<p>Cement manufacturer Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) Zimbabwe has said the cement manufacturing sector has enough production capacity to meet the demands of the country.</p>
<p>Speaking while briefing the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Industry and Commerce this Wednesday which was visiting their offices in Bulawayo, PPC Zimbabwe Managing Director Kelibone Masiyane said:</p>

<p>As the cement manufacturing industry, we do have enough capacity to meet the demands of the country.</p>
<p>We however some time last year had an unfortunate incident where Lafarge cement had an accident that led to the closure of the plant while we were also having major maintenance works.</p>
<p>Hence we had two major players down leading to a shortage. However, as the cement industry, we have the capacity.</p>

<p>The visit by the committee was part of its fact-finding visits to cement manufacturing industries.</p>
<p>The chairperson of the committee, Joshua Sacco (ZANU PF), explained the reasons for the fact-finding visit. He said:</p>

<p>The main reason for our visit is to look at the capacity as in do we as a country have the capacity to produce cement as you know there is a lot of construction being done around the country.</p>
<p>There is a perception that we do not have enough cement in the country so as a committee we have been looking at this to say do we have enough capacity to produce as Zimbabwe. We are looking at pricing as well as quality issues.</p>
<p>We have come across a number of issues that we feel the government should address and come on board.</p>
<p>We are very happy to report that Lafarge they have received support from the government, and they have installed a vertical mill.</p>
<p>PPC has also received support from the government in establishing a milling plant in Harare. So we see that there is close interaction between government and business.</p>
<p>However, there is a need to look into revamping the National Railways of Zimbabwe to reduce the cost of logistics.</p>
<p>Issues of energy supply are some of the issues we came across. Hence we will engage the relevant authorities</p>

Cement Manufacturers Say They Have Enough Capacity To Meet Demand

<p>ZANU PF Central Committee member and Chimanimani East MP, Joshua Sacco, was berated by his constituents for lying to the nation on the situation in the district after Cyclone Idai hit the area.</p>
<p>While in the company of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga at Chimanimani’s Skyline on Wednesday, Sacco was roundly booed by the crowd.</p>
<p>A teacher at St Charles Lwanga, in an interview with Newsday on Thursday, said:</p>
<blockquote><p>I was not happy when Sacco was on air claiming that our children had been rescued while we were still marooned and desperately looking for rescue assistance at the school. I received communication that Sacco had actually lied on air.</p>
<p>We were struggling and desperately waiting to be rescued at the school, but one was busy lying to the world in the comfort of their home.</p></blockquote>
<p>St Charles Lwanga students and teachers had to walk 15km on foot from the school to Skyline junction where they ‘forced’ soldiers to ferry them to Chipinge Hospital. Meanwhile, two people were killed by a rockfall at the school, a form one pupil and a security guard.</p>

Joshua Sacco 'Lied On Air' That Things Were Okay At St Charles Lwanga

<p>President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga were both forced to defend a Zanu PF MP as they toured areas ravaged by Cyclone Idai on Wednesday, ZimLive Reports.</p>
<p>Joshua Kurt Sacco won the Chimanimani East parliamentary seat with 16,492 votes, defeating the MDC’S Maxwell Mdhluri who polled 3,034 votes.</p>
<p>However, locals expressed their displeasure towards him when Mnangagwa and Chiwenga visited the district on Wednesday. Reports indicate that Sacco was jeered when Chiwenga praised him for his efforts to raise the alarm about the devastation in the district. Said Chiwenga:</p>
<blockquote><p>For the police and the soldiers to get to you, we were working with Sacco. He’s the one who woke us up on Saturday to tell us of the tragedy that had occurred here.</p></blockquote>
<p>Mnangagwa also hailed Sacco and defended him from the angry villagers. He said;</p>
<blockquote><p>This one that you say you don’t like, I like him (tapping Sacco’s shoulder). That’s your problem (that you dislike him) because I, as the ruler of this country, who rules over you, I like him.</p></blockquote>
