Warriors forward Khama Billiat is set to leave Yadah FC at the end of the year when his contract expires. 
Billiat, who joined Yadah in February 2024, spent over six months without a club after parting ways with South African giants Kaizer Chiefs in June 2023.
The 34-year-old winger’s arrival at Yadah marked his second dalliance with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after a 15-year career in South Africa.
During his second stint in Zimbabwe’s top flight, Billiat had an impressive season, netting 13 goals in the 2024 campaign.
He finished the season as one of the league’s top scorers, placed second on the goal-scoring chart, just four goals behind Golden Boot winner Lynoth Chikuhwa of Highlanders.
In addition to his goal-scoring feats, Billiat also recorded 11 assists, bringing his total direct goal contributions to 24.
His consistent and standout performances throughout the season earned him a well-deserved spot among the 2024 PSL Soccer Stars of the Year.

Yadah and Warriors forward Khama Billiat has finally disclosed the reason behind his departure from Kaizer Chiefs last year.
Billiat chose not to renew his contract with Amakhosi when it expired in June 2023, despite Chiefs’ interest in offering him a new deal.
He then spent seven months without a club before returning to Zimbabwe to join Castle Lager Premiership side Yadah.

I didn’t mind the salary cut, I appreciate it. I would have stayed, but I just felt like the pressure was too much for me to take, a lot was going on.
I was not sure if I would be injury-free had I stayed for another season and also with the social media pressure it was not easy.
I am the only one person, so I couldn’t take so much and it got to a point where most of the time I was not myself even when I was at home because there was so much to deal with.

Billiat has regained some of his form since returning to Zimbabwe. He is currently the joint top goal-scorer in the local premiership with 12 goals and has also been recalled to the Warriors squad.

Yadah Stars forward Khama Billiat is reportedly at risk of losing his house in Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa to creditors.
City Press, a South African publication, reported that Billiat is being dragged to court by a creditor who claims the former Ajax, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs winger has allegedly “failed to keep up with the payment of the bond agreement”.
According to the report, an entity known as Emerging Markets Home Loans applied to the Pretoria High Court for an eviction order against five occupants, who have been staying in Billiat’s house since his return to Zimbabwe early this year.
The company reportedly filed a notice of motion on 5 May, citing that the occupants were unlawfully living at the premises, even though the house was allegedly due to be auctioned in June.
City Press also reported that the lawyer(s) representing Emerging Markets, Jillian Pedro, confirmed to the publication that indeed the eviction order was applied. She was quoted as saying:

I am the attorney of record in the matter. It’s still an ongoing process, therefore, I cannot say much about it.

Billiat has allegedly not been paying monthly instalments for the Midlands property.
This has “prompted the finance service provider to put the house on auction in an attempt to recoup the R1.7 million loan”, according to the sheriff who asked not to be identified.

Khama Billiat At Risk Of Losing South African House To Creditors

Former Zimbabwe national teams General Manager Wellington Mpandare says referees in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) must do more to protect Yadah Stars forward Khama Billiat from rough tackles by opponents as his presence on the pitch boots the profile of the league.
Billiat suffered a calf injury when the Miracle Boys lost to Simba Bhora last week and had to be taken off just before halftime.
Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://www.soccer24.co.zw/2024/04/11/mpandare-referees-should-protect-billiat-for-the-benefit-of-the-league/">Soccer24</a>, Mpandare, who reportedly played a key role in convincing Billiat to return home from South Africa, said Simba Bhora players were instructed to hurt Billiat.
He insisted that match officials should protect Billiat, saying his thriving benefits the local premiership. Said Mpandare:

Khama (Billiat) is a brand, in the past years, fans have not been attending games but since he joined Yadah, he has attracted a lot of fans back to the stadiums as witnessed at Hwange (vs Hwange), Mutare (vs Bikita Min), Bulawayo (vs Bulawayo Chiefs) and Harare when Yadah played Dynamos and Simba.
Against Dynamos, more than five thousand fans were turned away because of gate entrance issues, Khama had more fans seated in the City end bay compared to Dynamos fans in the Vietnam end.
It was Khama who attracted most of the fans including Dynamos fans because against Bulawayo Chiefs, Dynamos could not attract even half of the fans with gate entrance issues resolved.
We should take a leaf from Saudi Arabia, who improved their league by attracting top players. In our league, we don’t see the benefit of having players like Khama back.
Case in point, Yadah versus Simba, Simba players were determined to make sure that Khama would not play football again and they almost achieved that, which is sad.
The referee of the day didn’t protect him. Khama was kicked on and off the ball until he got injured. One of the Simba players said he wanted to end Khama’s career. The players, coaches, and referees do not understand the value Khama brings to our league.
The benefits have a ripple effect in our football, good attendances mean referees are paid on time, players are paid on time, PSL, SRC and ZIFA get more and the clubs remain with some money.
Even PSL and the sponsors don’t see the value in Khama, they are not taking advantage of the Khama hype.

Referees Should Protect Billiat For The League To Thrive - Mpandare

Yadah Stars coach Thomas Ruzive has come to the defence of the club’s marquee signing, Khama Billiat, who has yet to find the net since his return to the local premiership amid high expectations.
According to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200025152/yadah-coach-defends-billiat">NewsDay</a>, Ruzive explained that Billiat will require time to adapt to a league with lower quality compared to South Africa, where he spent most of his club football career.
Ruzive made these remarks shortly after the Miracle Boys suffered a 3-1 defeat against Bulawayo Chiefs at Luveve Stadium on Monday.
During the match, Billiat faced challenges, especially in the first half, but gradually improved in the second half. Unfortunately, he missed a scoring opportunity. Said Ruzive:

I think he is trying to adjust to the local football. He will adjust and he will improve his game. The quality of players we have in the local league and internationally (is different). Of course, the South Africans are better because they pick quality players around Africa, and they pick quality players only.

Ruzive acknowledged that they are actively addressing the former Warriors star’s fitness, considering his extended time on the sidelines. He attributed his players’ struggles to the condition of the pitch.
The Miracle Boys lost their first game to Hwange at the Colliery and played two draws against Bikita Minerals and Dynamos before the defeat against Chiefs.
Meanwhile, Chiefs’ gaffer Thulani Sibanda suggested that Billiat was less effective as a twin striker. He said:

There was no special instruction on my players on Billiat because in terms of where they placed him; they placed him as a twin striker, so he is not dangerous. If he was wide, he was going to be dangerous.
We were going to assign him someone but where they placed him, they tried to play long balls to him, and he doesn’t have the height so there was no specific assignment. Unless he was playing wide.
If they pulled wide it was going to be a bit tricky but if he is playing central, he is just an ordinary player. But I am not at their training ground, I don’t know the coach’s philosophy so I cannot advise him to do that.

Yadah Stars coach Thomas Ruzive expressed satisfaction with Khama Billiat’s performance in their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Bikita Minerals, describing it as “encouraging.”
Billiat played his first match for the Miracle Boys, coming on as a substitute during the 1-0 defeat against Hwange last week.
Subsequently, he had his full debut for the club during the rearranged fixture at Sakubva Stadium against the PSL newcomers.

Yadah Stars Football Club founder and owner Walter Magaya has said he will persuade the club’s new marquee signing, Khama Billiat to consider coming out of international retirement.
As reported by <a href="https://www.soccer24.co.zw/2024/02/29/magaya-talks-billiat-warriors-return/">Soccer24</a>, the Harare-based cleric said he can persuade Billiat to return to the Warriors fold. He said:

Well, the first thing is, he needs to play well and be wanted in the national team. But as far as convincing him is concerned, I’m very sure I can do so.
Khama is a natural leader and that leadership is still wanted in the national team if whoever will be the next coach sees it that way.

Billiat quit international football under unclear circumstances in November 2021. Announcing his decision to quit the national team, Billiat said:

This is probably the heaviest decision I have ever had to take in my life, but it is a decision I make with a patriotic heart.
Like those who had to pave the way for our generation of Warriors stars to emerge. I have decided to retire from international football.

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) will never be the same again following the arrival of CAF Champions League winner Khama Billiat.
This was said by PSL chairman Farai Jere as he was speaking on the sidelines of the Delta Beverages sponsorship unveiling in Harare on Thursday.
Jere said Billiat’s stature has the potential to revive interest in the local Premiership. He said (<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/billiat-doubles-premierships-value/">via The Herald</a>):

Dynamos Football Club has fired vice chairman Vincent Chawonza from his post for gross misconduct with immediate effect.
Chawonza recently sparked controversy following his scathing criticism of Khama Billiat’s management team after the player snubbed Dynamos and joined Yadah Stars.
In a statement issued on Friday, 23 February, titled “Disengagement of Mr Vincent Chawonza as Vice Chairman of Dynamos Football Club”, Dynamos said:

Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200023464/dembare-lash-out-at-billiat">NewsDay</a>, Chawonza claimed that DeMbare had agreed on a year’s contract worth US$20 000 with Billiat’s management team, a deal the two parties were set to sign on the player’s arrival from his base in South Africa.
However, former Warriors manager Wellington Mpandare, who is reported to be in Billiat’s camp, brokered a deal with Yadah after the Miracle Boys paid Billiat’s air ticket and offered more than US$50 000 per annum in salaries, in addition to US$20 000 signing on fees.
Billiat will also get a high-end vehicle and a fully furnished flat in one of Harare’s affluent suburbs as part of the deal.
Chawonza believes Billiat’s handlers are contributing to Billiat’s “bad” career choices. He said:

Dynamos Criticise Khama Billiat's Handlers

Yadah Stars Football Club are set to unveil Khama Billiat as their player in Harare on Thursday night after beating off competition from Manica Diamonds for his signature.
Contrary to claims on social media platforms, Yadah will not loan out Billiat to Dynamos.
<a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/yadah-to-unveil-billiat/">Zimpapers Sports</a> reported a Yadah official as saying the club could not unveil Billiat today as it is a public holiday. Said the official:
<blockquote>
It does not make sense to pay so much money on a player whose long-term future is subject to fitness and then loan him to Dynamos or any other local team without recovering the money.
He will play at Yadah and that is why he will be unveiled tomorrow night; we couldn’t do it tonight because it is a holiday.
Otherwise, Yadah cannot unveil him at a function, giving him a Yadah kit and then sending him out on loan.
He is different from the likes of Shandirwa, the Yadah players who are on loan at Dynamos because they are still young and have contracts that are automatically extended by a year once they go on loan as age is still on their side. With Khama, we are not even sure if he will play beyond this season.
Apart from the money issue, the advantage for Khama at Yadah is that, unlike at a bigger club like Dynamos, he will not be under any pressure to play matches.
Remember last year Yadah bought three Brazilians and only one played a few minutes and scored while the rest just failed to make it.
There was never any pressure for them to play. But imagine if those three had been bought by Dynamos?
The pressure would have been too much and it’s the same with Khama. There is no way Dynamos can sign a player like him and then watch him on the sidelines without playing.

Billiat decided to return home after a stint in South Africa with Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.
In June 2023, Billiat reportedly rejected a contract renewal offer on reduced terms from Kaizer Chiefs and has been without a club since.
Dynamos had seemed Billiat’s destination but his camp says there was a problem with the sign-on fee.
DeMbare were committed to the US$20 000 fee and offered US$10 000 now and then the remainder in June.
However, Billiat’s camp wanted it all at once and that is when Manica Diamonds moved in and had seemingly reached an agreement last week on Thursday.
Manica Diamonds were reportedly willing to pay US$20 000 sign-on fee, US$3 500 monthly salary and a winning bonus of US$500 while there was nothing for a draw.
It is further alleged that a contract was even sent to Billiat while he was still in South Africa but he was then advised to wait a bit.
This allowed Yadah FC to make their offer using the influence of their partner, businessman and Mabvuku-Tafara member of parliament, Pedzai Sakupwanya (ZANU PF).
Yadah managed to put together a better package than Manica Diamonds resulting in Billiat’s travel to Harare on Tuesday night.

Khama Billiat Joins Yadah Stars, To Be Unveiled On Thursday

Khama Billiat will not be loaned to Dynamos if he is signed by Yadah Stars FC, <a href="https://www.soccer24.co.zw/2024/02/21/biliat-will-not-be-loaned-to-dynamos/">reported Soccer24</a>.
The 33-year-old former Warriors talisman arrived in Zimbabwe last night to complete his return to the local premiership.
Billiat was welcomed at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Yadah officials, led by club Chief Executive Officer Admire Mango.
This has fuelled speculation that the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs star is headed to the Miracle Boys.
Soccer24 reported a well-placed source at Yadah as saying Billiat will sign a one-year deal with the Miracle Boys, and will not be loaned to Dynamos, contrary to some reports. Said the source:

There is nothing like that. You know people and their love for Dynamos, they tend to speculate and say things that are not true.
We paid a lot of money to convince him to come, so how will loaning him to Dynamos benefit Yadah?

I don’t know where people are getting it all wrong. Players with long-term contracts like Tanaka Shandirwa are the ones we loan out, not in this case where we paid a lot of money for the player and gave him a short-term contract.

In an unexpected turn of events, Yadah Stars FC have now been touted as Billiat’s destination after club officials were spotted at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport welcoming Billiat.

Manica Diamonds have reportedly offered Khama Billiat $20 000 in signing-on fees plus a monthly salary in the range of $4 000 to lure the former Warriors star who has been clubless since last year following his acrimonious departure from Kaizer Chiefs.
Reports last week claimed Dynamos were leading in the race to sign the 33-year-old CAF Champions League winner, but it appears DeMbare have been gazumped by Manica Diamonds.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/sport/article/200023297/billiat-bidding-wars-continue-as-manica-diamond-offers-us20000">The Standard</a> reported sources as saying Manica Diamonds have offered Billiat a “deal that is difficult to resist” which is believed to be almots three times what Dynamos allegedly offered. Said a source:

It’s true negotiations have been going on, but Manica Diamonds have come up with an offer that is difficult for him to resist. They are prepared to fork out US$20 000 in signing-on fees per season.

Negotiations are now at an advanced stage, and as soon as the finer details are agreed upon, Khama will fly in.

When contacted for a comment by The Standard, Manica Diamonds coach Jairos Tapera couldn’t deny or confirm reports linking Billiat with the club. He said:

Maybe because we have become a really big brand on the local scene, people are beginning to link us with the big boys.

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt said <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Khama_Billiat">Khama Billiat</a> only trained for one day with the club last month and never returned.
Billiat (33) trained with the Pretoria-based side amid reports that the former Warriors forward could finally find a team after spending the first half of the season club-hunting.
The club’s CEO, Stan Mathews, was later quoted confirming that they were not going to sign Billiat.
Speaking on Friday after SuperSport’s league game against Stellenbosch FC, Hunt said Billiat was at the club for just one training session and never returned. Said Hunt (<a href="https://farpost.co.za/2024/02/17/gavin-hunt-on-khama-billiat-supersports-failed-potential-move/">via FarPost</a>):

Billiat Trained Once With SuperSport United And Never Returned - Hunt

Former Warriors forward <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Khama_Billiat">Khama Billiat</a>, who has been clubless after leaving Kaizer Chiefs in 2023, is reported to be on the verge of joining Dynamos ahead of the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Billiat has been without a team since June last year after he refused to sign another contract offered to him by Amakhosi as it had substantial reductions in wages.
Since then, the Zimbabwean has failed to attract interest from any other South African club despite reported considerations by SuperSport, Cape Town City, and Richards Bay.
According to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/billiat-heads-for-dembare-mahachi-to-follow-suit/">The Herald</a>, the 33-year-old Aces Youth Soccer Academy product will land in the country on Thursday, 15 February to sign a contract with the Glamour Boys.
The report claims Billiat has been offered a salary which will be the highest across the league, by a significant margin.
He is expected to be available for DeMbare’s season-opening Castle Challenge Cup tie against Ngezi Platinum Stars on 24 February at Baobab. A Herald source was quoted as saying:

Khama Billiat Set To Join Dynamos | Report

Former Warriors star <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Khama_Billiat">Khama Billiat</a> broke down in tears as he gave an emotional speech at the funeral service for his friend and ex-national teammate <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/George_Chigova">George Chigova</a> at Rufaro Stadium in Harare on Thursday.
Chigova, who played for Dynamos before continuing his career at South African clubs, died in his sleep at his home in the neighbouring country last week due to heart complications, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200019953/when-billiat-broke-down">NewsDay</a>.
The former SuperSport United goalkeeper, who died at the age of 32, left behind wife Noku and three daughters.
Chigova’s body was flown into the country on Wednesday morning. Hundreds of people, including family members, relatives, former and current players, and other football officials were at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport to welcome the body.
Billiat who was Chigova’s close friend, having started their careers together at Aces Youth Academy when they were kids, was part of the crowd at Rufaro Stadium.
Billiat struggled with his emotions as he paid tribute to “Jojola” as Chigova was affectionately called by his teammates and football fans. He said:

I don’t have many words, but just to say rest in peace, George. I never thought that I would give a speech at George’s funeral… that I would bury George. Rest easy George and you must know that we will love you until we meet again.
</blockquote>
Supporters, family, friends, Chigova’s former colleagues, officials from Dynamos, Footballers Union of Zimbabwe, ZIFA and the Premier Soccer League (PSL) were at the stadium, where Chigova made his name before moving to South Africa, to pay their last respects.
Aces Youth Academy director Nigel Munyati described Chigova as “a gentle giant”.
Other speakers included former Warriors team manager Wellington Mpandare, Premier Soccer League CEO Kenny Ndebele, Footballers Union of Zimbabwe and Dynamos chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze, and ZIFA Normalisation Committee member Rosemary Mugadza.
Chigova played for big clubs such as Dynamos, SuperSport United and Polokwane City.
He helped the Warriors win the COSAFA Cup in 2018 and was voted the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
He was also the Warriors’ first-choice keeper at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Egypt.
The “gentle giant” was set to be laid to rest this Friday in Chivhu, Mashonaland East Province.

Dynamos and Warriors defender Frank Makarati said that Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat should reconsider their decision to retire from international football.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200014430/loud-calls-for-musona-billiats-comeback">NewsDay</a>, the DeMbare captain said Musona and Billiat are now at the peak of their powers and the Warriors need them in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers starting in November. He said:

I don’t know what forced them to make that decision, and we can’t force them to come back. Of course, it might be a good decision on their side, but to be honest, it’s not the best decision for the country.
Personally, I feel that the two are at the peak of their careers, and the country still needs their services.
You try to look around to see who is better than those two in their positions in the Warriors team at the moment… you won’t find any. Their talent and experience are still needed.
People might say we now need new blood in the team, but we as youngsters we need people like Musona to guide, push and motivate us.

Argentina football legend Lionel Messi considered by some football fans to be the G.O.A.T, the greatest footballer of all time, came out of retirement to lead his country to World Cup glory in Qatar in 2022.
Makarati said Musona (33) and Billiat (32) should emulate what Messi did. He said:

Messi retired from Argentina but came back and won the World Cup for his country. Age is still on their side.
We have seen players like Pepe (40) and Christiano Ronaldo (38) playing for Portugal, while Luka Modric (37) is still going strong at Real Madrid and Croatia.
If you compare those players I have mentioned, with, for example, Musona, you will see that he is still very young and has at least three to five years of him playing for the national team.

Billiat announced his retirement from international football in November 2021 saying he has run his race and it is time for him to pave the way for fresh talent.
Musona then announced his retirement from the Warriors in May 2022 after playing for the team since 2010, a period in which he featured 51 times and scored 24 goals.

Warriors Still Need Musona, Billiat, Says Dynamos Captain

Former Warriors midfielder, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Alois_Bunjira/">Alois Bunjira</a>, has urged Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat to reconsider their retirement from international football now that the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has new management. 
His remarks came after the Federation of International Football (FIFA) had lifted the suspension on Zimbabwe and appointed a four-member normalisation committee to take over the day-to-day running of ZIFA until June 2024. The committee is composed of chairperson Lincon Mutasa, Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, Rosemary Mugadza, and Nyasha Sanyamandu. Mutasa, a former Dynamos chairman, Mugadza, a former Mighty Warriors coach, Ndebele, a former Highlanders defender, and Sanyamandwe, a member of the British Sports Lawyers Association and a legal practitioner, were selected to serve on the committee. The suspension of ZIFA has been in effect since Monday 10 July 2022.
In a Facebook post seen by Pindula News, Bunjira expressed his belief that the tried and tested duo of Musona and Billiat would play a critical role in Zimbabwe’s quest to qualify for the World Cup. With limited time for preparation, he believes it is necessary to rely on established players to increase the team’s chances of success. He said:

Now that international football is back, we have a normalisation committee to steer football forward, after the dark days of the past years, and Zimbabwe being placed in a fair World Cup group C, I think it is a perfect platform for Captain Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat to come out of their forced retirement and carry the torch with the warriors for one last push, while we sort out our development structures, to groom their future replacements.
We all know why Musona and Billiat retired from the Warriors. All that is sorted now. The culprits are gone. Between now and the World Cup qualifiers, we don’t have time for experiments. I believe we now have a committee that will put in place our junior national teams where younger players are developed and groomed for the Warriors. We also have the CHAN and COSSFA tournaments where experiments and grooming is done. The Warriors is a product and window of what has been developed.

Bunjira believes that Zimbabwe has been drawn into a reasonably fair <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/07/13/zimbabwe-nigeria-sa-in-group-c-of-world-cup-2026-qualifiers/">group for the World Cup</a> which is comprised of Nigeria, South Africa, Benin, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Lesotho. He believes that with the inclusion of all the best players on the team and proper preparation, the country can put up a good fight. Additionally, he emphasised the importance of tapping into the deep reserves of football talent in the diaspora, across the world.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2021/011/15/it-was-all-a-dream-khama-billiat-retires-from-international-football/">Billiat retired from international football</a> after Zimbabwe’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in November 2021. A highly regarded player for the Warriors, he scored important goals, made assists, and displayed crowd-pleasing dribbling skills. It was expected he would retire after the AFCON finals in 2022. While he stated that he was retiring to allow other players a chance to represent Zimbabwe, there were rumours that he quit over the manner the team was being governed.
Knowledge Musona, known as “The Smiling Assassin,” <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/05/19/knowledge-musona-retires-from-international-football/">announced his retirement from international football</a> on Thursday, 19 May 2022. The Saudi Arabia-based striker stated that he is quitting the Warriors to concentrate on his club career and to allow other players a chance to represent Zimbabwe.

Bunjira: It's Time For Musona And Billiat To Come Out Of Forced Retirement

Kaizer Chiefs say they intend to put Khama Billiat’s contractual issue to rest and urged him to return to the negotiating table.
Last week, Chiefs announced that they had tabled a new contract to Billiat but the Zimbabwean was nowhere to be found and did not respond to the club’s efforts to get hold of him.
Speaking on Radio 2000, Kaizer Chiefs Communications Manager Vina Maphosa said they expected the 32-year-old to be in their pre-season camp despite his contract having expired on 30 June. <a href="https://www.snl24.com/soccerladuma/local/premiership/kaizer-chiefs/kaizer-chiefs-aim-to-put-khama-billiat-issue-to-rest-with-spirits-high-in-camp-20230712">Said Maphosa</a>:

Khama (Billiat) reported for duty when we started pre-season, he was there, he did the medical test, he did the fitness test, he took part in the light training sessions, and just when we were about to leave for camp.
Khama was obviously expected to come and be part of that pre-season camp. That was the expectations from the club but it seems as if we didn’t share the same expectations with him.
I can also reveal that the last time he reported sick as well at training and he didn’t take part in training but he was at the village.

Maphosa said Kaizer Chiefs expected Billiat to respond to their offer and are still waiting for him to engage the club to bring the matter to finality. Said Maphosa:

So, we wish that the player will make a call to the club and sit at the table to conclude the discussions.

Reports suggest that the former Warriors talisman was offered a new contract by Chiefs on reduced terms and that he is waiting for offers from other South African clubs and from abroad.

Kaizer Chiefs Aim To Put Khama Billiat Contract Issue To "Rest"

DStv premiership side Kaizer Chiefs have said Khama Billiat is “nowhere to be found” and the club’s efforts to get in contact with the Zimbabwean forward have been unfruitful.
In a statement, Amakhosi said they have tabled a new contract for Billiat, whose previous contract expired on 30 June 2023, but the player has not responded to the offer. <a href="https://www.kaizerchiefs.com/news/khama-billiat-update">Reads the statement</a>:

Following the expiry of attacking midfielder Khama Billiat’s Kaizer Chiefs contract on 30 June 2023, the Club tabled a new offer for the Zimbabwean marksman to remain with Amakhosi.

Billiat was last seen at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on 29 June and has not answered any of the calls made or messages sent to him by the Club.
The team is currently in camp with all the players, yet Billiat, who is also expected to be there with his teammates, failed to show up and is currently nowhere to be found.

Reports in South Africa claimed that Billiat, who was reportedly earning R850 000 a month, was offered a contract extension on condition that he takes a pay cut.

Khama Billiat "Ignores" Kaizer Chiefs' New Contract Offer

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that talks are ongoing with out-of-contract Zimbabwe winger Khama Billiat.
Billiat, whose contract with Chiefs expired at the end of last month, hasn’t penned a new deal with the club yet.
Speaking to the <a href="https://www.sowetanlive.co.za/sport/soccer/2023-07-05-chiefs-and-billiat-still-deadlocked-on-new-contract/">Sowetan</a> on Tuesday, Kaizer Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung confirmed Amakhosi’s intention to keep Billiat and dismissed reports that the forward has refused to take a salary cut. He said:

I don’t know that [Billiat is refusing to accept a reduced package]. Khama is negotiating a new contract with the club [since] his contract has expired.
It’s not a salary cut [that’s being negotiated]. A salary cut happens when somebody is earning so much and the employer cuts his salary.
With Khama, there’s no salary cut because the negotiations are still about the new contract. How can you cut the salary of a person who doesn’t have a contract?
The negotiations are ongoing and we hope he stays but we don’t know what will come out of the negotiations at the end of the day.

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly offered Billiat a new one-year deal on condition that his previous package is scaled down.
Billiat, who turns 33 in August, is believed to have turned the offer down, hoping to get a team that would match his salary expectations in North Africa or Saudi Arabia.
Last week Kaizer Chiefs offered fellow veterans in goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and defender Sifiso Hlanti new one-year contracts on reduced terms.
Despite the uncertainty, Billiat has been turning up for training at Chiefs.

Khama Billiat, Kaizer Chiefs Talks On New Contract Ongoing

Former Kaizer Chiefs player Shane McGregor has urged the Soweto giants not to offer Khama Billiat a new contract.
Speaking to South African publication <a href="https://www.sowetanlive.co.za/sport/soccer/2023-06-28-dump-billiat-and-keep-khune-legend-advises-chiefs/">SowetanLIVE</a> last week a few days before Billiat’s contract expired on 30 June, McGregor said the Zimbabwean winger has achieved nothing since he joined Kaizer Chiefs.
He said the club should consider offering goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune a new deal arguing that he can play for a few more years and also help other keepers. Said McGregor:

To be honest, what has Billiat done since he has been at Chiefs? Not much. For the goalkeeper, he [Khune] can still mature with experience, you can still go for a few more years and also he can help other keepers, so that can be worth it keeping him.
But for me personally, it is a waste of time keeping Billiat, but as I said, it is a difficult one to call because you don’t know who will come in and what will happen, whether the coach will want to use him.
He ([Billiat] is a very good player, if you keep him fit and happy, he can do things. But it has not been happening while he has been at Chiefs.

Reports in South Africa claim that Billiat was asked to take a pay cut to stay at the club for one more year.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Chiefs announced that Khune had extended his stay at the club and will be there for one last season as a player and thereafter transition into a new coaching and ambassadorial role working with the marketing division at the Club.
