Vice President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Constantino_Chiwenga">Constantino Chiwenga</a> who doubles as the Minister of Health and Child Care has sent a condolence message to the Manyonda family following the death of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kenneth_Vhundukai_Manyonda">Kenneth Vhundukai Manyonda</a> on 9 November 2022. In a statement seen by Pindula News, Chiwenga said the national hero contributed substantially to national development in his various capacities including that of Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce as well as Governor of Manicaland Province. It was with a deep sense of shock and grief that I learnt of the untimely passing on of Cde Kenneth Manyonda, on Wednesday, 9 November 2022. My last interactions with him had given me a deceptive impression that he was on the mend, and ready to get to his feet. Alas, that was not to be. 
I knew the late Cde Manyonda as a vibrant nationalist, whose involvement in Trade Unionism and Black Consciousness movements in the 1950s and 1960s was a source of inspiration for the oppressed youths of our country. It was the boldness of Cde Manyonda and his colleagues which added depth to Nationalism in our country. He was also active during the days of the National Democratic Party, which birthed the fighting spirit of the revolutionary parties against the oppressive colonial regime up to the time of its capitulation, leading to the attainment of our independence in 1980. Post-independence, Cde Manyonda remained steadfast, focused and determined to give his best for the good of our Party, ZANU PF and beloved country, Zimbabwe. Notably, he contributed substantially to national development as Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce as well as Governor of Manicaland Province. Cde Manyonda always exuded an unwavering desire to preserve our cultural beliefs, values and mores as a people. He was an embodiment of the Hunhu/Ubuntu spirit. The country benefited from his wisdom as he continued with national duty as a Chief in Buhera.
As we mourn Cde Manyonda, I wish to extend heartfelt condolences to the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, His Excellency Cde Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa, the citizen, exemplary father and great statesman, who dedicated his life to serving his country.
May his dear soul rest in eternal peace.

FULL TEXT: VP Chiwenga Consoles Manyonda Family

Former Manicaland Provincial Governor and Deputy Minister of Industry and International Trade, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kenneth_Vhundukai_Manyonda">Kenneth Vhundukai Manyonda</a>, has been declared a national hero.
The development was confirmed by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Misheck_Sibanda">Misheck Sibanda</a>, in a statement released Friday. 
He said details of the funeral will be announced later once consultations between the Government and his family are concluded. Read the statement:

His Excellency the President Dr E.D. Mnangagwa has declared the late one-time Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce and Governor of Manicaland Province under the First Republic, Cde Kenneth Manyonda, a National Hero.
The conferment of National Hero status on the late departed followed consultations of, and consensus by the (Zanu PF) Politburo.

Manyonda, who was aged 88, died in Harare on Wednesday after a long illness.
The ZANU PF leadership in Manicaland Province had earlier applied to the national leadership to confer national hero status on the former provincial governor.
ZANU PF Acting Secretary for Administration, who is also Secretary for Finance and Economic Development, Patrick Chinamasa confirmed that the party leadership received a request from Manicaland Province to accord Manyonda National Hero status. 
In his condolence message on Thursday, President Mnangagwa described Manyonda as a veteran nationalist who cut his teeth in trade unionism during the colonial era.
The President said Manyonda was committed to supporting the liberation struggle until independence.

Former Deputy Minister Manyonda Accorded National Hero Status

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sent condolences to the Manyonda family following the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/former-governor-deputy-minister-manyonda-dies/">death of Kenneth Manyonda</a>, a former Governor of Manicaland Province.
Manyonda who was also a former Deputy Minister of Industry and International Trade <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/former-governor-deputy-minister-manyonda-dies/">died at a clinic in Marlborough after battling an u disclosed ailment for some time.</a> He was 88 years old. 
In a statement seen by Pindula News, Mnangagwa said Manyonda stands as a symbol of fearless fortitude and unwavering commitment. Reads the statement:

Condolence Message by His Excellency the President, Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa, following the passing on of Cde. Kenneth Manyonda, former Deputy Minister and Manicaland Governor, Harare, 10th November, 2022.
I learnt with deep sorrow and sadness of the passing on early yesterday of Cde. Kenneth Manyonda, our former Deputy Minister and then Governor of Manicaland Province. Although I knew he had been unwell for quite some time, I still hoped he would pull through, thus remaining with us for much longer. Sadly, this was not to be.
A quietly spoken veteran nationalist who cut his political teeth in trade unionism during colonial days, Cde Manyonda remained in step with our nationalist movement and the struggle until our National Independence. He had joined politics far back in the heady days of the National Democratic Party, NDP, and had remained engaged until we attained our Independence. Like his peers, Cde Manyonda suffered harassment and incarceration at the hands of the colonial authorities, but without ever giving up or abandoning the cause. He thus stands in national annals as a symbol of fearless fortitude and unwavering commitment.
After Independence, he served his country diligently, including in the higher office of minister of Government after his appointment as Deputy Minister and, later as Governor of Manicaland Province. As a Member of Parliament for Buhera West, he served the community with remarkable foresight, including in respect of a rural livestock upgrading programme which he introduced well before our Land Reform Programme. Later, he would pioneer commercial brick-making project in Mutare thus anticipating the rapid construction thrust which comes with urbanisation we now witness across the country. He had this knack for living and investing ahead of his times.
On behalf of the Party, ZANU PF, Government, my Family and on my behalf, I wish to express by deepest, heartfelt condolences to the Manyonda Family, especially to his immediate family, on this their saddest lost. As they grieve over the loss of their beloved father and guardian, may they find solace in that our whole Nation joins them and shares their grief.
