A man who survived the horrific King Lion Bus accident on 7 June 2017 that claimed the lives of 43 people after the King Lion Bus they were travelling in rammed into a tree in Karoi, is suing King Lion Bus Company and the deceased driver who also lost his life in the accident, the Chronicle reports.
Khulani Ndlovu who is now disabled after the accident is seeking  $1 027 950 in damages, disfigurement, pain and medical expenses, cited King Lion Bus as the first respondent and Mrs Joyce Ruzvidzo the executor of her deceased husband(the bus driver)’s estate.
In the papers filed at the High Court by Ndlovu’s lawyers Masiye-Moyo and Associates, Ndlovu said;
<blockquote>The accident was due to the negligence of the first defendant (King Lion Motorways Bus Company) in that it failed to service or maintain the vehicle to keep it roadworthy. First defendant is therefore vicariously liable
As a result of the accident I suffered damages in the amount of US$16 449, $1 027 950 and R800 for estimated future medical expenses, special damages and general damages due to pain and suffering, disfigurement and loss of amenities</blockquote>
Ndlovu who also claimed he lost US$4 701 and R800 in the accident and also said the bus driver was speeding and he ignored the passengers’ advice to reduce speed.

King Lion Bus Accident Survivor Sues The Bus Company

In a statement released on Monday (19 June 2017), International Cross Border Traders Association president Dennis Juru urged members of the association not to use King Lion buses adding that they will not pay insurance for anyone involved in an accident on a King Lion bus.
Said Juru:
<blockquote>Please be advised that the association have downgraded King Lion Bus Company. Therefore all Cross Border Traders and Shoppers are advised not to board King Lion buses till further notice. King Lion Buses killed 60 people in a period between 2014-2017. Anyone who boards those buses can do it at their own risk. Our Insurance will not pay anyone who gets involved in an accident on King Lion Buses.</blockquote>

Cross border traders blacklist King Lion buses

Zimbabwe Passengers’ Association (ZPA) petitioned President Robert Mugabe to cancel King Lion Bus Company’s operating licence due to the number of passengers that have died since the firm commenced operations. The petition was also directed at Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere and Transport minster Joram Gumbo.
ZPA secretary-general Paul Makiwa said government should intervene and suspend the bus company’s operating licence like what happened to Mutare-based B&amp;C and Masvingo-based Mhunga bus companies. Said Makiwa:
<blockquote>What is now our worry, as passengers, is that in June 2014, one of this company’s buses claimed the lives of nine passengers. In June 2015, 11 passengers also perished in another accident. Sometime in June 2016, the death toll increased to 19. To our shock this year, in the same month of June, the death rate shot up the ladder to 43 passengers, adding up to 82 deaths in a span of four consecutive years. Let this not be acceptable.</blockquote>
