The High Court has ordered the return of Justice Mayor Wadyajena’s fleet of vehicles, which were seized by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) in 2022.
The seized vehicles, including haulage trucks and a Lamborghini SUV, were part of an investigation into allegations that the former Gokwe-Nembudziya MP (ZANU PF) defrauded the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (COTTCO).
Wadyajena, along with six others, including some COTTCO managers, was arrested and charged in 2022 with three counts of money laundering and three counts of fraud.
They were accused of defrauding COTTCO of millions of US dollars by creating false invoices for the supply of bale ties to the state-owned company.
Prosecutors alleged that the funds obtained from these activities were laundered through various companies in which Wadyajena and his associates had interests.
On February 6, 2023, the magistrates’ court refused a further remand, advising the state to proceed via summons. However, ZACC retained possession of the vehicles, claiming they needed 30 days to conduct parallel investigations.
Wadyajena subsequently applied for and received a High Court order for the return of his vehicles. A judgment in his favour was issued in May, but ZACC appealed the decision to the Supreme Court.
In response, Wadyajena filed an urgent High Court application for leave to execute the judgment while awaiting the Supreme Court’s determination.
In his ruling, Justice Tawnda Chitapi agreed with Wadyajena’s legal team that the continued seizure of his trucks was prejudicing him of potential revenue.
The judge said, “trucks are meant to be mobile and not be parked”.

The High Court said that the vehicles taken from Wadyajena should be given back to him. His vehicles were taken by ZACC because they thought he did bad things with money at COTTCO. Some people, including Wadyajena, were arrested for money laundering and fraud. They were accused of stealing lots of money from false invoices. The court said ZACC had to return the vehicles, but ZACC wanted more time to investigate. Wadyajena asked the court to make ZACC give back the vehicles. The judge agreed because Wadyajena needed his trucks to make money.

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Lands and Agriculture, chaired by Gokwe Nembudziya MP Justice Mayor 
Wadyajena (Zanu PF), this Thursday booted out officials from the Ministry of Agriculture after they failed to present documents with regards to contracts awarded to different companies for winter wheat programme.
The officials, Remigio Makoni (acting director of procurement) and Peter Mudzamiri (director of finance) had appeared before the portfolio on behalf of Lands and Agriculture secretary John Bhasera who was supposed to give oral evidence on the state of financing and preparedness for the 2020 winter cropping season.
Before dismiss the duo, Wadyajena said:
<blockquote>The information on the contracts that you submitted is insufficient. We ask you to go back and tell your ministry secretary (Bhasera) that we want him here and that he must bring the information on the contracts as Parliament business takes precedence over other business.</blockquote>
It is strongly believed that the Ministry of Agriculture in the past failed to account for funds meant for Command Agriculture programme.
This comes when the country is facing starvation due to El Nino drought and poor agriculture policies in the past two decades.

Independent legislator for Norton Constituency, Themba Mliswa has sensationally accused ZANU PF MP for Gokwe Nembudziya, Justice Mayor Wadyajena of having an affair with a married parliament staffer.
In a series of Tweets directed at the ZANU PF legislator, Mliswa said
