Former Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) Chief Executive Officer <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Karikoga_Kaseke">Karikoga Kaseke</a> has died.
His wife, Irene Kaseke confirmed the death to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/former-zta-chief-executive-karikoga-kaseke-dies/">The Herald</a>, saying Kaseke died at a local hospital in Harare where he was admitted following deterioration in his health.
Kaseke suffered a stroke in 2018 which forced him to retire from ZTA on health grounds.
The retirement came as a recommendation from a Medical Board and was effective 1 July 2021.
He fell ill in November 2018 and Givemore Chidzidzi was appointed ZTA’s acting Chief Executive. Before him, Rita Likukuma acted in that position.
Kaseke was listed in the BSR of 18 July 2020 as a beneficiary in the 2007 RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme, as a result of the Fast Track Land Reform Programme.
He was listed under the thematic group “Senior Civil Servants”. He allegedly received US$58 299.00. 
His sister, Hazvinei Kaseke-Nyamupinga described his late brother as a protector and a unifier in their family.
Mourners are gathered at number 38 Boscobel Drive West, Highlands in Harare.

Former ZTA CEO Karikoga Kaseke Has Died

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has retired its chief executive, Dr Karikoga Kaseke, on medical grounds.
ZTA board said Dr Kaseke fell ill in November 2018 and has not been well since then. Pindula News presents ZTA’s statement that announced Kaseke’s retirement:

The Board of Directors of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority wishes to advise the tourism industry and all stakeholders that Dr Karikoga Kaseke has been retired from the post of Chief Executive of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority after a long period of indisposition. Dr Kaseke fell ill in November 2018 and has not been well since then. His retirement followed the recommendations of a medical Board and is effective 01 July 2021. </blockquote>

Dr Kaseke served the organisation as its chief executive from June 2005 up until his retirement.
ZTA works closely with the <a class="new" href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/index.php?title=Ministry_of_Tourism_and_Hospitality&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1" title="Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality (page does not exist)">Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality</a> to promote tourism in Zimbabwe. It also runs the Miss Zimbabwe beauty pageant with the aim of equipping Zimbabwean models with the skills to market Zimbabwe abroad.

Karikoga Kaseke Has Been Retired From Being ZTA's Chief Executive

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) through its chief executive officer Karikoga Kaseke has attacked some hoteliers for “sabotaging the government’s efforts.” This comes after some top hotel operators are reported to have asked buyers coming for the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo to pay for services. ZTA wants the buyers to be accommodated for free saying that country will benefit in the long run when those buyers recommend Zimbabwe to their countrymen. Kaseke went as far as saying that laws should be amended to make the hotels comply.
In an interview, Kaseke said:
<blockquote>All these cited expos and many others across the globe are supported mainly by tourism players. But in Zimbabwe, only Bronte Hotel and some small players from as far as Hwange have always been supportive of the cause of the expo, the so-called giants have been lukewarm.
Bronte Hotel sees value which unfortunately other players like RTG and African Sun don’t see. Surely, I don’t believe the hospitality industry is failing to provide accommodation and food to buyers that are coming to see their products.
In Kenya, industry players compete in a bidding process to host buyers because they know once they accommodate them they enhance their chances of being included in packages. How does the industry expect Government to do everything for them, including feeding the buyers?
The same would be said about other tour operators that are refusing to play ball. We have brought in buyers to see and familiarise with our products but again they expect us to pay for the delegates to sample those products. What a shame!
The industry has been sporadic in terms of supporting this fair. Going forward, we must amend the laws to force these operators in such cases where we bring delegates for destination marketing to make sure that they are exhorted to support such efforts.</blockquote>
