The Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube, has urged property owners to consider reducing their rentals which are deemed too high and unaffordable by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Ncube said the high rentals have resulted in the closure of a number of premises as most businesses were leaving Bulawayo’s Central Business District (CBD).
Officially opening Ngamla Supermarket at Nkulumane Shopping Mall recently, Ncube said:
<blockquote>
These premises are too expensive and a lot of shops have been closed as people move out due to high rentals.
As Old Mutual, you should consider reviewing your rentals here (Nkulumane Shopping Mall) and create a user-friendly atmosphere as you can see most of the shops are vacant.
You would find major supermarkets, pharmacies and banks, hence people did not need to go all the way into the CBD from their residential areas.
However, currently, it is a different story altogether as most of the facilities are all closed up and can now be accessed in the CBD.

A recent snap survey conducted by The Sunday News established that rentals for shop space in the CBD cost from US$150 for those who share and US$200 for small spaces.

Minister Urges Property Owners To Reduce Rentals

Government officials in Bulawayo have expressed concern over the marginalisation of local contractors when it comes to the awarding of contracts that involve menial jobs in the Matabeleland region.
This comes after some people in Harare received a contract to clear the bushes along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway road, defying a policy that locals must be the ones contracted to do such jobs.
This was revealed by former war veterans minister and ZANU PF Politburo member, Tshinga Dube, at a press conference with Bulawayo journalists on the occasion of Africa Day, Tuesday, CITE reports. Said, Dube:
<blockquote>Just four days ago, Cde Judith Ncube, the minister phoned me and said there are people who received a contract in Harare to clear the bushes along the roads, the Bulawayo to Victoria Falls and they are coming here.
I was in Harare myself. They are coming, carrying their people, with choppers to come and cut trees here.</blockquote>
Dube said he advised the provincial and devolution minister to put a stop to that as that defied the devolution policy. He said:
<blockquote>I said, ‘No, no but you are a minister of devolution yourself, so you stop them and say no. You have people here who can do that.’
I don’t think you need to go for training just to chop wood anyone can chop wood.
Let people there discuss with people in Matabeleland North because that’s where they live.
Hire boys along the road just from Bulawayo and then they can chop wood</blockquote>
Dube also criticised some people who committed offences and hid behind the president’s name.
Ncube later told CITE in an interview that devolution was necessary so that local youth also benefit from such job opportunities. Ncube said:
<blockquote>You will recall that when President Mnangagwa came to commission water projects in Nyamandlovu, he spoke of the Gwayi-Shangani pipeline and said for devolution, not one company must do the job but several so that locals have a role in working on that pipeline.
We all have a role in building Zimbabwe so we must listen and correct each other where we go wrong.</blockquote>

While addressing mourners at Stanley Nleya’s funeral service at White City Stadium yesterday, Bulawayo Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube urged mourners to use their own currency, The ZWL Dollar and shun other currencies from other countries.
Ncube’s sentiments came amid reports that some businesses are refusing to accept the local currency which has continued to deteriorate in value on a daily basis. Ncube said:

Lets Use Our Own Currency & Shun Currencies From Other Countries- Judith Ncube To Nleya Mourners

Bulawayo’s designated COVID-19 center Thorngrove Infectious Diseases Hospital ‘s renovation is 70% complete and the hospital still needs $46 Million to be complete the renovations in 9 days, The Chronicle reports.
The matter came to light when Bulawayo Provincial Covid-19 taskforce led by Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Judith Ncube was touring the hospital and Ekhusileni Medical centre when the renovation project manager Mr Patson Mashamba said:
<blockquote>On the isolation unit alone, we are now about 70 percent complete. What is now outstanding is plastering, brickwork, flooring, epochs, tiling and electrical works. For the isolation alone, we need to be done by Sunday next week. We need about $46 million to finish off the works</blockquote>
According to Bulawayo City Council which runs the hospital, treasury is aware of their needs and their quantities. After the renovation, the hospital will have a capacity of 40 beds and 26 patients can be placed under oxygen-assisted breathing.

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bulawayo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bulawayo</a> Provincial Affairs Minister Judith Ncube has condemned the hoarding of subsidised roller meal by some small-scale traders who then sell it at exorbitant prices on the black market.
Ncube’s remarks come as numerous reports indicate that subsidised mealie meal is being sold for between $70 and $80 on the parallel market while the gazetted price is $50. Said Ncube:
<blockquote>I’ve received this communication from concerned citizens who spoke about this strongly. One person called me I think just an hour ago. She raised concerns that there were some people who were now hoarding the subsidised roller meal and selling it on the black market, she was appealing to Government to take action
Greed and corruption will not take us anywhere as a people. Those involved in this should stop forthwith. They should allow other residents to benefit from the Government’s programmes. We are in a drought period. Checking on the weather conditions, we might be headed for another drought.</blockquote>
In November this year, Finance and Economic Development Minister, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mthuli_Ncube" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mthuli Ncube</a>, announced the scrapping of subsidies on mealie-meal and flour in line with his austerity measures.
However, a few days later, President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> reversed the move, saying he was not consulted when the decision was made.

"Greed & Corruption Won't Take Us Anywhere", Minister Condemns Hoarders Of Subsidised Mealie Meal

The recently introduced online nurses’ application portal has been slammed by Bulawayo Provincial minister Judith Ncube, who called for the whole process to be nullified after it “discriminated” against applicants from Matabeleland.
Speaking during a meeting of ZANU PF politburo and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zanu-PF_Central_Committee" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">central committee</a> members in the presence of Vice President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kembo_Mohadi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kembo Mohadi</a> on Sunday which was held at Stanley Square in Makokoba, Ncube said:
<blockquote>Residents’ representatives came to my office over the issue and recommended that the praesidium nullify this year’s nursing intake and employ the military way of recruiting staffers.
Army recruitment starts at the district level. This is what residents are proposing not what happened in the enrolment of prospective nurses.</blockquote>
This year’s recruitment of student nurses stirred a hornet’s nest in Matabeleland after the majority of nurses selected for training at Bulawayo’s <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mpilo_Central_Hospital" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mpilo Central Hospital</a> and United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) were predominantly from outside the province.
Reports indicate that UBH enrolled 10 students from Harare, 4 from Bulawayo and 2 from Matabeleland North and South provinces, while the same regional imbalances were also witnessed at Mpilo Central Hospital.
