The government of the Kingdom of Eswatini has strongly denied the allegations levelled against King Mswati III concerning the killing of human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko. The 52-year-old lawyer was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zimbabwean-activists-outraged-over-assassination-of-eswatini-lawyer/">shot dead</a> in his home on the evening of January 21, 2023.
According to reports from Swaziland News, Maseko’s death occurred shortly after King Mswati III issued a warning to those advocating for democracy, stating that his mercenaries would deal with them. Maseko was known for his activism and outspoken criticism of the Eswatini government. In 2014, he faced a two-year prison sentence alongside Bheki Makhubu, the editor of The Nation news magazine, for contempt of court due to articles that were critical of the government and judiciary. Human rights organizations, both within and outside of Eswatini, have expressed suspicions that the King may have had a hand in Maseko’s untimely demise.
In response to these allegations, the government of Eswatini has released a statement, which was seen by Pindula News, threatening decisive action against individuals and human rights organizations making such claims. Read the statement:

<h3>GOVERNMENT STATEMENT MALICIOUS CAMPAIGNS TO TARNISH HIS MAJESTY AND THE COUNTRY’S IMAGE</h3>
Government notes the ongoing slander against the King and Ingwenyama of the Kingdom of Eswatini, His Majesty King Mswati III, by certain individuals and human rights organisations who have continued to make unfounded allegations that His Majesty is involved in the killing of human rights lawyer, Thulani Maseko.
Government also notes with disappointment the glaring disparity and selective advocacy for human rights. When Chief Mahloma was brutally murdered by the so-called ‘solidarity forces’ in November 2022, no one amongst international organisations and human rights advocates advocated for the Chief or even condemned his killing. Likewise, the Police who were at work manning traffic and two warders were killed with no condemnation of this barbaric act of killing innocent lives by international and human rights organisations. We, therefore, take exceptional view to commentary by these biased so-called human rights watchers.
To this end, Government wishes to take this opportunity to caution these individuals and human rights organisations to desist from their malicious campaigns to tarnish the name and reputation of His Majesty the King. Decisive action will be taken against these people and the relevant institutions shall be approached in order for this matter to be addressed once and for all.
In the same vein, Government has taken note of what appears to be a campaign by the leadership of the Federation of the Eswatini Business Community (FESBC) to bring discord and confusion within the business community. As such, Government invited FESBC to a meeting held at the Private and Cabinet Offices on Tuesday, 02 January 2024, where they presented their objectives and modus operandi as an organisation. FESBC was advised to focus on their business objectives, which are basically to empower local businesses.
FESBC was strongly advised to desist from confrontation with other businesses but to seek peaceful redress through relevant institutions and following laid down procedure. The business federation was sternly warned to disassociate itself from violent proscribed institutions.
Government made it clear to FESBC that elements that potentially threaten investors, peace, and destabilise the country and negatively impact on the economy will not be tolerated. Government is ready and prepared to take stern measures. FESBC agreed that they will work with Government in this regard and allayed any fears that they are part of proscribed entities.
I would like to urge the Nation, on behalf of His Majesty’s Government, to continue to stand up and fight against any elements that seek to disturb the country’s hard-earned peace and stability.

Eswatini Threatens Action Against Those Linking King Mswati To The killing Of Human Rights Lawyer Thulani Maseko

Controversial Zimbabwean preacher <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Uebert_Angel">Uebert Angel</a> has described Africa’s remaining absolute monarch, King Mswati III of Eswatini, as a compassionate man committed to the welfare of his people.
<a href="https://x.com/UebertAngel/status/1726942460067430547?s=20">Posting on X</a> after meeting King Mswati at his palace in the Eswatini capital, Mbabane, Angel suggested that some sections of the media that depict the monarch as a cruel autocrat who tramples on his people’s rights are biased. He said:

Having a lighter moment after engaging in a profound exchange with His Majesty, King Mswati III, at his Palace in Mbabane was indeed a tremendous honor.
During this encounter, it became evident that His Majesty differs notably from the depictions often propagated by the media.
I came to witness a man imbued with deep compassion, genuinely invested in the welfare of his nation and unwaveringly devoted to fostering their financial and spiritual well-being.
His consistent advocacy for sincere prayer, even spending an hour in prayer, extending to extensive sessions, serves as a testament to his earnest commitment to the advancement of his people.
With each interaction, I am increasingly acquainted with a monarch whose reverence for prayer permeates our conversations, as we deeply deliberate on his aspirations for Eswatini to emerge as a beacon of global significance.

Angel, who is Zimbabwe’s Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large for Europe and the Americas, is the founder and leader of The Good News Church, formerly Spirit Embassy.
The controversial cleric has been implicated in corrupt activities after he offered to use his diplomatic privileges to carry more than US$1 billion of dirty cash into the country while speaking to Al Jazeera undercover journalists.
Angel’s alleged involvement in money laundering was revealed in a documentary by Al Jazeera titled “Gold Mafia” which premiered early this year.

Uebert Angel Hails King Mswati III As A Champion Of Human Rights

Eswatini monarch King Mswati III, who is on a State visit to the country, has called for the unconditional removal of sanctions imposed by the West on Zimbabwe saying they are hurting the whole of Africa.
Mtswati is expected to officially open the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in Bulawayo this Friday.
Speaking after a meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare on Thursday, Mswati said:

I have been very much impressed to see how much work has been done and we are aware that Zimbabwe is still going through some difficulties as a result of the sanctions which were imposed on this country which we hope, all of us not only the Kingdom of eSwatini but Africa as a whole is looking forward to the day these sanctions will be lifted because these sanctions are not only hurting the people of Zimbabwe but the whole of Africa.

Zimbabwe has been subject to various sanctions by Western countries for alleged human rights abuses, political instability, and economic mismanagement.
In 2001, the United States enacted the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act (ZDERA).
ZDERA imposed targeted sanctions on Zimbabwe, including travel bans and asset freezes on senior Government officials, and also restricts US support for international financial institutions providing assistance to Zimbabwe.
Sanctions have contributed to Zimbabwe’s economic decline by restricting access to foreign investment, credit lines, and trade partners.
Sanctions are, however, not the only factor contributing to Zimbabwe’s challenges.
Other factors, such as corruption, mismanagement, and political instability have also contributed to Zimbabwe’s socio-economic problems.

King Mswati III Calls For Unconditional Removal Of Sanctions

The Kingdom of Eswatini’s absolute monarch, King Mswati III, is set to officially open the 63rd edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo on Friday.
King Mswati is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Tuesday for an official State visit, which begins on Thursday, where he is expected to hold talks with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Before starting his two-day State visit, he will attend the Transform Africa Summit (TAS), which begins on Wednesday.
Mswati will join Presidents Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi and Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia at the summit in Victoria Falls.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Permanent Secretary Ambassador James Manzou confirmed Mswati’s visit to<a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/king-mswati-iii-jets-in-for-state-visit"> State media</a>. He said:

King Mswati III will be in the country on April 25 and will begin his stay in Victoria Falls, where he will attend the Transform Africa Summit.
The following day, April 26, he will join other Heads of State participating in the official opening of the summit, before he heads to Harare to begin the official State visit.
The official State visit is scheduled to begin on April 27, where King Mswati will meet President Mnangagwa at State House.
The two leaders will hold official talks before attending a State banquet in the evening of the same day.
Zimbabwe is very happy and honoured to be hosting King Mswati III.

King Mswati III is one of the world’s last absolute monarchs, with complete control over the government and judiciary of Eswatini.
He has been criticised for restrictions on political freedoms and human rights.

King Mswati III To Officially Open Zimbabwe International Trade Fair

The government of eSwatini has responded angrily to fake news which suggested that King Mswati III had ordered that all men should marry at least two wives by June or face jail.
The story that was published on Monday was carried by the Zambian Observer and was also picked up by several other online publications. It suggested that the government would sponsor marriage ceremonies and offer houses to men who entered into polygamous marriages.
