The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has ordered Chegutu Pirates and Dynamos to submit comprehensive reports detailing the events leading up to the abandonment of their match at Baobab Stadium on Thursday.
The match was called off after Chegutu Pirates players refused to restart the game in protest over the referees’ decision to allow Dynamos’ 97th-minute goal to stand, arguing that the ball did not cross the goal line.
Chegutu Pirates fans also threw objects onto the pitch after the referee had signalled a goal for DeMbare.
Videos suggested that the Chegutu Pirates defender was behind the goal line when he headed the ball in a desperate attempt to clear their lines.
In a statement issued this Saturday, PSL Communications and Media Liason Officer Kudzai Bare, disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against Chegutu Pirates. She said:

The Premier Soccer League has received the official match reports regarding the abandonment of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Chegutu Pirates FC and Dynamos FC played on Thursday 25 April 2024.
In light of this incident, we have advised both clubs to submit comprehensive reports detailing the events leading up to the abandonment before initiating disciplinary proceedings.
As an organization committed to upholding the integrity of the sport, we strongly urge all players and officials to adhere to the rules and regulations of the Premier Soccer League.
Such behaviour is essential to maintaining the spirit of competition and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants and spectators.
We remind all stakeholders that any violation of the PSL regulations will be met with appropriate disciplinary measures.

Meanwhile, the Chegutu Pirates vs. Dynamos match was the second PSL game to be abandoned this season after the CAPS United vs. FC Platinum game at Mandava Stadium on 6 April 2024 also ended prematurely.
The match was abandoned with only four minutes left in regulation time after CAPS United fans invaded the pitch in protest over a Ralph Kawondera “goal” had been ruled out for offside.
FC Platinum was leading 1-0 at the time the game was abandoned. The goal was scored by Juan Mutudza in the eighth minute.
The PSL then summoned CAPS United to appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee on 23 April 2024. The outcome of the disciplinary proceedings has not been made public.
In 2022, Highlanders and Dynamos were fined by the PSL Disciplinary Committee due to incidents of violence and hooliganism during their league match between the two clubs at Barbourfields Stadium in May of that year.
Dynamos FC, who were the home team, were fined $7,500, while Highlanders FC was fined $5,000. The match was awarded to Highlanders on a 3-0 scoreline.

PSL Orders Chegutu Pirates And Dynamos To Submit Reports On Abandoned Match

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has banned bottles, cans, cooler boxes, pushcarts, buckets and other items from stadiums on matchdays to ensure the safety of fans and players.
In a statement issued on Sunday afternoon, PSL communication and media liaison officer, Kudzai Bare, said the banned items have in the past been used as weapons at matches. Said Bare:

This serves to advise that for the purposes of safety and security, objects including bottles, cans, cooler boxes, pushcarts, buckets and other items that may be used as weapons or missiles or those that may endanger the safety of others are prohibited during Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches.
The security officials will be conducting thorough searches at entry points and anyone found in possession of prohibited objects will be denied entry.

Matches between Highlanders and Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo have been characterised by violence in recent seasons.
In May 2022, the PSL suspended all matches following pitch invasions, violence and vandalism at a game between Highlanders and Dynamos.
The match, dubbed “The Battle of Zimbabwe”, at Barbourfields Stadium, was abandoned after a referee was attacked by a fan, a perimeter fence was pushed over, and goalposts were vandalised.
Meanwhile, the first edition of The Battle of Zimbabwe during the ongoing 2024 PSL season is currently underway.

PSL Bans Bottles, Cans, Cooler Boxes, Pushcarts At Stadiums

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has postponed the kick-off of the 2024 from the first weekend of March to the 9th.
In a statement issued on Monday, 26 February, PSL communications and media liaison officer Kudzai Bare said the 2024 Castle Lager PSL championship has been delayed to ensure that there are safe, secure and adequate venues for the matches. Said Bare:

All stakeholders are advised that the 2024 Castle Lager PSL championship will commence on the 9th of March 2024.
This has been necessitated by the need to ensure that we have safe, secure and adequate venues to host Castle Lager PSL matches.

The PSL has admitted to “fixing” the Battle of Zimbabwe fixture between Highlanders and Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium to ensure that it is played on the first weekend of the season.

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Kick Off Postponed

Premier Soccer League (PSL) governors and their clubs’ heads of secretariat recently held a two-day induction and season-planning seminar in Bulawayo.
Only Bikita Minerals had no representation as PSL are still to receive their promotion confirmation from the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
The meeting, which was held at a local hotel, also included a review of the strategic plan.
PSL communications officer Kudzai Bare shed light on the purpose of the meeting during an interview with <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/premier-soccer-league-leaders-converge-for-season-planning-seminar/">The Sunday News</a>. She said:

So, the workshop was for all the PSL clubs including the recently promoted teams. It was more like an induction for the newly promoted teams.
We have clubs that were already in the league to emphasise areas that we are supposed to look at and work on in the upcoming season.
So we looked at it as a review of the challenges and highlights of the 2023 season as well as the areas we need to work on to continue to improve our brand.
We touched on issues to do with marketing and fan engagement because it is important to make sure fans are involved. We also looked at issues to do with club licensing.
We have realised that most of our problems emanate from us not fully implementing it. Our clubs need to have offices and proper junior structures.
Clubs need to run as professional businesses so that clubs can attract sponsors so that clubs are well developed.

Bare said the the 2024 season is expected to kick off on 24 February, with the first round of matches set to be preceded by the Castle Challenge Cup match between league champions Ngezi Platinum Stars and Chibuku Super Cup winners Dynamos at Baobab Stadium a week earlier.

Premier Soccer League Club Bosses Meet Ahead Of 2024 Season

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has suspended all matches for three weeks with immediate effect.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 07 June, PSL communications and media liaison officer Kudzai Bare said league action will resume on 01 July 2023.
She said the suspension of topflight matches has been necessitated by the maintenance work on water reticulation being carried out at the National Sports Stadium. Said Bare:

This serves to advise that the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is taking a break with immediate effect and will resume on the 1st of July 2023.
This has been necessitated by the maintenance work on water reticulation being carried out at the National Sports Stadium and to allow the playing field to regenerate.
We also expect refurbishment works at Rufaro, Nyamhunga and Sakubva stadia to be completed before we resume Castle Lager PSL matches.
</blockquote>
The National Sports Stadium, which is managed by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), currently provides home ground for eight teams, almost half the number of teams in the 18-team league.
The stadium is home to CAPS United, Dynamos, Yadah, Herentals, ZPC Kariba, Simba Bhora, Black Rhinos and Cranborne Bullets.
The owners of Rufaro Stadium, the Harare City Council, are currently renovating the facility which when completed, will ease pressure on the National Sports Stadium.

Premier Soccer League Takes Three-week Break

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has suspended the use of Bata Stadium in Gweru to allow the completion of construction work at the ground.
This follows an outcry by football stakeholders that the stadium was not yet suitable to host topflight matches after paying fans were last week forced to watch a match while standing “outside” the stadium.
In a statement released on Friday, 12 May, Kudzai Bare, PSL Communications and Media Liaison Officer said:

This serves to advise that in the interest of all football stakeholders, Bata Stadium will not be hosting Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches to allow the completion of the construction work that is currently taking place at the stadium.
We applaud Sheasham FC for embarking on such a massive project which will help change the Zimbabwean football landscape.
</blockquote>
Bata Stadium, which is the home ground to Sheasham FC, has only hosted one PSL match, that is, the match between the Midlands province-based team against Highlanders last weekend. The match ended 0-0.
The majority of Zimbabwe’s stadiums are in poor condition and require significant investment to bring them up to modern standards.
Stadiums such as Rufaro Stadium and Gwanzura Stadium, both in Harare and Sakubva Stadium in Mutare are some of the stadiums in dire need of repairs and upgrades.
Dynamos, CAPS United, Black Rhinos, Herentals, Yadah, ZPC Kariba and Cranborne Bullets, have only one functional football stadium – the National Sports Stadium in Harare.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced the postponement of the first edition of the “Battle of Zimbabwe”, the premiership match between Highlanders and Dynamos.
Bosso and DeMbare were scheduled to clash on Saturday 15 April at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo but the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has directed PSL to postpone the match.
In a statement issued this Wednesday, PSL Communications and Media Liason Officer Kudzai Bare said the match has been postponed as the two clubs will participate in the Independence Day activities which start on 16 April. Said Bare:

Please be advised that the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Highlanders FC and Dynamos FC scheduled to be played on Saturday 15 April 2023 has been postponed.
This comes following a directive from the Sports and Recreation Commission for the teams to participate in the Independence Day activities which will commence on the 16th of April 2023.
The postponed fixture will be rescheduled in due course.

The other eight Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday will go ahead as planned.

SRC Orders The Postponement Of The "Battle Of Zimbabwe"

Local footballers say they should not be asked to pay to watch the Castle Lager Premiership matches when their teams are not in action.
The players argue they deserve to watch their colleagues for free since they play in the same league.
One of the players told <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/outcry-from-psl-players/">H-Metro</a> that the cheapest ticket, which costs US$3, is too expensive for them and they don’t have money to subscribe to South African Pay TV company DStv. Said the player:
<blockquote>
You will be surprised to find out that in our team there are about four players who are still making an effort to watch games.
Many are no longer interested because of the way we are treated at the entrance.
You might blame us for the current state of our football, but there’s more to gain if we are granted access.
When other teams are playing, most of us will be in the ghetto gambling and going after girls.
This is another area that is killing our football, to tell the truth.
You can’t expect the same player who is failing to pay US$3 gate charge to afford to watch local matches on DStv.
</blockquote>
Castle Lager Premier Soccer League spokesperson, Kudzai Bare, said only accredited people can watch for free.
She added that it was up to the clubs to engage PSL to facilitate accreditation cards for their players. Said Bare:

A person can only get the privilege to watch for free if he or she is accredited.
People are not granted access through facial recognition or their social status.
The clubs should come to the PSL offices to sort out accreditations for their players.

Local Premiership Footballers Demand To Watch Matches For Free

FC Platinum (FCP) will be officially crowned 2021-2022 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions in their last match of the season.
The Zvishavane-based club will host Cranborne Bullets at Mandava Stadium in their final match of the season, possibly on 12 November.
FCP will be crowned PSL champions for the fourth time in a row after clinching the league titles in 2019, 2018, and 2017.
There were no league matches in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare on Tuesday confirmed that Pure Platinum Play will be presented with the league trophy on Match Day 34. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200002548/fc-platinum-to-be-crowned-on-final-day">She said:</a>

We will do the trophy presentation on the final day of the matches; that is Match Day 34.
</blockquote>
FC Platinum was on Saturday, 22 October confirmed as the PSL champions for the 2021/22 season without kicking the ball on Matchday 31.
The club’s title triumph was confirmed after both Chicken Inn and Dynamos failed to win on Friday and Saturday, respectively, on Matchday 31.
DeMbare, who are second on the log standings, lost 0-1 to Bulawayo City, while third-placed Gamecocks played a goalless draw against Herentals.
The results maintained FC Platinum’s 11-point lead before they played their matchday 31 game against CAPS United.
With three games left for Dynamos and Chicken Inn, the gap is now unassailable for the two teams.
FC Platinum’s fourth successive league equals Highlanders and Dynamos’ record for most successive league titles in the Premier Soccer League era.

FC Platinum To Be Crowned PSL Champions On Final Day

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has decided to act after it had been inundated with complaints from clubs over poor referring during matches.
In a statement, PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare (pictured) said they have forwarded the complaints to the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) for action. Said Bare:

The PSL has received official complaints from clubs regarding match officiating. We have forwarded these complaints to the Zimbabwe Football Association. We are confident that they will look into the matter.

The PSL has fined some coaches in recent weeks after they complained about poor match officiating.
Last week at Baobab Stadium, Triangle coach Jairos Tapera stormed off the pitch in protest against Ngezi Platinum Stars’ opening goal in their 2-0 defeat.
Tapera went to the ZTN Prime commentary box, where he asked commentator Howard Musonza to see the replay.
Tapera has since been charged by the PSL for “inappropriate behaviour.”

PSL Engages ZIFA Over Match Officiating Complaints

Premier Soccer League (PSL) and ZIFA will this weekend meet to discuss the fate of the country’s football in light of the COVID-19 pandemic that has virtually paralysed the much-loved game, The Herald reports.
All 18 clubs have reportedly been invited to the meeting as confirmed by the PSL spokesperson, Kudzai Bare who said:
<blockquote>We got a letter of invitation from ZIFA inviting PSL governors to the consultative meeting on Saturday at 10 am. The venue will be advised and the agenda is the ZIFA president’s address.</blockquote>

ZIFA, PSL To Meet On Saturday To Discuss The State Of Football In The Country

The Premier Soccer League says discussions on permanently moving the country’s football calender are premature given that the environment is not yet safe for matches to be played due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said that they have tasked their sports medicine committee to work around medical procedures that will be followed by clubs when the government and health authorities permit football activities to resume. Said Bare:
<blockquote>We have tasked our sports medicine committee to work around medical protocols that will be followed by clubs once football resumes.
We will resume PSL matches when it is safe to do so, we will be monitoring the situation prevailing as well as guidance from the government and health authorities.</blockquote>
The PSL was scheduled to commence in March but was postponed indefinitely when the country was put under lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus.
Indications are that football will only be given the go-ahead around August or September and some stakeholders have called for the local premiership calendar to be brought into line with the rest of the world.

Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) will host an international football symposium in Victoria Falls from 10 to 12 October 2019. Representatives from the World Leagues Forum (WLF) are expected to attend.
The symposium, PSL hopes, will help grow and market the PSL brand. Said PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare:

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (CLPSL) enters matchday 13 this weekend following a mid-season break as the Zimbabwe national football team was taking part in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Football fans will now be able to buy tickets online in a move aimed at doing away with long winding queues at entrances.
The development was confirmed by Premier Soccer League Communications and Media Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare. She said:
<blockquote>We started with a trial run for the Highlanders vs Dynamos game in Bulawayo two weeks back, this will enhance customer convenience and experience at our matches, no more unnecessary delays and long queues at the gates, fans can purchase tickets from anywhere using their mobile phones.</blockquote>

Premier Soccer League Introduces E-ticketing

Ngezi Platinum Stars may face severe sanctions from the Premier Soccer League (PSL) over their two-week pre-season tour of South Africa.
If a club is found guilty of contravening the Rules and Regulations of the PSL, it may be expelled altogether.
In this case, the club embarked on a foreign trip without the PSL’s approval.
Ngezi Platinum claim that they got clearance from the Sports and Recreation Commission, but the PSL informed the club that it was not in a position to clear the trip to South Africa due to short notice.
Premier Soccer League spokesperson Kudzai Bare had this to say:
<blockquote>We are looking into the matter and will issue a statement once the team returns.</blockquote>
