of duty in Hwedza by Jaison Muvevi, a former police officer. Said Matanga:

I wish to categorically state that those with unregistered firearms shall be deemed to have criminal intent.
Furthermore, as police officers, we will not hesitate to shoot to kill all perpetrators of heinous crimes such as armed robbery, which are making society apprehensive.

In August 2022, President Emmerson Mnangagwa granted a presidential amnesty on the voluntary surrender of firearms and ammunition.

Police Will Not Hesitate To “Shoot To Kill” Armed Robbers - Matanga

Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers handling the matter in which former policeman and gold dealer Jaison Muvevi (43) is facing several charges including murder have requested for more time to conduct further investigations, <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/detectives-ask-for-more-time-with-muvevi/">reported The Herald.</a>
The detectives on Wednesday asked the court for three more days with Muvevi to allow them time to further manage cases.
The Investigating Officer in the matter, detective Pikisai Chikwazo, said they want more time to travel to Hwedza (Wedza) for indications and to interview him.
Muvevi (39) appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Wednesday, 17 January.
He was complaining of experiencing difficulties in sleeping because of two pairs of handcuffs he had.
However, Muvevi’s lawyer Samson Dzingira opposed the application arguing that the police can always interview him while in the hands of prison officers.
Dzingira asked detectives to take Muvevi back to court tomorrow since the expected 48 hours in police custody have not lapsed.
Magistrate Mangosi was on Wednesday expected to make a ruling on the application for further detention.
Parson Dziva appeared for the State.
Muvevi allegedly shot and killed Crispen Mubvana Kanerusine (62), a self-styled prophet who was operating from a Johanne Masowe shrine at Negombwe Village in Wedza.
He shot the elderly man at point-blank range right in front of his congregants after he allegedly gave him a prophecy he did not like.
Muvevi’s second victim was Wedza officer in charge Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) who was unarmed and sitting in the front passenger side of a police truck.
He shot the police officer three times, killing him instantly, before targetting Detective Constable Tendai Mugova who was armed with a CZ pistol and had taken cover under the police truck.
Police said Mugova was shot three times – on the left hip, stomach and right shoulder, but survived the shooting.
Muvevi then disarmed the police officers, took their guns and jumped into his vehicle and sped off towards Goto.
Muvevi’s third victim was a 20-year-old bartender, Munashe Mujanhi, who he shot and killed for unknown reasons.
The following day, 14 January, Muvevi exchanged fire with detectives who were on his trail in Rusape but escaped unhurt.
He, however, abandoned his Toyota Allion vehicle and an FN rifle he had seized from police officers in Hwedza the previous day.
On Sunday, 15 January, Muvevi was spotted at Mutare Boys’ High School looking for food and was confronted by the caretaker’s son who was “drunk”.
He allegedly fired three shots at the man but he missed him. Muvevi then melted into a nearby forest.
While in Mutare, Muvevi used his EcoCash wallet to buy the worksuit he was wearing when he was apprehended.
He then attempted to hire a motorbike to take him to Chimoio town, which is 100 kilometers from Mutare’s Forbes Border Post.
According to the motorcyclist who was filmed narrating the encounter, Muvevi asked to be transported to Chimoio for US$200, but when the motorcyclist refused, he pulled out a revolver and threatened to shoot him.
Muvevi was finally arrested as he attempted to board a kombi headed toward Chimoio.

He shot Hove during a shootout with the police after the officers responded to a murder he was accused of. Muvevi is himself a former ZRP officer but was now a gold dealer.

According to reports from, Muvevi attempted to hire a motorbike to take him to Chimoio town, which is 100 kilometers from Mutare’s Forbes Border Post.
According to the motorcyclist who was filmed narrating the encounter, Muvevi asked to be transported to Chimoio for $200, but when the motorcyclist refused, he pulled out a revolver and threatened to shoot him.
Later, as he attempted to board a kombi headed toward Chimoio. This is when Mozambican law enforcement officers apprehended him.
Initial signs indicated that Muvevi would likely first be tried in a Mozambican court to respond to accusations of border-jumping into the country and brandishing a gun at a police officer.
After the necessary steps for extradition were finished, the Mozambicans turned Muvevi over to the Zimbabwean authorities. He has since been transferred to Harare to face trial.
Muvevi is suspected of murdering an apostolic church leader, Chrispen Kanerusine, in cold blood. He is also accused of killing a Hwedza ZRP officer Inspector Hove and, a bartender Mujanhi.

ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Tuesday evening said Muvevi had been successfully brought back to Zimbabwe. Said Nyathi:

Police Confirm Muvevi's Extradition From Mozambique

The former policeman who allegedly shot dead three people and critically injured another in Wedza on 13 January before his arrest in Mozambique was extradited to Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
The suspect, Jaison Muvevi, attempted to flee into Mozambique but was arrested by citizens and handed over to Mozambican police officers on Monday, 16 January.
The Herald reported sources as saying Muvevi was brought back to Zimbabwe this Tuesday after some formalities had been completed.
On Monday there were concerns that Muvevi was likely to first appear in a Mozambican court to answer to charges of illegal entry into the country and pointing a firearm at a police officer.
However, a team from the CID Homicide Harare managed to negotiate with their counterparts for his repatriation back into the country.
Muvevi was reportedly taken to CID Mutare where he was being interviewed.

ZRP Secures Muvevi's Extradition From Mozambique

Mozambican authorities have reportedly declined to release Wedza triple murder suspect Jaison Muvevi to Zimbabwean police detectives after they decided to prosecute him on gun charges.
Muvevi was found in possession of two guns when he was arrested by Mozambican police with the help of members of the public on Monday, 16 January.
According to ZimLive, Zimbabwean detectives led by Detective Chief Inspector Alexander Jachi from CID Homicide in Harare went over to Mozambique for a meeting with their counterparts but returned home empty-handed.
They were advised that Muvevi will be taken to a local court on charges of illegal possession of firearms.
ZimLive reported a source at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) as saying it could be months before Mozambique extradites Muvevi to Zimbabwe. Said the source:

By deciding to prosecute the suspect on gun charges, we face a real possibility that he will first go on trial and if convicted serve a jail sentence in Mozambique. It could be many months or even years before we lay our hands on him.
… The two countries enjoy cordial relations and there’s a lot of cooperation in the area of security.
It’s possible, for instance, that Muvevi can be sentenced in Mozambique and be handed over to Zimbabwe to serve his sentence here while being put on trial for crimes committed in Zimbabwe.

"It Could Be Months, Or Even Years Before Mozambique Hands Over Wedza Triple Murderer To Zimbabwe"

The former police officer <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jaison_Muvhevhi">Jaison Muvevi</a> who was arrested in Mozambique on Monday, reportedly fired shots at Mutare Boys’ High School in Mutare on Sunday after he had evaded police during a shootout in Rusape the previous day.
Muvevi had been on the run since Friday last week after he gunned down three people in Wedza, including a top police officer, and injured a detective constable.
Speaking to The Manica Post, on Monday, Mutare Boys’ High school head Phillip Padhuze, said Muvevi fired three shots at the school and missed the caretaker’s son who was unharmed.
Muvevi, who was barefooted, allegedly fired shots after he was confronted by some of the residents at the school after he had approached their compound looking for food. Said Padhuze:

Yesterday, on Sunday, 15 January 2023, a man arrived at the grounds and he was armed.
He arrived at the grandstand where some of our staff reside and he spoke to the women who were there and they realised that he was armed.
He fired three shots and the spent cartridges were recovered. As for the learners, they are all safe.
He didn’t speak to any learner or teacher so all the learners are safe. We informed the police of the development and they came and attended the scene.
It was late when the police arrived but they did their best because we saw a helicopter hovering over, though it was late…
They gave us armed guards who spent the whole night guarding the premises.
We are grateful that no lives were lost. The shots that were fired were targeted at one of our boys, the caretaker’s son but he was not injured, I think the shooter missed him.

The Manica Post reported sources as saying Muvevi took a biker from Marymount in Mutare and failed to pay for the transport and produced a pistol.
He then took a kombi from Mumango (Machipanda in Mozambique) to Manica.
The biker reportedly alerted the police and Muvevi was caught before he could cross the control post.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jaison_Muvhevhi">Jaison Muvevi</a> who has been on the run since Friday last week after he gunned down three people in Wedza, including a top police officer, and injured a detective constable.
